  1. LaVergne beat BA 2-1 (26-28) 25-19 15-10 Beat Centennial 3-0 25-23 25-19 15-8 Lost to Ravenwood 2-1 25-22 15-25 16-14 Beat Lipscomb 3-0 25-20 25-18 15-8 LaVergne's JV was also 4-0 Lots of good play by many teams. Didn't see a weak team there.
  2. You heard it here first....Terry Odle's new assistant coach will be none other than Randy Harrell. It will be made official later this week or early next week.
  3. I'll do what I can to post matches. LaVergne will be without a couple of starters so I hope we can at least make a good showing.
  4. In Talking to as many college coaches as I do, they all tell me emphatically that it better for a player to play both club and high school because of the reps that they get with both. They realize that this is a sport where development comes with "ball touches" and the more they have the better off they are. They Univ. of Kentucky coaches (and others for that matter) go so far as to track the amount of touches each player gets in practice each day. Players will average over 500 touches in a single practice. They do like to see players with upside, but they definately like players to have well developed skills....especially if they are recruiting someone to come in and make an instant impact.
  5. In terms of reporting game scores, I really like the way Kentucky does things. On the KHSAA main page, you can go to the Volleyball page (http://www.khsaa.org/volleyball/ ) and then access all sort of information regarding the sport. I really like how you can look back at season information regarding these teams, and how the fared. ( http://scoreboard.12dt.com/scoreboard/khsaa/kyvb5 ) You can change the date and be able to see whatever matches were played that day, or just view a particular team's schedule and how they have fared. I'm pretty sure in talking with the Presentation coaches last year, that they had to call in their scores each night. Tennessee could easily do something like this as Kentucky is just as rural in some areas. One interesting thing to look at to me is the schedule for Assumption. They only lost two GAMES in matches all season long and both of those were to Mira Costa, California. Now that is dominance. http://scoreboard.12dt.com/scoreboard/khsa...mp;action_name=
  6. Terry Odle returns to lead the Big Red as Head Baseball Coach. On a side note, Adam Patterson, brother of former Lexington Head Coach Jason Patterson, is the new head coach at Scotts Hill HS.
  7. My sources tell me it will be Terry Odle.
  8. Kydigs..can you contact me at davisb@rcs.k12.tn.us . I need to ask you a few questions about some kentucky teams.
  9. According to a source very close to the program, the Principal is being very tight-lipped about who he will hire. Also, he didn't know a time-table as to when this will be done either.
  10. Nate also was an assistant coach at LaVergne HS in 2004 under Steve Williams. Nate played for Coach Williams at Hillsboro.

    School Tryouts

I have always been told that you could have tryouts after school is out in the summer. A lot of schools have tryouts as soon as school is out in May or June so that they can have the summer for fundraising, conditioning, summer leagues, and etc.
  12. I'm not defensive, but I do want to set you straight about a few things regarding Lexington baseball. Explain to me just exactly how much money LHS baseball gets from LHS basketball? Better yet, explain exactly how much any sport gets from any other sport at LHS. You see, I worked at the school for 7 years, coached there, and so I know how the athletic department works there. Each sport is self-sufficient, meaning that what ever you raise, your sport gets. If basketball has a fundraiser and makes $10,000, it gets to keep all $10,000 for basketball and shares none of it with baseball. How long have you lived in Lexington? Do you know anything about the history of the town? Do you know how cyclical the town's sports programs have been? Do you know that over the years, the one steady program at LHS has been the baseball program? Getting to the state tournament is a big deal in any sport. It is what you work all season for. Every single team has that as their ultimate goal, with some being more realistic than others. Why don't more D1 colleges come? Most are in their conference tournaments at the same time. IF they weren't they'd be somewhere scouting you can bet on that. Comparing schedules, both are equally tough. But if you really want your son to play that "tougher" schedule, call the admissions office at USJ, call your realtor and sell your Lexington house, move to Jackson, enroll at USJ, and have a blast. Also, if you really wanted to play USJ so much, you should have told your son to not get that bunt down against Harpeth in the Region Finals. Lexington could have lost, played and beaten David Lipscomb in the Sectional, and then matched up with USJ in the 1st round of the state. Say what you want about Coach Patterson, run him down all you want. But I will bet you this.....He will defend your son until the day the Lord comes for him.
