  1. Just when I thought that my neck of the woods couldn't get more ignorant, Loretto comes in and saves the day! To the guy that says "anyone can win with that talent," I doubt you probably could. Talent doesn't win. Getting the talent to buy in does. Obviously, Micah got those kids to buy in. The first few years was rough building a program that had been bad since Moses walked the Earth. He did it, and the hard work paid off. Even went to the state tournament since the Truman administration if I remember correctly. But I guess anyone could do that. Looking at it from a coach's perspective, Loretto is damaged goods right now. The firing looks shady and no one reputable will be wanting this position. I hope that middle school coach can coach some hoops. From experience, I can say that middle school coaches are usually coaching middle school ball for a reason - they aren't very good. Micah looks to be in a good spot in his life. I'm sure this hurts, but he'll manage just fine. Would love to see him back up in our area where he'd be appreciated. Not in some political cess pool. And to the MLB pitcher who supposedly got this done....being a below .500 pitcher that was lucky enough to pitch for the Yankees makes you better than average (except for the W-L record), but it doesn't make you a basketball guy. Stick with what you know.
  2. I just read what someone posted as the story in the Herald-Citizen for this game. Those writers at the H-C should be fired! Their ability to write stories without being homers rooting for the Upper Cumberland teams is non-existent. Even if their stories weren't unbiased, they are still horribly written. This was as unprofessional as it gets. I'm embarrassed for the guy who wrote it. They should get some journalism kids out of Tech to do the writing. Guarantee it would be better.
  3. Congratulations to Lebanon and Coach Brown! I know Coach Brown from his days as the Macon County boys coach and kept his books for awhile. He was a great coach and was jobbed up here so I'm happy to see him have the success he's had! Good luck and hopefully I'll see Lebanon in the state tourney!
  4. Tennisgirl?? Wow never heard that one before Rockingchair, it just about hurt my feelings tho. I hope your wicker busts out of the seat of that chair and ya end up on the floor!! lol
  5. This is going to sound like excuse making but I can't help it. I do the stories for the newspaper here in Macon for the Tigers and Tigerettes. Macon played the worst game of the year against DCA and if a the Tigerettes would have just hit a few baskets here in there they would have still won. Macon was 5 of 29 from three point land and shot 30% for the game. It was one of those games that seemed to go DCA's way but don't read anything into it. I know they advance and we go home but Upperman if they do anything at all will beat this team by 45. If Macon played them ten times then they'd win 9 of them by double figures and the one that DCA wins would have to be more of the Tigerettes beating themselves which is exactly what happened Friday night. Good luck 7AA!!
  6. Ok even though my prediction came a year late where 7AA I felt could win some games, they did manage to take their two home games tonight. Congratulations to these two and I hope you represent your respective schools well. I am still sticking to my guns that if district realignment wouldn't have happened and Lipscomb, MLK, and Hume-Fogg were still around then it might be the next century before you guys won a game but you play the cards that are dealt and you done a fine job. Ok Indian now to you. You can do whatever you want as far as deleting me on here because I don't get on enough anymore to amount to anything and I kinda wish you would because it would show a direct abuse of your big bad moderator status that you must be proud of. I've spoke about 7AA in the terms that you said were offensive for a few years now. If you deem that term as inappropriate then thats ok. You can even block the thread, I've had a few blocked in my days of being on here though I've not visited here much recently. BUT you do not go in and make a lil smart comment like that to me and then lock the thread. You can lock it without running your little mouth and making yourself look cool. If being a moderator is a point of pride to you then thats fine. Do your job and try to keep an air of professionalism in doing so. You let the power to block and edit go to your head so you go ahead and do whatever you do to this one but I'll not let you try and punk me out like that. To everyone else, sorry you guys had to read that but over the years we have had some moderators that like to wield the power a little bit too much which is bad because most are fair and do a good job. To everyone else that still has a dog in the race, good luck to your respective teams and I wish you all the best!!
