  1. I would agree with you that C. Blair is one of the best coaches in the state and this year should be a really good year for them. They stayed close to McCallie, and if SD is one of the better teams in the district, along with McMinn, they should do well as McCallie didn't have any trouble with either of those teams. The season will be fun to watch but I think that this could be Ooltewah's chance to do better than they have in years.
  2. Max Crabtree-McCallie. If he gets the playing time that he deserves he will score and assist on many this season. Watch for him.
  3. I see that many of you rank Hendersonville pretty high. From what I hear D. Kelly will not play for them this year. Do you think that Hendersonville will fare well even without him?
  4. One of the best teams in the Chattanooga area is the U-16 Chat. Futbol Club team that plays out of the Dupont fields and whose head coach is Chris Zeller or McCallie and GPS middle school fame. If there is anyone in that age group- would be U-17s this coming year the tryouts will be sometime this summer and I will post the tryout times/dates. We are in Memphis and think that we have a great chance of doing well. Play starts tomorrow and we are up to the challenge. Great group of kids and parents. Great coaching. Let me know if you are interested.
  5. As an observer, I know that the level of play for club ball is much higher than on the HS level. I would say that there is a very good chance that the state champions at the u-16 or u-17 level would probably win in a competition with any of the HS state champions. That is freshmen/sophs or sophs/juniors winning over the mix in HS. It could even be at the u-15 level some years. I think that the difference may be that the select teams have coaches that for the most part are "real soccer coachs" vs coaches that may coach multiple sports or just be the math or english teacher that said that they would coach the team. I think that the club teams play together more and for a longer period of time (potentially) which makes a huge difference in matches.
  6. I did not see any of the McMinn games this season other than a few minutes against Hendersonville this weekend. I would expect that McMinn's problems with facing quality teams at the state tournament is that they don't have 11 players to possess the ball with. It sounds like they have many good players but if you look at the schedule they lost all but one of the games where they played quality teams. They did beat Bearden but that was the only team that stands out in my view as being one that could look for a championship potentially. The vast majority of their schedule was filled with teams that don't have much hold back a team that has a handfull of good players. It's easy to get into the rut of playing one on one and beating single players to score. When one of the top teams is involved a team really has trouble scoring unless they attack as a team with numbers. Good goalies will stop most shots that come at them if a single player is attacking. It takes getting the goalie out of position and attacking with two or more players to make good things happen against good teams. It looks great in the paper to have guys score 30+ goals in the season but if they are scored against teams that are not helping to make the team better at the end of the season, what good are they? I don't mean to take anything away from McMinn's top players because scoring that many goals in a season is really something great! Congrats! I think that if McMinn wants to improve I would suggest they add more of the quality teams from the Knoxville and Chattanooga areas to their schedules so that they don't fall into the habit of beating teams with individual play, play that won't work often against teams vying for the state championship. Good luck next year!
  7. I was at the game and have seen many of McCallie's games this season. I would say that MUS is a good team but they are not nearly as good as some of the other teams that McCallie has played this year. McCallie in my view did not play as well as I have seen them play during the season, dispelling the thoughts about McCallie having such a great day, no matter if MUS had an off day or not. The possession was at least 60-70% Mcallie and the quality chances on goal for MUS were minimal. McCallie should have had at least one or two more goals but still are having some problems finishing. From what I've heard Father R. is a good team and will be a challenge but McCallie plays clean doesn't tend to mouth off to the refs and so cards are not the norm for their team. Let's hope for a good clean game and no injuries for either team tonight. May the best team win. thumb
  8. I saw most of the second half and in my opinion your assessment that Westview dominated is an overstatement. Niether team had the best game but I saw shots on goal from CCS and none from Westview. It was a hard played match but it was fairly even from what I saw.
  9. The second 5 min sudden death OT ended in at 0-0 tie between McCallie and Knox Catholic. Both teams played well but both were slowed by their second game in a row that went the distance, 110 minutes. Catholic's keeper stopped one of the PKs so McCallie lost 5-3 as the last PK needn't be taken. The game was well played with probably 60-75% of possession for McCallie. I don't know the shot counts but it seemed to me that McCallie had the edge. McCallie had many good chances to finish but the Catholic keeper played a good game. Congrats to both teams and good luck in Memphis. Maybe it will be an all East final and hopefully someone will score in regulation this time. Both games between the two this year ended up 0-0.
  10. Tonight's games will prove the seedings for the tournament. Anything can and will happen at the state tournament. The slate will be clean at that point. I would say that if you look at the record that many of these teams have played already and that one could make some predictions. It will be fun to see how it all shakes out in the end. Let's hope that we get good weather and not too hot in Memphis! Good luck to all. Keep up the great work RJL294! You've made a great contribution so far this year and I know that at the state tournament you will continue to do so. Have fun, play hard. Don't let anyone get hurt tonight.
