  1. Yes this is a must win for McNairy. More than likely, they have to beat Milan and Covington to get in. I believe they only have two paths: 1. Beat Milan and Covington and they are in outright 2. Beat Milan, then Milan has to lose to Westview. McNairy gets the head to head tie breaker over Milan
  2. It should be a good game. McNairy is usually better on defense against teams that run the ball traditional. They have issue with teams that do a lot of miss direction runs. But, if Milan can throw the ball Friday, it will put a lot of pressure on the McNairy offense to score against that Milan defense. Also, this is probably the best passing offense Milan has faced since Trenton. So, I think it will be a good test for their defense as they are going to have to stop both run and pass.
  3. McNairy returns everyone. They should be one of the favorites in 14-AA.
  4. You hit the nail on the head. South Gibson had no turnovers and McNairy had 2 fumbles. Also, SG has a Kickoff return for a TD. In both McNairy losses, they have given up a Kickoff Return which has made the difference in each final score. South Gibson really took away the McNairy running game and accounted for Scott in the passing game. On the first drive in 2nd half, McNairy seemed to finally find some some success running but never went back to it. But, they also started moving the ball well through the air in the 2nd half and stuck with it.
  5. McNairy put a lot of pressure on him. He either threw the ball before he got hit or extended the play and threw it down field to mainly open receivers and had some good scrambles. The kid has got great pocket presence, can move in the pocket, and sling it down field. But if Covington's defense is as good as they say, they will have opportunities to get to him. If we would were able to cover a little bit, we would have had more sacks or forced more thrown away balls. We had I know 3 opportunities for interceptions that hit our hands and we dropped and I believe their was a 4th. If this game comes down to Special Teams, then it's going to Westview. Their kicker is VERY GOOD. Covington will probably not have a kick return and he will put it in the end zone all night. Our game was 57-49 and we only got 2 chances to return a kick. Plus, he has the leg for long FGs. They done good on kick returns as well, they took one to the house and had 2 good kick returns. We started squib kicking after their first 3 returns.
  6. I guess you haven't been following this thread. They might as well hand the Gold Ball to Westview. They will DICTATE to Alcoa how that game is going to go. The reign is over!!!
  7. They threw most of the night against McNairy but that's because we have trouble defending the pass and very very young in the secondary. We start multiple freshmen there. They do have a very good running back though. He can run the ball and is a receiver out of the backfield as well.
  8. He listed at 5'11 205. He just not big enough to play LB at that level and not fast enough to move to Safety in my opinion. He does a really good job of diagnosing plays and attacking. He was talking to some FCS programs at one point. He has a baseball offer.
  9. I believe we lost 1 from the Oline and 1 or 2 from the Dline. We lost multiple linebackers though. We have had one step up and have a good year and the other kid was a transfer from Aville and I believed he was going to make a huge impact at LB but he has gone down with an injury after the1st game and wont be back until earliest week 8. He's a big athletic kid, heck of a football player. But, he tore ACL freshmen year, tore his ACL in the other knee soph year, and had to sit out last year to heal ACL and the transfer rule.
  10. He is a tackling machine, sideline to sideline. He broke the school record for tackles in a career friday night or the week before. Had around 85 freshmen year, and over 100 each year of his soph and junior years. On pace for over 100 this year. If he was just a bit bigger, I believe he could get some D1 looks. Great athlete, been starting catcher for Baseball since freshmen year also.
  11. After years of not being able to stop the South Gibson run game, McNairy figured it out last year. Let's see if it carries over to this season. This is the best defense McNairy has faced since the opening game against Hardin County. If SG can get some stops and grind the clock out with the run game, they will be able to keep the McNairy offense off the field. I think more possessions in the game will favor McNairy. Fewer possessions will favor South Gibson.
  12. Kossuth was up 34-7 at half and won 34-14. I have some folks from Kossuth tell me Kossuth is not very good this year. They were 1-2 going into last night.
