  1. Actually, I don't mind reading about teams outside of Madison County at all. However, I don't want to read about them if it means that our local teams get slighted. You can sure bet that all of the little home town papers in towns like Milan, Dyersburg, Covington, Camden, Paris, and others, are not providing ANY coverage of Madison County teams unless one of their local teams is playing them.
  2. The AP poll has two glaring flaws in it. Number one is that they can't even get all of the teams listed in the correct classes for the voters. The second flaw is the voters, or the lack there of. Very few people or media outlets vote in the state wide AP polls. And with respect to the very few voters that do their homework and make informed decisions, many don't have a clue. Personally, I wish the AP would do away with the high school polls for both football and basketball. They are really a joke.
  3. If I am not mistaken, in the state wide 3A poll both Covington and Dyersburg are rated higher than Lexington. Yet, in the Jackson Sun's poll, Lexington is number one. Does anyone else see the error in the Jackson Sun's logic? This is exactly why the Jackson Sun's little poll is garbage, just like every other poll out there, including the AP poll. Heck, I would take either Covington, Huntingdon, Milan, or Dyersburg over Lexington. In fact, you could make a case for them being no better than #8 in the Dirty Dozen poll.
  4. As usual, it is garbage that is not worth repeating. The Jackson Sun has a very sorry excuse for a sports staff.
  5. Don't break your arm patting yourself on the back with that prediction there.
  6. I believe that playing freshman at the varsity level in football is a very bad thing in any situation regardless of skill level period!
  7. I wrestled and played football in high school from 1976 through 1980. Wrestling most definately helped me in football. I competed in state championships (football) and competed against state champions (wrestling). Both sports greatly helped me in the game of life. It really disappoints me that wrestling is not as big in Tennessee as it should be. It really pains me that outside of Shelby County, there are no high school wrestling teams in West Tennessee.
  8. I believe the original poster wanted to know what kind of team that Liberty has this season and was also soliciting comments and predictions about the game between the two teams. You brought nothing to the table in regards to what the poster was asking. However, you brought JCM into the thread when no opinion about JCM was asked. As to the gate at the Liberty/JCM football game last year, it was not as good as you are trying to imply. It was not even one of the top gates Liberty had last year. Like I said in an earlier post, there are reasons other than who has won or lost as to why Liberty dropped JCM. Debating thoses specific reasons here will serve no good purpose.
  9. Wrong answer Hanz. No administrater here. However, you have mentioned that Liberty does not want to get beat on by JCM as a reason that the series was discontinued in football. Now, is that they type of talk that someone who is supposed to be a board administrater should be partaking in? I think not! In fact, this thread is supposed to be about Henry Co. versus Liberty. Maybe you should take your JCM smack talk to another thread where it might be more aplicable. By the way, perhaps you can answer why JCM refused to schedule a basketball series with Liberty for the upcoming season. Perhaps it was because of the beatings that Liberty gave JCM last year!
  10. VolunteerGeneral, You could not be more wrong in your assessment of why Liberty is not playing JCM this year. I am not going to get into it with you on this board as to the specific reasons why they are not playing. Those reasons are for the admistrators of both schools to deal with.
  11. jaxoncm, With all due respect, I am right. As the rivalry WAS Jackson High vs. Brownsville High, this rivalry ended when Jackson High merged with Merry High and Brownsville merged with the other school. You will not find a record book anywhere that recognizes JCM or Haywood Co. playing football in 1912. Those two schools simply did NOT exist in 1912. JCM and Haywood Co. began playing football against each other in the late 60's when both schools formed. And that is the truth.
  12. KublahKD, All of USJ's games are not televised live, nor are all of their games televised. As far as the game goes, I am definately no fan of either team. However, Milan should win this game fairly easily.
  13. On Aug. 2, juicyt stated that "JCM and Haywood have been playing since 1912". This would not be correct as JCM was not even a school until the late 60's. Of the two schools that combined to create JCM, Merry High never played Brownsville/Haywood Co. The rivalry WAS Jackson High vs. Brownsville/Haywood Co. and that rivalry ENDED when Jackson High was combined with the former Merry High. It is wrong for the Jackson Sun and others to perpetuate the MYTH that JCM and Haywood Co. have been playing since 1912. End of story!
  14. Only 12 media outlets voted throughout the state. With that few people voting, how could anyone take these polls seriously? And another thing, in the 3A poll, who is the idiot who "gave" Lexington a first place vote? No disrespect to Lexington, but the individual who "gave" them a first place vote does not know the first thing about high school football. Lexington is a decent team but is definately not worthy of a first place vote. If the media outlets in this state don't take the voting seriously, why don't they just eliminate the polls all together?
