  1. Actually... they had started with a JV program in 73... the Bell Buckle school burned the year before and they finished out the year in Wartrace going in the afternoon while the Wartrace kids went in the morning... the next year (72-73) the two schools were combined to form Cascade and the JV program was started. The present Cascade School building was built in 73. Wartrace High School had a football team and played in the DRVC up until 1956 when the program was discontinued. Bell Buckle never had a football team before Cascade was formed. This is probably more than you wanted to know but it gives us old guys something to think about...
  2. Forrest and Cascade have a long history of good athletic competition. This match-up has the makings of a great High School football contest… two equally matched teams, both undefeated and both with playoff aspirations. Forrest has been challenged twice this year and come out victorious both times. Cascade on the other hand has pretty much controlled all three of it’s contest from start to finish (with the possible exception of the 1st half with Nashville Christian). The home field and the quality opponents are a clear-cut advantage for Forrest. Cascade seems to have a lot of depth with not much drop-off between first and second string… and even third string in most cases. Size and speed are pretty much a wash with both teams having good size and speed. I expect a close game with the winner being determined in the closing seconds.
  3. The Cascade - NCS game was a close contest in the first half. NCS ran out of steam in the second half but they have some gifted play-makers and can hurt you if you let your guard down. Good luck Friday night…
  4. Wartrace High School played Moore Co. and Huntland for years before Cascade became a Wartrace - Bell Buckle combined school. The football rivalry between the schools goes back to the late 1800's... I remember some knock-down-drag-out battles back in the 40's and 50's in the old Duck River Valley Conference... but then everybody isn't as old as I am.
  5. Shelbyville Central get's help... maybe... http://www.t-g.com/story/1117019.html
  6. I’m sure Cascade doesn’t stand much of a chance against DCA. Cascade is pretty banged up after Friday night’s battle with Mt. Pleasant but they’ll show up and play. I wish they had an extra week to get well and rested but they don’t. They may be out-manned but this Cascade team has a lot of Pride and they will give it all they have. I don’t think they will forfeit… they may get beat bad but they’ll show-up and play hard. that's what they do...
  7. 6 1A (Duck River Valley Conference from the 50's & 60's)... I like it... only 6 teams but Unionville/Community in northwestern Bedford Co. comes on board in 2006. http://www.coacht.com/maps/1098790786588_214.cfm
  8. Cascade doesn’t really have a chance in this game… but, I guess they’ll have to play it anyway… just in case. I’m sure all the region 5-A scouts that will be watching Friday night would be real disappointed if the game were called off. Cascade could just forfeit the game. They are in the playoff and that won’t change no matter who wins. It was supposed to be a rebuilding year for Cascade this year with lots of freshmen and sophomores playing first string… but hey… they are 7-2 and are learning the game, on the field. Oh sure, they are young and inexperienced and have a ways to go before they make the “big-time”… like Mt Pleasant, but it will be a good learning experience for Cascade to get to play such a fine team. I know the Champions don’t have much of a chance against the Mighty Mt Pleasant Machine… so, I guess they’ll just have to play this one for PRIDE…
  9. Cascade 28 Collinwood 6 i didn't make it to the game... can anyone tell me how it went down.
  10. Eagleville 13 Cascade 47 A 35 yard pass by the Cascade QB to the corner of the end zone on the second play of the game set the tone for the night. Eagleville muffed the ensuing kick-off and Cascade scored again. The score was 27-0 by the end of the 1st quarter, 40-0 at the half. The reserves got most of the playing in the second half. The better team won… but, that’s not the entire story… Eagleville is not that bad. The name of this game was “turnovers” and from what I can hear that’s been Eagleville’s problem all year. They have moments when their play is exceptional which is often followed by a turnover. Now I don’t know all there is to know about coaching, in fact I don’t know much at all about it… but, I do know that you don’t motivate your players to improve by telling them how sorry they are every time they make a mistake. A "good job" or a pat on the back will do a lot more good than constantly putting them down. Good luck to both teams the rest of the season…

    Cascade Game?

Is there any more info on this unfortunate occurrence? How many players were involved? Do both schools have film of the episode? This could seriously affect Cascade’s chances at a playoff spot depending on TSSAA’s ruling.
  12. Something very similar happened in Shelbyville Sat. night. See link to Shelbyville Times-Gazette story. Neither of these incidents have anything to do with sports. It's more about drugs and alcohol than anything else. http://www.t-g.com//archive/2004_09_01_iss...516941822524940
  13. As is usually the case, this game was won in the trenches. The Hornets have a very good offensive and defensive line. Cascade’s offensive linemen couldn’t keep the Hornets off of the quarterback. It’s very difficult for a passing offense to move the ball down the field when the defensive ends are in the quarterback’s face before the receivers get down field. Not excuses, it was just a matter of size, mostly seniors playing against freshmen and sophomores. Huntland has a good ball team and deserved to win this game. Cascade played hard and their day will come… when they get more experience and size. Good luck to both teams.

