  1. Especially when the call was made when the lineman hardly had both feet off the line of scrimmage. Biggest travesty I ever saw. The Wang-T works ok when the opposing LB's are slow and don't play position assignment football.
  2. The only thing that will slow Maryville down the next few years is a college AD parking a Wells Fargo Armored truck in GQ's driveway! A private fear I live with! My top 5. #1 Maryville # 2. Henderson # 3. Riverdale #4. Blackmon #5. DB
  3. I didn't know some players parents had homes purchased because they had great players for sons. I feel ripped off. Two of my sons were 2year starters back in 03-05. Are there funds for guys like me who's boys have graduated? I need a new garage door.
  4. That is true but maybe it's also because Maryville's kids are actually more athletic than most other teams players. Or just out play and out work the other teams. Or are as fast or just as big as any other teams students? It really gets old that many just think it's all coaching for the reason for Maryville's Historical Success. Once and a whole ya just gotta give the kids some credit.
  5. Really? What a crock! So you watch a game played out in front of 3-4000 people once a week then the team plays a State Championship in front of 14000 people and broadcast across the state on TV, and Maryville is somehow pulling a fast one?? What a crock.
  6. Riggs was blasted that night. I think he got like 67 yards total but the Rebel D made him pay for every yard and he was no help to his team. One of my son's told me he was soft and went down easy. I don't think he took a snap in the 4th quarter. He came out by himself after his team all pretty, strutting around to show out and it just fired them Rebel's up. Kind like the Semi game when TN High was undefeated and ranked ahead of the rebels and major trash was printed in the Knoxville rag and in the Bristol Paper about how much better TN High was than MHS, bigger, faster and too much talent. The ole' smoking helmet entrance thing occurred and the rebels tore them up for like 42-Zip in the first half. There are a few teams who have come into the Skeeter over the years and got their butts handed to them. Maryville over looks NO ONE but if a team comes in with anything looking like disrespect, it could be a mistake.
  7. Ellis gets the most out of many average linemen for one of many reasons. If people, who understand line player footwork, watch closely you'll find Ellis' troops make the necessary steps to be in position for the block. Many, really most HS teams don't teach footwork fundamentals to their linemen. Most just teach the hole and angle to move the defender. Minimizing your steps with leading with the appropriate foot first and your way ahead. Maryville does that better than most and the lineman have an advantage. Its next level coaching. Ellis is among the best in this area.
  8. Have family in another state. Does anyone know if there is going to be a live stream of the games this year?
  9. I want to chime in just once to point out the obvious. Nobody, I mean nobody with any common sense really cares if bladder runner is impressed or not. Who the heck are you to think you matter bladder runner? None of your silly arguments are valid. Maryville plays a schedule just like any TN high school. The past 16 years are in the books. And I know your visceral hatred and jealousy drive you crazy but MHS is the ONLY HS you can name with that kind of record. It’s the other teams who need to step up and prove something. MHS has nothing to prove to anyone and certainly not to a stick in the mud like you.
  10. Without that terrible call Duh-Haven would have taken home the silver ball. The game was over as the Maryville kid caught the ball wide open. Nobody was near him. An inept official made a terrible call and cost a deserving team of hard working kids a championship. Sure Duh-Haven had a great performance by one RB, but it was not enough. That game forever will be tainted in my opinion. Who cares about basketball here?
  11. This was my first thought. I hope the T$$AA takes this game a serious as GQ & staff will and the knowledge Maryville posters do. Last year these MHS kids got ripped off by an inept officiating crew when the game was so tough it should have not been decided by a penalty.. We know the Rebels are not going to overlook Hendersonville. Those kids have had a great season and want to be 6A champions badly. That has always been another positive of the Maryville Program, respecting every opponent. Hville will be ready for Mville make no mistake about that. Congrats to both teams but what Maryville has accomplished since 1997 Is something a book should be written about.
  12. Agree with that too. Really tired of hearing this team or that has better athletes or more talent BS, year in and year out. A team doesn't make like 16 trips to the state game in 15 years or something like that having so much less. It all just excuses.
  13. That's a good point. Those early penalties really hurt their momentum. That was a good team and did get that fixed. Thanks for bringing out that fact.
