  1. ERA, you evidently did not read all of my second post. In a nutshell I said "I don't think having a degree makes you a good coach but I do feel you need standards. Other people have sacrificed, went to school to be in education to educate and teach and coach. If your in that enviornment I think you should walk the walk. Thats all. Did'nt mean to step on toes.." I totally agree a degree does not mean you can coach. However in an educational environment "High School Sports" I think the HEAD coach should have a degree and be at the school. If you are lucky to have an assistant that is great with no degree and not at the school fine. The are several non faculty coaches with degrees too. Sports are wonderful! I know several kids that have palyed high school ball and have gone on to college to get a degree so they could come back and coach. That's the message you want to send to the players get educated come back and be a great part of something fun and competitive..
  2. Hey I just heard they let Coach Scroggins the girls head basketball coach go. Is that so? Just wondering did'nt the girls have a much better season than the boys? Has the boys coach been let go too? Hey I just heard they let Coach Scroggins the girls head basketball coach go. Is that so? Just wondering did'nt the girls have a much better season than the boys? 3. Well you all have your opinions and I have mine. Like it or not! Yes Terry Floyd is the head coach and Kenny Sadler is the assistant both who are not employed by Coffee County School System in any way except to coach. The special ed teacher is Amy Keele who teaches in the ninth grade wing at the high school. This was never intended to slam parents or volunter coaches. CC had the chance to hire the Shellybville head coach in softball when they hired Terry. She went on to coach at Oakland and do a great job. As for saying you don't care if they have a high school education or not thats pathetic! I think a high school head coach should at the least have a high shcool education and at this level a college education. In high school sports I want my child to be associated with a coach that is a good coach and an educated one. I realize that every situation is different and I know that some programs suffer from a teacher who would rather do anything than coach. That's tough to deal with, this is not a perfect world and was not the case with this hire. HOWEVER, in a high school setting not rec league or summer league I think the school should do everything in their power to hire quality teachers/coaches. So you say softball has more wins than any other sport at CC well I still don't see a state championship for Floyd or Breeden. I think parents and volunteer coaches are invaluable, they make programs great. You need a set of standards when it comes to our kids. I know great coaches that got a degree in education just to coach. They could have been accountants, or lawyers or anything they chose and made a ton of money. But instead they get bashed on coacht, have late nights low pay just so they could coach. Then a guy with some knowlege of a sport no degree has to work his day job in around what should be a priority my kids season is a concern of mine. Say what you guys want that is my opinion. I don't think having a degree makes you a good coach but I do feel you need standards. Other people have sacrificed, went to school to be in education to educate and teach and coach. If your in that enviornment I think you should walk the walk. Thats all. Did'nt mean to step on toes... The good old boy system is alive and well!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  4. Hey, MrNoitAll.. I think you do Know... CC will stay in the hunt. But WILL NEVER WIN BIG!!! It's hard to keep a good handle on the kids when your head coach is not a faculty member. Not that these are bad girls they are not. However I don't care who they are they really need a teacher/coach there in their face everyday to keep them on their toes. Not late to school no slipping grades. You know no excuses. I just think if you are playing a high school TSSAA sports you should have to be a full time teacher. It's almost a slap in the face to the other coahes that went to school got a degree and have dedicated their life to the sport. Not just a everyday Joe off the street that think they can coach.. CC head coach and even assistant coach is not a faculty member in ANY capacity in Coffee County. They do have a second second assistant coach that is a special education teacher. Great person. But really full time jv cheer coach. Not really involved with the softball coaching aspect at all. The softball girls have to wait at least an hour or more a day before the head coach can get off work to come to and work with them. Which makes practice longer than it would if you had a real coach. Maybe Coffee County should re-evaluate the whole thing. I don't think it's fair to the girls...
  5. So what's gonna happen this weekend in Cleveland? Will it be the Bears of Bradley or Raiders of Cleveland that win this one?
  6. Well, if McCallie were not a dominate force there is a big problem. As posted earlier we do have some of the best athletes from across the nation. And do you really think the private school coahes of the "elite eight" are better than a public school coach? (Does sound kinda snobby). I think the public school coach is just as good if not better. Look at what they have to work with. Taking care of the field, weight training, weight room upkeep. Trying to make sure the kids come to school and pass. As well as teaching classes. But above all making athletes out of regular kids. Not to mention the fact that money is always and issue in public and never one in private. I think it would be interesting to see what a good private school coach could do with an average public school team.. Then I would like to have the who's worthy of being a coach in the "elite eight" post discussion....
