  1. I guess BigBlue should have been more concerned about stopping Unaka instead of telling me how great they were on the PF vs GP thread!!!
  2. Unfortunately, I see no way the Patriots can make the playoffs once again. Not being able to hold onto a 28-0 lead against William Blount or put any point against West is coming back to haunt the Pats.
  3. Like I said before jerk, we have played up, way up in our non-conference schedule. Three of those wins are against district opponents which I'm pretty sure you have to play. Nobody said that Travis was going to the HOF, they are proud of a kid that plays his guts out, and there is nothing wrong with that. Hes gettn 4.6 yards per tote against what you presume to be quality opponents, thats pretty good, that moves the chains every third carry, not bad against good defenses! No need for name calling, just pointing out the obvious. Cudos to you for scheduling up and playing a preety tough nonregion schedule (much tougher than PFs). However, my point is that other than a relatively close game against PF, you have been road kill in your other games, losing by double digits in all of them and by 20 or more in most. DON'T BE SO SENSITIVE!! I have never "downed" the kid, even said I thought he was good, just not DI or anything.
  4. TO the guy from Cosby, I am terribly sorry to have offended you with my comment. I guess I overlooked the fact that your 4 wins have come against Hancock Co. (0 wins), North Greene (0 wins), Chuckey-Doak (2 wins over NG and Hancock) and Cloudland (2 wins over NG and Hancock). My bad!! As for Travis, he has played 3 games versus what I consider to be quality competition (AE, Fulton, and Gibbs). In those 3 games, he has rushed for 280 yards on 61 carries (4.6 yds per carry). Looking at the scores of these games, I am sure he gained some of that total against the 2s and 3s. That is an average of a respectable yet unspectacular 93 yards per game. Against the other teams on PFs less than stellar schedule, he has gained 1127 yards on 161 carries (7 yds per). These teams are a combined 15-40, with a lot of their wins against each other. That is 188 yards per game against bad defenses. I have never seen this kid live, and he looks like a good little back. I just think we need to remember these facts before we enshrine him in Canton
  5. I have been thinking about this new playoff plan. How fair is this? If Jeff beats SD (should be inevitable, orphans are lining up to be adopted by SD because they beat no one) the Patriots will come in third in their district and not make the playoffs. Meanwhile, East and Seymour will finish 4th and 5th in the district and go to the playoffs having been beaten by who? You guessed it, the Patriots!!
  6. As they say in these games, throw out the records!! Emotions and intensity have a way of making some teens go crazy and others to really go crazy. GP is no doubt the better team. They have actually beaten teams that have won. I do have a question for the PF fans. How many of Travis' yards have come against quality opponents? I know he ran wild against Grainger (1 win), Union (1 win over Grainger), Meigs (2 wins), and a horrible single A team in Cosby. I listened to the AE game on the animal Friday while at the Jeff. - Mo. East game. He probably had about 40 yards against AE's first defense, and then racked up some yards against the 2s and 3s. I am assuming the same is true in the other games against teams that can actually line up. Before we start touting him as the next coming of Walter Payton, let him do it against good defenses!
  7. Art, the way I see it, the outcome of the South-TN high game will have no bearing on Boone. The top 4 seeds in the quad will be TN, South, Boone and Mo. West. They all will host. I think the winner between South-Tn High will get Powell, the loser will get Seymour. Boone will host Mo. East and West will host ?? maybe Crockett or Halls
  8. A great win!! The officials took over the game, throwing 24 penalties. At least it was 12 on each side . Those bafoons need to realize we pay our money to watch the players play, not them march off penalties. Is there anyway this team can earn a wildcard? To start 0-4 and finish 5-5 (with a win vs. South-Doyle who is 0-9) is good. I want to see more JC football.
  9. Last weeks results: Sevier Co. 28 South Doyle 0 Mo. West 49 Cocke Co. 0 Jeff. Co. 21 Mo. East 14 Seymour 44 Cherokee 9 By far the best came was in morristown between East and Jeff. The score could have been a lot worse if the officials had not thought everyone was there to see them. 12 penalties on each team, including three huge calls on Jeff's final series as they were trying to run out the clock. In the words of ESPN, "Come on man". Let the kids play. This week, we have two good games between the four playoff contenders. Mo. East travels to Sevier Co., where the Bears are trying to complete the first undefeated regular season in school history. The Canes will be looking to rebound from the loss to JC. Should be a fast paced game between the IMAC's two fastest teams. Prediction - Sevier by 10 Seymour at Mo. West - these two 5A playoff teams will square of to see who can carry the momentum into the playoffs. Points will be at a premium in this game because neither team gives up points easily. West has given up 3 points and Seymour has given up 6 points in the last two weeks. Prediction - West by 1 South-Doyle at Jefferson Co. - the Patriots will finish 5-5 after an 0-4 start. Maybe they have a chance at a wildcard spot. The Cherokees will finish winless in their first year in the IMAC. Prediction - Jeff. by 28 Cocke Co. at Cherokee - who would have thought that these two team would have matching 2-7 (1-5) records. Mobuck says Chiefs to finish 3-7 with win over Cocke Co. Prediction - Cherokee by 14
  10. How are the folks in Greenville reacting to the Green Devils playing a bunch of JV level football teams compared to ehat they used to play every week? We sure do miss you guys in the IMAC, although that would have been one more loss in the conference for us
  11. I agree about Jeff always being IMAC. It took me several years to get used to being in 5A with DB and Science Hill et al. It is good to be back in the IMAC in all sports. It will take some time for the new members to become rivals, but at least we will play each other in all sports. That will help them grow quicker. Lok forward to seeing you guys on a soggy night( at least it will not be muddy!!)
