  1. Cocke County got thumped by 41 tonight by Farragut at the Chop House Classic by a 70-29 score. Cocke County scored 12-4-6-7 for their total of 29. The Fighting Cocks had 19 turnovers (11 in the 2nd period) and only 24 rebounds.
  2. Cocke County defeated Rutledge 52-44 on Monday. Held an 11-point edge at halftime and saw the Lady Pioneers trim the lead to one on two occasions before pulling through. Cocke County then beat Farragut today in the Chop House Classic 58-50. The Lady Red got their three scorers (Lewis, Depew and Buda) in double digits together for the first time this season. Didn't see it mentioned, but Karns beat Jefferson County by 5 in OT in Monday's games in the Chop House Classic. As a result, Cocke County plays Karns at 3:30 p.m. for a trip to Saturday evening's championship. Jefferson County will meet Farragut for breakfast muffins and basketball after the early morning sales at 9 am on Friday. The other side of the bracket has Knox Central on the winners side awaiting the winner of Dobyns Bennett and Sevier County.
  3. Loudon's asst coach has a son who was involved in a bad auto accident at Maryville College. http://www.wbir.com/news/local/story.aspx?storyid=51510
  4. Farragut pummeled Cocke County by around 40
  5. Cocke County hammered Rutledge by 20 tonight, 79-59. McBee had early foul trouble, but not sure it would've mattered.
  6. Cocke County defeated Sullivan Central 78-74 on Friday. Cocke County went 12-deep, pressed the entire game and went up-tempo on offense. They play Rutledge on Monday night.
  7. If the Bracket is like the girls... Cocke County/Farragut on Tuesday at 5:30 DB/Loudon on Tuesday at 8 The other two games would be on Monday... Top half losers would play at 1030 on Friday Bottom half losers at 1:30 on Friday Top half winners at 4:30 Bottom half winners 7:30 on Friday 7th Place - 10:30 AM on Saturday 5th Place - 1:30 PM on Saturday 3rd Place - 4:30 on Saturday 1st Place - 7:30 on Saturday
  8. I don't really think so. Looked like a couple of .500 level ball clubs tonight.
  9. Thats an impressive win over South Greene for the Lady Chiefs. South Greene is very solid, despite being a AA team. Combine that with a good start and scrimmage over S. South (has two D-1 prospects) and perhaps they are putting it together from the get-go? Cocke County lost tonight 53-50 to Sullivan Central. Depew had 19 points and 10 boards for Cocke County, but the Lady Red didnt have much else going on the offensive end. Very disjointed and didnt get many good looks at the basket. The outside shooting wasn't very good. CC hit only one three and that was in the final 5 seconds of the game. CC allowed too many points in the paint and too many easy layups. The presence of a 6-1 senior (Bryant) really showed up. The lack of depth also showed. Used a 7-player rotation and the 2 players outside of the starting five really have no varsity experience.
  10. Not a math major, either. But its impossible...but that was the point. Who would've thought a five-way 4-6 tie for second was possible...?
  11. Tied up indeed, Ray. Not with finding a coach - thankfully - That would be a tough sell.. Not to mention, I thought someone else already started the thread. Anyways - just a few thoughts on the overall conference look. Greeneville is probably a top again. I think they take a small step back, while the rest of the teams take a small step forward. Every team has its strengths, but each team also has glaring weaknesses - or question marks. I think Greeneville has question marks, while the rest of the league has either a significant lack of experience or a lack of depth at key positions. So (for fun) Greeneville finishes 8-2 and a five-way tie for second at 6-4.
  12. Everyone seems to think that Greeneville will be a solid #1, with Cocke County and Morristown West fighting for second and third.
  13. Cocke County is also in the tournament. They open play on the 20th with Farragut. Not seen a bracket or any other information, however.
