  1. I am not defending what happened, but I think taking the tournament away is taking it a little too far. I was not at the game last night because I was supporting my tigers, but I have been to Anderson County, when they have played Kingston, and the AC fans need to quit acting like they are angels. Their fans are just as bad at home. Sounds like there does need to be more security though. I'd say all this talk on Coacht prior to the game didn't help matters much either. I mean both sides were inviting each other to find them after the game.
  2. O.S. fans cannot say anything about the way the Kingston fans act. Their student section isn't as bad this year, but last year they were guilty of the same acts. I have seen two O.S. students flippning off two elementary school kids before. It is like the pot calling the kettle black.
  3. O.S the 1st seed in in the district with # 2 Lenoir City #3 Rockwood #4 Harriman #5 Greenback #6 Eagleton and # 7 Midway. This tournament is played at Harriman starting Feb 2. I think 1 has a bye, 2 vs 7 ; 3 vs 6; and 4 vs 5.
  4. The Midway football announcer is annoying, I'm not even sure if the midway fans aren't annoyed by him. I'm sure the coaches don't like him, because half the time he announces penalties before the ref even calls them. He's just a little too much.
  5. I''m not sure where you are getting that Kingston has no ball handlers. The Foley kid that plays point has made a big difference in their team. He is a very good pt guard. I think AC will win by about 8-10, but Kingston will get them at home. I think Kingston girls will beat AC girls though.
  6. Well stated Goose. The fact remains that the ENTIRE team walked out, so to treat the other girls poorly would be wrong for they did no differently than the others aside from the fact that their parents made them come back. There are some very good kids that are not playing that are still good kids that made a mistake. I'm sure Coach Allen never wanted this to happen, but he was backed into a corner. Had he let them back. discipline might as well been thrown out the window, but on the flip side the others left too. It is a tough call, one that no one would ever want to make. You can not sit here and say, well I would have done this or that because you were not in his shoes. Its just an awful situation.
  7. I'm not sure anybody will ever know the true story of what happened in that locker room or the night before to cause those girls to commit such a stupid act, but it was wrong for them to walk out. I don't think all of the girls tried to come back, only 2 or 3. I think we need to support the team that we have now, and try to forget this. Yes, something like this has happened before, but I doubt if it will again, since the coaches have finally put their foot down on this type of behavior.
  8. UTM08, I don't really think the players care if people like you are in the stands or not. It is s fans like you that disgust me. These girls need support now, not when they are successful. Besides why would you want to see a team get embarrassed. It amazes me the people who come out of the woodwork when we have a good team, such as 3 years ago when we had the team with Jessica Doughty and Pryor. The stands were packed. Yes, they were fun to watch and everybody likes to support a winning team, but this years team has worked just as hard as the others. Mark it down, they may struggle next year, but when these girls are juniors or maybe even next year, look out. One thing these girls do have is that they are unselfish and play really well together because they have played together so long. The addition of Teddy Chatman will really help, she is a very talented point guard and would have started this year before those girls walked out had she not torn her ACL. I do see depth hurting them, but hopefully they can get a few girls from RMS next year. As for the Harriman game, I don't think our girls wore them out,I think Cordell was pretty nice in subbing early, he usually won't do that you know. This year will be bad, but these girls need to ignore the scoreboard and work on getting better each game.
  9. Sunbright is not in the TMSAA and they do not play in the district tournament.
  10. The post I am talking about is either number 22 or 12. She is a very physical player, dark hair. This district is wide open. It should be an exciting district tourn.
  11. I haven't seen anyone up North yet. How would you compare your teams this year to Huntsville and Norwood last year. Without seeing these teams I would still say O.S. would dominate up there too. I just wish Rwood could have had a rematch last year in the finals with O.S., which is what everyone expected. They probably would have won, but it would have been a good game. I haven't heard anything abot the Pigeon Forge teams, but our districts usually beat them easily.
  12. I didn't say they were better, I said they are as good as last year's team. The Christopher girl that is a 7th grader is a player. They lost the Smith girl, but I think Christopher is better.Barger is also capable of scoring 20 at any time. They just seem to me to play harder than they did last year. Also teams were able to concentrate on Smith and this year they have two players who are very good. Depth will be an issue because they are so aggressive that they tend to get in foul trouble and there is a big difference in the starters and bench (this is true of most teams I have seen).
