  1. The 18U games were played on the short fields at Red Bank because Montague Park has been closed down due to Methane gas pockets. The Montague park was built over the site of a former city dump and may never be reopened. One of our coaches told me that there were not enough entries in the gold bracket, so they combined the two brackets You are right about the GA teams. The TN teams that I saw (and that wasn't many) played like they were on the field together for the first time, which was what was indeed happening. Many of our girls were in TN state tourney in MS one week before. Good luck to all for the summer.
  2. When you said "team" effort, you were NOT kidding! DHs, pinch runners, position players, pitchers, the girls on "the bench" cheering them on, ALL contributed in a TEAM victory for Soddy Daisy. PS: we had a pretty good cheering section, too! Thanks to our guys and the Baylor Champs that stopped by after their win to help cheer us on. and parents, too. Thanks! and Congrats to all. And Congrats to Cumberland Co. who had a great year and were worthy opponents!
  3. Where does Coack Kirk get all his pitching knowledge, well let's just say he has been doing this for more years than most of us are old, present company not quite included, and during that time he has seen a lot of great pitchers come through his program. The truth of the matter is that by the time these gals get to the high school level, they are already accomplished pitchers and he mostly coaches and refines. Take my daughter for example, she has been pitching since she was 9, she started by taking lessons from Jill Seltzer, later on she took from Lamar Lasley but probably her greatest improvement came from a weekend with Ernie Parker, she also received some lessons from Beth Keylon. But the real accolades go to the ladies themselves, once the proper mechanics are learned, its pretty much a matter of dedication and lots and lots of time in the backyard working on refining their skills. If you don't believe it just stand in the box against a kid who can take your buttons off of your shirt from 40 ft. with a 60mph or faster screwball.

