Let me apologize to you. It's just that some people seem to think that we blame the umps for losing, and we didn't. We just kept shooting ourselves in the foot with runners on base. Again, my bad.

No one has said that the umpire lost the game for the Cavs. It helps to read what is being said on here. We had plenty of chances and didn't capitalize. Therefore, we lost. Oh, and it's spelt lose, instead of loose.

Alright already! Enough! No one said that the ump cost anyone the game, all they said was that he was terrible. And he WAS, for both sides. And no one is making excuses for how the game ended up. Yes, it is a shame that it wasn't called any better than it was, because the two best teams in the district were playing each other. Personally, I thought Will and Seth fought hard. They weren't at their best because the umpire wasn't at his best, and that does change the game. Both teams played hard, and Riverdale came out on top. Period. End of story. Cookeville left 13 runners, and we know we can't do that against a team like Riverdale and win. We have no excuses, we just lost. The complaints about the ump though are legit from both sides. Don't waste your time David, this guy obviously has no clue about baseball and how the game can change when the zone is as big as a donut hole. Hope to see you again in Riverdale on Wed. in the Championship.

Very true. Yes, the ump was terrible, but he was terrible for both sides. We had our chances and didn't capitalize. You can't leave the bases loaded or runners on 2nd & 3rd inning after inning and expect to win. Congrats to Riverdale for getting it done. It should be a great game tonight. These two teams play hard and it is a battle each time we play each other. See you tonight.

That's a great point. When I played at Cookeville, I knew a guy on Oakland's team and we'd chit chat and cut up after our games. Our schools hated each other, and still do, but we still respected the other. Baseball is a game. The greatest game ever invented. These kids respect it and play hard. But there are also friendships that are made between opposing teams players, whether it be through summer league teams or at camps that help us to realize what it is all about.

Any word on this game yet? Playing or not? Does anyone know?

What does everyone think of how the District has panned out so far? Any thoughts or comments? It's going to be a tough second half, and the greatest thing about high school baseball is that anyone can beat anyone on any given night. It's going to be a tight race for the finish. I am looking forward to it. Good luck to all teams, and Go Cavs!

No, not really. It just makes me sick to hear people talk down on how hard our guys play. It's not like they're out there trying to lose. That's the only thing.

Great point Grad. Sometimes the kids think about those expectations and press a bit when all they have to do is relax and play the game.

It's good to see that you guys actually have fans that are supportive instead of fans that like to criticize everything that your team does when you are struggling. Good luck the rest of the year, except when you play us.

You can ask as many questions as you would like, but don't put us down by saying we are lacking intensity, or something along those lines. Oakland isn't playing as well as they would like to be right now, but do you hear anyone saying that they lack intensity and aren't playing hard? No. They are trying to rally their team by building them up. I am proud of our guys, and they play hard every game. They press just a bit, but that is from wanting to make plays to help us win. No one is "branding" your fanship. All I said was, if you are with us, be with us all the way, if not, then don't. The guilt trip you are trying to give is not going to work. And for your information, many of the former players come and watch us play and ask about us and support us. Many of the guys I played with 9 years ago and even before me are behind us. So, I guess you are on your own. And trust me, you're not hurting our feelings.

I respect your opinion as well. It's just that there are many things that people do not see just because they come to games only. They don't see the grueling hours these kids put in running, taking fungo, taking bp, etc. The list could go on and on, and it's just not fair to say that they have no desire or lack effort. Players graduate and new guys will have to step up. Teams identities change each year. You have to play with the hand you are dealt. We have an excellent group of guys, and they bust their tails. We are going to be just fine. There's more to the game than just playing it, and that is true with any sport.

You don't just go to one game and make assumptions about the character of a team. A fan should support his/her team good or bad. The fans don't coach the team, or play for the team. They do not know what these young men go through, and how hard they work. I know that we have gained some bandwagon fans because we had a turnaround year last year. And now that we are playing some tough competitiion and other teams know we are good, it's not going to be as easy to have that stellar record, but that doesn't mean that we still do not play hard. And now all the wannabe coaches in the stands start their chirping. If you are a "true" fan, you stay with the program and support it good or bad, not just when they are good. We appreciate the support and the interest, but if you are going to support us, then do it fully and respect what we do because we work hard at it each and every day. I know that I am not speaking just for our team, I'm sure there are many more that feel the same way. If you're with us the be with us to the fullest, if you aren't then don't bother.

Ok, you have only seen us play one game right? Well, let me tell you something, you don't have a clue of how hard these kids play and work. It's early and yes, we haven't played as well as we would have liked up to this point. We had 34 games sceduled this year, already, the 2nd Ooltewah game and the Riverdale Tournament were rained out. That's another 4 maybe 5 games. That's why we haven't played as many games as everyone else. Did you look at the district standings pretty close? Because we are 2-0. Our kids are playing hard. I see that you put "Our Cavaliers" in your post. Well, if all you can do is talk bad about us, then we don't need your support, and we are definately not "Your Cavaliers". We play a pretty tough schedule this year, and it will be hard to match last years record, but that doesn't mean that we don't play hard because we aren't 9-0 right now. If you are going to support us then support us, if not then we don't need you. Oh and by the way, the "program " is doing just fine, and it will continue to with or without fans like you.

Well said Slyder. Our kids have worked hard and play hard. We are making some mistakes that we didn't last year, but it's early. Things happen. Remember people, this is high school baseball, anything can happen and the kids aren't perfect. We'll be fine. The District race will be fun to watch. Good luck to all and Go Cavs!
