  1. You are right. Josh Dossett, was the one senior in Alcoas DE rotation. He really stayed with it and had a good senior yr for Alcoa.
  2. Alcoas team was great last year and they were extremely young. They only played about 4 seniors last year cobb,OL-coulter, kincannon and tb hodge). The only major loss is qb randall cobb and although not as good as cobb chase james has played his fair shair of snaps at qb and did a great job in the spring. Replacing hodge at rb wont be as difficult as it seems because alcoas leading rusher last season (over 1000 yds, 14 tds, 11.3 ypc) was now junior tb jaron toney. A lot of those young guys are a year better and alcoa seems to be loaded up for the long haul.
  3. This Fr. class at Alcoa is loaded. As good with potential to be better than Alcoas soph class, which is saying a lot considering that group with warren and tyson is one of the best that school has seen. Vanderbilt Hambrick is as good as anyone who has ever come out of alcoa middle school. he will remind a lot of people of shiverdecker with his running style. Tre Tate is another RB who has the potential to do big things for Alcoa. LaJuan Warfield is a wr who will more than likely be Alcoas next big D-1 wr signee and has the ability to be a lot like Lanxter who signed with Kentucky. Another wr is Chaz Vesser. Hes a lot like Sam Thompson. They also have a qb who is around 6'1 or 6'2 who came from maryville. I believe he won the throwing competition at the middle school jamboree. The real key to this class is Coach Rankins son John Tucker. One of the hardest workers you will ever see. His strength and knowledge of Alcoas scheme will help him get on the field early. Look out for this group. They are a great bunch of football players and even better kids.
  4. Former Alcoa standout and florida state freshman All-American TE Brandon Warren is enrolled at UT and starts classes and workouts this week. Hes already moved on campus and is ready to roll. Congrats to a guy who no many thought would get back to this position. However, he said its still up in the air if he will be playing TE or DE.
  5. A lot of QB James getting hit in the scrimmage was not due to the line but to 3rd and 4th string rbs foster and rudd missing guys coming off the edge. Also, in addition to starting LB Jalik Toney not playing the Alcoa defensive coaches were trying something different this spring experimenting with putting LB Conner Miles down at DT. this was just an experiment and he will be back at LB in the fall. The timing was off in the passing game but I think that is due to the fact that Alcoa didnt work any passing game this fall because they only had 4 wrs at spring practice, only one of which (Isom) who will play any this fall and also because wr coach harris was still coaching the baseball team, limiting the amount of things they could do.
  6. From a couple of Alcoa coaches, the qb position is not wide open. Its chase james spot. they say he is clearly ahead of where Austin Tallent is at this point.
  7. The final score in the scrimmage was alcoa 22-14. Alcoa played that scrimmage without wr-sam thompson,TE-DE tyler robinson, who were both all state and leading rusher jaron toney. Also missing were starters lb-jalik toney, te-de-adrian womac, wr-brother walker and a few others but that doesnt diminish what mcminn accomplished. Looks like they have a solid foundation and if they keep up the hard work could have a pretty good year. The only glaring weakness I could see was the secondary where guys who are pretty much Alcoas backup wrs consistantly got behind the 3rd level and had one long td and another one dropped. Still could be a really great year for mcminn.
  8. I believe that the 2000 team doesnt get as much respect because they didnt have all the D-1A players that 89 and 05 had although they still had 3 play at etsu and 1 go to carson-newman. I believe the reason alcoachamp5 said the 2000 secondary was better is because through 15 games they only gave up 2 td passes (wb and goodpasture, both on 5'2 iven mayes). Also, the numbers that the defense put up that season were unreal. To give up 7.2 ppg though 15 games, with the most points given up is 20 in the state championship game is unheard of. Those numbers include the blowout games when the subs were in. D-1, all-americans or not, when you go 15-0 and give up 7 ppg you have to be included in something. 2005's defense with all of those sec-acc players still gave up 12.3. A lot of the success by the 2005 secondary came because of the 2005 D-line at alcoa, which I would have to say was the best ever, making qbs run for their lives. I would say those three teams, 89,00, 05 are the best three and its a fun debate. I would like to see if one of these teams from the next few years will be able to throw their hats into the race as one of the best. I hope so
  9. well everyone already knows about cobb but as far as the others go: Troy hodge- eastern kentucky, austin peay and carson newman are the big three for hodge. Josh Dossett and seth coulter are both possible maryville college guys. coach iruelli (not sure about spelling) was at an AHS practice during the state championship week. Josh Kincannon is more than likely going to try and play baseball in college.
  10. You are dead wrong on that one. Alcoa did not drop Fulton. The only reason Alcoa and Fulton did not play this season was because the schedule would not work out. Neither Alcoa or Fulton could get region teams to move their scheduel around so they could play. And Webb did not try to play Alcoa this year, I dont know where you got that from. I have a friend on the coaching staff at Alcoa and I just called and asked him and he said that never happened. He told me they looked around here for non-region games and could not find anyone to schedule which is why they had to get spring hill and white house. He said they would much rather schedule teams around here and avoid all the travel but it just didnt work out that way.