  7. Ok this is one subject that gets me going every year. I hear the 7AA fans who obviously confuse their boys teams for their girls and think they will run over 8AA and every year I refer to the 7AA district in boys as "hillbilly" basketball when they go up against 8AA in regional tournament play. With the exodus of David Lipscomb, MLK, and Hume-Fogg, I thought last year that 7AA might actually win a game. But of course I was wrong as 7AA kept up their downward spiral against teams from the west that are much more athletic, play defense, bigger, etc. Now this year I really do believe that 7AA has a chance to win a game, maybe quite possibly two. But they won't get a team into the finals though this is the year that they might because I do believe that 8AA is weaker than it has been in awhile thought Station Camp and White House are more than either than can handle. So go ahead guys, open up the bashing on me but tomorrow night my prediction of three wins for 8AA and one win for 7AA will come true
  8. My boy Coach Brown and his gals will take this one!!
  9. OH YES I'VE RETURNED!! Its been way too long but I thought I'd come back to give my words of wisdom and I know you've been missing them. Of course I'll have to start with my friend swanson. I hope for the love of all things holy you aren't blaming the refs!! I didn't go to the game but I know that excuse is the most over used, under deserved insult you can give the other team. It does sound like these games between the Range and RBS have been fun though so I hope you guys get a chance to meet up again and hopefully I'll be able to make it. Also Mr. Swanson, you looked in your magic eight ball I'm sure and came up with your predictions for what the Lady Bulldogs will do this season.....don't you think enough pressure is put upon these girls already without you claiming what you think they will do?? I know when you have a big fan base for a class A team like you do, a lot of focus and pressure surrounds the program but swannie the district tournament hasn't even started yet and your ranting about a state championship. Just let them play it out, give their best effort, and see what happens. And if you want to have a good old fashioned knife fight a la' Pattie's Bar style, get on yahoo and we will throw down!! lol
  10. Greetings everyone. This is the first time I've even been on this site in 6 months because like I've said many times before, I might be approaching 30 but I do have a life which means I'm not the people in Carthage who have nothing better to do than rant and post incoherent responses on a site about highschool sports. Since I'm doing some writing for the Westmoreland paper, I had the honor of covering last nights big game. I've heard about all the rants and raves about how great the Owls were and how Tez couldn't be stopped and how Smith County was more physical, etc. I didn't read any because I didn't have to. I'm sure the excuses are pouring in right now about how Smith played terrible and how Westmoreland played the game of their lives, blah blah blah. The thing is I've heard this crap before, numerous times actually. I don't have to read any of this thread to know what is being said by the largely uninformed Owl fans. I did glance at one post though how the better team didn't win because of a dropped touchdown and a miss on a chip shot. It was blind luck that you guys scored on the opening kick off because the cover team didn't hold their lanes and you wouldn't have even had the field goal if it weren't for a turnover. Do you guys realize that ya'll had less than 90 yards of total offense!!?? You guys got hit in the mouth and pushed around all night. Your lucky that before the half Westmoreland didn't score put one in the endzone but you guys don't see when you all get lucky, you only see when you think the other team has. The big play threat that I've heard about and witnessed against Macon County was just that, a threat. Tez had a rough night trying to defend in the secondary and the hit that he tried to put on Kyle Rippy where he came in and tried to lay the boom done nothing more than made Rippy laugh as he shrugged off Tezmania and ran 5 more yards to pick up the first down. I think Tez has got speed and he is a nice player but Bass makes that team go and he had a rough night. Your coaches paniced and tried to throw the ball all over the field in the second half, especially in the fourth, and until the last drive they didn't even have to. You guys got beat, toughest thing for you all to admit for some reason but you did. More than likely I won't be back on this site for another six months which I'm sure gets you guys really depressed but I do have a life so keep the excuses rolling. Westmoreland really appreciates the good blackboard material that was given on here so make your excuses that way they can have even more to go on if you guys happen to meet up again
  11. Ok I really don't like the classless cry or calling anyone classless because they are pulling for one team over another, even if it is a team that is in their area. These teams don't get along really well around here and I don't think RBS if they were the ones sitting in the stands that they would pull for any of the teams that were listed. You can cheer or boo whoever you want, free country. If you don't like it then move. Personally who someone cheers for doesn't amount to anything in the grand scheme of things. The games is played on the court and what happens in the stands has no bearing on anything. Just because some of you believe that you have to pull for the team in your area doesn't mean everyone has to think that. Do you think UT pulls for Alabama or Florida when they go to a bowl game, certainly not! Those teams are classified in UT's area but they wouldn't cheer for them against anyone. Basically someone just needs to quit their crying. It wasn't classless move by any of the players on the other team, it was simply their choice.
