  1. I have no idea how Vanderbilt can turn around their football program except for lowering academic standards for athletes. They need a coach who is committed to spending 10+ years shaping a brand new program. Right now I am not convinced at all that Bobby Johnson is that man. Thought?
  2. Referees are what make the game human. They make mistakes just like any football player misses an assignment, drops a pass, or misses a tackle. I do think we should hold them to very high standards so that they are always focusing and making sure the right calls are made. This is high school football and we can't expect the referees to be perfect. Moreover, referees don't dictate the outcome of the game, only the players on the field do that.
  3. I don't think there is anyway the leadership over at BA will ask Coach Flatt to step down from coaching. I think it's his job until he's finished coaching. His accomplishment is very impressive and I congratulate him for that. I'm not going to give my complete opinion on his program but if anyone wants to know then PM me. Instead of being critical of him as I normally am, now is a time to offer congratulations to him, his family, his fellow coaches, and the entire BA family. They have a storied program and will be a force in Tennessee football for many years to come.
  4. I'd like to know the strengths of MUS's team this year. They are always strong throwing the ball but I'd put MBA's defensive schemes up against any offensive scheme except for maybe the Oklahoma Sooners. This will definately be an excellent match-up. Just like every game, I think that the team that can control the game up front, run the ball effectively, and get some pressure on the opposing team's QB will win this game. Memphis referees are always a little generous on the hometown teams so MBA can't afford to make any dumb mistakes. Should be a heck of a game. I'll take MBA by a furlong.
  5. FRW-i've always been one to compliment other schools...most notably those in DII-AAA. By the way, I hope it makes you feel better to cut me down. Maybe if you took the time to ask me my take on some other teams. I'm sorry I happen to have a lot of pride for my alma mater who has not by chance been a competitor for State Champion year in and year out. And since I don't like someone judging me when they don't take the time to know me here goes: CBHS-always has a big strong line, O and D, McCallie- the best disciplined and one of the best coached teams in DII-AAA, they always play 4 quarters and are class acts on the field, MUS- another well disciplined team who never seems to have problems throwing the football, Baylor- play their best games when it counts, amazing athletes every year, BA- incredibly competitive but never dirty, always one of the top teams in the division, have been winning for forever, Ryan- set an example to the entire Nashville community by teaming up with MBA to move a football game because it was on a Jewish Holiday. So yes I have positive things to say about other schools. Now please don't personally attack me again.
  6. redtwin speaks for me about the dream mba schedule. i love the idea of playing riverdale first. i'd like to see another MBA/DB series, or what about MBA vs. Maryville. Some of these 4A, 5A schools need to step up and start some brutal series. No team should have to go out of state for a good game. Although having alumni charter a jet to Florida every couple of years is pretty cool. Why not take it overseas and play some of the Japanese teams? We'd pretty much be celebtrities.
  7. that would be absolutely amazing. i'm lickin my lips just thinking about it.
  8. theodore roosevelt- 26th president of the United States. it's on my desk.
  9. thats part of the job description. a real lineman embraces that role. get used to it.
  10. From redtwin:"I wore gloves as an o-lineman, but only so I could hold better." this couldnt be put any better. to put in my two cents, i happen to think that "spat", especially socks pulled over the shoes, is completely wrong and should be outlawed. if ohio high school basketball can make lebron james cover up his tattoos, then young men ages 15-19 don't need to wear unneeded articles of clothing.
  11. I still cannot believe a coach would pull his team off of the field before the game was over. That is just way beyond me. I do place some blame of the ref, but the coach is setting a horrible example for his team. If I were a player on that team I would have been infuriated.
  12. I refuse to believe this. What kind of example is a coach making by keeping his team from finishing a game. That's just straight up quitterish.
  13. i agree with the "get back" coach. a good high school, college, or professional team must have a staple of these coaches. at least 4 or 5 deep in case of injury. however the hardest position on the field is definately field goal snapper. not only is it his job to remind the defense that they just gave up a touchdown, but he also has to grab as many facemasks as possible in a short amount of time. the most fun position on the field is the peel back blocker on the kickoff and punt return.
  14. oops i didnt know there was already a topic- my fault. well i still think there is something fishy going on here.
  15. i was wondering if anyone could tell me what really happened in the bga/bishop byrne game. i mean come on, no team just walks off the field.

that's a good one. how long did it take you to think of it?
  17. I would like to hear what redtwin has to say about the game. from my standpoint, i was confident the vols would go up to athens and show them what's up. i'm really proud of our players, especially eric ainge, gerald riggs, and omar gaither who had a heck of a game on defense. our destiny in the sec east is ours to win or lose.
  18. there's no reason to not shell out $12 for an entire year, year, year to be connected to fellow fans across the state in our collective love for sports. amen coacht.
  19. this might be the greatest thread ever. i havent stopped laughing. my personal favorite is the one about the mall and the mp3 player. please keep them coming.
  20. part of the athletic budget went to misting fans for coach rankins golf cart/atv
  21. i still say that if BA doesnt take home a gold ball this year, that Carlton Flatt, the winningest coach in TN history hang up his whistle and enjoy being athletic director. thoughts?
  22. "historically known"? As in Washington, Lincoln and Riverdale? Wow, I had no idea of the tradition going back so far. " this made me laugh very hard
  23. easy there redtwin. i will definately have a message ready to send with my hand on the mouse when the clock winds down with the big orange claiming victory over your bulldogs. that said, i really need my heart to be mended after that embarassing game last weekend. it's tough to lose a big one at home and play a bigger one on the road. very true about simon. the secondary needs to step it up big time. i am happy ainge had a taste of what a real game is like so he can be ready to be rattled a little on saturday. i'd take the vols and give you your 17 points and if i win take it out on regan and harper. if you win i'll think about sayin who represented big number 59 better.
