  1. Ridgeway was clearly the better team last Friday...hats off. Now, go out to Brentwood-Ravenwood, beat the raptors, and represent the 7-5A and 8-5A schools in style. Go Roadrunners!
  2. I have only one word about South Panola: Machine. SP is definitely a better team than Germantown--no questions about it. Devils, time to regroup and prepare for next week's action.
  3. Welcome! Enjoy your stay in the city by taking advantage of several unique experiences. The Germantown Festival, which occurs on Saturday and Sunday at CO Franklin Park (1 block east of the high school), offers a wide variety of vendors (400+), activities for the kids, and entertainment (Racing of the Weenies, stage performances). If you hanker for barbeque, then you MUST eat at the Germantown Commissary, located across the street from Germantown United Methodist Church on S. Germantown Road. I pray the Red Devils have regrouped, and will provide SP with decent competition.
  4. I'm here. I don't have much confidence in the football team, right now. They haven't performed consistently since last year in the playoffs (against Houston, NOT Franklin). However, I'll still be there to cheer the team on to an upset.
  5. CRAPPY decision to not punt with only 17 seconds left. Not believing that.
  6. Not that surprised by Whitehaven's win...that's why I didn't make a prediction this week. Well, congratulations to them, but as for us, there's a 95% chance South Panola rapes us on our home field next week. That'll be just great. Here's to another rocky season (basically, the exact same start as last year)!
  7. JCM to the title game againt Maryville--called it first!
  8. In the last eleven years Germantown and Houston have a combined total of 6 state titles. Germantown's 1999 state championship team had a 25-0 record, and was deemed the consensus national champions. Ridgeway has won titles, also, but in a different division (A/AA). I'd say the region is competitive.
  9. Alright, Germantown won, but not in a convincing manner, like many thought would happen. Germantown came out strong in the first quarter, but JCM tightened on the defense, shutting Gtown out in the second half. My assessment: Germantown: solid defense; offense is extremely shaky; special teams need improvement JCM: solid defense; offense needs work; special teams better than Germantown Overall, Germantown is lucky not to have lost the game. JCM is a solid opponent and a much better non-region game than Bartlett or Central(not a smack, but come on...cough Houston cough...cough Collierville cough....). I am looking for JCM to do damage in 4A. JCM fans, besides the outcome, how was your experience at Germantown. Did you go to the Commissary for dinner? If not, you should have.
  10. Yay for the Warriors! I'm not so sure about the Devils' chances against our out-of-stater, however.
  11. Gtown by 10 D E D E V D E V I D E V I L D E V I L S
  12. Smack down on Collierville, Houston, Whitehaven and, as of late, White Station! Anyway, I think Charlie White, the Gtown coach, made a wise decision when he scheduled home and home series with both JCM and South Panola. This increase in SOS should aid Germantown in semi-final action (given they reach the semis)for the 2005 and 2006 seasons.
  13. 2. Olive Branch 1. Melrose (FYI, OM is on the Melrose's helmets) *Only off by one!* HUAH.
  14. 4. West Memphis (AR) 3. Germantown Ok, so that leaves Olive Branch, Melrose, East, and Briarcrest...
  15. 1. Melrose 2. Olive Branch 3. Germantown 4. East Bank on it! Come on, Devils, let's win that 5A title game! By the way, everyone in the Memphis area should try to come to the South Panola v. Germantown game. We must show those Mississippians what TN football is all about--SMASHMOUTH!
  16. I know that Armbruster graduated from Bartlett and thus wanted to coach there. From what I've heard, Austin left because Mr. Aitken gave him a better class schedule...shifts in the teaching assignments (Harris). But the new O and D coordinators seem promising...we'll see. By the way, we're reviving our alumni association. If y'all are interested in joining, I'll send you the form on facebook. Don't expect the form to come right away.
  17. Hey, TD, you won't flippin' believe what team is coming to town on the 9th...South Panola! Coach White scheduled a home and home for with the SP coach down in Batesville, MS. Lord, they were ranked either 7th or 9th in the country at season's end in 2004. Crazy.
  18. ONCE AGAIN....South SC rules the night!
  19. Ridgeway, like the optimism...seems like you would want Germantown to beat SP in order to increase the strength of the area's football and to better the reputation for TN football as a whole.
  20. ***Disclaimer: not insulting any private school in any way (e.g. no insinuation of recruiting)---so don't go there*** Public schools in TN have consistently made names for themselves despite poor funding...5A gets my vote (namely Riverdale, DB, Gallatin, Germantown, Brentwood, although at different times). P.S. I will not discuss funding for public schools---I refuse to start an argument. If you disagree with me, and you are a plus member, try this: click "message boards" at the top of this page and scroll down to the discussion forums...have fun!!!
  21. Germantown v. JCM at Gtown should be a quality season opener.
  22. 1. Riverdale (FSU similarity) 2. Germantown (semi-UGA look) 3. Franklin 4. CBHS 5. MUS
  23. In order: Germantown Houston Whitehaven Collierville
  24. Okay, I've heard different versions of the story. First off, let's establish the history of the rivalry: Germantown v. MUS, a series that was played through the 1997 or 1998 school year, was called the "Poplar Pike Bowl." To date, MUS leads the series. Some say that the coaches jointly decided to stop scheduling the game after the public-private split in the mid-90s. However, others will tell you that Ken Netherland was tired of scheduling high-risk, unnecessary games. Would love to see MUS v. Gtown; however, I am satisfied with JCM and South Panola--we should have a much higher strength of schedule this year than we have had in many, many years.