  11. I really like both teams. I wish that neither would have to be put out of the tournament. Both seem very competitive and have a lot of heart. I only saw CCS play one time and they almost beat McCallie 'cause they kept the ball out of their net time after time. If they play a full game like they played the last 13 minutes in the McCallie game, I would expect that they will win and do well at state. Good "Grace" to both teams.
  12. One of Catholic's coaches said that they were only changing divisions in football and that in soccer they would stay in the same division, is that possible?
  13. Does that mean Soddy is headed to Memphis or do they still have some games to play? Great job Soddy! Who did the scoring? Assists?
  14. Competitive group that Div II East!!!!! Low scoring and well fought tonight McCallie and ND. The shootout was exciting with all PKs on the goal face but only one stopped. Two of the best goalies in town and one had to go away without the win. Robbie did a great job to keep ND in the game. Great season Robbie and good luck at Select state in a couple of weeks.
  15. I wish that some of you guys would get off of Carlos' back. He is a very good keeper and has kept Grace in a lot of games. I would put him up against any goalie in town and probably in the state and I would expect that he could hold his own. If Grace goes to the tournament he will be one of the big reasons why. Who did the scoring for Grace and CCS?
  16. I'm hoping for an all Chattanooga final for the East division. I think that McCallie and Baylor are probably the favorites. If McCallie can attack as a team, they can get Robbie out of position to score a few. Baylor's offense has been too tought recently and the defense just hasn't given up much. ND had an easy time with King's A. but that was to be expected. I would say Baylor 2 Catholic 0 and McCallie 1 or 2 ND 0. Good luck to all. thumb
  17. Both Baylor and McCallie ended 2-1-1 with 7 points, Baylor wins with the head to head win and goal differential. ND was 3rd with a 2-2-0 record with 6 points. Catholic 4th, 1-1-2 with 5 points, Web 1-3-0 with 3 points and King's academy with 0.
  18. Tonight is the night for the seeding of the Div. II East region. Any last minute thoughts, predictions?
  19. Best wishes to coach Stanton! He has had some great teams come out of Chat. Christian that is for sure. The best good bye that the CCS team could give him is a return trip to the state tournament. If you play with the fire that you had in the last 13+ minutes against McCallie for the rest of the season you will make it there and do well. Go for it!!!!!!! thumb
  20. Well said hoya the teams in the Middle and West that pad the numbers of berths in the state tournament basically just play the state tournament. In the West there are only four teams that played more than three games in the pre-tournament season, and in the Middle there are only six teams that played more than six games. How can the powers that be think that the East who has five teams with winning records and greater than ten games played should get fewer berths than the West with two teams with winning records and four teams with greater than ten games under their belts, and the Middle with six teams with ten or more and only three teams with winning records. I didn't calculate the winning percentage of WvsM, WvsE, and MvsE but from browsing I would expect that the East is far stronger at least this year. I really think that there needs to be a change in the future about how they figure out the number of berths. Does anyone know who to contact about this? Fairness is hard to come by some times.
  21. For the first 66 plus minutes McCallie totally dominated play and really should have put the game out of reach. They just couldn't finish any balls other than a corner kick redirected in by Patrick Johnson. With thirteen minutes and 18 seconds left on the clock( they stopped the game clock on the wall), there was an injury to a CCS player. It took about fifteen minutes to evaluate the kid and clear the field and when the restart came, CCS was rested and ready to play and McCallie didn't dominate so much. McCallie still almost pushed a couple more in but just couldn't get number 2 into the net. I hope that the injury was not serious! Does anyone know how Evan is? McCallie really dominated more and looked better than any game so far this year. Look out Div II!!!!!!!!!!!!
  22. Great win Grace. Good luck in the tournament. I guess Baylor just uses their best stuff against ND and McCallie: 7 goals out of 12 shots vs 0 for 13 against Grace. Carlos truly is a great Goalie, is he planning to play in college? I sure hope so, he'll do well wherever he plays. thumb
  23. I was at the game and wouldn't say that ND is overrated(BIG TIME), in stead I would say that Baylor was very opportunistic and ND is having trouble producing quality chances on the goal. The game easily could have been a 0-0 draw. The shot totals written up in the Chattanoogan were 7-7, very low in my book for a total of three goals. ND didn't have many quality shots on goal and the ones they did have they either just missed or Danny stopped and no one could follow up. Neither team really controlled the ball for any significant period of time, partly due to the narrow field. I think that it may be to ND's advantage to play away from home in the tournament as I think that they have a team that needs some space to control the tempo better. The Catholic/ND game is pivotal for all in the east. I wish ND well for the matchup.
  24. This game is a big one for Div. II East standings. Both teams have quality players. Does anyone have any comments/predictions?
  25. If you would review the record, your number 1 and 2 have been beaten by a team that you have ranked far behind. They have only been beaten by the number one ranked team in the nation for the spring, a team that will probably win their division in the Ga. state tournament, and had one other loss, when they played against an arch rival that hit on 4 of 5 shots. You figure it out.
