  1. My thoughts on tonight's game: 1) This game featured 2 of the best defensive front 7s in East Tennessee, they dominated the game. 2) Ooltewah's Jordan Patty is playing like he did as a sophomore (13 tackles tonight, 28 in 2 games), and that is a VERY good thing. His hit on Oggs in the first quarter changed the game and hurt his effectiveness. He wasn't the same the rest of the night (AE's PAT was a prime example). 3) Brady Reed is not forcing the issue. He's protecting the ball and letting things come to him. That is a good sign. He had a couple of key runs in the game to keep drives alive, including the Owls' TD drive). 4) The Ooltewah OL was hurting some with the starting LT out with a broken thumb (Combs, I believe. He did have surgery on it today) which hurt the blocking scheme. But they HAVE to improve. 5) Austin-East did shoot themselves in the foot quite a bit. They did have 8 penalties which all were either an illegal procedure or 12 men in the huddle. Going 1-for-4 in the red zone with once being a turnover on downs and the other 2 being interceptions is not going to help your cause. 6) It was Week 1 people. 7) Both teams have excellent speed and that negated each other. 8) Both teams will continue to get better on O, but both teams' D will keep them in games. 9) John Long was inconsistent with his punting, but kickoffs were excellent again. 10) Austin-East - two words - Pickle juice That's it for now, time to move on. Ooltewah gets preped for Soddy-Daisy and Austin East gets ready for Fulton. Big rivalry games for both, and good luck to the Roadrunners the rest of the way, hope to see you in Cookeville.
  2. The Ooltewah football family sends its prayers to both Sullivan South, West and the Logue family, and will honor Jake's memory with a moment of silence before the start of tonight's game with Austin-East.
  3. The fish sandwich isn't bad, but the last time I had one was when Tyner played Goodpasture in the playoffs when Patrick Turner was a senior. (One of the best players I have ever seen play in person, had over 200 yards receiving that night)
  4. seriously, who is that, 2seam? I've never heard of him and I have been around for a while. Is he from the middle school?
  5. So where does that put me, Mr. Smart Guy. I have been doing this for a long time and as long as the coaching staff and administration will continue to put up with me, I will be around. I'm not that hard to find on Friday nights....
  6. Yes, I am sure (especially last year). Between the coaches grading the film and what I took at the game, that's what we had (we had the same).
  7. Jacquez Smith vs. Maplewood 2008 - 5 total stops, 1 pass breakup (4 solo, 1 assist) Maplewood held to 96 total yards of offense on 39 plays run. 2007 - 5 total stops, 1 forced fumble, 1 fumble recovery (4/1 again) Maplewood ran 34 offensive plays.
  8. Rhea Co.'s picks are the same as mine. Both Ooltewah and Rhea have 27 seniors, but I have heard that P.J. may not be back at Soddy? Can anyone confirm or deny that rumor?
  9. I haven't played with Legos in over 30 years, it's an avatar that I found on here when I signed up years ago.
  10. Ooltewah will go as far as Brady Reed's are and mind will carry them in 2009. They will have to find a RB to replace Matthew Polk and fill some holes on the OL. Defense will be strong again, but the biggest holes there are replacing Que Jackson and both starting CB's (Tracy Hunter will fill one of those spots, Goose Manning maybe the other or play S) Just my early opinion,
  11. I thought Farragut was 6A now? I thought the first post asked about 5A. I could be wrong. But if 6A is included, still have to consider Ooltewah with Jacquez Smith returning for his senior season. They ended up being the 5A rep in the Semis from East Tennessee.
  12. Well, I'll bring up another name. I don't know if he has applied , but definitely has Cleveland ties. That is Doug Greene, who played under Coach Monroe, coaches with him now as DC at Ooltewah. and his father was the long-time principal at CHS. Just another name added to the conversation.
  13. Chattanooga Central played Walker Valley tonight instead of Saturday. Walker Valley won the game by 5, but no score was listed on Chattanoogan.com . The TSSAA allowed both the boys' and girls game to be played on the same night because both games involved the same teams at the same location.
  14. I know that East Ridge girls basketball hasn't been the same since Coach Neely retired from coaching basketball. I've noticed that not as many volleyball players have played basketball since she has been coaching volleyball only.
  15. Chattanooga area officiating has been in decline for the last 10 years in not just football and basketball, but in all sports, IMO. There is a serious lack of new blood coming into officiating over that time, which isn't helping either.
  16. Nope, Clark had already commited to South Carolina while he was at Riverside Military Academy in Georgia as a junior. I believe I am still correct. Nice try
  17. Thanks for the compliment, fsunoles. He's a good kid, good student, and somebody that deserves good things to happen to. I know that Will Jackson and Coach Courtney turned Georgia Tech on to Jacquez and made a late run for him. Very classy on their part and yery appreciated by Jacquez. Good luck to Farragut this coming season.
  18. Ooltewah's Jacquez Smith was named a Junior All-American by EA Sports on Monday. He was also named a Second Team all grades All-American by the same site as these sophomores were named to. Also was announced as a 2009 Under Armour All-American game invitee.
  19. This is the biggest day in the history of the Ooltewah football program with Sammy Seamster (MTSU) being the Owls' first FBS (1-A) signee and Jacquez being the first SEC commitment. Good day to be an Owl.
  20. Tyner is technically considered a magnet school, so their students would probably go back to their zoned school or to another magnet school (like Arts & Sciences or Chattanooga School for the Performing Arts, neither has football mind you)
  21. Yes, there is a mercy rule. When one team is up 35 points in the fourth quarter, the clock runs continiously (sp.) with it stopping only for free throws and time outs.
  22. bbz. It DID happen. Talk to the people in the office at Ooltewah and they will tell you that it happened. I know this thread is to talk about Owl football, but this happened and should be discussed. And IMO, you are wrong about this. If you want to talk to me about this, come see me at a basketball game. I'm not hard at all to find. I'll start wearing my hat I wore during football season to basketball games (just don't try to talk to me during the game, I'm usually busy)
  23. Congrats Livingston Academy on the tournament win, the 3rd quarter was the difference
