  1. Hmmm… if you look back in this monumental thread… you will see that I, too, called it. I said that the game was even and the team that won on special teams and won the turn over aspect of the game would win. Special teams were basically even and Boyd won the turn over battle. About the fumbles… If you check the film two were caused and not just drops by SC. We can if and but all night long and likely match things up. Boyd converted on a 4th down that would have kept a drive alive in SC territory, but it was called back and they had to punt. The hail mary at the end of the first half was the difference, but it was not much luckier than the last SC diving TD catch in the same end zone. Also, SC came out in the second half and seemed to be running at will and then went back to the pass. The had little luck with the pass all night except for the last drive and Boyd was playing a soft defense to make sure that if SC scored that there would not be enough time to score again to tie the game. SC played well and it was a great game as most of us expected. All the SC folks I encountered were very nice and gracious. The only action that I question is that the score board was turned off about a minute after the game was over. I know you want to turn it off quicker when you lose, but it should remain on for 10 to 15 minutes to allow the winning team time to get pictures. Several of us got pictures as time expired. So, if anyone needs one just ask around.
  2. Ummm… did I hit a nerve? I thought only 1A school coaches whined. I was just trying to make the point that these kids have nothing to hang there head about if the lose or even if they had lost to York. It has been said, about moving to 2A, that BBS would “…get what they deserved.” Meaning that they could not even make the play-offs in 2A. With their tough non-region schedule and losing record these kids have really been put down. It has been written and stated many times that this team is just not as good as the previous 3 State contending teams and that is just a load of bull. The fact is that they are 5 – 1 in 2A games. If these kids were still playing in 1A they would likely be rolling along just like the past three years. I want the kids to maintain this perspective when they read and hear that garbage.
  3. BBS had trouble with Sequatchie Co. because they went up on them quick in the first half. In 1A the local teams would pretty much just lay down at that point. BBS lost some of their intensity and SC just kept on bringing it. BBS didn’t really get it started back up, but was able to muster enough to win the game. I think they have learned the lesson that being up several touchdowns early… does not a game win. If we want to compare common opponents without regard to circumstances… let’s make a complete comparison. Smith Co. 40 Seq Co. 8 BBS 28 Seq Co. 2 Smith Co. 32 points better than Seq Co. >> BBS 2 points better than Seq Co. >> Smith Co. 30 points better than BBS. (side note: SC’s last touchdown came with :14 seconds in the game and if BBS had managed the clock better on their last possession they could have easily take another 18 to 20 seconds off the clock.) So… Smith Co. blows Boyd-Buchanan out… Right? Oh wait, there is another common opponent… let’s see how that stacks up. Smith Co. 21 York 18 BBS 38 York 6 BBS 32 points better than York >> Smith Co. 3 points better than York >> BBS 29 points better than Smith Co. Put them together and Smith Co. by 1. That sounds like a ball game to me. The team that has the better night on special teams and is in the plus column on turnovers will likely win this game. Good luck Bucs! p.s. Also remember that by size... Boyd-Buchanan is a 1A team in the second round of the 2A play-offs. Forced there by whiney 1A coaches.
  4. The main difference in classification is depth… An injury to a key player or two makes more of a difference to a smaller classification team. Some of those in this thread can brag and boast all they want. The facts about this game are that a 1A SIZE school is playing for the region championship in 2A because of whinny 1A coaches, Boyd-Buchanan is 3-0 in games played after all the injuries and Tyner can have off night (Brainerd.) On paper this is a cinch game for Tyner, but then the games are not played on paper; are they? If the Bucs don’t improve their ball security… it could be a long night for them. If Tyner thinks this game is going to be a cake walk… it could be a long night for them. If you look at it on paper one would say Tyner by 17. If the Bucs give up the ball like they have in recent games you can add to that difference. If Tyner has a game like they did against Brainerd and the Bucs play well… they could ruin Tyner’s party night. One thing for sure… If you like to watch football, this is one that should be fun to watch!