  13. Making the State Tournament in baseball not a big hurdle? Surely you jest.... If it weren't a hard task, then why in the world, with all the great baseball talent that Lexington has had over the years, did Lexington never make it to a State Tourney before Patterson? Region 6 has one of the toughest roads to the State Tournament of anyone in the state. IF you get out of the district, you get to play an always tough team from District 11, and if you get to SubState, then there stands David Lipscomb or Marshall County. Don't tell me that is easy. I understand you may like basketball better, to each his own. But don't say that....you obviously don't know. I'd like to see Shane coaching in Lexington...he obviously has the knowledge, and he and I are friends. I could see him succeeding. I don't know about storied, as there is more to coaching a team than knowledge of the game. But I do agree that their teams would be fun to watch, Just as JP's teams were. I don't know what Coach Gardner has done to you, maybe not play your kid. He has done a good job and will continue to. This is from someone who doesn't follow hs basketball that much. I'm an outsider looking in, but I do know good coaching when I see it, and he has put more attention into that program than anyone else has in years. I was there the years when winning 5 games in Boys BB was a good thing. Lexington has some talent, but good grief not even close to that of Bolivar or Liberty this year, or etc. Sure they were better than Camden and Riverside, and that showed on the court. Sometimes expectations that a team will be good can lead to problems for a coach. Lexington had a bunch of decent Basketball players this year, but most of the Lexington's guys couldn't even make the team at Bolivar or Liberty. This thread isn't about Lexington Basketball. Let's stick to the topic of Lexington baseball.
  14. You obviously misinformed about the baseball program. Let's look at their non-district schedule. Other than the district games (since you have no control over that) there's Ravenwood ( AAA State arguably the most talented team they faced all year), Oakland (one of the most storied programs in the Mid State), Siegel (led by a great coach and was a region particpant last season), Bradley Central (Greg Geren, former UT Vol coaches them...they always have a say in who goes to the State in East TN), Smryna (In this game, they Faced Sonny Gray, arguably the best Sophomore in the state, hits legit 90's), Muscle Shoals, AL (a VERY good program in N. Bama), McKenzie (class a champions, enough said), Huntingdon (Class A State), LaVergne (AAA, finished 4th in one the toughest districts in the state), Hardin Co. (tremendous tradition and nearly won 13 AAA). JCM was down this year, but they did have on good pitcher, and Lexington faced him. TCA and Madison he didn't schedule these teams, as they were part of the Sports Plus. Look back at the 2005 schedule. Farragut, John Overton, Goodpasture, etc. Not weak. Lexington didn't hit at the right time, but I still feel that after seeing Covington play, that Lexington was as good, it just did show that week. And Covington was obviously better than USJ about 4 or 5 straight wins proved that. Lexington faced USJ in the preseason and beat them soundly with Gant on the mound while playing without Keck. If you know anything about Jason, he is going to play the best players no matter who they are. To me, this is the only way to be as a coach. He was never disloyal to any of his players, but pushed all of them to be the best. Making everyone accountable for their spot makes the whole team a better. I was there with Terry, and he is a friend of mine. We never played Germantown ( we did when Derek Bartholomew was), but we did play Houston at North Side a time or two. The 2002 team may have been coached by TO at one time, but make no mistake, that team was JP's. They would run through brick walls for JP. I have no real idea who will be the head coach, that call will be left up to the Principal, unless he gets imput from someone else. I think it will be a very important hire for the future of the program, and the right person will really thrive with all the talent coming in the next few years. I feel like Lexington has a couple more title runs in it coming pretty soon. Especially if those players all don't mysteriously transfer to any private schools. I have no inside information on Coach Gardner, but Lexington would be a fool to run him off. He has created a buzz about Lexington Men's basketball that hasn't been there since the 70's. Personally, I like the man and he has done a good job with playing in the toughest region in the state.
