Haven't gotten much input on this thread. Trying to finalize my nominations and especially need some names from Division 2

Need some suggestions from Division 2 teams please!

Something just to speculate about. The number of new charter schools in Shelby Co. is changing the landscape of Class A, lowering the potential cutoff. My projection, based on enrollment figures used for this two-year cycle, is that Gibson Co. will be "on the bubble" of possibly moving back to AA in two years. We shall see.

Westwood is ranked 6th with one first place vote. I didn't vote them #1 but have them in my top 5. Talked to Hillcrest coach when they played in a tournament in Martin after Christmas and he told me Westwood was the best Single A in Memphis. That's the only 1st person info I've gotten so I've voted them both weeks. Added Manassas this past week after they blasted BTW. Maybe some frustration after two close losses to them. Longhorns having homecourt in region will certainly help.

You're exactly right! East doesn't have a strong SOS because of playing a national schedule. Not sure why Westwood has gotten more votes than the teams from the other Memphis district but two from Region 8 are likely to get to Murfreesboro. Humboldt may have a shot if they play well in a Sectional home game.

Just wanted you guys to know I voted Manassas this week. Once again no information sent from the Commercial Appeal or any other Memphis AP members and none of them even bothered to vote themselves! The rest of the voters across the state would vote for Dist. 15 teams if encouraged to by media who'd seen them. As stated before, without info from Memphis media we have to depend on CoachT SOS and it's not that high for either Manassas or BTW. That's why the "eye test" is important and we depend on Memphis media for that. SOOOOOO, blame your local media, not the rest of us. We're doing our best.

Westview has officially introduced Matt McConnell as its new head coach. McConnell comes to Martin from a stint as head coach at Waverly.

Well said sir. As a former coach/educator I am all about giving the kids recognition.

As a voter from NW Tn I am somewhat familiar with Manassas & BTW but voters in other parts of the state are dependent on other sources. No one from Memphis media sent us information about Memphis teams and the Strength Rankings here on CoachT were not that high. I recognize the polls can be flawed and titles are won on the floor but they are not meaningless or laughable.

That;s why you must look at the entire body of work.

Did not make an excuse sir, stated a fact. They played horrible, that's pretty transparent without any bias. I am being critical of the team you are implying I follow and support. Actually, I broadcast their games and called the game with Obion Co. As I stated earlier, they went 2/19 on 3 pointers and stood around a lot that night. Give Obion credit for a good game plan as well. I will agree with you that Reagan is not Deja and Zanasha is not Tasia. They are good players but those two seniors that graduated were special. This years team has struggled at times finding their identity without those two to pick them up like the last four years. Crockett is going to be tough and if they win Friday night will be the favorite in the district. Have known Kayla Irvin since she was a youngster in Gleason and she is a rising star in the coaching ranks.

Our business is disseminating information and promoting high school athletics. Polls of all kinds are far from perfect but they get people talking, one way or the other. Yes, championships are won in competition but what's wrong with teams being recognized during the season for their accomplishments?

Everyone is entitled to their opinion but I assure you they are not meaningless to the young people who are recognized for their accomplishments. They serve a purpose just as this website serve its purpose. As far as uninformed voters, we poll voters share information about the teams in our region with the other voters, this is obviously the only way the poll can be legitimate. Will everyone agree with it? Do people agree with national college polls always? It's better than nothing and there is no reason whatsoever to "do away with it."

14 will NOT sweep 13. 13A district and 7A region at UT-Martin. Great to have a large venue for these big games.

We'll just have to agree to disagree on the art of flopping. Have played, coached and broadcast the game for over 50 years. I know what kind of contact it takes for a defender to hit the floor that violently. GC is the best defensive team I've seen and as stated will get my #1 vote on Sunday. They are too good on defense to have to revert to such.
