  1. That's a shame, we always enjoyed beating up on those Jackson boys. But according to the article on the front page, it appears this game with Nease is a pretty big one.
  2. theres a thread in the general football forum.
  3. Being from Memphis I know a little about Melrose. I can tell you that their fans are very passionate about their football- anything less than a state championship is simply unacceptable. Right or wrong, that's the standard that Melrose football is held to. So it's not exactly easy to coach in Orange Mound. As for this past season, Melrose spent much of the of the year trying to establish a passing game, they finally found a decent QB in Wilson. However, I think that in doing that they took the ball out of Cooper's hands and struggled at the beginning of the year with mediocre opponents. Most of the games this year were won because of their superior athletic ability, and, for the most part, a well disciplined and well coached team could have beaten them. Personally, I think they need to find a coach that can teach them discipline- they've got more athletes than several teams could put together. A little discipline and they could be scary good.
  4. Not to mention, he made alot of plays by himself- his oline was less than stellar that game.. he also has great hands out of the backfield
  5. To tell you the truth I had my doubts about Cooper in the beginning. However I saw him play in a scrimmage against MUS at the beginning of this past season and was just wowed, and MUS had one of the better defenses in the state this past year. He would run over the first tackler and then juke another and out run the secondary, great instincts and a good runner.
  6. One of the greatest guys I ever played football against, both on and off the field. So suprised to hear of his untimely death, my thoughts and prayers go out to the Mosby family and the CBHS community.
  7. Last I checked, defense is pretty key to the game.. I dont know if Melrose would beat Alcoa, but defensively i think they certainly could slow down the Alcoa offense.. in all fairness to the Melrose defense they were beaten on trick plays.. now i think that maryville was the better team and getting beat on trick plays is just a part of discipline, which melrose lacked.. hats off to maryville, they scouted very well and did what it took to win By the way Cooper is a heck of a back, and did quite of bit of damage on his own, by that i mean his offensive line did not generate a whole lot of blocking up front, most big plays came from him either running people over or just flat out running by them.. I would put him up against any back in tennessee
  8. I wouldn't be so sure that McCallie is the only DII school that could compete, but that is not what this is about.. The fact that a spending war determines who coaches where in high school football is just sad, from alums giving money or whatever else you can think of.. what is high school football coming to? This is the side of DII football I do not like personally, I know that it happens in DI as well- but unfortunately in DII money is controlling and alums are the real employers. Just my two cents.
  9. Umm.. evidently there is some sort of animosity here.. I'm guessing?
  10. Haha, does your son possess the same grammer skills that you do?
  11. Correct me if I am wrong, but BA hasn't even won a DII title.. all their titles came before the split.
  12. I was just going by what the stats said, if it's wrong, then I am wrong. I do know that he played against us (MUS) last year in the final game. That's the only hard fact that I know, so I looked it up on tnsuper7.com because I was curious myself, and it states that he played in 9 games, if it's wrong ok, my bad. And by the way, Chris Mosby would be crazy if he didn't want to play with Chris Walker, again, let me state more clearly, Chris Mosby makes MORE big plays than Chris Walker, not saying he doesn't make the big play or that he can't, he just doesn't make as many. Walker allows for alot of attention to be taken off of Mosby, it's a dynamic 1-2 punch, I don't disagree with you at all.
  13. I never stated that CBHS didn't have a great defense, because they do, the stats don't lie. I was just replying to another post.
  14. ok, first off, I checked last year's season stats and it says that Walker played in 9 games and recorded 53 total tackles, and those stats are taken from CBHS' own recorded stats. It has been discussed before, MUS only blitzed 3 guys on the last drive, that is their own fault, but none the less I believe it couldve have been a different outcome if MUS had blitzed more. I do not question CBHS' abilities on offense, but MUS happened to shut down Harris on offense, aside from two or three big plays, and I wouldn't put all of my hopes on CBHS duplicating an all passing drive like they did the first time. I think that this will be an awesome game, it's CBHS-MUS, nothing more needs to be said. Good luck to both.