  11. For some reason a lot of people want to say that Alcoa has had a problem with students meeting the standards to be able to play. A problem that has gone on for decades is quite a bold statement. It seems that you want to pick out a few kids who did not do what they were supposed to academically and lump them in with a group of young men over the last few years that did qualify and those guys should also be recognized. How about giving credit to those who took care of their business in the classroom and tried to set good examples. 97'-Kory Conner- MTSU, Kareem Coffin-ETSU 99'- Chris Talley, Robert Hill-Carson- Newman, Cisco Aponte-ETSU 2001'- Jonathan Meschendorf-Cumberland college, Johnathan Harris-ETSU, James Rainer-Western Carolina-ETSU 2002'-Michael George-ETSU 2006-Brandon Warren-FSU, Martin White-APSU, Logan Love-UT 2007-Kyrus Lanxter UK, Chris Shiverdecker Carson Newman, Darrell Tate, Corey Brewer, cody marsh- maryville college 2008- Randall Cobb, UK or UT will qualify So dont take 2 or 3 kids and say that alcoa does not do what they are supposed to. And when it comes down to it it is the will of the kid to take care of his business in the classroom. The teachers at Alcoa dont give free passes to athletes which is the way it is supposed to be. You look at some high schools and players the caliber of a Dustin Lindsey qualify no matter what because it is handed to them and some cant even read. so I think you should be proud of the academics at Alcoa for showing its about more than scoring TD's and really trying to teach these young men the academic tools they need to make it.
  12. Here is your answer to alcoas recruiting. the breakdown of the alcoa players you saw contribute and where they went to middle school 1- Warren- FR- Alcoa middle school 2- Tyson-FR- Alcoa middle school 3- thompson-JR- AMS 7-Cobb-SR- AMS 8-James-JR- AMS 9-Toney-JR- AMS 10-Robinson-Soph-AMS 15-Toney-Soph-AMS 17-Robinson-soph-AMS 19-Dando- Transfer from heritage- Season stats 3 catches 21Hodge-sr- AMS 23-Cline-jr-AMS 28-Herbert-jr-AMS 30-Broadus-soph- Dad is in the army and family moved to the area 33-Williams-jr-AMS 52-Hickman-jr- Family is from knoxville, now has a house in alcoa. came to ahs as a frosh, possible in middle school 54-mile-jr-AMS 55-coulter-AMS 85-Kincannon-sr- Came from maryville as a soph 86-Dossett-SR-AMS 89-Robinson-soph-AMS 90-Womack-jr-AMS Those are the main guys on alcoas football team. If you go down the rest of the roster the rest of it pretty much looks the same. So buying a championship, I dont think so
  13. To give you a better idea of alcoas offense, ill tell you to read what rebelron wrote. They are a lot like west virginia when they do go to a spread look but they are also in a two TE set a lot and will try to just run the ball at you. Ill just give you a better idea of personel. It all starts with cobb. right now hes completing around 70% of his passes ( a little over 80% since the maryville game) with close to 1500 yds, 18tds to 2 ints. over the last two seasons hes thrown 43 tds to 6 ints. he also has over 700 yds rushing with 14 tds, avg. around 12 ypc. Next is TB Troy Hodge #21, who is just over 1,000 yds with 24 tds and over 10 ypc. His backup Jaron Toney,#15 is a soph who was the leading rusher for most of the season and has just under 1,000 and 14 tds. For the season he is over 12 ypc and had 9 carries for 160 yds and 2 tds in alcoas win against gp. Cobbs favorite targets are jr wr sam thompson and soph TE tyler robinson. Thompson is right now at 23 catches for over 700 yds and 12 tds. He has stepped right into that roll of go to guy replacing lanxter and sommer. Robinson is alcoas leading receiver in terms of catches. hes around 6'4" 220 and has scored 7 tds this season. Alcoas FB is #2, freshman taharin tyson. Hes ran for over 300 yds and 8 tds this season and is a load at 5"10" 220 pounds. At times alcoa will also split #8 chase james out at wr other than cobb could be the best athlete on the team, just lacks focus at times. On the o-line alcoa will lean on jeff hickman, seth coulter and josh kincannon, all of whom started for the tornadoes last season. I hope this gives DCA fans a better look on what alcoa does and whos there. I talked to one of alcoas coaches and he told me that this would be by far the second best team theyve played this year behind maryville and that their running back is the best that they have seen this year.
  14. qb for dca throws very well. the passing game is not the caliber of cak's.
