  1. Amen, brother. That's exactly what I say. When I was a kid we didn't need to lift b/c we were tough. Bear Bryant had a terrible weight program and look at how many title he bought, I mean won. I think strenght coaches are just a racket. It's kinda like youth ministers: everybody has one b/c evrybody else has one, but we all know they're both as useless as nipples on a boar hog. It's just good-ole-boy job security. Furthermore, all weights do is make you a muscle bound neandratal that can't wipe his own butt. Schools ought to save their money and buy their kids somehting that'll really help them, like more uniforms.
  2. Great point. Think about all those Miami Hurricane teams that dominated in the '80's. They had little talent, but great discipline.
  3. Well, I think the thread title and topic description are self-explanatory. I have opinions, but will hold off until a few of you other junkies get your turn. EVH out!
  4. Perry44, Please leave the computer lab and go back to class. And, by the way, are you still taking your medication as prescribed?
  5. What does Aydelot do that McPahil doesn't?
  6. Yes, I know they are yellow. Glad you agree. They wouldn't get anymore easy wins over all those poor public 2A schools that do not have the luxury of recruiting. (After all, DL may not be able to give financial aid, but they can still recruit.) Looking at the list of teams I mentioned (plus Boyd-Buchanan), DL would be lucky to finish in the top 4 in many years. BGA -- excellent chance of losing; BGA should have beaten them in '02 CPA -- excellent chance of losing DCA -- excellent chance of losing JPII -- wins for a few more years, but just wait until Brothers* really gets things going FRA -- wins for a few more years, but just wait until McGugin* really gets things going Ezell -- excellent chance of losing; Ezell outplayed them last year Davidson -- wins for a few more years, but just wait until Wade* really gets things going Goodpasture -- excellent chance of losing Boyd-Buchanan -- we know what happened last time those two teams played (*All of those young coaches will eventually run circles around McAdams. He's still running an offense from the 1950's and they're innovative. The times have passed him by.)
  7. Not sure what they'll do w/ those rezoned kids. Many times when this happens they allow athletes to remain at their old school, but who knows w/ Metro.
  8. They have a chance to be good (again). More importantly, I think McPhail is pretty darn close to having more than a good team, he is close to having a good program. A few more years like last year and he'll do what Aydelot and his staff were able to do at Hillsboro. I hear McPail has a good staff and excitement is growing over there. There is little doubt that they have the athletes in the school to get the job done.
  9. They (BA) are DII and can give financial aid, not recruit. There is a difference. DL could easily play all those aforementioned teams if they would just move over to DII where they should be anyway. Not sure why all those guys are so unwilling to join a league in which region play would look like this: BGA CPA DCA JPII FRA Ezell Davidson DL Goodpasture They must be yellow.
  10. They ought to hire Jay Gore from Hillsboro.
  11. Not true Twitty. GP beat DL in week 2 of the 2002 season. Next year's seniors were sophomores when that game was played.
  12. Amen. Let's go back to the way things were. Slavery was awesome. The thought of owning others b/c it helped the economy is sorely missed. After all, owning the less civilized is actually honoring the slaves. Segregation was almost as good. I love the way blacks were forced to have separate churches, neighborhoods, bathrooms, restaurants, etc. Even better, it was beautiful when blacks could not be baptized in white baptistries. But if they were, the baptistries were drained and cleaned before further usage. (A little sarcasm here.) Last time I checked, no one can stop me from praying before a game, meal, legislative session, class, etc. Whether I say the prayer out loud or in silence is irrelevent to me. Prayer has become about something completley other than prayer; it has become about winning. We feel we must be able to pray publicly or else we have lost.
  13. Who do you think lost the most this year in terms of coaches? Please also keep assistants in mind. I know of one staff that didn't lose its head coach, but will lose at least one assistant that will make the difference in some crucial games.
  14. I assume you mean '04-'05.
  15. The biggest thing about Polk is that they are moving from being a school w/ occassional success to a real PROGRAM. If their coach will hang around a few more years they will continue to build something bigger than a good team. I know they've come a long way in 5 years.
  16. I don't know Gilmer, but they missed out on a good one in Swenson.
  17. Yes, I would say those days are over. The reason I would say that is because of what's already been stated: year-around leads to burnout, unrealistic parents. I also think HS coaches have bought into the notion that good coaches are always looking for greener pastures (not to be confused w/ Goodpasture). They seem to think that the next job will be the place to be.
  18. Few players on the HS level can change the game from receiver, but Turner is one that can. He had ~250 yards receiving vs. Tyner in the first half last year. I think he is a DI player, but only time will tell.
  19. Anything under 4.4 is a rarity.
  20. What is wrong with their old facility? I mean other than the fact that the building where teams dress has signs that say "Condemned" it is a great place.
  21. The guy is a specimen. Goldenboy does not exaggerate when he speaks of him.
  22. Tyner loses too much meat on the line to be as dominant as they were last year. Sure, they'll have speed, but fewer blockers. That region could be wide open next year.
  23. Two coaches from MBA (including Bowers), one from CPA, and one from BA. Indeed, a powerhouse coaching staff, but apparently Ensworth's existence will NOT impact area private schools. At least that's the argument that has been stated on another thread. I suppose Ensworth also has a science department that is growing wealthy families on trees.
  24. From what I remember, Lipscomb lost a lot of seniors. There's no way they can be as good as they were last year. Well, maybe as good as they were against Huntingdom (lol)! Any classification change won't occur until the '05 season. But it look like Lipscomb will probably be 3A after the multiplier goes into effect. I guess Lipscomb leaving 2A is good news for Meigs, but Goodpasture will remain, and schools like CPA, Ezell, DCA, etc. will be moved up to 2A.
