The Liberty Lady Crusaders defeated Haywood County this evening by the score of 47-45 in front of a sold out SRO crowd of over 2200 on the Liberty campus. This was a game that was well played by both teams and it was tight throughout as neither team lead by more than 4 points the entire game. This game appeared to be heading to overtime. Liberty got a time out with only 9 tenths of a second remaining in regulation and the score tied at 45 all. Liberty's sophmore center Ebony Prather came off of a "picket fence" type double screen and took the inbounds pass. She calmly turned and drained a 17 footer that has already been dubbed "The Shot" for the game winner as time expired. The Liberty Lady Crusaders, under the direction of veteran coach Joe Holloway, move to 16-7 in only their third year as a school. Liberty 12 10 13 12 47 Haywood 12 11 12 10 45 Half time score Haywood 23 Liberty 22 Leading scorers for Liberty were Ebony Prather with 16 points and Irish McDonald with 14 points.

The final score of this game was McNairy 51 Liberty 45. Liberty 10 13 12 10 45 McNairy 14 11 13 13 51 Leading Scorers McNairy Wright 20 Boehler 14 Liberty Prather 17 Jarrett 15 This was a hard faught, intense game through out. There was a good crowd for this game and they were not disappointed. It was not decided until the last minute of play. Both teams played very well. Liberty has come such a long way in only its third year of existance. McNairy showed why they are the best team in the district. But, Liberty most definately made McNairy Central EARN this win.

NWhoopaholic, For the most part, I would agree with you on your poll. I do differ with you because I feel that your poll is too heavy with Class A teams. Gleason deserves to be there. No question about it. The others, in my inside opinion, would be over matched against some AA teams you don't have listed. I just don't think you can only look at a teams record. Never the less, here is what I might consider a good West Tennessee Top 10 poll. 1 Jackson North Side 1A Martin Westview 3 Gleason 4 McNairy Central 5 Chester County 6 Gibson County 7 Milan 8 Haywood County 9 Liberty 10 Dyersburg Honorable Mention: Munford, Obion Central, Madison, Union City, Greenfield, McKenzie, South Side.

As far as seating capacity goes, the smallest I have ever been in is the new gym at Carroll Acadamy. As far as court sizes go, the smallest I have ever seen is the old high school gym in New Harmony, IN. On one end, the wall is about 3 INCHES from the baseline. There are special lines to use for inbound plays on the baselines. That gym is no longer used. However, I would have loved to have seen a game there back in the day. The gym in the movie Hoosiers would be the size of UT's arena if you were to compare them.

1 North Side 18-1, 6-0 2 Westview 22-1, 7-0 3 Gleason 21-2, 12-0 4 McNairy Cen. 19-2, 6-1 5 Chester Co. 12-8, 4-2 6 Gibson Co. 11-5, 4-2 7 Milan 17-3, 5-3 8 Liberty 15-6, 5-2 9 Obion Central 13-8, 4-3 10 Munford 15-8, 3-0 Honorable Mention: Dyersburg, Haywood Co., South Side, Madison, Greenfield, Union City. Westview is 1-1 (almost 0-2) versus Haywood and North Side owned Haywood last Friday. Thus, my reasoning for North Side ranked above Westview. With respect to other class A teams, Gleason is the only class A team that could consistantly hang with, or beat any of the teams in my top ten teams of West Tennessee. Chester Co. does not have a stellar record. However, they are the defending AA champs and have played a very good schedule. They also knocked of Gibson Co. on the road this past week. Milan has lost 3 of last 6 after starting out 14-0. They will drop several more before the year is over with. Liberty played tough defense in a beat down of Bolivar by only allowing 8 field goals the entire game last week. Complete turn around from last years team that won only 8 games. Obion Central won two games last week. Munford is the best of a week crop of Class AAA teams. Anyway, that is my poll and my basic reasons for my rankings.

Not even close!
-
The Liberty players WERE NOT involved in any incident after the game.

JCM is also in AAA, not AA.
-
Shouldn't your comments be directed at someone from the Jackson Sun? Do what every other team that gets dissed by the Jackson Sun does, deal with it!
-
JCM is a solid team? Are you kidding? They are like 2 wins and 12 losses on the season. You have also left off a team or two that is more than deserving of some recognition in West Tennessee.
-
One good thing to remember is that when these two teams get it on for the third time this year in district play, the game will take place in a bigger arena over in Chester County. More people will get the chance to see these two beasts of AA basketball duke it out again in the third chapter of what just might end up being a five chapter epic.

Please, before you post anything else, learn how to structure sentences in such a way that normal people can understand them. Good grief.

People, just face the facts that Dyersburg was drilled by South Side. The score was in fact 79-59 with South Side winning. South Side was led by Ross with 21, McCurry 16, Strayhorn 16, and Cole with 10. Dyersburg was led by Mclin with 13, Finch with 11, and Brown with 10.

I think it is on WNWS. It might also be carried by the Haywood station. But, don't hold me to that. -

Um, WBBJ does not broadcast high school basketball games. Thus, they could not be broadcasting the USJ game. I suspect most of the Jackson Sun sports staff will be at the Bolivar/Liberty game. The North Side game is on radio I believe. -

Gibson County getting beat by the defending AA state champions is NOT an upset! Anybody that thinks otherwise needs to get a grip on reality. Looks like the "real" Chester County team showed up tonight.

One thing is for sure, if you don't get there BEFORE the girls game starts, you might not get a seat!

Smooth Juker, where are you? Did the L train get lost on the way back to Lexington? Or did you find an all night humble pie buffet restaurant?
-
The poster who put up the score that said Trenton beat Gleason was t-money.
-
I would not trust WBBJ for scores. They had the wrong score for the Liberty/Lexington boys game. Greenfield fan, if you know the score to be a hoax, what was the correct score? Or, are you just guessing?

WHICH TEAM HAS BEEN THE BIGGEST SURPRISE SO FAR
ReitzFan replied to toughnup's topic in Girls Basketball
The Liberty Crusaders are having a breakout year under the direction of Coach Joe Holloway. Liberty is 14-6 on the season and 4-2 in district action in 12AA. This third year program has already won more games this season than they did in their first two seasons combined (5 wins first season and 8 wins last year). Liberty has also won 4 district games this year after winning only a total of 2 district games in their first two years combined. Liberty will lose only one senior off of this years team. -
Looks like we will see some changes next week as Milan drops their second game in a row with a loss to Dyersburg Tuesday night and Gleason falls to Trenton.

Liberty defeated Lexington tonight by the score of 81-51. The game was not even as close as the score might indicate. Liberty was lead tonight by Brandon Evans who scored 22 points. Jewaun Long poured in 21 points. Also reaching double figures for Liberty were Josh Sain with 10 and Bijon Jones with 10. Liberty held Mack "Little General" Gardner to only 2 points tonight. He got those with a bucket at the one minute mark of the third quarter. Every single time he touched the ball there was a Liberty defender so close to him that Liberty knew what kind of gum Gardner was chewing! Liberty did not allow Lexington to break the 50 point barrier until there were only 58 seconds to go into the game. To the smooth juker and the lexington lunitics, thank you for participating in tonight's 12AA district game. Don Pardo has some parting gifts for you as you board the L train back to Lexington.