  12. Wow, tennisgirl, that one is real original. How about this....you go to bed because people your age would have been there hours ago and you can get up in the morning, pop your geritol pills, and have a great day tending to the cattle.
  13. Yeah thats a great idea, get the kiddie coaches in there and coach. Its a different level and your coaching against men who coaches for a living, puts in countless hours towards making their football team better. Coaching wins on the peewee level where the occasional reverse always goes for a touchdown does not equate to wins on the highschool level.
  14. We sure do need to meet chair, we can do so at next year's region tournament but I better make sure I catch you on the first day because I know you won't be there the second.
  15. H - O - G - E - Y - E HOG EYE HOG EYE JUST GOT BEAT!! Those were the words that I was bellowing out a few times while I was up there and I saw a few of you turn around to look at me yet no one up there from LA looked like they were going to do anything to make me shut up. I figured you would have been one of those too that would have just sit there and took their beating with a whimper.
  16. You best stay on the ol' rocking chair before you break your hip. Let me guess you are one of them old men that were sitting in the top row with your LA caps that came all that way to see something that I told you would happen a week ago.....sounds like you shoulda sit at home, on your rocking chair
  17. Ask and ye shall receive. Someone wanted to know what I would post on this and here it is.......the reason why I've not posted since the Macon County - LA game is a simple one. Normally any time my team gets beat I'm gracious and give props to the other team, but I'd be danged if I would have done it this time because when LA doesn't perform they go and run for the hills and "hollers" like they would say over there. Before a game you can't look at a thread without seeing some kind of blabbering from an LA fan, afterwards you can't dig an LA fan up. There has been like four post from LA fans since last night's game where before hand they were posting four an hour. So I wouldn't get on here and talk if you weren't going to but here I am. I knew that when LA ran across a team that could handle their pressure that they would get beat. They can't play half court and they definitely cannot play with a physical team, they are a gimmick. If they can't press and run you off the court, they can't win. You can do that with some of the slow footed country boy teams in 7AA but you aren't going to do that against 8AA. Its just like another 8AA coach told me while we were watching the game last night, there wasn't a single kid on the floor for Livingston that looked like they had been in a weight room. This has been the problem of 7AA teams, they all think they are Jimmy Chitwood from Hoosiers and all they want to do is shoot. Games now are won more in the weight room, thats the biggest difference. Where you guys work on shooting all the time, teams in 8AA are hitting the weights and work on their defense, not just doing a lil shoot around like everyone in 7AA does. Plus its just another level of athlete, big and physical in 8AA, small and country in 7AA. Until you guys in 7AA figure out that the game has changed and its not just won on shooting alone, you will continue to struggle. Plus I like the fact that your young Pat Riley wanna be coach was going just as bezerk as the team during the 4th quarter. If he coached as good as he tried to look then you all might get something done. But to the seniors on the LA squad who I will be nice to because unlike the people that run their mouth on here from LA, you seem to have class. You guys played hard and gave it your all, you busted tail and you left it all out there. Thats all any coach can ask for and it speaks about your character because you all never gave up. I just wish the people posting from LA would give up!!
  18. Yeah and you guys wanna know something...you beat Lipscomb at the beginning of the season last year but by the end of the year you couldn't have been in the same gym with them. East Lit hasn't been strong in years and I promise you Station Camp, like Lipscomb last year, is much improved. They play against good competition all year long where you guys play against the country farm boys in 7AA and it doesn't toughen you up. Thats the reason why you guys fall like flies in the region tournament and have for a couple of years. Like I said, LA might win their first round game cause Lipscomb and MLK aren't in 8AA anymore but you aren't going to the state or substate, I got the facts on my side. All you guys have is foolish ramblings.
  19. Yeah that terrible Coach Welch from Macon County, he took up for one of his players when he thought they might have got jobbed. The nerve of him actually placing a phone call to take up for the kid. You guys amaze me. Thats part of Coach Welch's job is to take up for his players when something like that happens. Any coach would have done it. You guys are just mad that you didn't get to steal an MVP award. Now I'm not bashing Cates nor am I jealous of his accomplishments. His performance against Notre Dame in the playoffs this past football season was one of the better performances I've seen on the highschool level. But really guys lets call a spade a spade, he is a fine basketball player no doubt, but MVP puhleeze!! And wtaylor was right on about his history lesson on Macon County basketball. They were the last team to win the region back in 99 when we were in 7AA before they fell to Marshall County one game away from state tournament. Plus they've had substate and state appearances before and a Mr. Basketball winner in Joey Tuck and a pleothra of other players that have went on to play college basketball. Now attack us again guys when you don't know what you are talking about. We had a talent slump there for a few years coupled with going to District 8AA where none of the teams in 7AA would even make the region tournament. Guys just get over it, you can't compete overall with 8AA, even without MLK and Lipscomb which has hurt the overall depth of the district, LA should win their first game but no more.