  15. Congrats to Covington!
  16. This is the problem here. As much pride as the community takes in its baseball program, from T-ball on up through little league and Babe Ruth to High School, why don't they build a nice complex for their highest level? It would be an investment in the community. I could argue that baseball is the best thing going in Lexington, with all the success of not only the high school program, but Babe Ruth, on down. The Little League program is one the best in the state. A nice field would only make sense to me. But I also am from Henderson County and I know what you are dealing with there on that county commission. I'll say this, for as much as I love Lexington, it sure is nice living in an area that has progressive thinkers in leadership positions.
  17. I'm pretty sure you need to contact Chuck Patton at 731-968-2961 or call the Henderson County Board of Education. Who are you? Email me at davisb@rcs.k12.tn.us
  18. I knew about the complex deal, but that was a rumor when I was still there and that was 3 years ago. The field issue will be a big one if they want to bring in a coach with a good name. I never understood why that field that was turned into a soccer field wasn't utilized more. With a little work, moving the fences back, press box, and etc, that could have been a great place to play and watch a ball game. Much nicer than what they have now. Its not fair to either progam to have to share field time. All those kids want to be out there or they wouldn't have signed up. I hope that whoever they get, will advance the program, as I still love Lexington and try to be there as much as I can. I loved being with them this week in Murfreesboro. I only wish they would have played a little better. But they had a nice run and a great season!
  19. I agree, you are off base about why Coach Patterson left. I think with all things being equal, he would have stayed at Lexington and coached till he retired. He loved coaching there the kids. This was a BIG decision for him, I can promise you that. You don't see many grown men with tears in their eyes about situations like this. The parents didn't run him off, he just couldn't turn down this offer, from a lot of angles. If he had to leave, I'm glad he is coming to Middle TN so now we can hang out.
  20. Inspector Vol... I wasn't implying you, but everyone. I have heard that a lot. A lot of people speculated about it, but no one knew it was true. I have heard a few names, but i won't devulge anything. It's hard to keep good coaches, when you can go down the road and make so much more money doing the same thing. Not having your own field weighs in that, too, as there seems to be some jealousy with the local league. I feel like Lexington needs to up the supplement, and do some things to keep a good coach there. I honestly think that if they want someone that will stay for a while, they need to get a man with a family and then let them put down roots there, or someone with ties to the area.
  21. I think the Sun was right on to report the issues. No one likes to have bad press about them, but of course love to see their name in the paper for doing something good. I've been misquoted in that paper more and once and have been taken out context a time or two, but at least they are trying to get a story out there for you to read. If you don't like what they print, you don't have to read it. When I go home to visit my parents, I pick it up to read the sports because I care about what is going on in West TN and they are pretty much the only source for that for me. I could really care less about the rest of the paper unless something big time goes down there. Dan Morris did a great job as the sports editor and he was always fair with me in reporting when my teams won and lost. Dan was very cordial to me, and I consider him a friend. I may not have always agreed with his take on the game, but it was as he saw it and I respect that. I went to college with John Denton. John, I think, was one of the greatest things to ever happened to the Sun. They were incredibly worse off when John left the paper. I have never met Mr. Parrott, but he seems to be trying to get the stories out there. You can't be there all the time, and they could definately do a better job of covering all the sports other than football and basketball better. He is reporting the news, and the stories about Liles and USJ are just that. If this were about Johnathan Keck, or Drew Hayes, it would be all the same, news.
  22. I'm very proud of the job that my friend Jason Patterson has done as head coach at Lexington. 5 straight region appearances and two state tournaments with a title in 02 isn't bad at all. Averaged over 30 wins a season. He left on his terms, which something a lot coaches can't say. I don't know if my friend Terry Odle will take the job, but I'm sure there is interest. I am close to this situation so that is all I will say. Whoever takes over the job will inherit a good situation and a lot of talent, both on the team and coming up. For those of you that say you knew this was coming, you don't know what you are talking about. Outside of Jason and his wife, only about 6 or 7 people knew this was going to happen this year and all the specifics. I know there will be some good candidates....but can the Henderson County School System lure them there is the real question.
  23. I like the 4 team tournament better. You should be able to lose a game in the Mid week and still get to play for the title. This would eliminate the teams with only one pitcher.
  24. Question....Where is Sycamore playing right now?
