  1. Eddie, Don't sell yourself short. I think you are very smart. When I bought that cappicino from you last week and gave you incorrect change, you caught my mistake and refunded the extra Ohio commemorative quarter. You could have just slipped it in your pocket and been 2 bits richer. You showed great math skills by catching this and great integrity by returning it to me. When I complained about paying $3.39.95 for regular unleaded gas 3 weeks ago, you showed tremendous insight into our nation's economy as you explained that the demand exceeded the supply (along with the looming Labor Day holiday travel) coupled with the shut down of many oil facilities along the gulf gave you no choice but the raise your prices to cover your replacement costs for your fuel supply. Your explanation inspired me to call a commodities broker and purchase options on 100,000 gallons of gasoline (only to see the price drop significantly over the last 2 weeks). When I purchased a long distance phone card, you quickly directed me to a card that was a better deal. Thanks. That 5,000 minute card will last me for a long time. But there is one difference in your job and coaching. You don't have anyone yelling at you when you get the mix wrong on the icee machine or when the twinkees on the counter are past the expiration date. Maybe we can get Peyton Manning to stop by and film a commercial at your store. Don't sell yourself short Eddie. The next time I am in your Mapco, I will leave a little change in the "tips are appreciated" jar. You deserve it.
  2. Fieldgoal1 isn't from Lipscomb. He is a West Tennessee boy who obviously doesn't remember that Cheatham played Huntingdon very tough in the playoffs last year. They are a great team who will give Lipscomb all they want and more. It should be a great game this Friday. Either team could win.
  3. As long as we are in the Mid-west, who will win this year's St. Ignas/Cheybogan matchup on 9/9? You just have to love that Straights Area Conference. How about Frasier vs Utica this Friday? Frasier football hasn't been the same since Jesse Blair went to Central Michigan and Matt Sorgi went to Wisconsin. This may be the year the excitement returns to the Rams sidelines.
  4. Final thoughts on the game. Alcoa played a great game and deserved to win. To some of the DL supporters who got several threads locked last week (most of you are college students). a. To those who never played football-you just don't know any better. Remember that it is better to be silent and be thought a fool than to open your mouth (or computer) and remove all doubt. b. To those who played for Coach Mac- if he tried to teach you anything, it was that you always respect your opponent and that you always show class. Our team got beat by a very good Alcoa team. You guys that got on here didn't seem to respect them and you didn't show class. Arrogance is never a virtue. I hope you will remember the lessons your coaches tried to teach you by word and example next season. If you can't, please don't post on here. Go to the WWF web page. It is more suited to the mentality you showed. Don't ever forget Whose name you were taught to play for. Some of you forgot this season.
  5. Hey Goph. How is Mount Nebo doing this year? Did they make the playoffs?
  6. [ BTW, where is Ted L Nancy? I heard he had been way down since the Nov. 3 concession by John Kerry, but to not be on this thread is mind boggling. Hang in there Ted. I hear Hillary will run in '08 and maybe your dream of having a NAMBLA home office in NE Mississippi will finally come true. Go Hillary! Eddie, I'm glad you missed me. I have been very busy loading up the 72 chevy van. I have been extremely depressed since Nov. 2. I am in the process of selling my house and moving to Canada. Some of my Hollywood friends are starting a commune in Saskatchewan and we are going to start a new life there. By the way, do you know what you call 10,000 liberals heading to Canada? Answer: A good start
  7. Next 4 1A Blue Cross Bowl matchups: Trousdale County vs. Union City or Mt. Pleasant
  8. The Lipscomb line played the whole game on both sides of the ball. Austin Rogers, who had a hurt back, came off the bench and played both ways in the second half after East Robertson got the momentum. He was still in the game at safety during the 4th quarter. The starting Lipscomb defense stopped ER on downs inside the 20 in the 4th quarter. I hope Lipscomb wins, but it will be a tough game. I just get irritated when some Lipscomb fans (not players-they know better) and college students (who never even played highschoolfb) seem to think Lipscomb will win just by showing up. East Robertson is a very physical team with a great running game. Chief
  9. Where did you pick up your writing skills? They are amazing. Isn't it wonderful what a private school education will do for a student. I'm glad your parents' tuition money is being so spent so wisely. I went to a rural school in West Tennessee and my backwood's teachers didn't teach us to write this well. We actually had to spell things correctly and construct meaningful sentences.
