  1. Read my trademark LONG post in the DCA-Hillwood thread to get my opinion on that.
  2. Recap of this Scrimmage from Yours Truly: 2A DCA vs 5A Hillwood -DCA gets ball first and drives to Hillwood 35 with short passes to Oakley and Goodwin from new QB Tramel. The drive stalled and on play 10, DCA went for the endzone. A beautiful pass from Tramel was wrestled out of the DCA receivers hands and intercepted in the endzone. -Hillwood gets the ball and takes about 9 plays to drive the field and score on a 2 yard plunge from their returning All-District tailback, Antonio Lewis. Big play of possession was rollout pass to Hillwood's huge tight end in the flat that picked up big yardage deep into Wildcat territory. -DCA gets ball back and quickly drives again this time with big plays coming on a big toss sweep to Ryan Fields and a punishing run from Junior Fullback Tyler Acker. The drive agains stalls and DCA runs out of plays inside Hillwood's ten yard line. -DCA defense greatly adjusts and Hillwood can't go anywhere, but they still lead 7-0 as the backups come in. -Later, DCA's starters score on a fade pass to Oakley in the back of the endzone to tie the game. The drive was ignited by big runs by DCA. -Later, DCA threatened again when Tramel rolled out and found Fields way down field for a long reception. Fields caught the ball, stopped on a dime as two trailing Toppers overshot him and made it all the way to the Hillwood 5. The play was called back for holding, however, and DCA would not score again. -Antonio Lewis made a great 40 yard TD run on the next possession for Hillwood. He took an inside handoff on a DCA blitz and weaved his way into the endzone. -Hillwood's backups put one more on the board at the end on a QB sneak and thats how things ended up. DCA Outlook: QB-Tramel and his two backups are all very accurate passers, but are very immobile and pose no running threat. Lots of shotgun today. In fact, it was earily reminiscent of last year's CPA team with Fields as Luke Landers and Tramel as Pollock. RB-Fields and Acker looked relatively good and will have to get used to not having Mark Thompson block for them. WR-Oakley is very good but there is a bit of a dropoff after him. Goodwin and the others are adequate, but I would move Fields to WR and make Acker the sole runner. That would make for a more potent passing attack, IMO. Line-Easily the weakest part of the team, but its understandable. The D-Line adjusted and performed well, but the O-line couldn't keep Hillwood at bay and Tramel was constantly rushed and hurried. Linebackers- Pleasant surprise here after losing Mundy, Pomeroy, and Hoskins. #8 impressed me with his quickness and nose for the football. Secondary- Hillwood rarely passed the ball, but when they did, it was very rarely completed. Good performance from Fields and company in the defensive backfield. Hard to grade, though, considering Hillwood doesn't throw much. Overall, DCA looked like a team that lost 15 Seniors but they did well considering the amount of new starters and the fact that they were playing a 5A team. They will battle CPA and Goodpasture for the District Title but I don't think they have the experience to pull it out. But I hope I'm wrong.
  3. Both teams lost the same thing...skill players, and return the same thing.....linemen. Boyd has a better QB situation and returns a bit more than CPA so I say Boyd by seven or ten points. Although I, as a Region 5-2A fan, will root for the Lions.
  4. Could someone explain Murphy Fair's top 5 preseason polls? The Coach polls look about right, but Murphy has Henry County(?) as the #1 team in 4A, Coalfield as the top team in 1A(somehow Trousdale is #4), and has Boyd over Huntingdon at the #2 spot(which is crazy considering what Boyd lost and Huntingdon is returning) in 2A. What's up with all this?
  5. Absolutely amazing. What an improvement. A young CPA team has gone from #4 in their District to the final four of the state! Congrats to the Lions and I already can't wait for next year's battles between the equally young DCA and CPA for District 9.
  6. *sigh* DCA fans and players must be sick to their stomach to see a score like that. Oh what might and should have been.
  7. Its also on Tennessean.com, so no doubt its true. Anybody have any details? They beat FRA by 30 last time they played!? What the heck happened? The door has just been opened big time for some teams.
  8. I attended the game. Score was a little more lopsided than it was because of all the free throws at the end. DCA actually led for a good portion of the game, including at halftime, but #23 for Harpeth Hall was too much in the end. DCA opened up a 12-4 lead early but HH chipped away and passed them in the 2nd half. DCA just had some open shots rattle out in the fourth quarter and HH did a good job drawing fouls when DCA pressed. HH dominated the FT shooting, which was the difference. DCA should still do just fine in the playoffs as HH is by far the best team they have played and they won't play a team as good as HH in the Single A playoffs.
