    Ezell

They havent gone full contact as of today.
  2. It wasnt intended as a slap in the face and im not saying there arent good coached in public schools. What I was intending to get across was that it is very attractive for coaches to coach there. So when you can pick your coach from more applicants its makes for getting a better coach. Thanks for pointing that out BTW. Also if it came down to coaching in a METRO public school or a private school id think the coach would choose the later unless he had certain feelings or ties for publics. 3. I know i almost sound like a public school supporter, which i am according to my taxes, but there is one advantage that everyone has touched on, but i think is the main reason you see private schools exceliing now. In the state of todays urban public schools is terrible and im using the word TERRIBLE here to talk about a school. I have said in some of my posts that it is very sad that our schools in this state are so far behind, but thats more an argument to be made to our representatives than to high school football fans. The advanatage i am talking about is coaching. The private schools have great coaches in urban cities. For example, Ezells football team was terrible all through the mid to late 90's. I mean 2-8 were the norm and we lost to everyone. We were an equal oppurtunity loser losing to anyone and everyone home or away it didnt make a difference. Then when coach Smith arrived and installed his work ethic, which is amazing, the kids started to have fun and win. The guy is amazing i watched him closley last year as he lost 20-25 lbs during the coarse of the season and i knew this guy could win championships, and it doesnt matter on what level. The year before he came Ezell was 2-8 and witht he same players he goes 9-3 and is in the playoffs. Im sure there are many stories like this but it is much the same of all the private schools that i know. DCA has tradition and a great coach, FRA has tradition and a great coach, CPA has a recent tradition bigger than any of them and a great coach. They could goto a public school and win, but why put up with the headaches. If your a good coach you want to learn from these guys. And thats what they have. They have Young coaches some of which are volunteers that understand they can learn alot from these guys and ad value to coaching process. I compare it to the classroom, where are you gonna learn more in a class of 60 or class of 20 people. Well 20 of coarse, more individual attention and more understanding at what theri players are good at and weak at. Everyone always brings up the athletes that private schools get, but it is much more than that. Coaching, dedication, players willing to take instruction, and a school that backs them up all lead to a better team on the field. But it all goes back to coaching, because we have always had good athletes at ezell just not the coaching to back them up. When i was in school we has one of the best classes that never won a thing. We had lineman runninbacks we had good solid players at every postions in our class but couldnt win a thing. I beleive Coaching is where alot of the progress has been made in private schools over them recruiting every player in Nashville. Everyone wants to play for a winner thats the best recruiting you could ever do.
  4. Aight but still the post was argumetive in manner, and was intended to get a rise outta someone maybe just not me. I beleive this post is ridiculous and some the post are hilarious. What about Indians post "long term stats can be misleading' he rather use the last 2 years. Ummm that is one of the most ridiculous things i have ever seen. There are things in stats called anomolies, i think thats how its spelled, and they are outside the norm. I really beleive alot of the improvements in the privates has been led by better coaches coming to those schools, because they saw the advantages they had there. I know at Ezell our sucess has been in direst coorilation to COach Smith COming there. CPA's sucees is the same with Coach Pack, FRA Coach Weicker and the list could go on. But the advantages for private schools dont begin with the kids, becuase you could have all the great athlete you want, but without good coaching its wasted. I am going to start a thread on this topic now that i think about it
  5. Thank you guys i just beleive in tryin to make the best solution possible given the facts. The only thin i really feel adament about is that i am against a total split. I think it is bad for both sides and takes away from the game, but that is just my opinion. A majority of these accussations that are thrown around on here are exactlly that concerning private schools. But if you beleive that recruiting has never happened i have some ocean front property in Wyoming u need to buy. Answer in my case is 1.25-1.75 multiplier and stricter rules on recruitment. Also i have posted this before and i will again. If they are gonna raise taxes by 1 billion dollars give me a break put some of that money into schools. HECK I SAY PUT IT ALL IN THERE and there wouldnt be a need for private schools.