  5. SC played a great game and could have had more points if their receivers had had a better night. Having said that, I will tell you why some folks think it should not have been as close. Boyd scored on its first three possessions (three times before the second one was counted.) Now, when it was 21 to 0 Boyd went into coasting mode like they have in the past. The difference is Boyd is playing in 2A now and SC did not know that they were supposed to lay down because they were beat. All the 1A teams had been conditioned that a 21 point deficit was just too much to overcome. When Boyd went into coast mode the 1A teams would just start going through the motions and with the let down on both sides of the ball Boyd would continue to score points. Boyd does not have the mental edge over the 2A teams and will need to keep up the intensity for 4 full quarters. Once you let down… it is hard to get started again. Someone mentioned the 3 an out just before the last touchdown for SC. If you noticed Boyd was just trying to run out as much time as possible and did not run anything that could even have a chance to get the first down. With Boyd not having much experience needing to run the clock out; they did a poor job of clock management. The back judge puts his hand up and counts down the last 5 seconds. On 1st, 2nd and 3rd down the Back Judge never even raised his hand to start the countdown. SC’s last score came with 14.7 seconds on the clock. Boyd could have easily have taken at least 5 seconds off the clock for each of the three plays. 3 times 5 is 15. If Boyd had been better at clock management, SC would not have had time for the last score.
  6. Actually, there should be a flag on the receiving team. It is a foul to signal for a fair catch after the ball has be caught or grounded..
  7. Boyd’s defense is young… and it showed on that first drive. On offense the entire backfield is new and got very little playing time last year… as a matter of fact… the same goes for the defensive backfield. They are still trying to come together as a team. Their success or lack of success this year will depend on how quickly they gel as a team. They were, in fact, the least impressive team last night, but you’re making a mistake if you judge how they will perform in the region based on last night’s lack luster showing.
  8. In the scheme of life these kind of things remind us all of what is truly important. Our deepest sympathy and prayers are extended to the family. From a Boyd-Buchanan supporter.
  9. You’re right. I wrote the Goodpasture score down wrong. Sorry. I did this for the FC and Coalfield games and it worked out pretty close. It is not a science… just food for thought. If we take 9 points off. DCA was 14 better in the second comparison and BBS 24 points better in the last comparison and BBS is 7 points better over all. The post was simply four comparisons of common opponents’ performance of an opponent. This is the best indicator we have since we have heard all year that DCA was the best team last year except for one injured player. TheScout, We know that both teams a basically the same as last year and BBS was 23 points better. So are you saying that one player being 100% instead of 60% or 70% will make DCA 20 points better on offense and make their defense give up 20 less points? I know that the kid is good, but I am not sure 30% to 40% of one player can make that much of a difference. Of course, DCA may have had other injured players that I don’t know about. As I said before… the team with the least amount of turnovers wins by 7.
  10. Well… the last two comparisons of common opponents have been within 1 and 3 points of the actual results. Let’s see how this one stacks up. First: DCA > FRA > FC > BBS DCA was 41 points better than FRA. Friendship Christian was 18 better that FRA. BBS was 28 better than FC. BBS 46 better than FRA. BBS 5 better than DCA. Second: DCA > CPA > GP > BBS DCA was 21 points better than CPA. CPA was 14 better than Goodpasture. DCA was 35 better than Goodpasture. BBS was 30 better than Goodpasture. DCA 5 better than BBS. Third: DCA > Cascade > Watertown > BBS DCA was 35 better than Cascade. Cascade was 8 better than Watertown. DCA was 43 better than Watertown. BBS was 35 better than Watertown. DCA 8 better than BBS. Last: DCA > Ezell > GP > BBS DCA 37 better than Ezell. GP 40 better than Ezell. GP 3 better than DCA. BBS 30 better than GP. BBS 33 better than DCA. The numbers say BBS by 25. I am more incline to think it is going to be a toss up and the team with the least amount of mistakes wins by a touchdown. It should be a great game to watch.
