  1. to redboy, First off each coach has so many dates and matches that they are able to wrestle. This means that they have a limited space as to whom they may wrestle. So logically they want to wrestle the D1 guys first and than with dates available fill in with other teams they can wrestle. This means that you cannot always wrestle someone because you need to wrestle those that are in your division first. Why would you want competition against those you do not have to beat to win state. You say its to beat the best to get better, but buddy you beat the best when you are in a tournament not always in a dual match, both make you better. So theres your logical answer. Also when your talking to legman about not having logic, buddy he has forgotten more about wrestling than you even know about the sport he has many rings he can show you for that. He does not have to retain logic when you have the results that he has. Let see Bradley does not schedule D2 teams but has how many state championships to show for it? Its like being a college team. Even though ex. okl state is the best not every team can wrestle them and there are plenty other wrestlers that get better thoughout the year that get better wrestling other teams. I mean with your logic why even wrestle tenn teams why not drive a little and wrestle georgia, florida, and virginia teams those states might have better wrestling than we do? later cobra
  2. oh Lord i guess horses love to be beaten. this is my take on the whole idea just my two cents. Keep things the way they are. the duals and the individual tournaments the same as they are. size of school should have no baring on if a kid wins state or not. that is just a fallacy.if you dont believe me talk to a wrestler named tim voiles. he was the ONLY wrestler on his team yet was a two time champ and 3 if not four time placer. OUR sport is done on a individual basis get some of these coaches for smaller teams to ask around the bigger teams to let them practice with them every now and than, this helps both schools and i know many coaches who are willing to do this. also kids for all size schools if they want to get good need to participate in summer wrestling programs that are strewn through the whole state. my 5 year old nephew just began kids club and will wrestle a summer program also. this is the way to get good. Tim would practice with Soddy almost every dayto get quality competition that is a drive that more kids need. we dont even need this public private split (but that has been beaten to death even more.) I would hate to be the kid that wins state in A/AA when he hasnt beaten the 1st through 5th place AAA kids or vice versa. in the words of a immortal Ric Flair- "you have to beat the best to be the best" that what wrestling is the duals are fine the way they are i have no problem but i hate the classification in Georgia and i would hate it here too. more champs does not = better
  3. if im not mistaken whitt durden was the number one ranked wrestler in the nation a few years ago. wrestled in the southern open in two weight classes one year when it was tough and won. went on to wrestle at ok state or oklahoma. also joe clark was pretty good too beat kevin ward one year at the McCallie tourney.
  4. brothers boy is michael marable he placed 2 (160) to wheland in 2002, 1st (171) against blake luttrell in 2003, and 1st at (189) against derek walker. i mean come on dont lie about who you are out there if someone guesses it, unless your just some nobody that likes to use michaels stats. also why are you not wrestling at utc your still working out and you can see how good you really are by doing what you did in high school in college. i admit i was not very good but i do help coach and there is a HUGE difference from what Meredith did last year to what he is doing this year. I have had the pleasure to watch him many times this year and he might be the best wrestler in the state, with manson, and even whitt. he would give you a run this year bet on that i watched you for all your years in school and he compares very well to you this year, to you last year. plus there is no one else in the state brother can be if hes telling the truth about what he has done.
  5. Soddy won pretty big. we had 4 champions. McCroskey, Toney, Roberson, and Letner beat the number one ranked guy in double overtime from Dickson County. Ryan Fuller got beat by Kellen Holliman. And Mikey got beat by a kid from Maryville. The rest of the champions were Smyrna’s Ethan Jones (103), Brentwood’s Chase Sanders (112), Maryville’s Nick Shields (125), Brentwood’s Kellen Holliman (135) and Nic Chamberlain (140), Maryville’s Landon Hall (152), Blackman’s Aaron Martin (171) and Kenny Meredith (189) and Knox Halls’ John Vandergriff (275). this is courtesy of Chattanooga times.
  6. first, you are a senior grow up your supposed to be close to being a man so act like it. There are no reasons to get into the face of a ref at any point during a match. i myself hadmany questionable calls in my career including one that cost me a place in the state my senior year. but at no time did i ever take the call out on the ref. i know we all can get carried away on the mat it is a emotional sport thats what makes it so great, but those emotions should fuel you to wrestle up to the challenge not to make bad choices. i will not make any comments on if i would keep you on the team or not that is up to your coach but you have to take better care of your emotions if you want to be a wrestler, this is not a sport for the weak or thin skinned if you want that play baseball.
  7. sorry gripper, but i think you have some things messed up. yes ensminger is doing pretty good this year but he has lost at least once to felix and that was very very badly, i think he has lost to him twice maybe someone could help me on that one. He barely got by Fuller thursday and sorry to make excuses but fuller was sick thats why he missed father ryan. it would not happen again. and fuller beat felix at brentwood pretty handily. i was there watched it happen and thats after he BARELY lost to him at McCallie tourney. so i think Ryan at 1st is pretty good considering he heat both Holliman and Felix this weekend. but of course rankings mean nothing what happens now is just prep for the real thing in FEB. Later
  8. also both rankings just have no clue but the first fuller from Soddy is Mikey Fuller not Ryan you have it on there twice just like matmans rankings Ryan is the second fuller at 135 and i would think that he would be very tough against wright considering he almost beat Fellix at McCallie and Wright finished lower. just my two cents besides that looks very good.