  14. Interesting race in the conference this year. Still see Greeneville over everyone, though. Lady Devils still have Dickson, after losing Deans and Carter at the point. Not sure if McIntyre is still there (believe she should be a senior), but she played well last year and could run the point. Every other team seems to be evenly matched, with their strengths and weaknesses. East has a lot of pure athletic talent returning. With the rotation they used, it enabled them to get a lot of experience. West is young, but they were playing a lot of those girls near the end of the season due to injury. West has a ton of speed with that youth as boxout pointed out. Jefferson County is somewhat young after losing only Chambers, but talented. They have Haley Nelson back at PG and Kyle and Huff's younger sisters up this year. Cocke County has a solid starting five, but not much depth outside those five. One senior on their team, and she doesn't play much/any. They have a pretty solid, good-looking freshman class, but those girls may not be able to help early on. If Cherokee is going to do anything. This is their season with Avery, Price, Ewing all being seniors.
  15. Greeneville is a 3A playing up to 4A. I dont think Greeneville would drop down due to rivalry/gate reasons. I think they'd get a much better gate playing long established foes like Morristown East, Morristown West, Cherokee, Cocke County, etc....than dropping down to 3A and playing Rutledge, Seymour, Gibbs, Carter, etc.
  16. East offense vs CC offense = push. Neither team scores or moves the ball with great consistency. East defense vs. CC defense = Advantage East. CC's defense may be the cure East needs. CC has given up 1980 yards and 1410 on the ground (235.0 a game). CC has given up 300+ yards of rushing twice this season as well. CC's defense is without Brent Allen (shouder). His loss will represent the 7th CCHS secondary in as many weeks. They are now without their starting free safety (Austin Graham), and both corners (Drew Crawford - moved to QB, and Allen). Their strong safety (Doug Anderson) is hobbled by a high ankle sprain. Linebacker Jessy Burgess didnt play the second half last week due to discipline. Not sure how much he'll play this week. Then the CC offense is out their starting backfield (QB Jake Crawford - broken leg and Graham...starting H-back Chucki Hembree has saw his offensive snaps dwindle each week). Add in all the off-the-field soap opera issues surrounding this team and it may not be pretty. East should win this one by 2-plus touchdowns. I would say more, but their offensive woes prevent me from doing so. However, turnovers and field position may play big roles in the game.
  17. This one should go to the Canes, but it could be ugly. Cocke County has too many injuries, not enough offense or defense and too many off the field distractions to win. There's a lot of unrest in the Fighting Cocks camp at the moment. East has a lot of injuries and not a lot of offense, but they do have their defense going for them. Its just amazing that this Cocke County team can't run the ball or stop the run with any success with the big personnel they have up front on both sides of the ball. Many blame that on the zone blocking offensive scheme and the 4-3 defensive scheme.
  18. You can elect to play up, but you must petition the TSSAA to play down. I'm sure it was competition. That was back in the midst of their long, long losing streak.
  19. David Crockett is already at 5A enrollment. They petitioned the TSSAA to let them remain at the 4A level back at the reclassification in fall of 2004.
  20. West. Feel that with injuries and dismissals (Dockery), East is now an average football squad.
  21. Neither of these teams have played particularly well, but the winner will take 3rd place by a full game in the conference and likely cement themselves into the playoffs. The way Region 2-4A is going, this winner is in first place by a full-game over the other and along with the Boone/Cocke County and Volunteer/Greeneville winners. All four of those teams are 1-1. Crockett and Cherokee are battling for 7th, as both are 0-2. West and East have played Crockett and Cherokee and still have the other five teams to play. So...that said, this conference is still anyone's and virtually everyone controls their own destiny.
  22. No idea on the JC #8. Someone said he was flown out, but that could be rumor mill. Preliminary information on Jake Crawford (CCHS QB) is a broken leg. As for television, I'm not sure it was as fully televised as most folks thought it would be. Most people assumed it would be play-by-play, but the television crew was on the sidelines. It'll be on Charter Mainstreet on local access tv (the channel that does all the coaches shows)
  23. Here's a question I've been asking some folks... Most memorable game in this series? The series is a bit lopsided, but there have been some good games in the series. The 1982 game was a big one that CCHS won 14-12. Other big CCHS wins were in 1996 when they defeated Jefferson County in their state runner-up year and a 1998 see-saw affair.
  24. Lots of off-the-field distractions here in Cocke Vegas lately.
