  1. Didn't refer earlier to taking charges. "Flops" are when contact is minimal, not when defending an attacking offensive player. Can't believe officials still fall for those type of "sell jobs" by defenders.
  2. First the disclaimer. I broadcast Westview as well as the other Weakley Co. teams but my daughter-in-law is an administrator in Gibson Co. & have many friends in the Pioneer faithful. That being said here are my observations: Westview lacks the dribble drive penetration they've had the last four years with Tasia Jones. When the 3's aren't falling you have to create some offense. No one has taken over that role. Think Lady Chargers were a bit leg weary in 2nd half and it showed with long balls being short. Fouls were unbalanced in 1st half but Westview played through it with good bench play and a huge half from PG Zanasha Gadlen and held a good lead anyway. 2nd half fouls were more even. GC depth took its toll in 2nd half with pace of game never changing and Westview unable to create offense or make 3's. GC outscored WV by 21 points at FT line and won by 6. Credit them attacking the basket. One thing I would agree with post above is "flopping." I can't agree with anyone who encourages that on defense. Two come to mind, one on a blockout on the lane on a FT, the other a post move on Reagan Johnson. Not a Physics professor but when a player goes down harder in a side-by-side position than a moving football player does after a tackle it seems pretty obvious the contact is being "sold." This practice can be assessed a technical foul by rule but is rarely done. I vote in the AP poll and will vote Gibson Co. #1 in Class A. They are the best team in any class in West Tennessee.
  3. 12/20 3:00 Jackson SS-Obion Co. 4:30 Greenfield-Humboldt 6:00 Gibson Co-Sikeston 7:30 Dyersburg-Gleason
  4. Summertown is also coming to Westview for a Saturday night date next month. Will have that broadcast. Where did Woods & Long transfer from?
  5. This is what they use in basketball? Interesting concept. Not likely to be considered in Tennessee but I think I like the idea.
  6. This is the system I would like to see. SImilar to football title games, I'd like to see associations represented by crews. Each of the 12 basketball associations select a 3 person crew based on both supervisor evaluations and coaches evaluations. Spread those 12 crews out over the three weeks of D-2, D-1 girls, & D-1 boys, never working teams they've called in regular season. Think officials would be more comfortable and do a better job working with people they are familiar with.
  7. Weakley County is blessed to have three teams vying for a trip to Murfreesboro next week. Best of luck to all of you! All three games will be on the radio tonight. MBA at Greenfield 6:30 pregame on 101.3 Covington at Westview 6:30 pregame on 104.9 Dresden at BT Washington following Tenn & Georgia on 95.1 All games can also be heard on the Thunderbolt Radio App available to download in the App Store
  8. AAA will play the first 4 games then there will be 2 Class A games Wed & 2 Thur. All AA games on Thursday.
  9. After Saturday night's Sectionals everyone going to State will meet Sunday afternoon in Murfreesboro at the Doubletree at 2pm. Usually start drawing brackets about 2:30. Brackets update as they're drawn on TSSAA website. By the way, in case both Greenfield and Dresden make it(we're counting on that ) they must be placed in separate brackets. Draws can get complicated and time consuming so it may be 3:00 or later before we know matchups we're interested in. I can tell you, theoretically if all 3 county teams advance, one Class A will play Wed, the other Thurs. & Westview would play Thurs.
  10. Thank you for the kind words Chewy! I work hard to bring a professional, balanced broadcast. I really enjoy the post season because I get to do a lot more play-by-play. Looking forward to a great game tonight on Star 95.1. Air time is 6:40. Tipoff at 7:00
  11. I'm sorry, a little confused here. I WAS there, broadcasting the game as I stated so that's not Problem #1. Not sure if there was a Problem #2 stated? I never saw three fingers held up though I am not arguing. What I saw was the officials indicate pretty quickly the fouls were on the floor, after the shot. I respect westtnsportsfan's opinion that if contact is made before the shooter can follow through that it could be called a shooting foul. Most I've seen this year the contact was well after the shot and officials gave them 3 shots. Gibson Co. played a good game and had their chances even late. Defense shut Tess out 2nd half. With only one senior, they will be tough next year.
  12. Really enjoyed calling both games last night on Star 95.1 Great high school basketball atmosphere at TCA. The officials actually got both of those calls right, most officials I see throughout the year do not. 3 point shooters are rarely fouled in the "act of shooting" because that is such a bone headed foul and emphasized as a no-no by coaches. What happens most of the time, and was the case on both occasions last night, is a defender "closes out" on a 3 point shooter and hits them after the release. Darby was guilty of that twice, she really needs to dial it down on her close outs or she's going to be in foul trouble at a critical time. Looking forward to the championship game tomorrow.
  13. Girls Quarters next Thursday at higher seed Semifinals Sat 24th at TCA Championship Tue 27th at TCA
  14. I would disagree with the comment about West Tn. being traditionally full of "weak" teams. I am very familiar with the brand of basketball played in the Upper Cumberland, having broadcast high school basketball for nearly 40 years but West Tn is far from weak. No measure of schedule strength is perfect but the Strength + Success here on Coach T is as good as we have. Greenfield has played 13 teams in the Top 25 of their respective classifications this season, Clarkrange has played 10 while Pickett Co. has played only four. I think Tess & Chloe have seen a good level of competition and hope they do get the chance to be a part of the Final 8 in Murfreesboro.
  15. Since no one has started a thread here on the boys side, I will. I need input on boys nominees for each classification for my ballot. Please tell me full names and where they play.
  16. Voting database is now fixed. Poll will move tomorrow afternoon.
  17. I've kind of gotten lost in this thread but the references to a schedule ranking of 61 must refer to Westview. It's much better to look at the Strength + Success side here on CoachT to analyze teams results. But even then, as already pointed out, that does not take out of state games into consideration. There is also no "margin of victory' factored in. That's why as voters in the AP Poll, we look at statistical data as well as 1st hand recommendations from poll members across the state who have seen teams play. There will always be some who disagree with rankings, just look at BCS standings and who gets left out of the NCAA tourney.
  18. Problem with database after teams changed classifications. We will not be able to vote the 1st poll until Wednesday.
  19. My man John Hatler shared with me this morning that WCMT will have Westview-Milan Friday night with live updates from Dresden-Lake County.
  20. Thing that would concern me about Pearl-Cohn is lack of depth. Played only 6 today and the sub only played 5 minutes. That may have contributed to G-P's run in the 4th. My pick is Upperman but I'm not in to calling spreads.
  21. Wondered that myself. Her sub did not do a good job of denying Meadows in the post. That coupled with the Clarkrange press in the 4th was the difference.
  22. Thanks Cruiser. Sounds like you are a So. Greene fan. I also broadcast Dresden so may see the Lady Rebels in semis. Good luck!
  23. No doubt or they wouldn't be there. Was hoping some East Tn. folks who've seen them play could give me some tendencies, like primary defenses and what tempo they like. Also some info on individuals. Know that Qua Hines is very athletic. Coach Haskins compared her to Jamirah Shutes of Haywood who Westview beat in the Sectionals.
  24. Not much of anything being posted about the Lady Highlanders. They face one of my broadcast teams, Westview, Thursday. Any info about the team is appreciated.