    Soddy?

does anyone know what happened to the Ringgold Soddy match tonight. Went by the round gym and there was no one there. than went to the high school and no was there either. Anyone know what happened because it was on the schedule as a home match. later
  10. did Soddy not go to this tournament? i thought they would be at it. it was on their schedule. anyone have an idea if they went and if not why not?
  11. hey does anyone know where mickey and ryan wrestle at? i figured at least one of those would win! well coahc henry is going to have a tough time this year even though Baylor has a veteran lineup for the most part. i knew we would get beat but not this bad.
  12. well tony,i do think that we will get beat by ooltewah next week. but i do not think it will be a spanking. Yes we had trouble with heritage last week. but teams have different strengths and weaknesses that make them play teams differently. hooterville has not played a team that even knows what a forward pass is. maybe East Ridge but really how good is East ridge? And Soddy throws them VERY WELL!!!!!!!!!! Soddy can also run the ball which keeps defenses on their heels. So Soddy will get their points. So the question is can the Owls block 7 or 8 people in the box and also throw very consistently? i mean i have heard your QB is pretty good but how much has he had to throw? Soddy will make them throw the ball to beat them. this is the key to the game. I will make my prediction 27- 17 Ooltewah. Because it is at the nest and Soddy cannot stop a decent passing attack playing man to man. buti do not think caldwell will run rampant on us either.
  13. Thank you dms and all of the brave soldiers over in the middle east and abroad, no matter how small you might think your job is. Every one of your jobs are important for us to win this war. I THANK YOU and all the others over there for what you do to protect me and my loved ones. I pray daily for you survival and for you to come back home to see your loved ones very soon. God Bless you!! And keep you safe in his arms. Sincerely, Doug Benton W'2004 stands for WIN!!! and dlu you must have been watching another debate if you think Kerry won tonight sorry but he couldn't even win a debate against himself he would be too confused. I do not totally support the war over there, but i do support the troops and this admistration that keeps us safe over here on the homefront. I would hate to see the road that Kerry will take us on if he wins!! Sorry about the politics on here guys.
  14. yes they did schedule us that year and they beat us at homecoming by a point. And that was with Eric westmoreland, and although they are good players, neither healy, or any other player at Boyd is as good as westmoreland was. Eric was a beast. the next year though we did go up to Marion and beat them pretty bad. i think it was the end of a long time home field win streak. we were spit on cussed and had bottles thrown at us. it was actually very scary. but they did step up to play us and took it right at us on our own homecoming. i wished that boyd would do the same and play some higher classification teams maybe not a 5a team but at least a very good 4a team, maybe even Rhea county would be a good game for them. i mean east ridge was very close to beating them. even playing tyner would probably be a loss. but they are very good in the class, but they do get some advantages of being a private school.
  15. hey Indian, i do not remember EVER scrimagin Seq. county and i played for Soddy through 2 years of price and 2 years of Ryan. we would scrimage McCallie, and Warren County, even BGA but never did we scrimage Seq. county. you must be thinking of someone else. and i promise we would have beat you pretty thoroughly each year with Jarvis Smith(should have been D1(Jail), Lydell Blue(carson newman), Chuck Losey(vandy), Avery Blue(CN), Robby Massengale(Cumberland), Conal Jones(could have went D2 father passed away senior year), Duran Smith(Marshall), Victor McClure(Tenn) and others. Sorry but i have watched your team for years and at no time would you be able to compete with us. Sorry it would not happpen, and even this year it would not happen. Maybe when price first got there which we had not had a winning season in 20 years but i think that would have been 91 or so. Also i have the book in front of me and the best we had in one senior year was 2 D1 players, and two players one to tenn techDavid Collett kicker and lydell to CN. Also you could not compete with us in wrestling either that would be a joke.
  16. well i will go down my list: no particular order James "little man" Stewart, Eric Westmoreland- played against and he was a man against boys Travis Stephens Kirsten Biggers Gerald Riggs Jr.-has the name and also has a pretty good game, whatched him many times in high school Ricky Upton-had the not so pleasure of playing against him, and he would make you pay Reggie Cobb Eddie Moore-watched him play many times and he was amazing Also if Eric Locke was a rb and not a QB than i would list him, because he was a one man wrecking crew. Saw what he can do first hand Soddy Daisy game. Also Troy Fleming was a good 1A back, but theres a big difference when you step up, because we scrimmaged BGA preseason in August of 98 and he gained about 15 yards on 20 or more carries against Soddy Daisy. if he would have gained all those yards in 5A than i would probably give him more credit but he was still a good back.