  15. You must be out of your mind to say he couldnt play at ut. hes not fast enough? umm he ran 11.1 electronic timed 100 meters last spring. Hes more athletic than warren and that is really saying something. This post has got to be from someone who just wants to argue. If youve looked on rivals and saw his video there is no way in the world you could say that.
  16. Hey HSfootball54, The easy way to stop reading what alcoa fans are saying is " Get off the message board". You must really like to read it as much as youre on here complaining.
  17. By the way the "too hype" that Alcoa does is something that has been going on at Alcoa since the 80's. Too Hype to Alcoa is like rocky top to ut. so hate it if you want, its a tradition at Alcoa that is not going to stop. Every kid that plays pee wee football in Alcoa waits their turn to be able to do too type. They dont do it for the other teams, its something that Alcoa does for themselves. So say what you want to. People tend to disrespect and talk about things they dont understand.
  18. Its not illegal to go to different high school from middle school. The tssaa has no rules on a player leaving from middle school to high school. the rules are if you transfer high school to high school. you are allowed a clean slate coming from middle school and are allowed to attend any high school you want providing you are accepted. Lanxter (who by the way came from bearden but lived in alcoa, and still lives in alcoa in the andover subdivision), sommer both came in from middle school so their is nothing against what they did. shiverdecker was the only one who went high school to high school and he moved into the area because he had to. his mother was sick and needed care from her sister who lives in alcoa. that is correct but the toneys also went to middle school at alcoa and had a brother that went to the high school.
  19. Yeah, Alcoa is really down this year. they are only winning 2A games this season by an average of 45 -12, and this is with a running clock and rankin putting in the 2nd teams in the 3rd qrt of most games. And they were only beating white house 41-0 at halftime and spring hill 21-0 at halftime. Wow, you must really stink when youre only loss comes the 10th ranked team in the country who has won 50 something in a row. As for Alcoa having no receiver. Hmmm I think i saw where Sam Thompson is averaging over 40 ypc with 5 td catches of 40 yards or better. Sam youre going to have to get a little better. Also, who needs to throw the ball all over the field when you have three people running the ball and averaging 9 ypc or better. Soph rb Toney-609 yds, 12.2 ypc, 6 tds- hodge 495 yds, 9.2 ypc, 12 tds- cobb 374 yds, 10.1 ypc, 6tds. they also have a freshman FB tyson at 220 pounds with 6.8 ypc and four tds. In additon cobb is completing 60 percent of his passes with 9 tds to only 2 picks. So when they throw the ball they are very effecient, which is what wins football games. Be effecient and dont turn the ball over. Sweetwater has a wr on their team that is better than any wr on alcoas roster but what does it matter if he can run a 4.4 and jump over everyone if you cant be effecient in getting him the ball. News flash people, you dont have to be D-1 to win state championships. Alcoa is a great team and is growing up fast. You have to remember that alcoa only has 5 seniors out of 75 players that ever really play. Those young guys have really started to figure things out and are peaking at the right time. As for no championship coming out of blount county. You better show me a team that can be maryville on the field. They have not lost in 50 some odd games so until a teams proves they can beat them, they are the best. Win it again maryville and show just because youre not winning by 40 every single game doesnt mean you arent a good team. Last time i checked it only takes 1 more poing than the other team to win a game and so far maryville has done that every game and alcoa all but one.
  20. He will taking a visit to both Austin-Peay and Eastern Kentucky
  21. Cobb is 100 percent playing. he is about 85 percent on that ankle but hes looked as good as ever throwing the ball. I should point out that cobb made his living as a qb throwing the ball not running it last season. he still has more than enough ability to get the job done even with his limited mobility. Sommer and hodge have really responded to the suspension and will play friday night in the second half. the suspensions hurt alcoas defense more than offense as they still have plenty of weapons in sam thompson at wr, tyler robinson at TE, jaron toney and the freshman darrall warren at tb. I think both hodge and sommer will more excited than ever to get on the field friday night.
  22. sommer and cobb both practiced today and will play friday at spring hill. cobb went through about 60 to 70 percent of practice today but only took reps on offense. sommer also had a good day at practice as did fullback taharin tyson whos ankle continues to improve. Alcoa will not have anyone out this friday night.
  23. Alcoa won 15-13 tonight and moved the ball very well. Would probably have scored more if not for two fumbles. One of the fumbles came on a first and 10 on oak ridges 13 by randall cobb on a fumbled snap and the other came on a randall cobb run of about 15 yards. Other than the fumbles alcoas offense moved the ball great and the young defense has been much improved over the last two scrimmages. By the way did anyone else see alcoas FR. Darrall warren and stephen isom looked good but i was most impressed with the play of FR qb austin tallant. He will be an unreal qb on the varsity level when his time comes.
  24. Hodges shoulder will be fine. had the scrimmage continued he was going to come back and play against SD and Farragut. I believe the plan of the alcoa staff was to only play hodge a few series the entire day.
