  1. You mean tomorrow's big match...postponed to Friday, 5 pm, at John Sevier Middle School.
  2. As for this statement, I was out of position and cannot speak first-hand as to the certainty of the pin. But I do know this official, and trust me, he would not call the pin unless he was sure. And he would definitely take issue if anyone accused him of doing otherwise. He is as knowledgeable of wrestling as any coach or official in the state (he is a former coach and a very good one at that) and above all he is a good, honest man. And even if he was inclined to make a dishonest call, he certainly wouldn't call it in favor of D-B because of where he's from and where his loyalties would lie. So I'm not really sure what you're trying to say here...
  3. Frye pinned Cline with one second left...the ref clearly indicated the pin came before the buzzer. Score was 7-4 Frye when the pin occurred. Not sure what the controversy was at 152. Team score was 69-6 D-B...perhaps a somewhat misleading score as MW forfeited five matches and D-B one.
  4. Yes, it will be Mo West & Crockett at D-B on Tuesday at 6:30, and Science Hill at D-B on Thursday, also at 6:30.
  5. Anybody have results of the Morristown duals tournament from yesterday??
  6. Well, it looks like Greenback is on several Knox-area schedules this season, and that they have weighed 8 wrestlers...I hope this isn't true, that would be terrible! Who exactly told you this??
  7. Tomorrow begins the regular season and Region 1 has been uncharacteristically quiet this fall. I guess between the coaches not wanting to reveal their secrets and all the flamers out there causing trouble and drama, no one wants to post much anymore. Well, for anyone wondering what's been going on, the BMI testing and takedown tournament at Science Hill last week went well, several local teams plus Kingston and Christ School (NC)competed and a good time was had by all. Many kids failed hydration, for some teams more than half, which is kind of unusual. Round 2 BMI testing at Crockett was followed by a duals jamboree-type competition yesterday. Lots of kids showed up to test with I think something like 178 passing. Not sure what percentage passed hydration, but I believe it was much higher than last week. 28 duals matches followed with everyone done around 4:45 despite starting at 10, which was about 30 minutes later than scheduled. Most teams received at least three matches. Judging from these two preseason events, it appears that numbers are looking good and there are many competitive wrestlers in Region 1. Coaches have done a great job training their kids despite only three weeks of practice. Good luck to everyone and I hope we can get some updates and POSITIVE comments on this forum as the season goes on!
  8. Region 1 Chuckey-Doak 12 Cocke Co. 10 Daniel Boone 8 David Crockett 13 Dobyns-Bennett 14 Elizabethton 5 Greeneville 13 Hancock Co. 5 Happy Valley 8 Jefferson Co. 14 Morristown East 11 Morristown West 10 Science Hill 14 Sevier Co. 1 Seymour 14 South Doyle 12 Sullivan East 11 Sullivan South 8 Tennessee High 14 Volunteer 7 West Greene 8 5 of 21 had full lineups at the time of the regional tournament.
  9. I'm sure they didn't...1/2 may be generous....and look at Intermat results in states across the country, including Nebraska, Iowa, Pennsylvania, Ohio, New Jersey, Oklahoma, California, etc....lots and lots of forfeits. Too many forfeits. How is this "growing" the sport? I believe that adding weight classes is a preposterous idea. I say take it back down to 12! And for anyone who's gonna come on here and call me names for saying that, please don't...it's just my opinion and I'm entitled to it.
  10. SO EXPLAIN HOW THEY CAN HAVE THE D-2 INVITATIONAL ON THE STATE DUALS WEEKEND. I WOULD BET THAT IT DOES NOT COUNT AGAINST THEIR 18 DATES EITHER. IS IT PUT ON BY THE TSSAA? THIS MAKE NO SENSE TO ME. THE ANIMAL
  11. Merry Christmas to everybody in Region 1!!! It's been awfully quiet on here...no posts since Dec. 3, and that one was apparently from someone outside of the region (by the way, bwm, South does have wrestling and they are competitive at several weight classes, especially 112 and 119). So how's everybody been doing? Crockett is 10-4 in duals and finished 11th (of 34) at the Indian Classic...
  12. Pretty good day at the Crockett Preseason event... Everybody looked good! Ten teams in attendance, numbers appear to be up overall. Somewhat disappointing that only 80-some wrestlers completed their weight management testing at a mass testing site, though. Anyhoo, programs like West Greene, Chuckey-Doak, and Volunteer appear to be on the rise with probably at least 30 wrestlers each. Sullivan East has some real strong guys. Happy Valley has a brand new program but they also have some really athletic studs and they may challenge in the A/AA ranks. D-B is, well, D-B; their depth is hard to overcome. They looked to be a young but very solid team, maybe the best there today. Hard to tell with Greeneville and Elizabethton (still alive in football) and Boone (still alive in football until last night). Crockett looked pretty good, too. Very competitive matches all day long; everybody got four, and we were done by five. I feel REAL good about that. Thanks to everyone who attended and we hope to see ya next year. 2009-10 season begins next week for some. Good luck to everyone!
  13. No...school is out on Friday in Washington County, but the game is that night.
  14. It's not reflected in the 2009-10 rule book...there is nothing on the NFHS website about it, although I know it was under consideration by them for (I think) next year...
  15. It's actually CHORPEE Sumo...and it's actually pronounced (TROP pee). It's West African (Liberian) and NOBODY ever gets it right!
  16. Which he did...4-0 over Gillespie of Edinboro this morning.
  17. Jonathan and Joshua Kilgore, who until this year attended Morristown West High School, won state championships in New Hampshire's Division II last weekend. Jonathan was the Region 1 189 champ last year. He pinned his way through the New Hampshire 189 bracket (after a first round bye), including a 4 second pin in the second round! Josh, at 171, also got a bye in the first round, then pinned his way to the finals, where he won 9-2. Here's the link: NH Div. II State Tournament I think they now will move on to some kind of three-state grand division.
  18. Oh I watched the third period from my vantage point in the ice cream line...
  19. I had three ice creams myself. One per day. I got my third one during the finals, during the 112-pound match. And I was standing in line with Tyler Pitts, who just moments before had won the 103 championship.
  20. Can someone please post complete team scores??? They are nowhere to be found. TDArtist?? Anyone?????