  10. Personally, I'd say you weren't at the Lipscomb-East Robertson game a few weeks ago. While it's true that Lipscomb jumped out to a quick 35-0 lead. They won the game 35-14 and stopped ER on 4 downs around the 10 yard line on another series. The Lipscomb starters had to play the whole game. ER played the game without one of their starting running backs. The score of that game was very deceptive. It was a physical, hard hitting ball game-by both sides. If Lipscomb's team enters the game with your attitude, then ER will advance to the 3rd round. I've got a feeling they know they better bring their A game.
  11. Back to the original topic of this thread. Early exit polls obtained from CBS news are predicting that both Lipscomb and Alcoa will advance through the playoffs to round 4. Alcoa will win a defensive struggle 4 to 3. Dan Rather commented that the Alcoa defense will go though the Mustang offense like a hot knife through butter during a Texas tornado. He also said the margin of victory will be as thin as turnip soup on a night that was as cold as an old maid at a church social. Now a look into the future. 2012 2A Blue Cross Bowl Gilt Edge will defend their state championship by defeating Rockwood. 2013 2A Blue Cross Bowl Alcoa returns to the Blue Cross Bowl and defeats Trenton Peabody. 2014 2A Blue Cross Bowl Trousdale County over Middleton 2015 2A Blue Cross Bowl Alcoa is back and picks up a win over Humboldt 2016 2A Blue Cross Bowl Alcoa makes it 2 in a row with a triple overtime win over Huntingdon 2017 2A Blue Cross Bowl Sweetwater over Milan 2018 2A Blue Cross Bowl Happy Valley over Waverly 2019 2A Blue Cross Bowl Marion County over Camden 2020 2A Blue Cross Bowl Alcoa returns but loses to Trenton Peabody 2021 2A Blue Cross Bowl Tyner over Jackson Christian 2022 2A Blue Cross Bowl Milan over Meigs County That is as far out into the future as it is safe to predict for now. The players who will participate in the 2023 game have not been born yet and I would really have to go out on a limb to make a prediction.
  12. This a great thread, but forget about November 26 and cut to the real issue. What about the 2011 Blue Cross Bowl 2A match-up between Gilt Edge High School in Tipton County and the new Townsend Magnet School. Even though these schools are still in the planning stages, they will both be powers in 7 short years. I think it is apparent to anyone who keeps up with the state of junior pro football in this state that these 2 schools are destined to meet in the 2011 Blue Cross Bowl. Both communities are loaded with talented 5th graders. If those kids will stay together and listen to their parents, the 2011 state championship awaits one of them. So you guys who are living 3 weeks in the future need to get a life and start looking forward 7 years. It will be here soon.
  13. I think they are the screaming gophers. Is Hayden Fox retiring? I always thought that Michael Daubinski would get the head job. I guess Luther Van Damm is just too old to take over. That Edward's guy must be 1 smart cookie to get the job as the head coach of the screaming gophers. Is Donnie Warner still on that staff?
  14. His name is Madison Edwards. I think he used to coach at Ezell Harding and Lipscomb. He "cut his teeth" working with Kevin Temple at Lipscomb. Temple is also largely responsible for McGavock's defensive success. He trained their DC, Baskin Green, when he was at Lipscomb.
  15. You have obviously not seen Greenbrier play. Roger Herndon is one of the hardest runners in the state, and he is by no means a 1 man team. Greenbrier made it to the 3A semifinals last year and they look even better this season.
  16. If you saw the Ezell/CPA game, you wouldn't say that. Ezell ran over 70 offensive plays against CPA. That means their offense held the ball a long time. I remember last year when some uninformed fans said this game would be ugly. I think Ezell hung in there and kept the game close for 48 minutes. Lipscomb got out of their with a hard fought win. I'm sure that 1 week ago, Florida fans thought that the Miss. State game "wasn't worth playing" either.
