It takes at least til Christmas to get'em all ironed out. Ya, Ya, Fritzie, It ain't no easy task! Me and da Mrs. will be headed to da Cleveland Duals dis weekend to check out da great wrasslin and sample some of the tasty offerings da concession stand will be sellin. I cut too much weight back in da day and I am trying to make up for it. I'm still a waitin to come accross some good hotdish! Who has the best concessions down here?
  2. Christian Brothers in Memphis just built an athletic developmental building that is amazing. The building houses a huge weight room that can handle over 70 athletes working out at the same time. A cardio room, reception room looking out over the football field, a wrestling arena and locker room, state of the art training room with 2 cryogenic hot and cold tubs that can each hold 5 players at a time, a state of the art equipment storage room, numerous meeting rooms and coaches offices, and a football locker room that has all the bells and whistles such as a media wall, multiple flat screen TV's, NFL style football lockers, along with a logo on the carpet and ceiling in the middle of the room. I know I have omitted many other features, but there was a surprise around every corner. You gotta see it to believe it!
  3. Insert foot in mouth! I guess that's why they play the game!
  4. They didn't do you any favors with the pairings, but you will do fine. I was there last year and remember a GA. team who won some duals. Make sure to get some ice fishing in after you take care of business.

  6. No, I have not lost my mind. I never said anyone was from Memphis. But I do think that both spent some time in Memphis. In fact, I think one of the 2 guys lived in Memphis for a few years. Oh.. If you look back in the thread you may see a question about Chuck Bean. Thats right, I think he may have had something to do with copperheads wrestling.
  7. Is that the same Chuck Bean who ran around with a John Feldhacker? Now there was a pair! Those 2 pretty much dominated the Memphis party circuit in the early 90's. A couple of ladies men who could fight. From what I've heard they are 2 UTC legends.
  8. Never, never, never, question the power of "The Ginger". I think I know what this person is speaking about and it is the ultimate of all finishers.
  9. Congratulations! Keep up the good work Nick.
  10. Excuses, now I'm laughing! Don't be calling out Bray! He has traveled down the inner city road and had success. There have been some successful programs in Memphis City Schools, but from what I've seen, it is difficult for these coaches to do it all on their own. It takes not only a good head coach, but also a supportive administration, financial backing, a good group of parents, and a group of coaches willing to do it for free. Ronnie, Tell us about the differences coaching at Ridgeway vs. Houston. Shootfirst, It sounds like your heart is in the right place so get it going in inner city Memphis and I will be right by your side.
  11. Man Ghouse! Where in the heck are you? All is quiet on the Western Front!
  12. Word has it that coach Holmes & Germantown's coach Bradley are going to make an attempt to represent the West on this US National Team: http://beardteamusa.org/index.html Coach Bradley is sporting the Tank Abbot Look. /motorbike.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":motorbike:" border="0" alt="motorbike.gif" />
  13. We appreciate both of you guys supporting this event. Many of us felt that the Open Division was the best part of the event. We will work a little harder to get more open participants next year.
  14. They will be OK if they get there by 9:00. Rules clinic will start at 9:30 and wrestling will begin at 10:00.
  15. You can get your USA card at the event before weigh-ins.
  16. Just a quick note on Open division wrestlers. Most of the calls and emails I have been getting are from wrestlers in the 170 - 180, 200-210 and 220 up to 245. I had a question about what styles we were wrestling. We are wrestling Greco and Freestyle, but all Open wrestlers can get together before we start and we can talk about Folkstyle and other things you may wish to change. The priority is to get all wrestlers who travel to Memphis some matches. We appreciate you guys making the trip to Memphis.
  17. Hamm- Matches are 2-2-2. We will have medical staff on hand. No lunch break, but we will have a hospitality room and I will get you some Memphis Barbecue for the trip back. There is a great place right down the road from Germantown High School.
  18. Looks like we will have a few around 200-220. Hamm are you in at Hwt.? I have another Hwt. from Memphis who will compete. This Tournament will not drag out all day. Rules clinic at 9:30 am, wrestling starts at 10:00 am and we should have everyone done by 3:00 pm.