    Region 6 Class A

Cascade beat Moore Co. by a field-goal last week and Watertown by a TD the week before. Huntland blew by Lookout Valley 35 - zip in week one and lost to the powerful Wayne Co machine at home last week. This will be a close one and the game to see in 6 1A this Fri. night.
  15. I believe Wayne Co. has the better running backs and Moore Co. has the better line.
  16. Wayne Co. has a very good team, man for man. Ruddle is as good as you say he is. He can run and he can pass. The team that will give them the most trouble in 6A is Moore Co. from what I’ve seen so far. Cascade had 6 starters out of the lineup last night… no excuses, just fact. They played hard and got beat but they didn’t quit.

    Cascade

Cascade’s over-all team speed is probably a little better than it was last year and they have a couple of guys who are as fast as any 1A player in the state. Speed is important as is size but the difference between winning and losing is how you perform on the field. We’ll get the answer to that tonight.

    Ezell-DCA

I don't really have a dog in this fight but I like good High School football and this should be one of the better games this week. If DCA doesn't get in the game from the start it will be a long night for them. Last week, Cascade scored 14 points before DCA ever touched the ball. DCA finally got their selves together in the second quarter and took a 21 - 17 lead at halftime. If they get down by 14 or 21 points against Ezell they'll never recover. DCA will move the ball on the ground against Ezell and will score several points but they probably won't be able to stop Ezell's passing attack. Cascade's young quarterback was able to complete several passes against DCA's secondary. DCA has the athletes and if their secondary can step it up a notch they can control the ball and win this game. Good luck to both teams... it should be a good one.
  19. Coach Michael Staton's letter of apology to the Cascade coaches, players and fans appeared in the Wednesday addition of the Shelbyville Times-Gazette. It's nice to see someone step up and take responsibility for his actions. He is a class act. [Edited by boxman on 10-31-02 6:55A]
  20. Sounds like we are back to where this thread started... Eagleville comes into 6-1A next year; Zion Academy in 2004 and Unionville in 2005 (probably). 6-1A currently has 9 teams, next year there will be 10 and by 2005 there will be 12. That's too many... I like the basketball type proposal, two divisions within a region, sending two teams to sub-state. That reduces the number of playoff teams. A realignment of the 1A regions, that eliminates these long-standing rivalries, will result in a reduced level of interest by everybody involved. This has already happened at many of the 2A, 3A and 4A schools where they have to travel all over the state to play. The general public is not interested in football when there team is playing someone they never heard of before and therefore the students aren't interested either. Many of these schools that were at one time football powerhouses have trouble finding enough players to field a team since they don't play the team from the next town down the road. Lots of 6-1A programs draw more fans of Friday night than their neighbors who play in 3A or 4A. Breaking up the old Duck River Valley Conference teams would be unwise and if anyone has any influence with the TSSAA they need to speak now!!!
  21. Considering the growth that we have experienced in the Middle Tennessee area over the last 5 years, the next 5 years could put most of the current schools in 6-1A into 2A. Not withstanding the Nashville bias of the TSSAA, it looks like several of the original members of the DRVC should remain united in 6-1A, at least for a while... but who known what the TSSAA will do. One thing for sure, we are in for some changes in the next few years. All these new football programs will have to play somewhere.
  22. Eagleville has their football program off to a good start and I assume they will start playing a regular schedule in region 6-1A next season. (I sure someone will tell me if I'm wrong). Unionville already has a nice field and a good Jr-pro program started. I've heard they plan to play a Jr High schedule for a year or so and then JV and then a regular 1A schedule by 2005 or 06. It would make sense for E'ville and U'ville to play in 6-1A because they already play basketball with most of the 6-1A football schools and they are close to most of the schools in the region, except Collinwood and Wayne Co. Assuming none of the current 6-1A schools move up to 2A, which is a big assumption I know, 6-1A would have too many teams and the regions would have to be realigned. One possibility would be move Collinwood and Wayne Co out of 6-1A to the west Tennessee region (not sure what that number is). This new theoretical region would become essentially the same as the old Duck River Valley Conference of the 1950s and 60s. It is interesting how "old things become new and nothing ever changes". Other comments and options (and even come facts) would be beneficial.
  23. What happen to the Cascade that everybody use to schedule for their homecoming game? The easy win; the game you don't have to worry about... I believe it was Huntland's homecoming a couple of weeks ago... the Champs are not that team that you can expect to beat year-in and year-out anymore. Cascade doesn't have much size and they don't have a standout player... and in the early part of the season, they didn't know how to play as a team (case in point Columbia Academy) but they have jelled as a team and that is the secret to their resent success. It is all about attitude... as the Coach says, "expect to win" and you will. GO CHAMPS...
