  1. It should be a great game with a great atmosphere and a large crowd. The published capacity of Hardy M. Graham Stadium is 7500. I don’t think it will happen, but I’d love to see fans of both schools fill it up! After digging through my scrapbook, I see that the Jackson Sun estimated an attendance of 9000 for the Westview/Humboldt game on November 6, 1970. The Sun may have overestimated the crowd size a bit, but it’s a shame that 54 years later we can’t get those kinds of attendance numbers for games like this. The players would love it! Go Covington Chargers!
  2. It is all in good fun and it should be a heck of a game. Thanks for the good luck wishes and good luck to your South Fulton Red Devils.
  3. Good game Crockett. Congratulations Haywood. Now, let's beat Dyer Co. Go Tomcats!
  4. That joke is as old as Methuselah (maybe older than me and @CHARGERFAN), but I will agree. One of the two Charger teams will win! Go Covington Chargers!.
  5. After 20 years on Coach T, you’re the only poster I’ve had the opportunity to meet. I’ve always enjoyed reading your posts and discussing your thoughts concerning West Tennessee football (especially Covington/Haywood, the old Big Ten Conference, and Regions 7-3A and 7-4A). Of course, I think I might know a few Haywood posters, but we’ve never identified ourselves to each other and I’ve never had any face-to-face discussions with them about any topics on the T. There are a few other posters I’d like to meet, but MOM scares me. He’s a porphyrophobiac you know? Take it easy on me MOM! You know it’s true.
  6. I agree. Here's a quote from Coach Puckett in this week's Brownsville States Graphic: “…Last year, we had 4,000 rushing yards between two players, and those two players are very good players. Their stats aren’t anywhere near where they were last year, and that shouldn’t take away from them. We are able to spread the ball around and a much more dangerous offense.” I'm all for a balanced offense to keep the defense honest, but I think the talent of these two players could be used more. That said, I do believe Cam Miller showed some signs of injury. That might be the reason for pulling away from the running game.
  7. Other than Oakland and Covington, the Tomcats have not been challenged, and it showed last night. I agree with MustangNation007,
  8. Congratulations Chargers, you played a fantastic ball game, and Skylan Smith is the real deal. Actually, the entire Charger team is the real deal! Good luck the rest of the way and bring home that gold ball. This Tomcat will be cheering for you.
  9. Brownsville Radio IS live streaming the game. https://www.facebook.com/brownsvilleradio/videos/1110514760501782/
  10. I've said it before, and I will say it again. You did a great job. I hope you will be able to watch a live stream of the game, and don't work too hard!
  11. Thanks for sharing @CHARGERFAN. It should be an exciting game. I hope it will be a clean and injury-free one. Safe travels for all and good luck to both teams!
  12. @CHARGERFAN Any game day previews/predictions from the Daily Memphian or Commercial Appeal?
  13. I'm not a contributor, but I check this site all of the time. It's a wealth of information Thanks for being a contact. I might have some info to send you later.
  14. Thanks, Haywood games were live streamed on WNWS several years ago. I don't think they live stream Haywood games anymore. It wouldn't hurt to check though.
  15. I apologize for the misunderstanding regarding live streams. Hopefully, Brownsville Radio will live stream tomorrow night’s game.