  13. I sure would have thought Simpson ran for more than 66 yards last night.
  14. I figured this would be a track meet and it didn't disappoint. I thought the McNairy defense would be the one to get that one stop to win but it did not. My take on the game will be from more of the McNairy view point. I knew we had issues with our secondary, we replaced everyone from last year and are playing 2 freshmen back there. The freshmen havent been too bad but we struggle bad in the tackling department. Big key to the loss tonight. Westview has some good skill players and I'm not talking just about tackling one on one, but as a team. We had many times where we had 4 or 5 guys hit the ball carrier and not bring him down. Not wrapping up and gang tackling. Just arm tackling and throwing shoulders into them. Gave up too many big plays and plays that could have stopped the offense on these types of plays. I didn't like the way we attacked offensively in the 1st half. Westview pretty much had everyone in the box and played Man to Man tight and press coverage on the receivers and brought the house a lot plays. We ran up middle with no success a few times and the outside with not much success a couple times. Most of our routes were quick 3 to 4 yd routes which worked into Westview favor with their coverage. We did run some plays that were deep routes that got behind the defense and we either just missed it or made a play on a couple of them. We had our most success on screens and the RB being in 1 on 1 coverage. Down 38-21, we make huge adjustments at halftime. We come out on offense and run a 3 WR set to the left with a TE attached to the line on the right. The right side of the field had lots of space and once we got the RB in space, Westview couldn't tackle him. First two drives we run 6 or 7 plays out of this and score 2 TDs. The passing game, we start running deep routes. Two of our WRs are running by the secondary all 2nd half. Our TE is attacking the middle of the field intermediate and deep. This was there in the 1st half. Defensively, we made personnel changes in the secondary. We put our WRs in as DBs and they are a lot more athletic. This help slow down the Westview offense along with a couple penalties on a couple drives. Another big difference in the game, it took us until halftime to make major adjustments and it took Westview about a half quarter to a quarter to make an adjustment. Westview was killing us with their outside WR all 1st half. Seems like with our personnel adjustment help slow that down, but Westview adjusted to it by getting a slot WR on our LB and running a quick out route. They were running this a ton it seemed like late 3rd qtr and throughout the 4th It all came down to Westview defense making a play and McNairy defense didn't. McNairy had about 4 chances at an INT and couldnt make the play, Westview has one chance at an INT and they make the play to seal the game. Another note, it kills me when these kids get a dumb personal foul called on them. McNairy got two called on them after stopping Westview and 3rd and long. If not for the penalty, they probably punt the ball. Westview tackled McNairy for a loss on 2nd down that would have set up a 3rd and 13 I believe but got a personal foul that gave them an automatic 1st down. All three possessions end up going for TDs. Thoughts on Westview. Offense is really good. They got some playmakers. A couple WRs, the RB looks good and of course the QB. I'd be interested to see them against a more athletic defense. We had opportunities to stop them but didnt make the play. We got pressure on Simpson but he was able to escape many times and either run or scramble and finally hit a WR deep downfield. I'd like to see how they handle some DBs that stay with their WRs. Not saying they will shut them down because they wont. But they will keep them in the mid 30s to low 40s. As long as the Westview defense can keep you bottled up, they play well. But, I dont think they are very good in space and they are not very good in coverage. Westview was very good in special teams. Kicker is very good, punter done a very good job and they were very good on kick return. They had two good kick returns and then took the 3rd one to the house. After that, we started squib kicking it and they did not handle those too well.
  15. OR McNairy and Covington in Week 10 will be playing to determine Region Champs and #2. How's them TCA guys say it, Just shakin the bush, Boss!!! LOL
  16. So, would you say the ex McNairy assistant Stroup got a call from the McNairy coaches this week? Lol
  17. We all knew they would be better offensively but some of us are waiting to see how much they have improved on defense. They couldnt stop the top 4 teams last year. They had no answer for our RB last year, he went for 225 on 15 carries and he is back this year. We also can throw as our QB and TE have college interest and we have two WRs step up that have play making ability. Our offense is better this year than last year. I believe they will be competitive against the top 4 teams but unless their defense has gotten a lot better, I still think they get outscored by all 4 teams this year.
  18. Bolivar has been shutout by Freedom Prep and Kirby in the 1st two weeks. This game will get ugly.
  19. This game is going to tell how good Westview is. They got thrashed by the top 4 teams in the region last year except South Gibson. They gave up a ton of points to all 4 teams last year. Everybody expected them to be better this year but this is their 1st test and will tell a lot about them. Their first two games were against teams that are not very good and were very limited offensively.
  20. We will see what their defense has next week.