  20. Ok I've read all the unintelligent post I'm going to read from the Livingston fans and others without posting something myself. This is the problem that I knew was going to come when we (Macon) moved back to 7AA. We are treated like outsiders and we are hated, we know that and personally don't care. But this whole thing with the Citizen-Herald stinks to high heaven. When you are tabilating the votes you need to be extremely careful and not screw it up and obviously caution was not used. Wilson Cates is a fine player, don't get me wrong but MVP, really you guys gotta be joking. He isn't even the best player on his team. Stinson led the district in scoring and without him this year we might have been fighting for the cellar. Stinson has been automatic for us and no one has been able to stop him. No doubt he is MVP, not even a consideration. It just sounds like to me the good ol' boy system got us. We know out in 7AA they are going to take care of their own and we aren't considered own and once again thats perfectly fine. I just hate it how the Citizen-Herald wasn't man enough to name Stinson sole MVP after the whole screwing. But I do have some inside info that the paper was going to talk to Coach Melton and ask him if he still wanted to keep Cates MVP despite knowing that he didn't receive the amount of votes that Stinson did. Either way its a rotten deal and someone needs to be held accountable. Plus on another note and I've harped on this for a few years now when district play rolls around......you guys get one good team over here (this year LA) and think they are going to roll through region and to state. Last year it was the same as you guys thought LA was going to roll and they got beat in the first round of region on their own home court!! Though Lipscomb and MLK are in other districts now and are not in the region, 7AA still cannot play with 8AA. I do think LA can win their first game but that will be it. As I've said before, not enough athletes this way to keep up with those teams come post season time. We found out the hard way by playing in that district for four years. Absolutely brutal and when region rolls around you guys find this out but your memory, like your vote counting, seems to remember on the convenient things.
  21. Hello all! Sorry that I'm posting late on this. These posts have been interesting. I wish I could have made it to the game but I was down in Alabama at a friend's birthday party. I'll get the game films and watch what I missed and it seemed like I missed alot. I have already heard about the erroneous reffing during the game which is in itself a hypocracy because RBS is not always the most visiting team friendly place that there is. But I don't think there is any kind of conspiracy theory on anyone's part in all this. Perception is always most of anything and alot of time predetermined notions make someone think that you can't get a call in various gyms. And for anyone that didn't understand what I just said, you talk yourself into it before the game even starts. The statement by gotmilk was very out of line I thought. You guys aren't that much talented than Macon's girls. You do boast a fine team this year but when you get beat by 21 then you can't say your better then that team. That makes you look kind of silly but oh well. I'm sure RBS will rebound from this but someone did address a good statement on here, RBS needs to step up and win one on the road. They can play in their gym and they excell over there but have been shaky at times away from the friendly confines of the gym over at RBS. The statements that had been made by milk and swanson after the two previous games were really strong about two very close games. You would have thought that it was like the old Jordan Bulls against Vol State. Me personally didn't think it would go very well for the Tigerettes because they had been struggling as of late, they hadn't been able to get a break and RBS was coming off a big home win over Clarkrange. Hopefully the Tigerettes can use this as a spring board because we have yet to get hot in district play. And by the way, to the fan that said Macon wasn't a good AA team, they have been playing some good AA teams down to the wire, just hadn't been gettin the breaks. I think the Tigerettes can use this and turn the corner and get a little momentum towards the district tournament and to show everyone that we are a good AA team. And to the Lady Bulldogs, you are heading towards a crucial stretch in your season. With post season looming, Jackson County and Clarkrange are tough to beat down the stretch. Good luck to all teams from here on in!!
