  1. As for Webb, I would be shocked if they go D1AAA. Most likely they'll stay in D2AA. Will schools have a choice or will its' D2 classification be based on enrollment numbers?
  2. You're right, Catholic doesn't offer "financial aid" to the athletes. Instead they offer "grants" which accomplish the same thing. Catholic is not the only private school in the public classification that does this.
  3. To be more clear... I have heard that the TSSAA was going to combine DII AA and AAA in football. DII A was not to be included. So it may be that they are going back to a A AA structure with AA being the current AA and AAA combined. Has the TSSAA ever restructured during a 4-year cycle? I know last year began a new 4-year classification cycle. Some people have said that they are considering doing this after this season.
  4. I've recently been hearing talk about the TSSAA combining all DII schools in football. They currently compete in one classification in every sport except football now. My question is... how soon could the TSSAA make this change?
  5. Walden "banked in" a 3 and kept a straight face! Luck of the Irish!!!
  6. Cherries... you're on the money, it happened yesterday. It will be out very soon!
  7. Hey "Coach" why don't you have a look at this story. ND is serious about Harrison Smith. http://story.scout.com/a.z?s=109&p=2&c=476...2%2f476180.html
  8. Was there a penalty on the fake punt? I thought the official signaled procedure on ravenwood???
  9. One key to this game... I was at the LA Catholic game last week and the Jones-LaRue kid got injured. Is he okay? Did he play last night? This kid can really play.
  10. I'm hearing that #2 (Vann) is out for Catholic. Webb has everybody. Two kids have been mentioned previously as being injured for Webb. I'm hearing there's nothing to it. It's a rivalry week and a lot of wild things are being said! Should be a great game!
  11. I have not seen ECS play but I've seen Webb play a few times this year. Webb is tough. Loaded with Seniors. This should be their year. They will be rebuilding for the next two years or so. Webb plays ECS on Oct. 28th @ ECS. As for the injuries reported elsewhere, untrue. I know for a fact both of those kids are not injured. It's a big rivalry week with Catholic and a lot of wild things are being said. However, Catholic will be without a starting RB/DB for this week's game and maybe more.
  12. I hear that Catholic may be without one of the RBs... #2. He dislocated his shoulder against AC. Probably a bigger loss on Defense since #22 is man among boys as their go-to RB. This kid can really play!
  13. MARYVILLE... blah, blah. blah. Smith's display of poor class is a fact. I saw it with my own eyes and have now heard, although can't confirm, that he and Watts didn't even attend the team meeting right after the game. What's up with that? Sounds like coach allows this type of behavior. What kind of message does this send? It's okay to be a self-centered, all about me and not about the TEAM player. That's what! It's a credit to Webb that somehow they can play probably 25 guys the entire game and still beat a 4A school like they did last night. They out-worked, out-hustled, out-hit and out-played Powell. Webb played TEAM football and were in much better condition. You would think that by the 4th quarter Powell would take control with their depth. Not so, Webb must be in terrific shape. Whoever is in charge of their training deserves a ton of credit for the win last night. One more thing, Webb's team speed on D is most impressive!
  14. That display I saw Lee Smith put on at the end of the game showed me the type of person he must be. It's all about him and not the TEAM! I wondered out loud to a fellow coach I attended the game with as to why he was the only player for Powell who wore white socks all the way up to his knees and had his shoes taped almost completely white as well. Nobody else on the team was dressed this way. It's called a UNIFORM for a reason. Could it be he wanted to stand out and draw attention to himself? This became clearer as the game wore on. He was always the last one on or off the field... by himself, to be noticed I'm sure. It wasn't until the end of the game that it was crystal clear to me... instead of going through the line and shaking the hand of his opponent, he remained on his sideline on one knee after removing his jersey. Rarely looking up, he did what no other Powell player did... refused to shake hands. Is this a lack of class -or- an "all about me attitude"? Probably both in my opinion. I'm sure there will be plenty of Powell supporters who come on here and defend his behavior because I don't "know" the kid. Blah, blah, blah... his actions speak louder than words to me.
  15. Bald Rooster, just keep on thinking the Wing T is a lateral offense... the Trap & Belly will go all night long!
  16. Thanks Jimbo, what about my original question. Can a fumble be advance by anyone other than the fumbling player? You also cited a specific rule, is the rulebook online somewhere?
  17. I know in the NFL with less than 2 minutes to go in a half the only player who is allowed to advance a fumble is the player who fumbled the ball. If any other offensive player recovers the ball it is blown dead at that spot. What about high school? Is there a similar rule in this situation? I can't seem to find the official TSSAA rulebook anywhere on line. Thanks
  18. I was there last night to watch the 12 yr old Central team roll up over 50 points. Incredible display of talent. These guys are really good and are only going to get better as the season goes on. Did any of you folks check 'em out? What did you think?
  19. If you folks want to see the best youth football team at any age you need to check out the 12 yr old Central Bobcats Jr. Midget team tonight. They'll be playing at 6:15 tonight. Last week they whipped Pilot (last year's undefeated league champ) up and down the field only to tie because of turnovers. This team is really good, check them out and let me know what you think.
  20. AERoadrunners, lol... the man's company name is on those jerseys. How do you think it got on there?
  21. Let's talk about Mark Williamson's Junior midget Bobcat team. After his team got beaten by Pilot twice last year he vowed to put together a team that could compete with Pilot. So what does he do? He goes out and gets Halls, another team beaten twice last year by Pilot, and somehow convinces the parents and coaches of their top kids to come play for him. He also recruits 3 kids from CCYSP to join him as well. 2 of the 3 are playing while the third moved to Nashville. What's wrong with this? NOTHING! I'd be willing to bet that ALL teams recruit to some degree. I commend him for putting together one of the strongest teams I've ever seen in my many years. I saw the Central vs. Pilot game this past Monday night. Williamson's team is head and shoulders better than Pilot. This is the same Pilot team that went undefeated last year to win the PeeWee championship and did so by beating Halls and Central twice to do it. The game ended in a tie but you can ask anyone, Central whipped them up and down the field!
  22. Hey Panther, I did see the game and Pilot didn't win the game. It was a 8-8 tie. Looked to me like they were very fortunate to come away with the tie. Also, FWIW... someone was telling me that this Pilot team has had the same players for the past 3 years unlike some of the other ones. Hentral looked very good. Great skill players and VERY strong line play allowed them to control the game. 4 lost turnovers was the difference. Each team seemed to have some players injured, not sure how key they were. I didn't see the Hentral TD but I did see the Pilot score as time expired in the first half. A quick hitch to the WR who made a nice fake inside and then beat two defenders and dove to the pylon for the score. Second half was scoreless as both defenses took control. I'd say it's very possible that these two teams will meet again in the playoffs.
  23. Did anybody happen to see the Pilot Jr. Midgets? I believe they were supposed to play Gibbs out at Webb. I've heard they're a little down this year and have some key players out.