  16. I agree with Kruger77. It's a good mix of pass and run.
  17. Covington doesn't allow live video streaming.
  18. I agree. It should be a dandy! Since an early season loss to Oakland, Haywood has easily defeated four teams with a combined won/loss record of 3 – 24. With that level of competition, it’s hard for me to determine how good the Cats may be. I haven’t analyzed Covington in great detail, but the Chargers do have a quality win over Munford (ranked sixth in the AP 5A poll). On paper, it appears Covington is the favorite, but the game isn’t played on paper. It is a rivalry, and I expect both teams to give it all they’ve got. To be honest, I like going into this game as the underdog. Not that they need it, but I think the underdog status might give the Cats a little extra motivation. I know we will have to watch Skylan Smith. He is indeed a dynamic running back, and he has my vote for 3A Mr. Football. Haywood has some good running backs as well. I hope they, as well as the rest of the Tomcat team, are on their game Thursday night. A word of caution to the Tomcats…watch the penalties! We can’t shoot ourselves in the foot and expect to win this game. Today’s Jackson Sun prediction: Haywood (6-1) at Covington (7-0) Time: 7 p.m. Date: Thursday This game was scheduled after both teams lost a game due to cancellation. The Tomcats throttled Hardin County last week behind a big performance from quarterback Carson Graves. Haywood has been dominant in its last four games, winning by an average of 45.5 points per game. Haywood leads the series 19-17-1 and won the past two games. Covington has a stellar running back in Skylan Smith, who has 77 carries, 1,124 yards, 21 total TDs this season. Chastain: Covington 31, Haywood 24
  19. A few facts about the Chargers and Tomcats: (Chargerfan, make sure I haven't made any mistakes.) Covington (7 - 0) is averaging 46.7 ppg while allowing an average of 4.9 ppg. Haywood (6 – 1) is averaging 44.7 ppg while allowing an average of 14.9 ppg, Covington’s 7 opponents have a 19 – 31 won-loss record. Haywood’s 7 opponents have a 16 – 32 won-loss record. Haywood’s lone loss was to 6A Oakland (7 - 0) by a score of 49 – 6. (Oakland is ranked number 1 in the AP’s 6A poll. Looking at Haywood’s 6 victories, the Tomcats have only defeated one team with a winning record. The Cats defeated Memphis Business Academy (5 – 2) by a score of 46 – 6. Covington has defeated two teams with a winning record. The Chargers defeated 5A Munford (7 – 1) by a score of 35 – 0 and Dyersburg (4 – 3) by a score of 30 – 15. Massey, Cal preps, and Sony Moore all predict Covington to win this game anywhere between 3 to 7 points. Haywood is ranked number 1 in BPM’s rural West Tennessee poll. Covington is tied with Westview for the number 2 spot in BPM’s rural West Tennessee poll. Haywood is ranked number 4 in the AP’s 4A poll. Covington is ranked number 2 in the AP’s 3A poll. Haywood won the last meeting with Covington by a score of 34 – 17 on October 21, 2022. (That game was played in Covington.) I pray for a good clean game with no injuries and good luck to both teams. Thanks again Coach Kirby and Coach Puckett.
  20. I hated to see Helen’s close, but I do like Bozo’s I don’t believe I’ve been back to Bozo’s since you and I met there the week of the 2020 Haywood-Covington game. We need to meet and eat again. Do they still serve that delicious homemade lemon ice box pie?
  21. Helen's has closed and the building is for sale. From the Aug. 28, 2024 edition of the Brownsville States-Graphic: The embers have gone cold on one of the single greatest institutions in Brownsville. On Wednesday, August 21, Helen’s BBQ stoked its final fire and shredded the remaining inventory of tender, pulled pork as a long line of patrons waited patiently for one last sandwich from the world-renowned eatery. Helen Turner has become an icon in Brownsville for her mastery of pit-fired barbecue with her small business becoming a tourist destination for working class people, celebrities, and dignitaries from all over the continental United States and abroad.
  22. Unless something has changed, Covington does not allow live streams. @CHARGERFAN will probably know.
  23. Chiledeme asked who are the strong teams/contenders on the west side of the bracket? I simply attempted to give an unbiased response. Haywood, Dyer Co. and Crockett Co. are strong teams and all three are still in contention for the Region 7 Championship. At this point, Crockett Co. is at somewhat of a disadvantage due to the Cavaliers' loss to Dyer Co., but you can’t rule the Cavs out. There’s still plenty of football left to play and anything can happen. We can have the Haywood vs. Crockett Co. and Haywood vs. Dyer Co. discussions the last two weeks of October.