  15. no, why don't you not take what was said out of context. I have no doubt that Chris Walker is a fine football player, I actually got down on to the football playing field and played against him. Why don't you read the post from start to finish, there's no knocking on Chris Walker, I was simply STATING the facts. If that's bashing someone, then, yes, I was being negative. Some people are so sensitive and so eager to try to find fault in someone else. I was actually complimenting Chris Mosby, but you turn it in to a bashing post. Wasn't Mosby the one that missed alot of games last year, not Chris Walker.. ???
  16. quality grammer lessons they give you boys up at Unicoi.
  17. Well think back over the past two years and ask yourself how many "big plays" Chris Walker has made in those games. Last year he didn't make any of what would be classified as big plays. Mosby on the other hand, can either make the big play via a sack or forcing an interception. By no means is he the whole defense. I was speaking more in terms of someone making a big play on defense.
  18. While they are both very explosive players, Chris Mosby will be a force to be reckoned with. If the owls slow down Mosby, i.e. not allow him to make another 15 tackles (i think it was) then MUS will be a much more efficent on offense. I personally believe that Mosby is the fuel of their defense, if you slow him down, you almost certainly slow down CBHS' defense. As for attendance, MUS brought a bigger crowd than BA did last year, and we played in BA's own backyard. So I think that attendance will still be very high, it is a CBHS-MUS matchup after all.
  19. Judging by the history of these two, it should be an awesome game. I have not seen JCM play this year, but from the likes of it they seem to have come together pretty well over the last few weeks, which is exactly what you want to see if you are a JCM fan. Being from the Memphis area I know what kind of team Melrose has. And much like JCM (by the sound of it) it seems like Melrose has really come together as well. After finding a solid qb in Wilson, Melrose really started to put up the numbers everyone had been expecting they would from the get go. It used to be, shut down the running attack and Melrose is helpless, now they can open the field up and use their athletic wr's to more of an advantage. All in all I think this should be an awesome game, but I have to root for the Memphis boys to get the job done. Good luck to both!
  20. I am not doubting any of Baylor's abilities b/c I certainly know how good they are. However, before they beat MBA there was no talk about them even making the state game. Now all the sudden they are talking about winning it all. Isn't that a little far down the road, considering they still have to drive all the way across the state to play arguably the best team in the league this year? Not to mention, MUS is a pretty hostile enviorment to play in. I don't think Baylor has even traveled across the state to play a game in the last two years, much less a state semi's game. All in all, I think it should be an interesting game. But at this point you have to give MUS the edge, b/c of the experience of playing in big games and the result of this year's game. I know it was an extremely close game, but MUS did have to travel across the state.. but the funny shaped ball does bounce in weird ways. last I checked they still have to play a very capable BA team that always plays their best in the state playoffs.
  21. I would certainly believe that MUS will not be counting Baylor out. But it seems that MUS has been in the same tough situation many of times before, and I believe with all the experience that MUS has in big playoff games will be an advantage. Not to mention a 5-6 hour drive will certainly be tough on Baylor. I think that the game will be a close one. But I like MUS in this one, but it's the playoffs, anything CAN happen.
  22. And I believe that CBHS played one of it's best games all year, when it played MUS. Where as MUS played probably it's worst game of the year. And the fact that CBHS had to pull it out on a 2 minute drill drive at the end of the game says alot. Don't get me wrong, it was probably the most complete drive any team has put together against MUS this year, but MUS played very passive the whole drive, blitzing only 3 guys. All I am saying is if MUS plays to its capability, I believe they could beat CBHS the second time around, IF that game happens.
  23. Well how about MUS giving up just 45 points in 9 games, with I believe what is around 18 points being given up by 2nd or 3rd teams. MUS has the best D in the state.