  17. doodle is a lb. pretty fast, and can lay a hit on anyone. he is also always close to the ball, seems like he has a nose for the ball. he was picked as a preseason all state pick. so he will be someone that WB has to deal with and we have more than that to deal with. also being slow or fast as a running back is not always that important. a good defense can usually stop a fast running back. a running back needs to have both speed and power and MOMO has both of those he will be very important to this game and with the running game our passing game should open up. we are very balanced this year. we should have beat you last year if not for the 4 or five fumbles lost. i pick Soddy-24 WB- 17
  18. also twin tiller i bet that sdballer is a db for soddy's team, maybe that will help you out with who he is.
  19. i will admit that i do like the system that coach weathers is using up at the school. he gives much more options to the offense to work with, and with Momo at running back we actually are very balanced for the first time since Danny william, and Brent Maynor were are quaterbacks. even though the kid last year was very good at throwing also. also i played for soddy years back and have watched them every year since. i was also a defensive back. sorry, if fabry did not have such a bad game than the defensive backfield would not have looked very good. way to many blown coverages and the ball underthrown a few times when the corner was beat. you face a quaterback like the kid from oak ridge and i bet he could throw for over 200 yards. thank goodness we have until the end to get better. also red bank is terrible, this week will be MUCH more of a test for us, and thank goodness WB does not throw, we can stop the run. Doddle is a player also it might have been a very good idea for him to give up wrestling even though we could use him. also the streaker was hilarious i did not know that it was fuller, im just hoping that he doesnt miss to much of the season we need him as much as possible. im sure that Coach Fuller was laughing his head off too. later cobra
  20. well seriously, this game was very ugly. neither team to me could hang with a team such as oak ridge, tyner, maybe even ooltewah(with their running back). the quaterback from soddy was saved a few times by his receivers and on one play though the receiver got hit in the chest and reflected right to a red bank kid, plus the sure touchdown on the first series if he had threw it a foot farther and the receiver didnt have to wait on the ball., the db was burnt. Fabry looked good at first. one reason because Soddy has no secondary, and two the little number 2 can catch. after that though he started to put to much air on the ball and that equals pics. Soddy i think finally found themselves a running back, because colbert looked very good. not sure how many yards he had but he can run. Anyways both teams have got to hold on to the ball combined for like 8 turnovers. i know it is soddy's first game but still if we had opened up with a better team we would have a L not a W. enough of that, im looking forward to seeing them play more though.
  21. i as a Soddy faithful never did promise a Soddy win. I watched many games with this team this year and they really play up and down. Ex. beating beech and Goodpasture but loosing to Ider, alabama, and hendersonville. I mean that is what happens when you have no seniors on your team. they are a very tough team but i was worried about teams such as beech, DC, as well as others. I mean there were absolutely no bad teams in this tournament. I will say if the girls would have hit like they are capable of they could have and maybe should have won! But they did not and thats what really matters. Also you did see that these are arguably two of the premiere coaches in the game today(sad to here Brinkley is retiring), i mean what can you say for one coach that has 6 state titles in 17 years with only one runner-up finish? and Brinkley owns 3rings with 2runner-ups in 8 years. i would take either to coach. Also i will predict that in the next three or fours years Clifford will own two if not three more rings to add to his 6 already. Congrats to all state champs this year and good luck in the future. also congrats to Soddy Daisy for a season well played you represent the community very well. later cobra
  22. hey guys i think all of these matchups are right have all but the west. Region 1: Jefferson County over Morristown East Region 2: Farragut over Knox Central Region 3: Soddy Daisy over Red Bank- very close game like all the rest Region 4: Coffee County over Blackman Region 5: Beech over Dickson County Region 6: Brentwood over Centennial Region 7: Central Merry over Munford/Dyersburg winner Region 8: germantown over Collierville I am not sure about the region 7 or 8 but that is what i have found so those are my picks. Should be some very good games. My girls from Soddy have their work cut out for them so good luck Lady Trojans!

Gibson wins MOW award and match award goes to Bundy vs. Coleman(112)
  24. soddy loses 125(very big), 135(very big), 145, 152, 160, 189(very big), 215. this is what i know of. 130 has been a toss up all year so that should be pretty easy to fill next year. 140 i cant remember if tyler ferris is a senior or junior, and 152 was also wrestled by a underclassmen this year who beat the senior once in challenges so thats also a easier spot to fill. but losing at least 125, 135, and 189 will be very tough to fill. later
  25. texas, its not a hard point to grasp why SD gave up the points to Gibson. the match was over from that point on after the 152 match. if Thurman who was moved down gets any kind of a win there we have a better chance to get back some points and make some move towards a win. btu thurman lost a close match so why put a JV kid out there get pinned in less than 30 seconds and than get beat. coaches know when a match has been won or lost at that point. i mean bryant could have wrestled against letner after that forfeit if it was close. he pinned letner very quickly last time and than there was the forfeit at 189. i mean the match could have been totally different if SD had won the match at 215 by pin like last time and if Shawn could have won 275 after being a 171/189 lb but it didnt so the bullets had run out and there wasnt much else to do. math just doenst work with wrestling there is to many upsets and surprises. so Soddy had ran out of bullets way before having to forfeit to one of the best wrestlers in the state.