  12. I don't know about the Greenville comment, but I do miss the old IMAC. Canefan, how have you liked the "new" IMAC? I think it is cool to play some new people (Seymour, South-Doyle again in the same region) as well as the old standbys of East, West, Cherokee. It would not hurt my feelings to booot Sevier Co. out though ! Just kidding. They have a great team this year. Look forward to visiting the Canes this week at what I think is the premier stadium and playing surface in the area.
  13. The IMAC playoff qualifiers will be set after this weeks games (at least I think they will be). Here are the standings and predictions on this weeks games. 1. Sevier Co. (8-0, 5-0) - will wrap up IMAC title with a win over South-Doyle. Look for the bears to make a strong play-off push in 6A. 2. Mo. West (6-2, 4-1) - must win out or hope for an East loss to Jeff. Co. or Sevier Co. (like their not anyway) to take second automatic spot. Great defense against the run in the muck at JC. 3. Mo. East (5-3, 4-1) - I think they have qualified for the play-offs, but who knows! Need to finish strong against Jeff. and Sevier to get momentum. Not an easy close. 4. Jefferson Co. (3-5, 3-2) - loss to West last week pretty much sealed my Patriots hopes for play-off birth. Second straight year without the playoffs in Dumplin Valley. Need to win out to build for next year. 5. Seymour (3-5, 2-3) - this weeks game versus Cherokee is a loser go home game. Seymour has played really tough against Jeff. and Sevier, while Cherokee has been blown out by both. 6. Cherokee (2-6, 1-4) - Mobuck could qualify for the dance with a victory over Seymour. Must prove they can play with a good team. 7. Cocke Co. (2-6, 1-4) - if they can beat West and Cherokee, the Cocks could get playoff eligible. Stranger things have happened in Newport before. 8. South-Doyle (0-8, 0-5) - rough first year in the IMAC for the Cherokees. How have the Freshman and JV done this year? I think the playoff representatives from the IMAC will be Sevier Co. (6A and overall champ), Mo. West (2nd overall and 5A champ), Mo. East, and Seymour. My question is do these teams make it or will the two nonautomatic qualifiers become "wildcards"?
  14. This team has improved all year, but they just cannot handle a physical defensive front. West played in our backfield almost as much as our backs did. After taking the lead, West seemed content on not turning the ball over and making the Patriots go the long route on a field that was under water. Don't know what TV looked like, but in person the field was coming up in chuncks. Keep on working Pats, 5-5 is still in reach!!
  15. Friday night was a good night for the Patriots. Lots of kids getting to play, just like the old days. I think the Patriots have turned the corner. We will be on a three game winning streak heading into the Thursday night TV game against West. West will be coming off two very tough games (East and Sevier Co.). I like our chances
  16. You want to talk about weird. This new classification system has me, a long time Patriot, pulling for Mo. West. These teams have little to no history that I know of, and according to schedules here on the T, no common opponents. Hard to get a read on this match-up. It looks to be a grind it out offense and strong defense (West) vs a high flying offense (Sevier). If it stays low scoring, I like West's chances. If it turns into a shoot out, West is in big trouble.
  17. I was not there, but a good friend of mine was in the stands. He said that East absolutely quit and that East defense could not stop the run on a consistent basis. I wonder if East can win with the Howell kid playing QB. How bad is the Ricker kid hurt? The have a tough game this week on the road against Seymour.