  7. You can also add Soddy Daisy to the teams he's turned around he took an 0-10 team and in the next couple years they were back to back region champs....Great motivator, great person... You either love him or hate him. But until youv'e walked in a high school coaches shoes folks really should not judge people. It's to bad there is not a web site where we all can bash everyone not just high school coaches and players. Alot of hard work, hours, and emotions go into it. And I for one appreciate all the coaches and players that have to be subjected to this BS from several people that don't know jack. It ruins the coach t boards for people that really just want to talk athletics, not run down coaches and kids... Good luck to both teams. May the best team win this Friday...........................
  8. I admire Ronnie Carter for saying how he really felt. Especially in his position. Baylor does not rule everyone and everyones opinion. They can manipulate some people which is obvious from this incident. However, people with real morals and character shine through. Good luck to Coach Clark and Coach Bibee
  9. I'm just wondering can someone tell me will the new BC coach get the same salary as Allen did? As well as a car I think he was furnished again I'm just wondering. Why would any experienced coach take the job for any less? Of course I know it would depend on experience but still lets face the facts. BC is in a mess. If you thought Allen was worth it why would another experienced coach take it for any less. I for sure would not.... I don't blame Allen for asking for what seemed the impossible the administration and school board could have and should have said no to him at any time. I think it was wrong of him to leave when he got everything he asked for but let's face it maybe he thought at some point they would say no and he could leave. But Allen finally had to be a man and say "sometimes the cost out weighs the benefits". I blame the administration and the school board and the Director of schools for this mess not just Allen if they were stupid enough to hand over the keys to the kingdom. If you ask me they got what they deserved. I just hate it for the kids... Just curious don't kill me for asking.
  10. Bill Prices record at BC was 28-28 the year he arrived they were 0-10. He took the Bears to the 1st Region Championship since 1976 and runner up the next. They beat the eventual state champs (Servierville) They lost 4 games to McCallie state champs and 2 to Red Bank. He also had several 2 sport athletes just to name a few Blake Goodner, Blake Morris, Charlie Goforth , Lee Jackson, Al Morris, Tyler Westmoreland, Tarvis Ogle, Clint Scroggins Nathant Center and Matt Moody. Just to name a few. The problem with the program began with Bob Taylor. Coach Price arrived at BCHS with 2 feeder programs and left with one which was not very good. See how well Coach Allen will do. He probably has already talked about a scholarshhip program for kids who stay with the program for 4 years. See if any of his players at LFO recived any money. They say be careful what you wish for you just might get it. Well you got Allen and in time you'll get whats comming. Since Price has been gone for two years whats your excuse for losing ? Just because he expected football season to be attendend by football players and did not kiss kids butt like AAU basketball, wrestling after a certain date your were to be in football and I don't see a problem with that its called team dedication. Then you even had some basketball players and wrestling players out the last couple years and you still lose. So since Price has been gone for two years whats your excuses for stinking it up so bad? I hope BC is rising because it sure can't get much lower. Every program that Price has been at has done better than when he took it over and that includes your losing again BCHS.
  11. I'm so sick of people crying about bad calls. Do you think the other team has never had a bad call go against them? And yes in some situations it costs them games. It goes both ways. Did you ever stop to think that the boys in blue had a better view of the call than you in the stands? They are not a coach or a player or a parent they are the OFFICAL. I know when CC played against Beech the umps said two of Beeches players did not swing at a pitch and it was appealed and they said no neither girl went, even though Beeches coach told CC coaches he thought they went . So what does it matter stop crying over a bad call it has happened to all of us at one time or another the key is to be a better team and overcome the call and keep on playing. Hey it happends to everybody in every sport it's part of the game. No it's never easy to take but it happens. That's why we need to play our hearts out and make it more than a one run difference. Both teams are well coached and a joy to watch good luck to them both.
  12. Congratulations to Monroe and the Owls it's a fine football program and I'm sure they will thrive. I'm glad there are still some great Coaches such as Tom Weathers, Ron Shumate, and Benny Monroe that can come back and supplement there income in the Hamilton County school system because at the rate the county is going getting a quality coach that needs a primary income may get harder and harder. SergeantOwl it's not worth bantering with you about things you know apparently nothing about. 1st of all Price did not apply for the job at Ooltewah, 2nd of all no one ever said Ooletwah was a losing program and 3rd you are dead wrong about Soddy Daisy's reocrd prior to Coach Price and frankly I don't care who has the most wins there all I know is the record prior to him getting there!
  13. SergeantOwl22, if you consider the fact that SoddyDaisy was 0-10 or 1-9 when Coach Price took it over I don't think Coach Daniels built the Soddy program. That was Coach Price so maybe your to old to remember your facts. If you think that is a great legacy from Coach Daniels your wrong. Price has NEVER taken over a winning program in his life. And he enjoys the challenge of taking over losing programs and rebuilding. Thats the reason he moves around. Not that it is anyones business. And trust me he has no intention of moving back to Hamilton county with the current situation for coaches, teachers or education in general. Why do you think Gatewood left.....

