  1. Just to add....... most of the kids from the Tyner Middle programs never won a game in middle school. Wayne Turner deverves a ton of credit for the conditioning and coaching he does with these kids.
  2. Dynastys? I'm sure someone on this board has a list of the last decade of AA champs. I seem to recall a lot of victories from teams in regions 3 and 4. Anyone got an update?
  3. Teams better bring their best games tonight, loser gets Tyner in the first round. Winner plays Polk -- still a tough game, but not Tyner tough.
  4. Good call, Golden Eagle, I forgot all about Notre Dame. Judging from their schedule and scores (haven't seen them play), I'd put them right after Boyd and drop Hixson off the list.
  5. Great poll, every week, if for nothing other than stirring up conversation. A few things: 1) I agree about LFO's position. Problem is that only McCallie even played them this season. This is an issue that can not be resolved on the field. They probably shouldn't be in it. 2) I'll respect your opinion on Ooltewah and Soddy given that you've been at many more of those Owls games than I have. Trouble is that Ooltewah actually beat Soddy on the field (albeit Soddy apparently played better for 3 quarters). Given their equal records and that Ooltewah won the head-to-head, I'd suggest that maybe Ooltewah should be ahead of Soddy. Next week, when Soddy loses to Oak Ridge and Ooltewah beats Farragut, maybe this order will be adjusted accordingly. 3) I'm a huge fan of the RAM TRAIN, but to me they look very vulnerable this year. I guess I'm getting used to the 30 point margins of victory, and these one or two touchdown victories make me nervous. I'd really like to see Tyner play Soddy or Ooltewah to get a better idea of what this team is made of. Great job in the win against Meigs without #1. 4) Don't you think Baylor would beat anyone below #5 on your list? In fact, they did beat Boyd on the field (though only by a field goal). Baylor's four losses come against some pretty fierce teams, while their victories also come at the expence of some pretty good teams. They've earned a .500 record in probably one of the toughest schedules in the state given that their weakest opponent this season (so far) has been Hixson, who will likely be .500 at the end of the season. Compare that to Boyd, Ooltewah, Soddy, and Tyner who all have at least 3 guaranteed laughers on their schedule. My top 10? 1) McCallie 2) Ooltewah 3) Soddy 4) Tyner 5) Baylor 6) Boyd 7) Red Bank 8) East Ridge 9) Rhea County 10) Hixson (would put Cleveland because of record, but how can they lose to Chatt. Central & Walker Valley in the same season?!)
  6. I think that what some people fail to realize is that this IS a DOWN year for Tyner. We lost a few TANKS last season from the line. The other teams in the conference all seem to feel they are having some of their best seasons. The part that's disappointing is that the RAM TRAIN is STILL rolling through the division. Do we have to wait until next year when BOYD will provide a challenge?
  7. Am disappointed that Tyner has not shown up on anybody's dream schedule. Dream schedule for Tyner would be (in any order): McCallie Ooltewah Soddy Daisy Boyd Buchanan Baylor LFO (Georgia) South Pittsburgh Polk County Oak Ridge Cleveland These are the best teams the region has to offer. Good crowds because most games are very close. Low travel expense. Good quality football on both sides of the ball every game.
  8. Right now, sitting at Tyner Academy, I can tell you that the weather looks like perfect football weather. This game should be played under great conditions.
  9. This is the second game Tyner will be playing on their fall break. Even if coach Turner holds practices all week, it'll be difficult for the guys to come into the game as ready as they would be during a normal week. I still predict a Tyner victory, but hate this ridiculous fall break and what it does for continuity to the program.
  10. I have a hard time imagining that either of those teams could compete with LFO. LFO has just been so dominant this season.
  11. Sounds like a situation where there is no good play. He kneels and you call it lack of respect. I'm sure if he ran it and scored, it would be running up the score. Sounds like no matter what happened Boyd was going to embarass the other team. Who bears the responsibility for this lopsided victory? Boyd bears half of it for being a well prepared ball-club. Maybe the other team bears some responsibility for not being prepared to play? I don't even remember what game we're talking about, but at some point the losing team has to aknowledge the fact that they were just flat out beaten by a better club. Take the film back to the lockerroom and figure out how to do a better job.
  12. I had heard rumor that they were trying to move to 4A. Enrollment does keep Tyner at 2A, but every other factor makes 4A a good idea. 4A teams are all within 1/2 hour drive (opposed to some 1-to-2 hour trips to Tellico, Meigs, Marion, & Sequatchie). 4A teams are also logical intra-city rivals. Tyner has played (and beaten) Central, Hixson, and Brainerd. A division with Tyner, Red Bank, Brainerd, Hixson, Central, Cleveland, & Walker Valley makes a ton of sense from a football perspective and from a travel cost perspective. Might also put Tyner in a class where another team may beat them every once in a while.
  13. I, for one, am looking forward to seeing Boyd and Tyner play. Coach Turner won't be whining. Good move for Boyd. Still wish Tyner had moved to 4A. Antone know why they didn't?
  14. I don't think Tyner will overlook Polk. The only reason Polk is the homecoming opponent is because of this ^%@$ fall break that Hamilton County is imposing. Ideally Bledsoe would be homecoming. That game, though, is while the kids are out of school. Tyner's homecoming choices were Polk or Chatt. Central -- neither an attractive choice. That said, I think Tyner still wins. Will be a good game.
  15. I had heard rumors that Tyner was going to move to 4A. Am disappointed to learn that it didn't happen. Would have been a good move.