  22. Ok first of all I will warn everyone for the length but please do read........ I was alerted the other day that some people got on this particular thread thinking I'm brian fantana. First of all, I will let you all know right now that this right here is me, the guy that everyone thinks that it is that works up at the Macon County Chronicle. From time to time I have let people post under my name (not always the smartest move) but from here on in, anything posted under this name will be me. Second of all, I'm a little bit bothered that muffin and a few others think I'm that but I won't worry about it because people that know me know I am not fantana. The person that told me about this thread told me that the comments of fantana and the subsiquent exchange between muffin and someone else was made around midnight I think on Tuesday night, maybe later than that I don't know. Personally I've not even taken the time to read. But anyways that would be a little difficult for me to make those posts beings that I don't even have internet at the house anymore. Me and my father who couldn't sleep, were up at that time watching the Australian Open tennis tournament at that time. Unless I have the talent to duplicate myself then there is no way I can be in two places at once. And now onto other business.....fantana you screwed up. Like I told swanson a few weeks ago at a ballgame, I figured you were from RBS hence the hate you have shown towards teams up this way. But you did leave me a bread crumb. You said that you knew who I really was through a friend in Hartsville. I asked around and at first I got nothing until I saw a friend of mine that I hadn't spoke to in awhile and I just happened to think to ask him and he started laughing and he said he knew who you were and that you were trying to get everyone up here fired up. And yes fantana I do know who you are though I don't really know you other than the fact that me and brooksy took you for about 20 bucks one night in rook over at "our mutual friend's" house a few years ago. Since I know who you are and if you have a problem with me I can find my way back down there and straighten this out because I do remember you saying that me and brooksy cheated you (yes that did get back around to me). So if you want to talk, just holla at our friend. And finally (I know that you all have been waiting for this), I know I've said some pretty rough stuff over the years on this thread. But I'm no longer participating in the trash talking that goes on. I know that most all of it is in fun and thats cool, but it takes the focus off where its supposed to be. The only regret I have with my family was that my parents weren't sports people because as I've gotten older I started to love sports. I never played basketball or baseball. The first thing I really picked up on was tennis and that was when I was 14. I would have loved to have played everything under the sun when I was a kid. These kids that we cheer on, I'm proud of everyone that participates because this is some of the best times of our lives and sports does a pretty good job of preparing you for some of the high's and low's of life. The kids that play for the most part, love it. They are doing something they love to do. We as fans, parents, etc...tend to get in the way of that and turn it into something that it isn't....simply a bunch of kids getting together and having a good time. So from here on in I'll be cheering on my alma mater, Macon County, but I wish everyone the best of luck. The best thing a lot of us can do is just stay out of the way and let the kids play. I've written papers in school this long and for that I'm sorry. Just had to get my point across and if you all know me then you know I'm long winded. And muffin, though you were being a smart @$$, yes I am going back to school, I will be picking up one class to finish my associates though and the light of graduation is at the end of the tunnel! Good luck to everyone the rest of the season!
  23. I didn't go to the first game, I went to watch one of the best highschool football games I've ever seen but I've gotten the run down from Coach Beam and some of the girls that played in the game and yeah it was gift wrapped....too many misses from the free throw line. And Swanson, I'm sorry but you may be, I've seen you play baseball . And my good ol' buddy jimbo I think you are 100% right about us needing to be a lot more worried about our new district foes than RBS. I think in recent years in boys and girls that is why our teams have done better in the post season is because traditionally up until a few years ago RBS was looked upon as another game where Lafayette was their Super Bowl. Our focus was on district play, not a cross county rivalry. I think RBS has put so much emphasis on the game over the past few years in boys and girls both that they have lost sight of the more important goal and that is post season play. Over the past few years basketball has slipped in Lafayette. Back in our bball glory days football was not very big and alot of the athletes in the school played basketball. Now that football has gotten big again in Macon, a lot of the athletes seem to have left basketball. This is also the case in girls because volleyball has exploded along with girls soccer with is a fall sport. In girls a lot of the same girls play all the sports but that leaves us in a situation because there is no offseason to work on their sport. As soon as they leave one sport their into another and there is no time off. The boys in Lafayette from the mid 80's to the late 90's had a great run of talent and though it may have fallen off, things run in cycles and it will be back. Good luck to my Tigers and Tigerettes throughout the rest of the season.
  24. Ya want to read jibberish just look at your posts . When a team is shooting free throws to ice the game and they don't fall and you come back and win because a team struggles from the field to let you back in then that is gift wrapped, just needs the bow. And I have no plans for the immediate future to get out of school. I love college life and hopefully I can drag it out even longer.
