  1. On an interesting side note, 2 intrepid Brentwood Bruin fans who were sick of wrestling match cancellations over 1 inch of snow, braved the elements and ventured north to watch the Iowa Hawkeyes wrestle the Ohio State Buckeyes on Saturday at Carver Hawkeye arena. All kidding aside, while husband Phil was prepping for his colonoscopy, Kathy Thomas(Blake Thomas's mom, former Brentwood State Champ, Fargo All American, and UTC wrestler) and yours truly extended our Cedar Rapids bidness trip an extra day and caught the Hawkeyes beat the Buckeyes like red headed step children. Quite an experience watching 9,000 fans watch a dual match. By the way, when we got up Friday morning it was 19 degrees BELOW zero with a winchill of minus 30. There was also 2 feet of snow on the ground. Did they cancel school? NO - just delayed 2 hours so the oil in the bus engines would thaw. Its nice to be back in balmy 40 degree weather.
  2. I have been honored with greatness by greatness himself..... Sorry you guys aren't gonna make it. Phil Thomas and I want to introduce you to one of our favorite watering holes so I'll guess we'll do it during the TSSAA Rodeo Tournament.. I mean wrestling tournament in February!!!!
  3. Coach Blair, this message is wrong on some many levels: 1. First of all you are confused about what BCB is asking for. He is not asking for weight for his favorite Irish lad but for He Himself! Unbeknownst to you, there is a scheduled preliminary exhibition "grudge" match between BCB better known as Bear Cat Brown - The Irish Crippler and Coach Otis Coffey - Chocolate Caffeinated Thunder. This event came out of an episode several years ago when your crack tournament operations team, always on top of current events, had BCB surveilled as he entered the premises. He has never gotten over the strip and cavity search that was conducted by Coach Coffey looking for any video evidence of Blake Thomas matches. Tee or Jack(can't remember which one) told me they couldn't understand a thing he was yelling at mat side because his voice was in falsetto. For your clarificaton, this also explains why Coach Coffey has been in the weight room working on his signature move- The standing backflip into a piledriver followed by a reverse taser. Its probably a good thing practice has been cancelled for the past 3 days - that freshmen heavyweight that's been helping Chocolate Thunder with the move looks like he could play the cop scene in the Hangover. Give him as much weight as he wants - he's going to need it. 2. Second - Singlets - BCB - you never got back to me on what singlet you're going to wear. Chocolate Thunder has a really cool Sponge Bob Square Pants singlet with a built in ammmo belt. 3. Length of periods - I had a hard time getting P.A. Bowler to authorize this and I couldn't find Ruffalo so I got the next best(worst) attorney/referree to help us out on the rules: Jonathan Williams. Jonathan, and I agreed that we're going 3 30 second periods with 5 minute rest periods between periods in order to limit liability concerns. Now that this it out the way, i need to address this issue of pictures of me. I don't understand why all of this discussion about pictures of me. Somebody likes them. I was banned from the Father Ryan tournament last week by the Irish wrestling dads. They were tired of the text bills their Irish mommies were incurring ringin me up all of the time. Remember - bald is beautiful baby. Finally, Coach Blair - I'm really surprised at your response. After all we've been through together. I would think that 8 years of marginally committed Hoop boys in the Bruin wrestling room would count for something????
  4. P.S. Before I catch way too much grief, you guys did an awesome job. Anytime, I'm at a wrestling tournament and the finals are done by 5:00 P.M., with few interuptions and no controversy, Good Job!
  5. Leave it to Brentwood to have to show Franklin how to run a wrestling tournament....
  6. Someone tell Coach Grindstaff that I'll be glad to wrestle the wrestler's mom if he needs help!
  7. BCB, He is already working out in anticipation. Got the taser charged and he's going to wear a Blue and Gold singlet.
  8. What a crowd - What a game. We had a good contingent from Brentwood standing down in the endzone. Smyrna was the better team because: 1. Offensive Line controlled the line of scrimmage most of the game. There were times I think I could have run behind them. 2. Smyrna had the speed on "D" to contain Mathers and make the QB beat you. The Blackman QB actually played better than I expected but at times his most effective pass was the one out of bounds. 3. I thought the onsides kick call by Shadowens was a mistake. Still lots of time, your D is playing great, kick it deep and pin Smyrna back. 4. Composure - I thought Smyrna kept theres and Blackman lost it a little in the second half. Overall a great game and congrats to both teams on great Seasons. Good Luck Blaze in Memphis. Remember to lock you doors and eat some barbeque. Off to the Wrestling Board!