  6. VolunteerGeneral EGO..why don`t you just shut up! You are not a public school coach, so you couldn`t possibly know what you are talking about. Quit being so negative, ok? If you don`t like this discussion, then just go back to the football board and talk football!!! LOL!! LOL!! LOL... This is the exact same thing ive been tellin all the private school bashers on this board for months. You cant talk about things you have no idea about. Very mature post as well. :/ gl and hf i think.
  7. Well as a whole i think private schools have some very distinct advantages, but alot of the ones that have been listed here are not. I am speaking from my experience as a student of Ezell HArding for 8 years and my brother has attended for the last 12 years. I beleive the kids that attend private schools are more disciplined and open to instruction than the majority of public school kids. But at the same time i know that private schools have to have a certain enrollment in order to br profitable. Its not just smart kids that can play sports that goto these schools. I know this as a fact but as a whole they are above average. The Coaches and Parents at a private school DO NOT go on recruiting trips to local middle and elementry schools witht he idea of finding new talent. Now i know some coaches may have done this but it on no way represents the whole. A majority of the recruiting that is done is word of mouth advertising about the advantages that are provided going to a private school. 1st admendment rights uphold anyones right to say OUR SCHOOL IS GREAT and so forth and so on. I also agree that alot of the small rural schools dont have a chance when it comes to playin some of these guys. They have better facilities, easier to coach kids, and overall a caring relationship between the kids and their teachers and coaches. That i think is it in a nut shell, and explains the reason why there is such a disparity in the playing field especially in the 1a and 2a ranks. I beleive the answer is a multiplier not a 2 or 3 multiplier i have seen in the past but 1.5 or 1.35 i think is fair. I also think all the schools should compete against each other and have it set up where schools have to move up after they have showed SIGNIFICANT succeess in one division. Alot of the arguments on here could be curbed with a little understanding about the others guys without all the finger pointing. I feel for the small schools such as Cloudland being one of the smallest enrollments in the STAte. But we dont go and make divisions in order to make sure that one team can win or lose more. It should be done for equality in the sport and not have apples playin oranges. At Ezell we havent been good at Football until the last 3 years when Coach Smith to Arrived since 1990. He has done a great job there and should be commended for it. Ezell last year would have won 2a more than likely and maybe even 3a but in a few years they wont be as dominate and in 2a would get drilled, but it wouldnt be the first time and we wont be complaing. God Luck to all teams this year I hope to see some great games. But ill only see it if your playin Ezell.
  8. Inresponse to you comment about private schools competing in 3a. Some schools would do ok but a majority would not do well at all. But that is ok after some time there i think private schools would catch up in that division. I understand where you are coming from alot more know, because your brother is the coach of Cloudland, a small 1a school that has excelled in east tennessee. Mike is a great coach, but the one thing i will hold onto from this debate is that Public Schools are not doing anything to improve themselves, because they dont have the money to do so. I hope in the near future we can hae some representatives that will address the problem instead of trying to fattin their own pockets. That is where the division is between public and privates it all comes down to money like every other argument. Good Luck to Cloudland but Go Ezell!
  9. Ceasar, Will i do enjoy your rants they are gotten progressivley worse in content. If you are familiar with the number of private schjools in Nashville you would understand why your proposal of geographic zones for High-Schools is ridiculous. Beyond that the main reason i gave up arguing with everyone on this board is basically cause i am out numbered and would rather save my breaTH. Couple reasons i think the idea is useless. Private schools are not getting their good athlete from other private schools that should be the least of your concern. They are coming from the terrible Metro schools in Nashville. Many of them when middle school ends and high school begins in order to avoid the travesty that has become of Metro Schools. I beleive it is of no fault of the teachers or coaches but more on our representatives not funding the schools. That is who you should be angry at for letting public schools fall so terribly behind in this country. As far as this debate about who is right and who is wrong I think the correct answer is we both are right and both are wrong. Thats why this argument can continue until the end of time until someone makes some kind of recession. I think a split is a good thing, but i also think a split favors the private schools to becoming even more a powerful presence in Tennessee than they are know. Some of the public school supporters have said private schools take alot of the good players from them, and this is my point it will get WORSE. All these private schools with free reign to build their program it would be great for them terrible for public schools. You give my alma mater Ezell the oppurtunity to recruit freeely and openly and they will draw kids from lavergne smyrna antioch and Mt Juliet, which they already draw from and maybe a few more like Glencliff and even some in Franklin. My brother is zoned for Centenial, which is a good school but he attended Ezell since the first grade along with about half of his class. All that to say i think its actually your public school system and government letting you down statewide and not the private schools leading this demise.
