  1. I disagree with that.....if I am not mistaken, McMinn Central has been a big speedbump to Region 4 AA in recent yrs. I also bet you could have asked Livingston last year how big a speedbump Walker Valley was....and they have everybody back this year....But it goes in cycles......from 91 to 95 Region 4AA wasn't even much of a bump for Meigs as they made 5 straight state appearances....winning 2
  2. Tyner had better not overlook McMinn Central.........if they do it could be a district 5 sweep in the first round........if Meigs plays like their capable........but so far they have been Jekyll and Hyde all year......
  3. Ain't Walker Valley still in East TN.....They are tough this yr. especially in AA ...but then again they should be .....they have twice as many students as everybody else they play......Wait till next yr. their bubble will burst hard.
  4. Two great ones from Meigs County......Gary Moore, in 1975 gained 2100 plus yards and scored 33 TD's during undefeated regualr season. Probably just played in 25 of the 40 quarters because games were out of hand. Also, Gary Meadows still second in single season all purpose yards. In 1993 had 1500 rushing 600 receiving, about 500 in kickoff and punt returns....and throw in 2 Int. returns for TD......Best I saw play against Meigs Co. was Jermaine Copeland from Harriman. Played QB but was a great high school runner. Scored 42 pts. in a 42-28 victory over undefeated Meigs team in state quarterfinals.
  5. The Big, Bad, Owls have a couple of good seasons in the past 50 years and now you want to talk smack about teams being afraid to play you. YEAH, RIGHT !!
  6. O K.......I have been reading these posts for a few days now and it is time for me to throw my 2 cents worth in. As a long time supporter of a team in Region 3AA I have had a long look at Lipscomb and Goodpasture for a few yrs. now. Not since reallignment 4 yrs ago has a team from east tennessee (with the exception of Tyner) came even close to beating one of these teams. This year will be NO exception. Lipscomb will beat Alcoa, but it won't be by 49 points this year. They are just too well coached and plenty good enough athletically to hang the loss on Alcoa. Region 2 beats up on Region 1 every year in the first round of the playoffs and get a false idea of how good they are. They then beat on each other for a couple of rounds before they come to a REAL football team. Welcome to our world Region 2. Three teams from Region 3 have decided to move up to class 3A to get away from these schools. After Friday night, ya'll will be wishing you had done the same. Surprised is not the word I will be if Alcoa pulls out a win.....SHOCKED is more like it.
  7. AMEN, brother, and well said
  8. The only complaint I have is that the public schools have very little chance against these teams. Don't have the resources (million dollar weight rooms, paid strength and conditioning coaches. etc.). These teams should be playing teams with the same conditions. Just because you say you don't give financial aid doesn't make it a fact.
  9. You are right on the magnet school thing. They supposedly have a lottery to see which students get selected. It seems the lottery must be loaded with 4.4 forty kids or 6'3" 280 lb. kids. Guess it is just lucky draw.
  10. Good to see that expensive private school education is working for you. Judging by your grammar and puncuation, you obviously are an english major.
  11. Saying Goodpasture doesn't recruit is like saying Vandy doesn't (oh, my bad, Vandy really doesn't). They need to change their school name or recruit players with cleaner mouths and actions. Kinda conflicting. Several late hits called against Meigs and several more that should have been. Didn't affect the outcome at all but showed VERY little class.......GP will probably beat Tyner (with better coaching, not better athletes). Pulling for the RamTrain though, and never have in the past.
  12. The only, and I mean ONLY teams in east tennessee that have a shot at the gold ball are: Boyd Buchanan (a lock), Alcoa (but they thought they had a shot last year and you saw what happened), Austin East (real good shot), Maryville (a lock), and DB (pretty good shot). Tyner has NO shot regardless what their fans think. Proved in the past they cannot win on talent alone. Should have at least 4 championships already and have one.
  13. Old, Old school. From Meigs County best baseball player Ronnie Campbell. Played for Cubs in early sixties. Football, Gary Moore, who played at UT in late 70s. Pretty sure Steve Sloan is from Bradley Co. You were prob thinking of Steve Spurrier from Science Hill.
  14. They would go into a student "LOTTERY" and have to reopen Tyner.
  15. 1973 Baylor Red Raiders. National Champs with greatest high school coach ever. E.B. (Red) Etter. Too bad half their team wasn't even from Tennessee.
  16. Woulda....Coulda.......Shoulda.......Games over.....Meigs played well first half. Sequatchie played better second half. The penalties on Seq. were not for motion, but because the right tackle and tight end continuously lined up offsides. That is why it was called offsides and not motion. Clock operator was clueless on both sides of the ball. As was the back judge who ruled touchdown on fourth down pass that the ref right on the play ruled down on half yard line. Meigs continues to improve, especially the last 2 weeks.
  17. No question who does or does not like him. I just thought it was kind of bad that he refused to shake hands after the game. It was a good, clean game and there was NO reason not to shake the other teams hand.
  18. WV showed very little class after the game. Actually, just one player did as he refused to shake hands with Meigs after the game. You Central folks should know who he is (if you know what I mean). Congrats to the Tigers on a big win.
  19. Two great assistants not coaching football this year are Sayne and Grissom at meigs county
  20. Well said. AAU is absolutely killing the small, country schools. Let the kids be kids and play ball. Get a little sun and go outside every once in a while....
  21. They will never make it out of sub state round this year. Too soft in the middle and coach will decide to try to coach come tourney time.
  22. How many championship banners are hanging from the rafters at McMinn Centrals roundhouse? Should be more than the zero that are there.
  23. Holly Rogers from Cleveland is the best I've seen this year. Apparently Vandy must think so too. She lit up McMinn Central's 3 "Division 1" guards tonight. Had at least 25 and Centrals 3 might have had 12 combined.
  24. Smith definately deserved award over Bolden. He played hard EVERY play, not just when he felt like it. Agree with Pounder about the lazy comment. If talking could win awards then Bolden would have blown away the competition. Not sure how he is ranked in the top 3 of the nation......unless it's based strictly on size and potential..
  25. Looks like the train got derailed again by the boys from Music City......Guess it won't be an east tenn sweep this year.........The big, strong. awesome......incredible Tyner linemen were no match for those poor lil fundamentally sound FOOTBALL players from Lipscomb......Must have rained at Tyner today....I'm sure it must have been a muddy field.....
