  1. Ripley and OC....OC needs a win to get in, based on what most think. Ripley athletic as always, and OC is coming in playing pretty well. OC must be consistant on "D", and deal with the speed of Ripley. There needs to be, and SHOULD be a packed house at Rebel Field on THURSDAY night. Hey, I think it is the only game around that night. This is a good Rebel ball club, and I think they will answer the bell Thursday night, and in doing so, punch their ticket for Week 11. GO REBELS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  2. Coach, you are so right, coaching turnover has been the MAJOR PROBLEM at OC. Coach Jackson has come in and done an AMAZING job of turning the attitude around at OC. They EXPECT to win now. And I think that will continue, and the longer he and his staff are here, the better that will get. I have covered OC for 20 years, and seen many coaches in that time, good coaches, struggle in a short tenure, and then they are gone. Some kids that have played 4 years at OC have had 3 different coaches. That WILL not bring success. I am a DIE HARD OC fan, and I want much success for the team. That starts with getting a GOOD coach, as we have now with Coach Jackson, and his staff, and KEEPING THEM here, and letting them build a program. To me, that has been the major problem with OC Football, and I hope that is in the past. You did a great job here, and we wish you nothing but the best in the future, and thanks for your comments.
  3. WOW!! OC played just about a perfect game in the 1st half. On "O" they were very, very good. That is more of what I thought this bunch could do, but I don't think anyone saw them putting up those numbers in the 1st half. over 400 yards in the half. And then there is the "Defense", played WELL! solid game...ALL GAME. OC came into this game with their backs against the wall, and responded, big time. Great win, now they must "turn the page", and get ready for a very good Westview team. OC is at home for the first time in a long time, and will have to play well to take down the Chargers. I think many had real questions coming into the D'burg game, as OC was coming off a hard to take loss to Covington, a game the Rebs should have won, and D'burg was coming in off the upset of the year in the District beating Crockett last week. OC is basically in a 4 week play-off to reach the play-offs, and this was round 1. OC answered the bell this week, in a major way. Now guys, Round 2...............Westview. As always.....GO REBELS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  4. I must say that Sikeston is one of the better all-around teams I have seen in awhile. The Bulldogs are talented at EVERY position. With that said, the TD at the end of the first half was a killer for OC. The passing game looked good, very good. Still lots of work to do for the Rebs, but this game did put OC in a tough early season game, and allows Coach Jackson and his staff to see not only where the team is at, but what needs work. Expect the work to be done this week. Loved the fact this bunch kept fighting. This is a fun team to watch, and will keep getting better. BIG GAME Friday, at home with Crockett Co. GO REBELS!!!!
  5. OC won one of the strangest games I have called in 20 years of radio. The first quarter lasted over an hour, and then the lighting delay, or should I say two. Penalties were really about the only problem for OC. Now...this week, Sikeston brings a very good team to Troy this Friday night. This will be, as Coach Jackson said a good early test for the Rebs. Phipps was SOLID for OC, and his large group of Receivers are all able to make a play. Fair is the real deal. He showed good speed, and I think even better vision. This year's version of Rebels looks to be a FUN team to watch, and even better, appears to EXPECT to win, every time they take the field. Coach Jackson and his staff have done an amazing job of getting things turned around at OC. Next step.....Sikeston. Looking for a 2-0 start! GO REBLES!!!!!!!
  6. So far all games have gone as seeded, #1 GC vs #4 Haywood at 6 Monday, and #2 OC vs #3 Westview at 8. I think we see the 1 and 2 seeds win these games, and that sets up OC vs GC round 3. Should be a great night of basketball Monday. But first, GC/Haywood III, and OC/Westview 4. See you at the games.... GO LADY REBELS!!!!!!!!!
  7. Big win for the Lady Rebels!!! Congrats to OC on getting a huge district win over #1 ranked GC. The Lady Pioneers are indeed the real deal, and so are the Lady Rebs. OC weathered the early storm in this one, able to get thru a somewhat slow start, and then settle in and play their game. Fussell was her normal self, with a BIG triple-double, and Macy Wright just "went off". Wright, I think is maybe the best defensive player I have seen in 20 years of doing radio, and is fun to watch. Pate, Tucker, Grady, Goodman, (who keeps getting better and better) and Hicks all played very well, each hitting big shots, and playing WELL on "D". GC was hampered by A. Reedy getting in foul trouble, anyone knows she DOES make a big difference, but for this night, OC outplayed GC. This is a big regular season win, but that is ALL it is, a regular season win. OC must now refocus on the "'View" this Friday night. This will be tough at Martin, as always. Great job last night OC, now take the next step, a win Friday night at Westview. GO LADY REBELS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  8. CONGRATS to Union City!!!!!! State Champs. Great game, great effort! For a game that was to be the "worst" match-up in years, this turned out to be a GREAT game between two very good teams. Great job UC!
  9. Showtime9, thanks for your post. While I would rather the game be in Troy,(it is a much shorter drive), I look forward to what I think will be a very good game between two good teams. We covered a game at that field several years ago, and after I found it, everything went great. We expect the same this time. I think you will find a large group of OC fans across the way from you Friday night. Looking forward to a good night of football. GO REBELS!!!!!!