  17. largec, This statement is what Coach McCadams would call being "fat and happy". Iwould guess that you are one of the experts in the stands. I'm sure the Lipscomb players learned against Huntingdon last year, the White House scrimmage this fall and the Greenbrier that losing is a possibility anytime you take the field. "No chance" doesn't exist in sports and if you had ever been on the field against Tyner, you would know they always have a very good chance to win the anytime they take the field. Also, your post about Lipscomb beating Station Camp by 8 touchdowns was insane. When has a Glenn McCadams coached team ever beaten a team by 8 touchdowns and besides that, Station Camp is a quality team. The Mustangs better be ready to play hard for 4 quarters.
  18. Several years ago, I was visiting family in Pasedena, Texas. My uncle was a good friend of the City Schools AD and he took me for a tour of the city stadium. It looked like a college facility and probably seated 15,000 plus. The AD told me that many of the best coaches in Texas were at the junior high level. When I asked why, he said it was because of the enormous pressure to win. When many of the talented coaches get to the point in life where they want stability for their family, they find a good junior high job and settle into it. If they don't win at the high school level year in and year out, they get fired. Wives tire of the constant moving, so if the coach wants to keep his family together and keep his kids from changing schools every 2-3 years, junior high coaching is his best bet to continue coaching and keep the family happy. If that is truely reality there, it is a sad commentary on society.
  19. If Huntingdon is anywhere close to being as good in the next 4 years, then private schools won't win it all 4 years. Last year, Milan was as strong as Huntingdon. If they put the Nashville private schools in region 5 and send them west, then there could still be a public school in the blue cross bowl from the west half.
  20. East Tennessee schools may have made the correct decision. If mid-state teams, especially those west of the plateau had waited until Thursday at noon, they would have seen forcast that dropped rain chances to 20% by 3:00 p.m. on Friday. That forcast was available on the weather channel Thursday morning at breakfast time. Oh well, at least the teams playing on Friday in middle Tennessee should have good conditions. The wind will dry the fields out nicely and should die down by late afternoon.
  21. A power outage near Briley Parkway forced the PS2 Goodpasture/Lipscomb game to be suspended with 8:37 remaining in the 2nd quarter and the score tied at 5-5. Lipscomb tied the game when Lipscomb's Chuck Ross had a 97 yard punt that bounced off of the head of Goodpasture's Chris Snoddy on the 3 yard line and went out of the back of the endzone. Corey Redding, who can't decide which school he is actually associated with, said it was the most amazing kick he had seen since he saw Andy McWilliams kick 29 consecutive 50 yard field goals during pre-game before the Cougars hosted BGA in 1999. After a 1 hour wait, school officials actually watched the channel 2 future cast. When they determined that the rain would end in middle Tennessee overnight, they decided to play the game at the regularly scheduled time of 7:00 on Friday night.
  22. Due to the remnants of Hurricane Ivan, the game is actually being played right now at a neutral site. Channel 4's Larry Britton reported on his word on the street that the game will be settled on a play station 2 at an undisclosed location near the Gaylord Opryland Hotel. A 6th grader from Lipscomb and a 6th grader from Goodpasture will be at the controls with the actual head coaches offering in-put on the play selection. Rain and wind were built into the playing conditions to reflect a true to life game situation. The game can be seen on COMCAST EA SPORTS channel at this very moment. Goodpasture currently has a 5-3 lead with 2:21 remaining in the 1st quarter. The teams swapped field goals (Lipscomb from 27yds and Goodpasture's was a wind aided 78 yds) and then Lipscomb fumbled a screen pass at the 50, but a gust of wind blew the ball through the endzone for a safety.
  23. You want BBQ? Then try Jack's Creek in Chester County. They have "whole hog" BBQ with a vinegar based sauce. If you get there early, you can get white meat out of the ham. A BBQ sandwich loaded with sauce and slaw, a moon pie and an RC. That's a true West Tennessee gourmet meal. "It just don't get no better than this." The cook needs to be wearing dirty overall's and have a stream of tobacco juice running down the 3-4 days growth of whiskers on his face. If the cook doesn't match this description, then you're just eating pork, not true BBQ.
  24. Is he going to be the defensive coordinator at Lipscomb? I heard their old coordinator went to McGavock.
  25. Where is the best place to run a track meet? MBA is a great place for meets. The Doug Hall Relays are always well organized and efficient. Coaches Pruitt and Compton always do a good job with their meets. There aren't too many sporting events that are as exciting to watch as a well run track meet. Unfortunately, there aren't too many sporting events that are as boring as a poorly run track meet.
