  1. Really looks physically dominating doesn't it DougVick. Actually, I was there and I wondered how a team that had gigantic more athletic players was able to lose the rushing game to a smaller slower team. I mean East Hamilton benefited from 4 turnovers and thats all you could win by at home? And at leafs 1 maybe 2 scores were break away punt or kickoff returns. Yes the smaller DB team doubled your RUSHING YARDS and had more penalties as well. Several of the penalties were of the Chattanooga bullcrap brand. I like your attitude about beating Maryville, but you are so far off. So you take off your rose colored glasses and realize East Hamilton was luck to win that game. So using fact over fiction........game over dude......Next
  2. Oh my god this is to easy. So you said East Hamilton dominated DB and blah blah blah. Check your facts rookie. Researched East Hamilton, I know DB and East Hamilton had at least their 2nd best team in years and got lucky to beat an awful DB team at home. Here is the story.....your lies make you look very credit worthy. Oh, before we get to stats, DB has beaten Maryville in a scrimmage and the same year been destroyed in a real game. Once again DB dominated your bigger and more athletic East Hamilton team with smaller less athletic players that use fundamentals. CHATTANOOGA – Dobyns-Bennett’s 34-game regular season winning streak is over courtesy of East Hamilton after the Hurricanes took advantage of four turnovers and 11 penalties to post a 33-21 win over the Indians on Hurricane Hill Friday night. The Tribe outrushed East Hamilton, 258-72 and doubled the Hurricanes in total yardage, but four interceptions led to three scores that East Hamilton used for the victory. “You just can’t turn the ball over four times,†said Dobyns-Bennett coach Graham Clark. “You can’t turn the ball over four time against a good team and East Hamilton is a good football team.†The Hurricanes just landed in Class AAA [5A playoffs] for this season after a Class 4A quarterfinal run and an 11-2 mark last season. East Hamilton featured a pre-season all-state threesome in tight end Bailey Lenoir, offensive lineman Cordell Sands and linebacker Austin Gatewood. That trio didn’t include Vanderbilt commit Tre Herndon, a physical presence with speed to burn at cornerback. Still, the Indians, as they did last week against Farragut, scored on the game’s opening drive. Quarterback Josh Holt ran for 38 yards on 3rd-and-13 and capped the 53-yard march with a tough six-yard run to give D-B a 7-0 advantage. Griffin Reagen picked off a Holt pass later in the quarter and East Hamilton quarterback and Central Arkansas commit Hunter Moore tossed a 17-yard strike to Tony Francois to tie the score. The Indians were primed to score and Holt did so on a 4th down sneak, but the Tribe was flagged for an illegal formation, called for not having enough men on the line of scrimmage. “We were in our heavy set with four guys on one side,†said Clark, who called time-out to discuss the penalty. “They [official] couldn’t count to four on that side.†After the penalty, the Indians field goal attempt was wide and East Hamilton went 80 yards on 11 plays with Matt Milita going the final three for a 14-7 lead. The Indians’ most impressive drive of the night tied the score at 14. Starting at their own nine, Zach Casey went 15 yards and Josh Holt rambled 22 more. Holt then ran for six and 13 before Casey burst 30 yards for the score. However, the ensuing kick-off found its way to Herndon at the five and in a flash, the senior had raced 95 yards to put the ‘Canes up at the half, 21-14. “Last place we were supposed to kick it was to him [Herndon], but we did,†lamented Clark. Dobyns-Bennett once again knotted the score late in the third when Blake Rodgers powered in from eight yards out to cap a 63-yard drive.
  3. So wrong. You are taking one game and making an argument from it. So the 5th best team in your district played Maryville to within 21? Let me tell you that is because Maryville did not want to run up the score, had injuries, or whatever. You claim Ooltewah or East Hamilton (leaving out Cleveland on purpose) could play with Maryville? No. Sorry. So let me tell you about Dobyns Bennett in 2013. DB (for short) was considered way, way down and gave East Hamilton and Ooltewah everything they wanted the entire game and actually should have won one of them. That was DB on a bad year, playing Chattanooga teams away and almost won. So in 2012 DB had one of their best teams in 10 years and Maryville won with ease. Ooltewah and East Hamilton, if you struggle with a bad DB team at your house, you have ZERO chance of beating Maryville. If you would like to bet me, I will take a 2nd mortgage out on my house. No way in heck. End of discussion.