  10. OC will make the trip to Memphis, and I would think to J. P. Freeman field to take on Fairley. The Rebs will have to find Marcus Holiday Jr. RB who comes in at 122 yards per game on the ground. But OC has seen it's share of backs with a big average, through the season, The Rebs have faired pretty well against those backs. I guess we will see Friday night, gametime is 7:00. in the city of Elvis. Two 6-4 teams, this one could be a good one. Congrats to Coach Jackson and his team on making the play-offs, and let's get a "W" next week. GO REBELS!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  11. OC has indeed become a team that is a "contender" The Rebs continue to improve on "D", getting several to the ball, holding Covington to around 150 yards total off. and limiting D'burg's Taylor, a very good back to less than a hundred. With the ball, OC can score in so many ways. Haskins is something, and the entire O is a talented group. This team has REALLY improved since the first of the season. Looking back, Fulton Co. was a nice start, to get a W, should have won in Miss., I thought played very well after the 1st quarter vs Crockett Co., beat a pretty good Cape Central team, not a push-over by any means, lost a game against UC that I did not see, but understand was winable, just man-handled Covington, and beat #7 ranked Dyersburg. This has been a very fun season to call thus far, and I think we are FAR from being done. Big game this week with Westview, always a tough bunch. Coach Jackson and his staff have done an amazing job of turning things around in Troy. Three games left at Martin, Gibson Co at home (sr night), and at Ripley. Come out and watch this bunch at Westview, you will enjoy the game!! GO REBELS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  12. Congrats to Gibson Co. and all the Lady Pioneer fans on your State Championship. As I said, when the tournaments started GC seemed to hit another gear. With most of this team returning, Teams will not look forward to seeing this group on their schedule. You did yourselves, and District 13AA, and Region 7AA proud. From OC, Congratulations!!!
  13. Two great teams match up with LA vs GC, but I think GC is the better of the two. Guard play, post play, great coaching, GC has been on another level since the District tournament started. Unless GC has a melt down, which they will not, GC will win it's first State Championship today. Good luck GC!!
  14. GC has hit stride at the right time, "hitting a speed bump"....more like "hitting the wall" GC plays in the 'ship Good luck GC!!!!
  15. In a close one, Westview...... Good luck Lady Chargers!!
  16. I keep stats for OC while doing radio coverage, Chass never shot 50 times in a game, not even close. As for Butler, we all know she is a great player. But she is not a finalist, Fussell is, and of the three that are up, she has the best stat line. All things considered, Fussell should win this, we will see.......
  17. Congrats to Gibson Co. and Westview, two good teams headed to the 'boro from 13AA. While it seems both can make some noise in the state, GC appears to have hit stride at the right time, they are playing very well going in. Good luck to both, bring the gold to West Tenn.
  18. Congrats to OC on a FINE season. Coach Kail and his crew played very well last night, but ran into a Very good Covington team. This group of seniors, Nick Gilliam, Brandon Smith, Brady Boucher, Brandon King, and Jacob Mobbs finish their careers at OC and can know that they were a MAJOR part of putting OC REBEL basketball back where all Rebel fans wanted it to be. OC, under Coach Kail have reasserted themselves in the mix in 13AA. These are Good young men, who will do well in life in whatever they do from here. It has been fun to watch this team play, and again Congrats on a fine season. GO REBELS!!!!!!!!!!!!
  19. Tonight all roads lead to Dyer, these should be two very good games. Game 1 at 6:00, GC vs OC round 3. GC has won both the games between these two this year, by 8 at GC, and in OT at OC, ina game I thought OC should have won. GC has blown most off the court, but I do not see that I do not see that here. Some say GC by 20+, if I were a betting man, I would take that one. OC will have to play VERY well to win this one, and I think they will.....OC in an upset. Game 2 at 7:30, Westview vs Jax North Side. Size of NS vs shooting of da'View. The post play will be key, as NS could give them problems. NS may have no answer for the sound, good shooting Lady Chargers....Westview by 5. Be there!! GO LADY REBELS!!!!!!!!!!
  20. GC over Covington Westview over Fayette Ware OC over Haywood Milan over Northside ???? maybe Westview will get Milan in the semis GC and OC, this one will be interesting....I think OC can match up with GC better than anyone left in the tourny here. Both games have been close, it is REALLY hard to beat a GOOD team 3 times, and OC is a GOOD team, I'll just leave it there for now..... /ph34r.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="ph34r.gif" />
  21. You are right, and while I know I'm not real smart, GC would want Butler or Reedy to take those shots, and Rechis would certainly take the shots for the'View. This was a HARD fought game by two very good teams, and Westview made shots in the end. Chass is the real deal, may be the best girls player I have seen. GO LADY REBELS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  22. Old Timer.....Good to hear from you....Some people just don't get it.
  23. I really don't think Chass shot the ball everytime in the 4th but one or two. But the point is this, you want your best scorer taking the shots when the game is one the line. Had the last second shot gone, no one would be saying anything. As for OT, they just did not fall. If you have seen OC play ALL season, you would know, Chass does take the most shots in most games, that would seem to make sense to me. Hey, when you get a team to coach, and you have a Miss Basketball finalist that is hitting for almost 31 points a game, then feel free to limit her to 5 or 10 shots a game. GO LADY REBELS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Oh...and for the record, OC as a team did not attempt 60 shots..........
  24. Well, it is down to the four alot of people thought it would be, GC vs Milan in the 6:00 game, and the two teams tied for number 6 in the last AP top ten, #3 Westview vs #2 Obion Co. I say Gc in the first one, although it could be closer than alot of people think. OC will get it's second win of the year vs the 'View, unless the Lady Chargers can again slow the game down to a SLOW pace, if that happens, it could go either way. So, what do you think???????????? GO LADY REBELS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! /blink.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="blink.gif" />
  25. Don't read too much into the score.