  18. After week 6, the IMAC picture is starting to shake out. Sevier Co. (6-0, 3-0) at Mo. West (5-1, 3-0) - Sevier Co. survived Seymour in double overtime. THe Bears look to be the class of the conference right now. Mo. West dominated Mo. East last week, but this weeks game may be even bigger. My pick - Bears by 7 Jefferson Co. (2-4, 2-1) at Cherokee (2-4, 1-2) - Cherokee looks to be a dangerous team, but the Dumplin Valley gang seems to have righted the ship. Let's hope the Patriots keep on rolling. My pick - Patriots by 21 Mo. East (3-3, 2-1) at Seymour (2-4, 1-2) - Mo. East must pick themselves up from the West beatdown and face a Seymour team that has lost 2 conference games by a total of 5 points. East is no doubt talented, but Seymour will strike you. My pick - Seymour by 3 South-Doyle (0-6, 0-3) at Cocke Co. (1-5, 0-3) - THe battle for the cellar. At least in the NFL there is a first pick in the draft as a consilation prize, but in the IMAC the cellar awaits the loser. I pity the fans that have to watch the two offenses play in this game. My pick - it will end in a 0-0 tie after 10 overtimes
  19. Never let it be said that I cannot admit when I am wrong. Congratulations to Cocke County on their win Friday night 34-0 over Union County. Is it a fleeting moment or a sign of things to come for those in Newport. An interesting week this week with three old rivalry games: Sevier Co. and Seymour on Thursday night TV, Jefferson Co. and Cocke Co., and Mo East vs West. Should be a good night of football in the IMAC!
  20. We will know more about the top teams next week. Sevier Co. vs Seymour & Morristown West vs Morristown East, I think East's plays Seymour following week. West will be at Sevier Co. I think a better Mid-Season report will be made. Well now then smarty pants, it would not have been a mid-season report then. It would be a week 7 report.
  21. With the exception of a couple of teams, week 5 is an off week for most teams in the IMAC. With 5 games under their belts, here are my thoughts on the IMAC. 1. Sevier Co. (5-0) - The bears have looked very sharpe in the opening half with wins over Jefferson Co. and Cocke Co. in the conference. They have beaten Halls, William Blount, and DB. Opponents combined record(4-19) is a concern as to how good they really are this year. 2. Morristown East (3-2) - Probably the most talented team in the league, they have beaten South-Doyle and Cherokee, as well as Anderson Co. Lost a close game to Austin East and a shoot-out with Cleveland. Tee Howell is by far the best player in the IMAC this year. Opponents combined record is 8-14. 3. Morristown West (4-1) - From what I can tell, this team is power oriented. They have beaten South-Doyle and Cherokee in the conference along with Science Hill and Knox Central. Their only defeat was a close one in the opener against Fulton. Opponents combined record is 7-17. 4. Jefferson County (1-4) - while they have not lived up to expectations, the Patriots have played the conference's toughest schedule. They may have righted the ship against Seymour. Look for a run in the second half. They have lost to Greenville, Bearden, Sevier Co. and William Blount. opponents combined record is 16-8. 5. Seymour (2-3) - I was really impressed with their defense against Jeff. Co. the other night. They may cause some problems down the stretch. They have beaten Cocke Co. and Heritage, while losing to Jeff. Co. , CAK, and Daniel Boone. Opponents combined record is 12-11. 6. Cherokee (1-4) - Not much is known about the Chiefs. They lost to Johnson Co. and Mo. East in close ones and been beaten badly by Daniel Boone and Mo. West. Their only win came against winless Volunteer. Opponents record is 13-11. 7. South-Doyle (0-4) - Welcomed to the IMAC by the schools from Mo'town, South-Doyle has yet to crack the win column. They have lost to Heritage and Powell, as well as East and West. Opponents combined record is 12-8. 8. Cocke Co. (0-4) - They have lost 22 straight games and will not win one this year either. What in the world has happened in Newport? Losses to South Greene, Davy Crockett, Sevier Co., and Seymour. Opponents combined record is 11-9. I predict the season will end with the teams in this same order, unless my Pats get hot. Then, who knows.
  22. As a long time JC football fan, all I can say is.... Oh my!!
  23. I have waited to post my reply until my butt was no longer sore from the kicking it took last Friday night. Other than #6, I did not see many bright spots for the Pats. Offensively, nothing has changed except we do not pitch the ball as much as we use to. Defensively, we are in trouble in my opinion against any kind of rushing attack with a physical offensive line. I went to watch both the games in Motown on Saturday, and I was impressed by both of the teams physical play. We have to get better. By the way, I will be watching the Greenville vs Fulton playoff game. That will be a war.
  24. After watching three of the teams sping scrimmages, I think the order will be: 1. Jeff. Co. 2. Morr. West 3. Morr. East 4. Sevier Co. 5. Seymour 6. Cherokee 7. South-Doyle 8. Cocke Co. The Thursday night game in beautiful Dumplin Valley will determine conference champion. East, to be fair, was without most of their skill players when they scrimmaged in the spring. Jeff. Co. will be loaded. Anything but a state title will be a disappointment according to Coach Anderson.