  19. I have had a few people interested in wrestling in the Open Division. That would be University, Senior, and Veteran divisions combined. -One or Two were around 149 lbs. - Three around 160 lbs. ( 1 Vandy student, 2 wrestlers from Ft. Campbell) - 2 or 3 Heavyweights. ( 1 former Arizona State Sun Devil) I would like to tell you all that you will get a few quality matches, but I can't. I would not want you to make the trip without a couple of matches. If any open wrestler is interested in participating, please leave me a reply on this thread or email me at: heal63@bellsouth.net. I will leave an update on this thread on Wed. and Thurs. nights. That way, I will be able to give you guys an honest count of Open division wrestlers along with their weights. Best regards- Lowell Healy Mid-South Wrestling Club
  20. Coach Bray, I wish I could be there. Sounds like you have a great set up. Would you like your "MINNESOTA 2007 NCAA WRESTLING CHAMPS" T-Shirt in XL or XXL? I bet they already have them made up. I have a nice Minnesota flag here at the house. I will be happy to drop it off before you leave. Have a safe trip!
  21. Oh, I'm sorry. I forgot how things work down here. Thanks for the education.
  22. Tell me you are just having fun here!
  23. SALT LAKE CITY (AP) - Olympic wrestling champion Rulon Gardner and two Utah men were rescued by a Lake Powell fisherman Sunday after surviving a small plane crash near Good Hope Bay the day before. Gardner was a passenger in the Cirrus SR 22 along with pilot Randy Brooks and his brother, Leslie Brooks, according to a news release from Becki Bronson, public information officer for Garfield County. The plane was flying low when it struck the water and all three men were able to get out of the plane before it sank. Authorities are uncertain of the exact location of the crash, but the three men swam for more than an hour in 44-degree water before reaching shore and then spent the night without shelter, according to the release. None suffered life-threatening injuries, authorities said. "It takes only about 30 minutes for someone swimming in 44 degree water to start suffering the effects of hypothermia, so the fact that they swam in it for an hour, not to mention surviving the plane crash and the night without fire or shelter, is pretty amazing," said Steven Luckesen, a district ranger at Glen Canyon National Recreation Area. "If these guys were a cat with nine lives, they just used up three of them." Gardner and the Brooks called a relative to take them for medical attention in American Fork. The cause of the crash is still under investigation, Bronson said. Gardner pulled one of the most stunning upsets in Olympic history at the 2000 Sydney Olympics, winning the gold medal in Greco-Roman wrestling by ending Alexander Karelin's 13-year international winning streak. In 2004 in Athens, Gardner won the bronze medal, and in wrestling tradition, left his shoes on the mat as a symbolic way of announcing his retirement. This is not the first time, he has survived a life-threatening accident. In 2002, he became stranded while snowmobiling in the Wyoming wilderness and lost one of his toes to frostbite. Then in 2004, he was struck by an automobile while riding a motorcycle.
  24. Coach Stevens, There have not been big turnouts in the Senior or Vet's age groups the past few years. Any Senior's, or Oldtimer's, oops I mean Vet's, that want to wrestle in this event need to let the let the organizers know a few weeks in advance. I am sure they could find you a match or two. If not, at least you would know before that morning.
  25. Man, that little fella is still riding those bikes? I remember quite a few years ago when he almost killed himself on one of those bike rides. He may be in shape, but he ain't what he used to be. I'd like to see a few of those highschool coaches go at it at the Pat Nailen. I'm sure you guys could think up some good matchups. On a serious note, Mr. Pat Nailen was one of the finest people I've ever had the pleasure of knowing. It didn't matter where you were from, what school or club you supported, new to wrestling or an Olympic Gold Medalist. If you were a wrestler, coach or wrestling fan, Pat was there for you. I've learned in life that people like Pat Nailen only come around so often. That is why I feel The Pat Nailen Classic is such an important event, not only for the Mid-South Club, not only for Memphis or Tennessee Wrestling, but for THE SPORT OF WRESTLING!
