  1. backinthaoc...I assume you will be at this game Friday. If so, would you please shoot an email to johna@ontheballmag.com?
  2. Even without Johnsey, Liberty hung with a pretty good Humboldt team. I wouldn't be writing them off just yet.
  3. I didn't forget TCA's 2003 team. I saw them play a couple of times. They did go far in the playoffs, but I do not think they were better than this year's Lion team. Remember they caught USJ in a down year when they beat them in the 2nd round and got handled by Fayette in the quarters. We don't normally offer subscriptions, but I'm sure something can be worked out. Send an email with your name/address to info@ontheballmag.com.
  4. Agreed, VG. I believe this could be TCA's best team ever.
  5. We're looking at a lot of different areas right now.
  6. Is the Sun correct that Grady carried the ball 32 times last night for OC? Speaking of workhorses...
  7. Tough break for OC, though, in losing Fulbright for the year.
  8. I'll pick Crockett to win, but I agree with backinthaoc that it will NOT be a massacre. OC is a dang good team.
  9. Yep, every week throughout football season, plus other web exclusives sprinkled in.
  10. For those of you who read On The Ball Magazine in West TN, we now have new content available on our Web site for football season. You can link directly at: http://www.ontheballmag.com/westtn/exclusives.html Keep an eye on our Web site, as we will be debuting a brand new look in the next couple of weeks.
  11. Oh man, a thread about On The Ball and we get a link to the Tennessean. Punch us right in the stomach, why don't ya? On The Ball Web Site -- brand new design coming by the month's end, too.
  12. I wouldn't be too sure about that last statement. I like Obion Central in a close one. More experience across the field, and they've got the size to hang with the big Dresden boys.
  13. I talked to Coach Craig about this. He did have some players quit to concentrate on baseball, but it wasn't anyone who played that much.
  14. What you're looking for can be found in On The Ball Magazine's HS Football Preview. It's a new free HS sports magazine debuting in the Midstate after a successful year in West TN (sans Shelby County). You can find it at any Kroger in the Midstate as well as many Wal-Marts, Publix, and Food Lions.
  15. No doubt, there's a difference in putting together a daily and a monthly. That's part of the reason we are able to go into much greater depth and detail on our football preview. The point I was trying to make is, if you know you're going to have to put together a football tab, what's stopping you from getting the ball rolling on it in June? We really had only 3 weeks where we dedicated 100% of our time to the football preview due to work on other issues, but we were making contact with coaches and gathering information before that. Byhalia is a difficult comparison as it's not in-state and they probably don't give a crap whether or not a TN paper has any information on them. I would certainly assume, however, that every coach in WTN would care enough to be included. That's not to say they are easy to get in touch with, because I know from experience that's not always the case. Unfortunately, we did not have a flexible deadline. The TNean does our printing, and we have to fit into their schedule, not the other way around. I wish it were the other way around, it would make life a little easier.
  16. Here are my "sleeper" teams in each classification. 1A: Trinity Christian 2A: Humboldt (though I think everyone expects them to be better) 3A: Obion Central 4A: North Side
  17. The Middle TN debut issue comes out today, as a matter of fact. It will be available at every Kroger in the Midstate area, as well as many Wal-Marts, Publix, and Food Lions. It's a very well-done issue. I think HS football fans in the Midstate will be shocked at its detail and its quality.
  18. I think that's because they wrote (or will write) more detailed articles on each of those teams as part of their Dandy Dozen countdown.
  19. I'll disagree with this to an extent. We have full-page previews on all 44 WTN teams. We visited every school and sat down with every coach from every program. Sometimes we did have to call multiple times before we got them, but for an issue (or tab as the case may be) as popular as the football preview, you've got to do what it takes.
  20. Thanks for the compliments on our coverage, backinthaoc. I'm glad that someone as close to the Rebel program as you are felt that our preview article was well done. Coach Bowling was very gracious in giving me information during our visit. And that fieldhouse and practice facility...VERY nice. I picked them to finish 4th in the region, but I could see them finishing as high as 2nd if everything goes well. It doesn't take long after talking with Bowling to realize this guy knows his stuff. That region is just so loaded top to bottom, it's ridiculous. Obion Central is definitely my "sleeper" team in 3A, and Bowling is without a doubt one of the most underrated coaches in WTN. I expect that the Rebels will end up surprising a lot of people this year.
  21. Here is On The Ball Magazine's Region 6-3A Preview. We also have full page articles on all 44 West Tennessee football teams in our annual HS Football Preview, available at our usual distribution spots.
  22. I don't know that, but if you look at any Metro area Kroger on Thursday, you'll find a new free HS Football Preview that is well worth picking up.