  11. 35 - 13 is 25. I was close. Congratulations Coalfield! You had a great season and played well.
  12. For you folks who are out of town and plan to be here in spirit. You can listen if you have web access. The BBS alumni association is sponsoring a web-cast of the game. http://www.ezstream.com/broadcasts/index.c...oadcasterid=255
  13. CYJacket, My condolences on the loss of your friend.
  14. It is not currently raining, but we have a chance for more through tonight and early Thursday. It is not supposed to rain after about noon on Thursday. It will be wet. There is no where for it to drain. We can only hope for sunshine and wind. I guess that is my bad on the wet field being a disadvantage just for BBS. I thought that Coalfield’s running game was a power game and that they had a great passing game. Last week the field was wet, but it was not raining. That allowed the FC passing game to be successful in the first half by having a dry ball and slowing down the BBS pass rush.
  15. Last week BBS had lots of trouble with the wet field in the first half. There were many times that Mat and Drew slipped down when they were trying to cut back. By the second half the footing seemed to be much better and they were able to cut back and had several big runs. Speed and quickness are BBS’s big advantage on both sides of the ball. Unless BBS finds a way to get traction… the soggy field conditions will reduce that advantage and will therefore be an advantage for Coalfield. Just how much of an advantage will not be known until Friday night. If BBS were to turn the ball over a couple of times it could be a close game.

  17. "washes the theroy" Let's be real... 3A Union 3 - 8----------- Boyd 3A Howard 4 - 7 2A Wartburg 4 -7-------- Boyd 3A Walker Valley 7 - 4 2A Harriman 3 -7-------- Boyd 2A Goodpasture 9 - 4 ---------------------------- Boyd 4A East Ridge 5 - 6 ---------------------------- Boyd DII Baylor 5-5 If you can read this and say that Coalfield's non-region, higher classification games are equal to BBS's... all I can say is that your nose is growing...

  19. rSquared I understand all of the intangible factors of the game and I started out with the statement that the game would be decided on the field. There are many “bandwagon” fans of BBS on here that create inflammatory posts. I try to ignore those posts from both sides. The “on paper” analysis is the source of fan confidence and yes, in some cases, arrogance. BBS is not immune to overconfident, arrogant fans, but the majority of fans are not that way. The coaches and players know that Coalfield is coming to town with the expectation to win the game. They both know that Coalfield can win the game. They spent the weekend breaking down film just like they do every week. I have not received the schedule this week, but I expect they will practice on Thanksgiving day like they did last year. As for the “swamp” thing… this is not an adoption from a traditional winning SEC team. The place is a wet land. Several years back the wonderful city of Chattanooga wanted to solve a flooding problem in the BBS neighborhood. To that end, they told BBS that they would like to build a levee to control the flooding. The City asked BBS for dirt to use and BBS gave it to them. (Some reports are that as much as two feet was taken from the football field and surrounding area.) The City was supposed to maintain the drains and pumps that would keep the water out of the neighborhood side of the levee. Beavers built dams and the city did not keep them torn down and the drains flowing. This caused a back up of water that at times still floods the BBS football field. Not long ago BBS had the beaver dams cleared out, but the environmentalist raised their head from the “swamp” and complained to the EPA. The EPA fined BBS for damaging a wet land, but agreed to suspend the fine if they rebuilt the beaver dams. So, unless you are wearing waders… don’t wonder too far off the track Friday night.
