  1. Don't mistake me with a Jeff County fan, I've simply seen Jennings and Houston play, and they are legit.
  2. No Quarterback? maybe you should suit back up and lead the Smokin' Bears to victory.
  3. Vanderbilt must think Jennings is fast enough. Why is it so hard to believe that Houston runs a 4.4? I've seen more than my share of 4.4 guys (Carson Newman), and Scooter can run with those guys. The scary aspect of Houston's speed is that he translates his speed on to the field where as some so called 4.4 guys can only do it in spikes and Daisy Duke track shorts on.
  4. Of course I knew that, it's still hard to mention his name without thinking of Alcoa-my mistake.
  5. Just wondering on what everyone thought on our area's head coaches. Who is your top 5 and why? Here's mine (alphabetical order) -Steve Brewer -Sevier County -Graham Clark-DB -Scott Meadows-Alcoa -Gary Shephard-Halls -George Quarles-Maryville
  6. To bad we don't play football with paper and pencil. The hardest thing about playing football is if your a team with other teams gunning for you. We won the state in 99, but we had a BUNCH more talent in 2000(in my opinion). The difference is that in 99, we snuck up on people with game plans and had a bunch of kids that were too dumb to know that they weren't supposed to win. Attitude is the leading tool when determining a winning team. In 2000, we opened up the season with a win against Oak Ridge, and our guys are like "we'll repeat." After week three, we are ranked #1 in the state. We get beat by DB, which came down to a missed 2 point conversion. What I'm saying is that with all of this talk about "15-0" and spanking this team and spanking that team doesn't mean one thing. As a Sevier County man, I see more than 2 capable region teams to deal with. Obviously, DB has earned the bill as "team to beat" because they do it on the field year in and year out. Another obvious fact, from a coach's view, is that Jeff. County has the players and head coach to beat anyone, on any night. How about teams like South Doyle? In my opinion had more talent than anyone in our region the last 2 years. Bearden is getting better, they don't beat theirselves(scary aspect). In the other region, if Farragut ever gets kids to come out and play like they did in the 80's, they will compete with Oak Ridge year in/year out in Region 2. Our players have enough pressure every week to get a first down, much less a win. We all must remember, these are HIGH SCHOOL KIDS, none of them are "superstars", just yet. What I've learned over the last few years is that the stud QB's girlfriend might have cheated on him on Thursday night before a game, a few players might be thinking about the parties after the game. There's much more that affects a game than potential and 40 times. I must admit, that I love all of the smack talking on here. Conversation is effective whether it is negative or positive- it lets a person know where he or she stands.
  7. I know you said "in the last 2 years", but if you go back to the 99' semifinal game between Oakland and Sevier County-it looked to me like the East TN team made it look easy running up and down the field on Oakland. If not for Oakland's TB- Oglethorpe, it would have been a lot worse than it was. I believe we put 55 on them, and Oglethorpe ran wild and made it look closer than it ever was with their 20 or 30 points. -I agree, for the most part Murfreesboro, not necessarily Middle Tennessee, has more team speed than East Tennessee. I must agree with JPats with the fact that Jeff County's skilled players are as good as I've seen since the 97 Riverdale team which in my opinion is the best high school team that I've ever witnessed. If Murfreesboro is as dominating as marketed, us boys from TN shouldn't even enter the playoffs. If not for a fluke special teams play, DB would have beaten Riverdale last year, and DB was marginal at best for them last year. -My take is that I'm glad that high school football in Tennessee is gaining some momentum in recruiting as of late. I'm glad that Middle TN and East Tn can lend a hand to the Memphis area in college ball players to represent TN. Web sites like this simply creates conversation with other areas of the state that would not otherwise happen. Keep up the smack talking.
  8. Is there any chance that Coach Duncan could be positioning himself to become the next S.Doyle head coach? Those kids at Powell are losing a class act of a coach. His teams were always ready to play and did their talking with the pads instead of the mouth. As a coach in S.Doyle's region, I hope that Coach Duncan stays as an AD only.
  9. Golden Rule on Water and hydration: -When a you get thirsty, its too late.- So drink water all the time, you can't drink enough water, unless it's during a game or practice, then you want to drink frequently, not neccessarily a lot at once.
  10. I heard Seymour will be more run oriented this season to take advantage of Moore's running ability. Does anyone know if they are still primarily a 4 wide offense, or if they'l change to a split back veer type offense?
  11. Josh Ward- Sevier County 6'1- 305 lbs -I know he is not a 6'6 + guy, but his strength cancels that out. 551 bench 600+ squat 300+ power clean Shane Canteburry- Pigeon Forge I believe he is 6'7 or maybe 6'8 340 lbs. I don't know much about his quickness -both of these guys are seniors and are getting looked at by some pretty big schools.