  4. That is a statement that can be made for any school, including Oak Ridge. If every school were to be judged on the basis of a few annoying fans, we would all be half nuts by now. If you don't have some of these guys, you don't have a significant base of fans.
  5. Easily Dobyns Bennett. I am a fan, but I am putting any bias to the side. I have lived in Nashville since 2000 and at some point, I have seen every school that would be in this conversation around here. I have also seen every Knoxville area school, Chattanooga area schools, Henry Co, etc. A bad opponent and a low turnout for DB would be 6,000. 6,000 would be a record for most schools. Some of the big games draw 12,000 - 15,000. DB fans travel in amazing numbers. In the 2012 quarterfinal versus Maryville, DB no doubt had 50% of the fans there, even taking over a huge chunk out of the Maryville home side. I would estimate that game at 8,000-9,000. I will note that Maryville winning so much, has hurt their overall turnout.
  6. That sucks that they gave short notice. But actually good for Jeff County, because Elizabethton would have cleaned up in that scrimmage. Well maybe not good, because Jeff County getting beat in a scrimmage could of helped them during the season.
  7. Congrats to Science Hill on getting the monkey off their back. But don't think for one second that DB will not be on a mission to win again next year and every year after. As to Carter and the DB band director.....What are 2 grown men doing acting like this. So I heard Cook was yelling and thats no good, but the instant anyone touches him...well that can be assault. Not in my book, but by the law it is. I think both people involved should have to write a public apology. I mean our tax dollars are paying for them to act like babies in public? In front of the minds we are trying to shape. I say both of them owe an apology.
  8. This game is obviously important, but this year feels like much less hype. Both teams are down from last year. Both teams have losses, last year both were undefeated to this point. Both teams dominated their first 9 regular season games (minus that 2012 Betsy vs SH game which was a bit close towards the end). I think there will be a huge crowd, but I doubt it will be like last year. One way to tell though.....last year at one point the baseball stadium was about 95% full, I had never seen that. Either way, this game should be close.
  9. Regarding the "he was down play"....I just saw the play on the last drive. I watched it 10 or more times in a row. He was not down. It was close, but the DB drive was legit. One thing I did see time and time again......Tennessee High did not tackle and or wrap up well. More than once I saw a DB ball carrier advance well beyond what he should have. Several snaps you can see TN High players quit running to the ball because they ASSUME their team has made the tackle.
  10. Cap1, To say DB gets good calls by the refs at home is hilarious. Nobody in the tri-cities likes DB and most every ref is an alum from another high school. DB does better on penalties when they are playing away from the Tri Cities. Stats for the game. TN High benefits from 2 DB turnovers. DB had double the penalty yards. The late hit on the TN High QB was not a good call and it was at a crucial time. Also, Mitchell had one catch and let the game winning TD for DB go by him. TN High did not play good enough to win. DB gave them 2 turnovers and had key players out. DB still won. Hard facts don't lie, but you can cry all you like, it is your right. First Downs: THS 15, D-B 20; Rushes-Yards: THS 38-206, D-B 43-306; Passing Yards: THS 179, D-B 188; Comp.-Att.-Int.: THS 6-10-0, D-B 15-21-1; Fumbles-Lost: THS 1-0, D-B 2-1; Penalties-Yards: THS 5-36, D-B 8-84; Punts-Average: THS 3-35, D-B 1-33
  11. The series record is 12-3 in favor of Dobyns Bennett
  12. I watched the entire game along with a few buddies. We had it on a smart TV via the website BA had. I will say up front that I went to DB, one of my buddies is from SH, another from Greeneville, and one from here (Nashville). What we all saw was a team in BA that looked like freshman in college beating the heck out of a high school team in every aspect. Even with McGue, BA jumped out and dominated. Mcgue maybe could have accounted for 1 score late in the game against 2nd string. I saw SH offense playing um... how else do you put it ....scared. People act like it is such a strange thing that so many players dropped like flies for SH, but there is a reason....and it was because BA was knocking the heck out of people. SH did not mysteriously have record numbers of injuries, and no the QB would not have made a difference. 6 of 8 writers picked SH to win and many thought SH would win by more than one score. I live in Nashville, I love upper east TN, but in general and epcially the private schools football is on another level. BA was 2-3 coming in tonight. And to show I am not a DB homer, I will say that probably the same thing would have happened to DB this year (though DB would score twice, ha ha kidding). The perception of how good team a good team in upper east TN versus a private or even an above average public school is, is never quite understood by 95% of the locals. This is another reason that state polls often put DB and Science Hill too high. Greeneville is a smaller school and they have been an exception. The best big school teams out of upper east TN were DB in 98, 2000, and 2002. THey beat a nationally ranked MBA at MBA and lost to teams in the semis by a close score that went on to win it all. The tri-cities right now is way down compared to middle TN. THe reasons why, will net you many answers. Myself, I see bigger and faster athletes arounf middle TN. I don't know why, it is just the way it is. BA was private and can entice the best athletes to come there, but public schools around here are generally bigger and stronger as well. Some say middle has better coaching, or that the kids attend more camps....I don't know. And before you say Maryville or Greeneville, I am speaking of the tri-cities only. And TN high was like almost 40 years ago, so zip it. And all of the other schools around the tri-cities that like to say DB has a short playoff life, the reason is because DB has to go outside of the local area sometimes in the first round. No school in the tri cities has more wins than DB against schools from outside the tri cities. I have done the reseasrch. Oh your school won two rounds and you played 2 schools from around here? Congrats, it means nothing. Our score board should be how many wins the tri cities has versus the rest of the state.