  20. Let me get some things out of the way up front. No predictions, no feelings and no trash talk. The game will be decided by the players on the field Friday night. Having said that; let me get to the logical comparison for the football aficionados. This one is tough because there is no direct team to compare. The only direct comparison is CAK. So, let’s do that one first. BBS beat last year’s CAK team by a score of 37 – 6. That makes BBS (which is at least as good as last year’s team) 29 points better than last year’s CAK team. Since everyone says (and the record shows) that this year’s CAK is not as good as last year’s team. It is safe to say that BBS is 29 points better than this years CAK team. CAK beat Coalfield 70 – 49. That makes CAK 21 points better than Coalfield, at least on “any given night.” This comparison makes BBS 50 points better than Coalfield on a given night. There are several other multi team comparisons that show BBS 30 to 40 points better than Coalfield. The best that I could find for Coalfield was: Coalfield > Oakdale > Lookout Valley > BBS. In this comparison BBS was only 7 better than Coalfield. The real snag with this one is that BBS could have easily had 30 to 50 more points against LV. The score was 56 – 0. If you are still reading… keep up here… this is where it gets deep. BBS 42 Watertown 7 round 1. Midway 28 Watertown 21 game 5. Midway 21 Coalfield 0 game 8. Coalfield 35 Midway 14 round 2. BBS 35 points better than Watertown. Midway 7 points better than Watertown. BBS 28 points better than Midway. Midway 21 points better than Coalfield game 8. BBS 49 points better than Coalfield on that given night. Coalfield 21 points better than Midway round 2. BBS 14 points better than Coalfield on that given night. If you take the total of both the Coalfield - Midway games it is even. Each team scored 35 points. If Coalfield and Midway are even that makes BBS 28 points better than Coalfield. This is not a prediction. It is simply a logical comparison of how the teams stack up against common opponents.
  21. I concede… you were right. FC has improved more than BBS since last year. However one point was not enough of an improvement to matter. Looks like my moronic math was close to being on target. BBS by 28. Hmmm and look what you get if you take away the 7 points handed to FC on the fumble. 28 + 7 is a total difference of 35 points. Let me refresh your memory. The logical comparison said BBS by 29 to 38. It was off by one on the actual score and if you take away the points scored after the uncharacteristic Peardon fumble the number would have been in the range at 35. FC is a very good team. They are without a doubt the best 1A team I have seen the Bucs play this year. Congratulations on a great season.
  22. Not really... the younger guys like to score too!
  23. Cast stones if you feel you must… all I did was give a logical comparison instead of a mindless “what I want to happen” statement. If you had read the entire post you would have noticed that I did not say BBS will win. I did say that the game is decided on the field. I simply gave a logical comparison of the two teams for those who are interested in more than just meaningless chatter. Also for the post that brought up last year’s game… let’s go over the facts from that game. FC did, in fact, out score BBS in the second half by a score of 20 to 14, but I don’t think they “had there way with them”. (Which should have been “had their way with them”) However, It was 35 to 0 at half time and 42 to 7 starting the fourth quarter. FC scored a touchdown with 27 seconds left to go in the game after a hail Mary pass got them to the Bucs 1 yard line. Some starters did play throughout the second half, but not all. Also, it is hard to keep your intensity up when the game is pretty much over by halftime.
  24. Let's look at the comparison games: Watertown FC 24-7 BBS 42-7 Copper Basin FC 49-7 BBS 62-0 So, if my math is correct, BBS is 97 points better than these 2 teams and FC is 59 points better. In theory that would make BBS 38 points better than FC. It has been said that both teams are as good as, or a little better than, last year and BBS was 29 points better last year. So 29… 38… the numbers are in line. However, with the way BBS has started the first two playoff games… all bets could be off if they start the third one the same way. I don’t think it is likely that they will score a touchdown on the last play of the first half again, but then they say third time is charm… On paper it is a BBS win… but the game is played on the field. BBS needs to score early and often or the FC football team may do what their baseball team did to the Bucs last spring. GO BUCS!
  25. As I understand it, Boyd has a hard time scheduling teams. I believe they would play anyone in town that will try to work out a schedule. They added a game this year with a Georgia team. I think all the “big boys” want a patsy for their non-region games so that the win-loss record looks good. Take a look at Boyd’s no-region games. You could always go ask the coaches at these “big” schools to try and schedule Boyd. I suspect another reason the larger schools don’t want to play Boyd would be the gate. Boyd has a great following, but just not the numbers a 4A or 5A team will bring.