    New Champion

I couldn't have said it better myself!
  5. Having sustained an injury like she did, I bet if you ask her, she'll say just getting to play post-season is her award. Best of luck!
  6. I am so sorry to hear how badly the young lady from Cumberland Co is hurt. Everyone was very concerned when that foul ball hit her in the face. I figured that she had a broken nose at the very least. A broken cheekbone is an even worse injury, I've heard. There was a batter that was hit by a pitch. but this injury was caused by a foul ball to the face. Good luck to the ladies from Cumberland Co. And my prayers are with Linsey Brown.
  7. Hamilton Co schools are closed on Fri., but I've just been told that 6AAA is on for Fri. at Van Zant field at Warner Park. Soddy takes on the winner of Brainerd and Ooltewah at 1 o'clock. Don't know any more details. Where's the Weasel when you need him???
  8. the Southern conferece (UTC) tournament is supposed ot have started at Frost stadium on Thurs. morn. They would also be using Hargraves field I believe in that tourney. 6AAA was to be played at Van Zant field at Warner Park, unless it has been moved due to rain. I'll hear for sure later today though I'm sure someone already knows, I just don't. I don't know of any other tourney there, but I'm no authority.
  9. Let me add to the confusuin. I thought Red Bank was #2. I'm almost positive that Ooltewah is #4.
  10. indian, sounds like you have tried to be unbiased as possible, but I think you have accidently penalized Rachael Harris for playing on the same team as Ashley Frizzell. The last Chatt paper stats were not up to date, and you'd be hard-pressed to figure out whose stats were whose if I gave you my unofficial numbers. Ashley has earned every accolade she has recieved, but Rachael has worked hard too. People don't seem to recognize that two excellent pitchers CAN play for the same team. In the mid 90's, Maddux, Smoltz and Glavine all played for the Atlanta Braves. ALL Cy Young award winners. I think Soddy has much the same situation with Ashley and Rachael. Just different styles.
  11. I just want to congratulate the Lady Trojans of Soddy Daisy for their second place finish in the Bob Jones tourney in Huntsville this last weekend. Outstanding pitching from Frizzell and Harris against some of the top teams in AL, timely hitting and good solid defense in most of the games got them there. Kaci Cooper was named Most Valuable Defensive Player for the tournament. Ladies, I'm proud of you! [Edited by skndvr80 on 4-14-03 7:36P]
  12. Hixson is approx. 15 min. drive from Soddy Lake. East Ridge is approx. 40 min. drive and that is not including the road construction on HWY 153 that you would have to drive through. It probably would not delay you, but the lanes get narrow and the drivers go too fast. Downtown Chattanooga is approx. 35 min away.
  13. There is a Hampton Inn and a Holiday Inn Express in Hixson that would be closest to Soddy. Both have 1-800 numbers.1 800 426 7866 and 1 800 465 4329. I got these out of the Chatt. phone book.
  14. correction,,,Soddy was NOT winless in the Worth tourney. They won ALL their pool games {Hendersonville, Clay Chalkville, St Benedict} and their first elimination game {Coffee Co.} Their loss was to the current AL state champs in their second elimination round game. What great competition in a GREAT tourney. Thanks Manchester and Coffee Co.!
  15. strike three is right about many of the teams catching up with Chatt. And homecooking is a local disease that everyone experiences. I heard that accusation made at a Chatt. summer tourney once, in a game I was just observing, and I told the Mom who said it that the umps that were on the field were bad ALL the time, it didn't matter who you were or where you were from. But you are wrong about the umpire being a "little problem." The homeplate ump entirely controls the game and can change the entire outcome of a game. If you don't believe me, ask the fans and girls of Coffee Co. who got cheated by an umpire from Middle Tn at state tourney in 2000. Even I, a Soddy Daisy fan, was outraged.
  16. I went to Pisgah tonite expecting to see an exciting matchup, whoever Coach Kirk put on the mound. After all, these are 3 of the best pitchers in Tn and AL. I was disapointed when the homeplate ump decided to take all finesse out of the game. Belt high, down the middle, or it was called a ball. Close calls on the basepath seemed to go to the home team. This was not a true test of these 2 teams. I look forward to seeing these teams meet again on a neutral field with better umps! Currie,Harris, and Frizzell were all shortchanged tonite by no strike zone
  17. They lost to Centennial in elimination round and to White House is pool play.
  18. I'm sorry. I thought that you said if dannielle was pitching that goodpasture would have won. what does dannielle pitching have to do with goodpasture hitting Harris?? lol One thing for sure, if the two of them had faced each other , it should have been a very exciting and close game with the quality teams they have behind them. Oh! wait a minute, It already was a close and exciting game. And the girl that did pitch was't exactly chopped liver. lol

    Soddy Daisy

The Lady Trojans, behind the 1 hit pitching of Rachael Harris, defeated the Ooltewah Owls at Soddy Lake Thursday. The Trojans struck for 3 runs in the first inning staking Harris to all she needed to secure her 5th win of the season against no defeats. The Lady Trojans are now 10-0 for the season. Harris had 9 K's and no walks in the win. Alisha Johnson and Leslie Vess both went 2 for 3. Johnson had a double, scored twice, and had 1 RBI.
  20. ezell, you make one other minor misccalculation. Harris was on the mound for soddy. as referenced by bcll, she is indeed on a mission, and in my book, is underrated by many.

    Soddy Daisy

3/20/03 Soddy 1 Red Bank 0 Rachael Harris 2 hitter, both hits came off her knuckle ball. Agressive running in bottom of 7th caused errant throw that won the game for Soddy.
  22. I am a parent of a pitcher and a lot of focus during the game is on the pitcher but it takes 9 players to play the game and those 9 players share in the win or loss. On the other hand, it is usually the pitcher who is remembered by most of the fans, did she pich well or was it a bad outing? Pitchers probablly do deserve more of the accolades as they usually work on their game year round (if they are dedicated), from what I have seen most other players usually participate in other sports or take time out to enjoy other pursuits. So do pitchers get all the credit, No. Do they deserve more of the credit, yes because in most cases, they have earned it!
  23. sdfan30 thanks for the kind remarks, whoever you are, from Rachael's mom and dad