  14. Well said 27-21 Maryville and I was not too far off. Thought Blackmon to be a quality team with a smart QB, a tough RB and overall good on both sides of the ball. The best MHS the Rebs have faced but not the best coached or disciplined enought to beat a team like Maryville. The silly penalties killed their early drives and shook their confidence I thought. Solid preformance by Maryville. Not in the leasted out athleted, if that's a word. Blackmon was blessed with fine athletes but had nothing on Maryville. GQ and coaches again out coached the opponent. Field must have been slick as a lot of footing was lost by good runners at various times. I hope the state game has a better crew of officials than this group. To many late wistles can get kids hurt. Speaking of officials if the T$$AA does not send a better crew than those village idiots from last years game where Maryville was clearly ripped off of a state championship by the worst call ever made with the illegal reciever down field where the kid was on the line of scrimmage. That still stings as the kids deserve a quality officiating crew. Just randomly selecting different counties on a rotational basis is wrong. Big games deserve the best officials in the state, not just joe bobs turn. Congrats Maryville. Go home get some sleep and get ready for another championship.
  15. Love this board. I see this as a defensive battle. The team that gains 170 yds on the ground wins, if they don't turn it over. Maryville won't turn it over so BHS better not or it will be costly. Always is as GQ seems to have a way to make teams pay dearly for the mistake. The other big factor is the shear magnitude of playing at the skeeter during Thanksgiving weekend where there will be more former state champions in the crowd for this game than at anyplace in the country. This atmosphere will bring a kind of pressure a great team like Blackmon has never dealt with. If they survive they will be where Maryville is, ready to face the State game. Maryville will win 27-21
  16. I'm always amazed how a group of posters, even a group of ex experienced football players from all levels can determine how focused a group of 16-18 year old players are. Being focused at the HS level in my opinion is based upon the ability, knowledge, charisma and personality of the coaches. Between the average players, the largest group by far on any team is about the same. If the players and their families buy into and support the core of the coaches then all is ready to win. Maryville's main group of coaches Quarles, Ellis and Gaylor are among the best in the country at fundamentals and conditioning. The kids believe in them and trust them as do we bleacher coaches. I've seen HS football in many other states and I never hear people in the Maryville stands rag or disrespect the coaches the way other fans disrespect their coaches. The kids are preparing again on Thanksgiving and that speaks for its self. Blackmon congrats on earning a well deserved trip to the BlackHole. Have a fun week. Maryville will be ready for your challenge.
  17. Great win Rebels. Good luck next year. Maryville has stood in the way of many teams dreams over the years. Great teams. Central, Elizabethton, Morristown, oak ridge Just to name a few over the past 15 years. Now SC. Maryville is a power like few others in Tennessee. Blackmon is next.
  18. Just in the dry. Thought this would be a blowout. maryville is peaking like normal. looks like it could be Blackmond Next week. They are up 9-3 late in the 4th. It's ok to look ahead.
  19. Every team has a chance. That's why they play the games. The best teams limit mistakes, play a full game and give 100% on every snap. The Maryville mentality in business as usual. Like every GQ coached team, MHS has peaked at the right time and all roads to the State Game go through Maryville's front D Seven. The O will score the points you let them if your team has any weakness. MHS will roll over Bradley by 38. No contest.
  20. I been silent for most of the season due to work, family issues, sickness and I hate to say it but boredom. I love MHS Football and the continued historical run GQ and company are on but what happened to the mantra of statements such as "Wait till Maryville moves up to take on the Big Boys". I mean thank goodness for West Tn teams where MHS gets one good game a year. What has happened to the so called big boys? Has Maryville left them in the wake. A few weeks ago in Sevier co. The word was "They beat an un-defeated DB" so this was going to challenge the rebels. I am glad to be winning but the opponents and their fan support is becoming more pathetic by the season. I will always go the Rebel's games, home & away even though my kids have been long removed from the program. Because it's the best football product in the state. My point is look at the talk on this thread, three years ago the Dawg fans were howling with excitement of putting Maryville in their place. I guess just a few of the Moms & Dads and part of Bearden's band will be in the stands for this game. I wish the kids the best.
  21. Da bears sound banged up at LB and if that is true, MHS is going to score some points on the ground. I am glad Da Bears are having a good season and this could be a preview of the playoffs. MHS 31-10
  22. West does have a good ground game with plenty of speed. However speed only helps if the RB gets into the secondary. I have been impressed with MHSs front 7 this year. This group might be the best since the 04-06. That group didn't give too much away in the trenches. I'll have to think on the names of those 7 but this group might be right up there with them. MHS at home is worth 14 GQ is worth another 14 With that said. MHS 32. West 7 before the dogs start sitting down in the 4th QTR.
  23. Wish I could write like that. The KNS Is rag cut and could not survive without AP cuts & paste.
  24. So you seen both play and are expert enough to say Fulton would beat Maryville this year? Well you should get ESPN Hire you so you can pick the Super Bowl winner before the season and the boys in Vegas might want some of your advice too.