  13. Rockwood girls are down from last year, but could still make a run at the title. They only have losses to O.S., Kingston, and a close loss to Lenoir City at the beginning of the season. Alcoa is strong again. They have beaten Rockwood by 1 pt the past 2 years in the finals. Lenoir City is about even with Rwood, but are capable of playing for first as well. Midway has not won a game. I 'm not sure about Greenback and Eagleton. This district does not play a conference schedule so it hard to tell who is on top. O.S. is by far the best team. but other than them it is a tossup. I was not saying your district is weaker than Rockwood's just that the Rwood district is not weak.
  14. Once again I think this issue depends on the game. I agree Celtic if the team has been ahead by 20 the entire game and in obviously in control the coach should have subbed long before the last 3 minutes. The type of game I was throwing out there is one that has been close for much of the night and one team has managed to pull ahead. I am just offering possible reasons a coach may have for being reluctant to sub, I do not agree with this philosophy. What about the other question. Who should sub first, the losing team or the winning team? what do you do when the other coach won't sub and your bench is weaker than the opponent's starters? The remark about starters trying to work on skills is ridiculous.
  15. O.S. is now in the Harriman district. This district is far from being weak. Alcoa girls are always good, Greenback is usually tough, Rockwood girls have played in the finals three years in a row and were the the only team to beat O.S. last year , and the Lenoir City girls and Eagleton girls are usually pretty good also. They will still be in the same region. O.S. girls are tough this year and should go undefeated. This year's team is as good as last year's team.
  16. Are these the top two teams in that district? I guess you all are glad O.S. left and went to Rockwood and Harriman's district.
  17. I think you have to look at each game on an individual basis. We all know of coaches and teams who are notorious for running up the score and to them I say your time will come. But I agree that a 20 point lead with 3 min to go is not that comforting. There are teams who may have that lead, but may also have a hard time scoring and if the other team was to go on a run, it is hard for them to make up that many points. I think the entire team should get a chance to play, but those subs also have to be able to hold the lead. What aggravates me as much as coaches who run the score up are those coaches who have trailed by 20 or more the entire game and when the other coach subs, the losing coach decides to leave his starters in and press when they have not pressed all night. I have seen this happen several times. There is a time to throw in the towel. Many coaches of losing teams do not sub either. Many coaches who have been burnt by this are the ones who are wary of subbing early. This brings me to another question. In a game where one team is obviously better and leading by a sizable margin, which team should put the subs in first? The winning team, or losing team. Seems like an easy answer, most of you are thinking the winning team, but many coaches will keep their starters in until the losing coach gives up. Thoughts on this???
  18. I think Harriman is probably favored to win, but Oneida looks good as well. It should come down to these two teams. Wartburg, Sunbright, and Coalfield will be in the mix, although I have not seen Coalfield yet. Rockwood and Oakdale will battle for last with Oakdale probably coming out on top, since Rwood only has freshman. Look out for these girls in a few years. I'm not sure about MVP, Little would have been my guess before the injury, but now who knows. The Pollitt girl is playing well and the post from Oneida, not sure about her name. There doesn't seem to be one dominant player.
  19. The other guard from Meigs Co. was Rachel Powell. This was in the early 90's when Meigs was dominant. In my opinion she was better then Greene.
  20. Fulmer's salary, and many other coaches salaries, are getting ridiculous. The Peach Bowl was an embarasssment. They were not ready to play.
  21. Godsent, you must not have had any of those coaches who were just teachers (English teachers especially) by the looks of your post. It is very hard to read. Lose the all-caps. I agree that some middle school coaches are guilty of what you said, and I realize that not many people care if a middle school wins, but as a coach at any level your goal has to be to win. It should not be at the expense of all players, but as soon as any team, even middle school starts losing just watch how many people start wanting to fire the coach. Many of your good high school coaches got their start at the middle school level. Also it is becoming hard to find people to coach high school sports because of how things have become with parents complaining all the time. How do you expect to get quality coaches in middle school when the pay is not even enough to cover gas mileage. You mentioned AAU. Do you thing the goal should be to win in AAU?
  22. I'll have to take O.S. in this one. I don't really think it will be as close as everyone is predicting. As stated in a previous post, Hall and Johnson will both get their points, but O.S's other 6-7 players are better than Seymour's. O.S. is just too deep on the bench. I'll take the Lady Cats by 12.
  23. Obviously Laura Hall would be most peoples choice for best player in Roane County if they know anything about basketball, but who do you see as the other premier players. Kirkham, and a few freshman are good, but haven't proven themselves yet - Rockwood Cupp (slower this year, but still quick) and Sizlar - Kingston;Thearp does a good job too Little -Harriman Anyone from Oliver Springs starting 7-8 players
  24. Thomas Davis, Kreis, and Sitzlar. Kingston and Rockwood probably have the 2 best teams. It should be a great game between these two teams.