  9. I know, I know. But unless things have changed, the Associated Press' word IS official and they, too, have DCA unbeaten. Whatever the case, Harpeth Hall has a chance to end their ?unbeaten? season anyways next week.
  10. DCA is UNDEFEATED according to the AP and the Tennessean only now has DCA with a loss(probably a typo to be honest since Tennessean has them at 21-0 just yesterday). They are OFFICIALLY, like it or not, 21-0. Here is a link to DCA's schedule and results on Tennessean.com There is no mention of them losing to Harpeth Hall on there. It has them playing Harpeth, who they beat by 18, but no Harpeth Hall. DCA's Schedule/Results
  11. DCA 76-Friendship 26 The room for you to talk is about -50 points wide.
  12. Should be an interesting first year for the new 2A teams. DCA, CPA, and Boyd all lose a TON of key players from the past 4 years. The team that does the best coaching job will have the most success, in my opinion. And its cool that they all play each other during the regular season.
  13. Someone who still honestly thinks Peardon is BETTER than Wooden who really saw the game Friday is either in SERIOUS denial or is an absolute fool.
  14. I'm not going to make a prediction now because I don't want to look like a fool either way. Some of you people are gonna be dead wrong because fans of both schools have predicted blowout wins for their team. Bottom line, neither team has been challenged this year(aside from the Boyd-Baylor game) and they don't see how it is conceivable that they can be beaten. But someone WILL have to lose this game. But not by as much as fanatics from both schools are predicting. It will be a close game and a great game between two GREAT teams. Good luck to both teams.
  15. 1A-64% picking DCA over Boyd Buchanan 2A-81% picking Alcoa over Huntingdon 3A-55% picking Fulton over Greenbrier 4A-77% picking Maryville over Melrose 5A-95% picking Riverdale over Franklin
  16. This year's team slightly, although I think the 1988 and 1989 teams were better than 96 and 04.
  17. Maybe superior to DCA's but CPA played Riverdale and Goodpasture and a team from NC that had won many state titles and had Carl Pickens on their team.
  18. How many times do I have to explain to you why Wooden's stats aren't as impressive as Peardon's. Peardon has played in every game this year and has had a good amount of carries. Wooden tore his ACL in the summer, missed 3 games during the season, got carries in the single digits in a couple of games(and still got over 100 yards in those games), and is playing in a Region Far Superior to Boyd's.
  19. So just because Dave Thomas can throw, run, defend, return, AND plays on the best team in the state makes him worse than Cade Thompson, who is one dimensional and plays against lesser competition?
  20. If you would have taken the time to notice the stats I presented in my post, you would have noticed that Thomas managed to "scramble around for 2 of 3 yards" and somehow accumulate MORE yards this year than Cade Thompson. God gave us brains, think before you speak.
  21. Good post. Good to see people keeping guys like me in line.
  22. Two different QBs. I have never seen Thompson play but I have seen Thomas play and Thomas is more of an "athlete" than strictly a QB. Someone on here already mentioned that he is being recruited as an "athlete". He returns punts, plays DB, and runs the ball very well. He is a good passer but probably not as good as Thompson, but looking at Cade Thompson's rushing stats, he doesn't look like he could run his way out of a cardboard box. Here are Dave Thomas' 2004 Stats. Passing-87 Attempts/46 Completions/944 Yards/13 Touchdowns Rushing-77 Attempts/972 Yards/14 Touchdowns Punt Returns-18 Returns/234 Yards/2 Touchdowns Total Stats -182 Touches/2150 Yards/29 Touchdowns CREDIT: RIVERDALE'S WEBSITE He also plays Defensive Back(his probable College Position) and is an extremely good one, though teams don't throw the ball his way much this season for obvious reasons. Not to mention he plays on one of the best HS teams in the COUNTRY.
  23. I'm not trying to make excuses for Wooden because he wouldn't want anyone making excuses for him. But there is a thread a couple of pages back that is nothing but a bunch of people who are angry that he didn't win Mr. Football. Go back, if you want to understand why we think he is the best player in 1A and read it. We are not saying Wooden should have won. He missed a few regular season games and didn't put up the numbers he has the past couple of years because of his offseason ACL tear. What I'm saying is that at his best, in my opinion(and in tons of other people's opinion on this board) he is the best in 1A at 100%. Its just our opinion and you don't have to agree. And like I said, we'll find out Friday. Be there.