  16. As TIPHI97! has pointed out, it makes a lot of sense for Tyner to jump to 4A. Right now, the team has to travel up to two hours just to play region games. Gate, concessions, and parking are hardly worth it when it is always a blow-out and fans from those schools from far away rarely make the trip. As it is, Tyner has recently played (and beaten) Hixson, Chatt Central, and Brainerd -- all 4A schools. Also, Turner is already scheduling schools like BGA and McCallie as non-division games to give the players some tougher competition. Someone earlier pointed out that Tyner is set in 2A. If having an easy schedule and dominating the conference is being "set", then this is true. Coach Turner, however, seems to look forward to better competition, not fear it. Financially, travel costs go down, revenues go up, and competition gets better if Tyner jumps to 4A.
  17. To suggest that the band is only in the stands to support the football team is as demeaning to the band as it is wrong. Yes, the band is at the game in support of it's team, but also to entertain the crowd and to give their own performance. Obviously you appreciate the band or you wouldn't recognize that they weren't playing in the third quarter, so why the animosity? The football team takes a break and rests during half-time. During this same (15 to 20 minute) halftime, the bands are performing. Isn't it fair to give the band a 12-minute quarter off after playing the whole first half and the entire half-time? Have you ever tried to play an instrument for two hours without a break? As to the posters who complain about the same show every week, do you realize how complicated it is to learn (usually memorize) ten minutes of music and drill? These kids are also working on concert music, All-State, All-County, and/or All-Region auditions, and are spending a large part of their class time becoming better musicians. While most students in the band enjoy being at football games, this is by no means the main focus of any band program. If you don't like the band, feel free to go to the concession stand during their performance. If you are like most schools, there are more band parents than football parents in the stands, and they'd love to be able to see the reason they came to the game.
  18. Guess it depends on where you're from. I think the Tyner vs David Lipscomb game should be great. Isn't Lipscomb #2 in the Earl Nall power rankings and Tyner #4? We've had a nice little rivalry going in recent years, so the team, the fans, heck, even the bands should be pretty fired up.
  19. Enter the stadium from the parking lot off of Ty-Hi drive. That'll put you at the south ticket gate. No stairs. Enjoy the game!
  20. I enjoyed your post, twittycanes!, except for the "Beat Tyner"! Please know that the majority of Tyner fans also respect the quality of David Lipscomb and it's football program and are looking forward to a chance to test our kids against one of the best. I'll be at the game rooting for good football, and hoping our Rams can reverse their fortune from last season. I'd also like to let you know that the majority of the kids on the Tyner team are respectful students and work hard in the classroom. I know that there's been a lot of negative publicity recently, but the majority of the team really are good people and hard workers. If they win, there couldn't be a better group to do it. Good luck to you and yours, but I'm hoping you'll have a long and unhappy ride home after enjoying a very hospitable loss to the Tyner Rams. Peace!
  21. I was going to put this reply on the other thread, but it was locked before I finished typing my post. I hope I'm not offending any moderators here, and I don't think this post is inflammatory: I've got to say that with all of the buzz about the Lewis County band, I'm hoping that Tyner will get a chance to see them this season. This is the kind of band we love to play against. Congratulations to Mr. Luna for creating all of this buzz on a football forum. To confirm tricklician's! information (from the other thread), the referees are indeed empowered to shut down the opposing team's band. It's not a rule that's often enforced, and usually only after a complaint from the opposing team's coach is made. After a complaint is made, the official asks the coach of the team with the offending band to have them stop playing while their own team is on defense. This does not only apply to the home band, but to both bands in the stadium. I am a tremendous advocate of bands at football games. I think it adds to the intensity of the game and helps energize the players and fans. I don't agree that a band that plays while the opponent is on offense is showing a lack of class, but rather gamesmanship. If the opposing team is so flustered by their opponent's band that their play is disrupted, then they just need to make a request of the official and the problem stops. Please put yourself in the shoes of the band member. These students work as hard to prepare for the game as the members of the team. They want to come to the game and "show their stuff" just as much as the football players. To be told to sit in the stands and wait until halftime is disrespectful to their time and effort. If you truly have a problem with bands at HS football games, then you should write a letter to TSSAA and ask that bands not be allowed to participate. If they've got to be there, let them do their thing. If they are not allowed to perform, don't require them to be there. As a Tyner fan, I feel that we've got a very nice relationship between the band and the team. This partnership only makes the game more enjoyable for everyone involved.
  22. Choo Choo Now that my cats are out of the playoffs, I was thinking about going to the Tyner game Friday night. The 500 fans though makes me worry a little bit. How is your stadium arranged? Do you have many aisle seats? I like to sit on the end of a row. You see, (You're going to think this is silly) I always have a problem knowing how to enter a row. Should I go in facing the field? Or should I have my back to the field? I am a pretty big guy-6'5", 250 lbs+. I used to go down a row facing the field so I could see the game. One night in Knoxville, it hit me that my rear was in front of everyone's nose. I just panicked. I turned the other way, and well that turned out to be just as bad. I think you get the picture. I just don't go to games anymore unless I can sit on the end of a row. What time will I need to get to Tyner to get a good end seat? Does anyone have a suggestion on how I could enter and exit a row? What is the proper and polite way to do this? The last time I went to a UT game, I got there 2 1/2 hours early so I wouldn't have to walk past people. I didn't drink any liquids for 12 hours before the game so I wouldn't have to go to the bathroom. We ended up playing 6 overtimes with Arkansas and I thought my pipes were going to burst. Any advice out there? It's after 11, so I'm ready to hit the sack. I'll check back tomorrow night and see if anyone can help me. Then I'll decide whether to go to the Tyner game or head up to Maryville. I'm 6'5" 260lbs. and have no problem at all in Tyner's stadium. The rows are wide and well spaced and you'll have no trouble getting around. You might want to bring a blanket or pad, since you'll be sitting right on the concrete (there are no aluminum benches), but I think you'll find the home stands very accomodating. Good to know you'll be attending. Have a good time!