  12. Has DB considered opening up even more as an offense since they supposedly have a "gunslinger", and a stud WR. As a Sevier County man, I enjoy competing against DB and Jeff Co., because it's a guaranteed gut check, and if we stink it up, a rectum check. We will be an improved team over last year. In last year's DB game, our O-Line dominated the first half, but our D gave up too many big plays for us to have a chance. Our OLine didn't do as well at Jeff, we dropped 6 crucial passes, and our secondary gave them 2. After those two games, we started playing. We lost to ORidge in the first round- we fumbled inside the 5 that would have put us up by 2 touchdowns. Of course, like any good team with lots of pride, Oak Ridge made each of our turnovers hurt with quick hitting TD's. I believe we are getting closer to where we were in 99 and 2000, but still a ways off. I strongly believe we have the toughest region in the state. Check the playoffs and compare to Region 2. You can have a great year of 8-2 and be 3rd place in our region. I guess what I'm trying to say is that we hope eventually that we can get back in the mix with you guys before too long. Let me know what you think(JPats5, guru5, starsnbars, blue21sallyat7,govman, coachdg)
  13. What ever happened to the Christopher brothers that played at Cumbeland Co. in the early to mid-90's. I played with Calvin at Carson Newman, hadn't heard if he is still in the arena league circuit or what?
  14. I bet those teams in Mo'West's path are hating the stall job that East's administration is pulling off. Why would any parent send their kid to Mo'East to put up with that garbage. If they hope to hire someone by the end of the week, it seems to me that they will settle for a desperate coach in search of any h.coaching job. They need to feel lucky that Seals is willing to do it. The administration must have hired the firm that UT hired to find their in-house athletic director. To the players at Mo' East, don't miss workouts due to the administrations short comings. This is a great time for you all to "cowboy up" and prepare to take some frustration out on some teams this fall.
  15. It shouldn't be required, but to have any chance of a successful football season, it is a MUST.
  16. step up in big games? you need to ask those wrestlers he put away quick-like and see how competitve they think he is. If Scooter Houston is the worst skill position player on scholarship at any DI school, then that school could only be Miami. What I'm trying to say is a DI school can't go wrong taking a chance on a guy that is sub-4.4., and that knows what to do when he has the ball, unlike a lot of "speed guys." I scouted the Jeff-West game, and I don't think Houston had enough touches to make a difference. Speaking of West, does anyone know if and where the QB is going to school?
  17. Bearden still runs the same offense that Young ran while he was at Bearden. I would bet that CAK is in the I formation, running isolations, counters, and of course the boot with a high/low from the FB and the TE. If you are familiar with Bearden's offense, then you'll probably see CAK's as well.

    Which coaches left Heritage?
  19. We're praying for the Trojan player. Only God has reasons and answers for everything, no matter how terrible or great. Pray for the family first and foremost. Next, pray for the classmates, players, teachers, and coaches. As a former player and a current coach, your teammates are family. God bless from Sevier County.
  20. If ignorant rules that limit football programs are going to be in place, then they (TSSAA) need to have reps throughout the state checking up on it. My school goes by the rules, but everyone out there knows schools still have contact with their players. It's not that the dead period is a bad idea, it's just implemented in a valuable conditioning time for any fall sport that begins practice in the first week of August. It is true that the few dedicated athletes will work hard anyway, but most won't. With all of the heat related injuries and deaths that are on the rise, having a kid stay in an air-conditioned home for 2 weeks straight and eat potato chips is not a good way to prevent heat problems when practice begins. My opinion for a possible solution is to have each school district decide when their 2 weeks will be taken. The best time would be the 2 weeks right after all spring sports end, or the first 2 weeks that school is out. Most football programs workout from December through August with multiple cycles. Two weeks off from a structured workout regimen will hamper an athlete's improvement in strength and condition.
  21. I'm assuming that all of you all are college football fans. Honestly, I didn't see many SEC kick/punt returners that was anything special. Who was the league leader in both?Derrick Abney of Kentucky? He can definitely play as a specialist at the D1 level. Size is overrated, especially if you can run a sub 4.4. Houston can run, but he also has a lot of football savvy. He is a football player that can fly, not a guy that can fly and happens to play football. If he doesn't end up at the D1 level, it will surprise me. But, if his heart is set on TB, then a place like CN would be a perfect fit.
  22. your right, since coaches can now use "video equipment" instead of projectors, then that is directly related to the playing field. Maybe that's been our problem the last 2 years. I believe that today's players have the advantage in the stength and speed training aspect of football. I also believe that 20 years ago, players were a little less spoiled, and more disciplined than they are today.
  23. they can't practice. From what I understand, this helps cut down on recruiting. Middle School can have spring practice (in shorts). You would think if that an 8th grader is in a feeder school for that high school that it wouldn't be a problem. The problem in the Sevier County School System is that after 8th grade, a kid can go to any school in the county.