  13. Pittman went out of the game in the 1st. DB played the whole game without their starter as well. DB had so many chances to score and could not capitalize.
  14. Science Hill's QB is out he is hurt. However, make no mistake BA is in absolute control. I am watching live video. BA owns the line. Science Hills backs are hesitating and not running hard, as if they are anticipating the hit. BA on the field just looks imposing. I think the 2-3 record of BA has deceived local writers. BA lost to ST X ohio the #24 team in the USA, MBA who is undefeated, and a very good Father Ryan team. It is 31-0 BA at half
  15. Horned owl....It is 3-0 Ooltewah in early 2nd. Also you can listen here http://wtfm.com/x/ Let me know if that works
  16. I know many sports writers are picking Science Hill. I know tri cities football and I know Nashville area football. BA will win and probably by 14 or more. If Science Hill wins I will eat crow. I hope Science Hill pulls an upset.
  17. Alumn, Your post makes little since. If people did indeed make race an issue, it would make no sense. I have seen the team pictures for Crockett and Science Hill. The percentage of minorities is the same. One player (a basketball player) saying Crockett got what they deserved is not everyone. Also, there is always some form of trash talk and players/cooaches can't control what fans say or tweet. I highly doubt that any player made the remarks you claim, but I would not put it past a fan. However all that little twitter/or whatever crap you are claiming does not matter. Because what showed on the field is what coach Carter did. No excuse. And Carter is the one that absolutely cried and threw a ###### fit at the jamboree when DB was going to go for 2 and take an 8-7 lead. Clark gave up on that and just kicked an extra point. Alumn, some of your points might be valid, but what showed on the field is what counts. Show some class
  18. DB is 8 and 4 against Farragut since 1979. 6 and 2 in the regular season and 2 and 2 in the playoffs. Playoffs were 94,95,2000, and 2007. DB won 94 and 2000
  19. I am not a fan of a track around a field. It just pushes the fans back away from the action.
  20. I agree as to part and disagree with some. Why can't you have the best of both with a baseball field and football field. They only overlap the endzone and it is all field turf anyways. Seasons don't run into each other anyways. So that is a non argument. As to J Fred's visitor side, it could use some updating, but so could alot of high school stadiums and those changes are coming. Regardless, they are doing something right because DB gets the biggest crowds in the state.
  21. Not now, but someday this open enrollment will be an issue with the TSSAA.
  22. Best can mean many things. Best crowd, best actual facility, or some may take it as best team. I offer you J Fred Johnson Stadium in Kingsport. DB (Dobyns Bennett) plays there. It is a very old stadium with the old style tunnels within, not just a metal bleacher. It is not the newest, but DB does draw the largest attendance on average every year. The best games bring 14,000. The band plays a part in the atmosphere as they are larger then UT's band with about 400 members. A great place to watch a game and getting ready for an expansion. J Fred Easily brings the most people out, seen all the major stadiums, been to all the big games across the state. Although not the most modern, when you have that many people it is always fun.
  23. Also, DB was extra excited to be playing this game and Maryville could have been of the mindset of; been there done that.