  10. CPA vs. Ezell in Week 2. Last 2 State Champs and region Rivals.
  11. Apparently no answer is good for Ceasar x3? What in the worls is that. So a Father Ryan has a supposed unrollment of 4000 ? Are you saying private schools that recruit are 3 times better than Maryville, Riverdale?
  12. Ok first of all i would like to state that you are way to stressed out apparently being a coach. Everything doesnt have TO BE PUT IN CAPS for people to understand you. There are schools that have certain religious affilations and under your plan they couldnt goto schhol where there religious affiliations where. Take Father Ryan(Catholic) Ezell, DL(Church Of CHrist), CPA(Presbytyrian) and there are others in Nashville. So i really think ur idea is ludicris, but i will say here that i am not against a split. Zones for private schools is almost laughable, because i dont wanna have the zone with low incomes and have like 20 students per class. I want my Private school in Brentwood/Franklin/Hendersonville places where the per capita income is large. Franklin has the 24th highest per capita income in the country.
  13. Never happen... going to private schools is a choice and they can goto school anywhere they want to. Take David Lipscomb for example, it is a church of christ school and if you want your kid to attend a church of christ school they couldnt under this plan. Some schools have other affiliations where they draw there students from, but i guess if this was the case we could go ahead and split.
  14. Good Post...Public School suppoters just want the system to work to their advanatge, which i dont blame them for. In single a in the 90's publics won 7 of 10 state championships thats enough said.
  15. You can thave to seperate rules if a public school is dominating year in and year out they should have to move up to. But what would this creat "Chaos". People moving up and down everytime reclassification occurs. I dont beleive you can have seperate rules it has to be an "Across The Board" rule. Thats like telling the TSSAA they are to only do things that are to public schools advanatges, but that is just my opinion.
  16. http://www.coacht.com/gallery/single.cfm?PhotoID=4587 Picture from the state championship game. Ezell may have the best combo of linebackers in the state. Antoine Owens and Austin Henderson both will surpass 400 tackles for their career and both will get a chance to play on Saturdays. Antoine verbally commited to Virginia is what i heard here, but i have also heard there are few schools still in the running. 6'3 220 lbs Antoine Started at middle linebacker his freshman year and when i saw him i knew he was a player. Also, both guys split time at runnin back and are effective there as well. [Edited by coacht on 10-31-02 8:24P]
  17. This was about in 1992 when my high school ezell was playin Columbia Academy. Early in the first half We were runnin a power sweep against them and our runnin back was tackled from behind and slung down. As he fell he put his hand down to try to keep his balance, and as he did his elbow popped ouuta place(Ouch!!!). As i go runnin to help him up i noticed that somethin was teribbly wrong as he rithed in abvious pain i noticed his elbow was in the WAY wrong direction and quickly called for help from the sidelines. All that was not funny but as the head coach and trainer ran on the field, the head coach leaned over him (with his arm completely twisted still) and said " ______ son! Whats wrong You got Cramps?" in his slurred speech. Wasnt too funny at the time but lookin back hilarious. Another one we were playin Spring Hill in a close game and my best friend didnt brak one arm he broke one arm and one wrist on the other arm. As they are helpin him of the field i hear him sayin " DOnt Cut My gloves off i payed 20 bucks for them. I almost diead laughin. High School Football is great.