  15. I don't understand how Milan can play Middleton at all. The last time I checked, Middleton already had a ten game schedule. It is my understanding that you can't even schedule more than 10 games. Did Middleton drop an opponant? If Middleton plays Milan, absolutely nothing good will come from it for Middleton. No disrespect, just stating an obvious fact.
  16. The bottom line on this is that Milan and Crockett County should have finished this game the next day! End of story! I noticed on the Milan schedule on this site that the game is listed as suspended. However, it is still listed as a victory for Milan and this site shows Milan with a record of 2-0. Since the game was not finished, Milan's record is only 1-0. Somebody on this site needs to correct that little error. If what I read on this site is correct, Milan has scheduled another opponant to take the place of Crockett County so that they will have 10 games and better odds in a tie breaker situation. It's real nice to not reschedule a game with a tough team and replace them with someone from Twinkieville. I am very critical of BOTH schools for not finishing this game the following night. The worst case scenario should of had this game being finished the following Monday. If it could not have been completed on Saturday or Monday, then Milan and Crockett County should be made to deal with a 9 game schedule and the pitfalls that may or may not come with that.
  17. As it currently stands, booster clubs could not pay the salaries of coaches. Nor could they be paid from the individual sports school account. Folks, this is dead serious. The republicans on the county commission are pure evil and in my opinion, very anti public shcools. It will also apparantly be illegal for the coaches to coach for free as well. Almost 200 jobs are on the line. The showdown is Monday at Liberty. The meeting begins at 6pm. Better get there at least one hour early to even get a seat. This could prove to be a very rowdy meeting.
  18. Opperman, If there were no media work rooms, or hospitality rooms available when you were there for a high school regional or sectional tournament, then your beef should be with the tournament director or the host school, not the facility itself. At the Oman Arena, the areas used as media work rooms and hospitality rooms are in the basement of the facility. Again, if they were not available, it was because the tournament director, or the host school decided to not make them available. There is in fact at least 10 feet of room on the baselines. I know because I was on the floor this weekend. The only area where there might not be 10 feet would be on the corners of the baseline.
  19. Opperman, In regards to your post about Oman Arena, I must disagree with your thoughts on the facility. As a member of the media who is currently covering the NAIA tournament, I can assure you that there are media work rooms, interview rooms, and hospitality rooms on site. In fact, for the NAIA tournament, there are three hospitality rooms. There is plenty of room on the baselines for players to stop. The concrete wall is at lest 10 feet, if not more, away from the baseline. The only part of your assessment about the facility that I agree with is that there should be some more scoreboards besides the one high above the playing surface.
  20. 96.5, out of Lexington, is carrying all of the games.
  21. Personally, I do not like the basketball shorts that most teams wear today. I absolutely hate the low riding shorts. I wish that there were a uniform dress code for players on the court. I am not advocating a return to the high and tight shorts worn by players in the 70's and earlier. However, there should be some sort of happy medium. I saw one team this year that had shorts that went down to just above the ankle. Those shorts just looked plain dumb. And yes, I noticed several players pulling up the shorts to keep them from completely falling down. The bottom of basketball shorts should remain a few inches above the knee at all times. Of course, that is just my opinion.
  22. I believe that the rule may have to do more with the fact of possible rim or backboard damage that could be caused by dunking before a game. Once, when I was in high school, a player from the opposing team dunked in warm ups and it bent the rim and damaged the backboard. The game was delayed almost an hour before repairs could be made. This was before the new style rims that give while dunked on. Of course, while I was in high school, dunking during a game was illegal. Geez, that means I am getting old,
  23. I see the teams from 12AA sweeping the teams from 11AA on their own home court in Lexington. In my opinion, Chester County and Bolivar will be playing for the region championship in 6AA!
  24. It was a great game to watch last night. However, very poor officiating by the female official cost Chester County the game. Chester County was robbed on a call by that female official with a few minutes to go in the game and the Chester County coach jumped all over her about it. Then, with just over one second remaining in the game, the same female official calls a very lame foul on a Chester County player after a missed shot by Bolivar. Bolivar converted a couple of "charity shots" given to them by the female official for the win. It was obvious that the female official was holding a grudge against Chester County when that call was made with just over one second to go in the game. The bottom line is that this game should of been decided in overtime by the players of both teams and NOT by a very poor excuse of an official. The only good thing is that I believe that these same two teams will meet again for the regional championship as Bolivar and Chester County will be the class of the field in the region 6AA girls tournament.
  25. Patterson did commit an infraction of the TSSAA rules. The punishment was that he was not allowed at practice for three days at the beginning of the season.