    Bradley Central

Rumor is Coach Allen will get a 4 year contract for $80,000 guaranteed. Win lose or draw. $50,000 from the school system and $30,000 from private donors, gets a car and a job for the Mrs. It's amazing that some coaches couldn't get badly needed equipment at that school not to long ago. BCHS is in the middle of renovations and could not even meet fire codes for the past few years. So what the heck are they thinking? $80,000 for a coach if thats the case what about all the other coaches what makes this one so much better. Oh I forgot the school board and powers that be don't think. At least of the kids.
  15. through97 that's totally not true. If you new anything about Bradley athletics it was not Price that wanted only one sport athletes it was Kent Smith and Steve Logsdon. Kent about died when Kellen played. And it's a well known fact that Logsdon does not promote participation in other sports. Price had several multi atheltes except the last year. But your right it's tough for any sport with almost year round AAU basket ball. Price had Al Morris, Tyler Westmoreland, Blake Morris, just to name a few. At Coffee he has baseball players and basketball players on the team and there doing great. I think Coach Price feels once football season starts it starts no time for AAU and wrestling practice or baseball workouts which I also beleave is fair. I mean when its your season it's your season. And I'm glad you think Railhead is a good man because he stinks as a head coach.
  16. I think Coach Doan is an excellent Coach and I wish him all the very best he coached my daughter in Middle School and improved her beyond words. She has become an excellent player and I credit him with alot of her success. Thank you Coach Doan and best of luck.
  17. Can anyone tell me how the Bradley Central Bearettes did in the Coco Beach tournament they attended during their spring break last week? This was the first time the softball team has gone I think their baseball team has gone for a long time. I wonder how the baseball team did as well.
  18. No doubt, Bradley all the way. With Hare, Pickle, Hammonds, Suiter,Brown and the list goes on.....

    TSSAA Award

O.K. Maybe I am dumb and stupid I was not aware that the selections were made a few weeks back. Timing is everything. Congratulations to Charlie Cogdill.

    TSSAA Award

    * CHS athletic director Charlie Cogdill was selected by the TSSAA to receive an A.F. Bridges Award for Athletic Director of the Year. The award is given for “displaying the high ideals of integrity and ethics and for the examples of citizenship and sportsmanship.” The above article was in the Bradley News Weekley this week (a little newspaper in Cleveland) does anyone else find this funny? One of the only schools in the state all year to have a news making fight at the end of a game, TSSAA imposed fines and suspensions and yet the A.D. gets the above mentioned award. And they wonder why the TSSAA is a joke. We are dumb but please we are not stupid.
  21. 82Cat you must go to Wilson Central they are in all your post on this thread. Wilson Central played hard and deserved to win against Coffee County. Coffee just did'nt play well enough to win that night, it happens so what. All I know is the Red Raiders are going to the playoff for the first time in a long time and I wish them all the luck in the world. Wilson played hard this year no slammin them here. Good luck to them next year. But for now hold on Raiders lets go!
  22. I'm glad to see a post on this once great rivalry. I've not seen anything about this game and here it is Tuesday. I think Cleveland will win because speed kills. After reading Coach Ratledges reaction to last weeks loss in the Cleveland Daily Banner I can't say that I'd blame the bears if they did nothing. He talked about how sickening the game was and how embarrassed he was about the way the boys played. Well what about the way he coached? He needs to take responsibility for his teams performance. I'm sure those boys hated losing just as bad as he did. I don't care how frustrated or how bad a team plays Coach Ratledges comments were way out of line but probably reflective of a first year head coach (still no excuse). If he wants to give the fans a refund after such a poor performance from the bears do you think he would like to give the Bradley County tax payers a refund for his coaching supplement? Sorry but it goes hand in hand.
  23. Just wondering? Does anyone think that the following head coaches set poor sportsmanship examples, or ran the score up? Riverdale 55- CPA 3, Gallatin49-Springfield 6, Brentwood 50 - Oakland 20, Moore Co 49- Eagleville 0, Lincoln Co. 51- Blackman 0? Of course not. I'm sure the players and coaches of the above mentioned schools, as well as the community are gald to have a win. So are the Raiders. Coach Price has been on the flip side of the score before. It's been a long time comming for the Raiders to have a win like that. Good luck to Coach Price, his staff and above all those RED RAIDERS!!!!