  9. This will be a rebuilding year for the Bruins. Only 4 previous state qualifiers returning.
  10. O.K. = enough of the gobbley gook! Monday A.M. Back from the farm. It was really sad not playing this past Friday night. We've played both of these teams in the past 3 weeks. Keys to the game: 1. Smyrna must "limit" Mathers. Tackle him - Use their speed to contain him. Now that I have said that, tough task. 2. Smyrna must make the Blackman QB beat them. The young man is a gamer but he doesn't throw the ball that well yet. 3. Blackman has to "limit" Bryson. Tackle him - ditto above - tough task. 4. Blackman can't give up big play to QB - he throws a pretty ball. 5. Special teams - don't make mistakes 6. Home field goes to Smyrna 7. PattonsBoysdad(I'm now going to call you PBD - too much too type)has to be sure he doesn't over do it this week on the board. I'm hearing the dreaded words "CT" coming from the CoachT training room based upon the number of posts he's been spitting out the past 6 days. Carpal Tunnell is worse than turf toe when it comes to all conference poster. The Brentwood "Hydration Nation" will be there in force to watch a great high school football game. Heck, we might even tailgate. See you guys Friday!
  11. 2 of Franklin's losses were to teams that rushed for over 300 yards on the ground. I hate to say I told you so so I won't. The Rebels had a good year with the talent they had but ran into a better team.
  12. Did see that and saw #43 trying to calm him down. #12 is a great kid and all of that anger was directed at himself. He's very hard on himself and was really upset that he got called for the PF.
  13. The key to a Franklin win: 1. Protect Kuivenen 2. Make the Blackman QB beat you - not Mathers 3. Protect the football
  14. Milo, He tasted a little bit like CROW.... A total domination by the Bulldogs. Sorry we didn't give you guys more of a battle and I hope #28(i think this was the kid who was hurt) is o.k. I saw a Smyrna team that was vastly improved over the first game of the year ESPECIALLY in the offensive line. I knew what we would see in Bryson and the QB but the line was dominant. Sad way to watch your kid play his last high school football game but thats life and its been a heck of a ride. Good luck to the Bulldogs. If you guys need any tailgating advice, let me know.
  15. First of all the football gods were obviously looking after the Franklin and Blackman fans as the final score was 21 to 14. But FBFORME, in honor of the Rebel's wins I'll still pay up and buy your cover charge. All kidding aside, a huge win for the Rebelnecks and for 11AAA. Way to make the district make good cause the Bruins looked like cupcakes tonight. Congrats to Franklin and good luck in the next round against the Blaze. Just might have to go to that game. Does anyone know if the Channel 3 did a tape delay of the game?
  16. Anybody know where there is a bar around the stadium? I need to drown the flames. Ugly!!!
  17. "Undiscipline" tends to bite one harder in the playoffs. Less margin for error. Everybody bring you long johns. Gonna be a cold one!!!
  18. Fbforme, If Franklin beats Oakland by 2 touchdowns, I will personally pay your admission to that drag bar down on Church St. you like to hang out at......... I will also paint myself Blue & Gold and run nude(nekkid for all of you camo clothed Rebelnecks) from Goalpost to Goalpost before the start of your next playoff game which will be against the winner of Blackman/Overton. If you have ever seen me, you would know this will be sure to cause mass hysteria in the visiting team though concession sales will suffer... All fun aside, if you can beat them by 2 touchdowns, heck, just beat them than my hat will be off to the Rebels and you'll get play on. Good Luck to all the Wilco teams this weekend!!!
  19. There is now one open Hogan!!! Tennessean Article
  20. Any Suggestions? I think Dyson should take the job....
  21. Just couldn't resist adding one more post to what is obviously ancient history: 3- PEAT BRENTWOOD BRUINS DISTRICT 11-AAA CHAMPIONS!!! And who did we beat each year to win it? Franklin Way to go Seniors for carrying the load!!!!
  22. Milo, Were going to start with an appetizer of Bryson, sorry I mean Tyson, Foods Minced Mini Wieners. The main course is Fricaseed Bulldog.
  23. We all await with breathless anticipation.....
  24. Sorry Mr. Donkey, I took it out on the sideline so my kid could get a blow. He was wore out from chasing Mathers...
  25. His momma understood though....
