  1. What LA did just proved that the current setup is the way it should remain. There is NO reason to drop the number of teams that make the playoffs. So what if a weak team makes it at times? There are also times when teams that are as good as anyone in the state are lower seeds. There are also weak #1 seeds every year as well. You want the regular season to mean too much, in my opinion. The current playoff setup benefits everyone, and gives teams everywhere realistic goals to strive for. How many times in the past were great teams kept out of the playoffs because they lost even only one game to a team from a higher class? Some of you guys sound like the same ones who argue for the BCS. I suppose you'd like to see the NCAA basketball tournament field cut in half as well, eliminating possibly the best two days of competition in sports? Don't try to spoil the fun of so many teams just because you feel it is "too easy". It just makes you sound old and bitter. I'm sorry, but I like the current setup and the opportunities it gives to all schools, regardless of powerhouse status. High school sports are about fun above all else, and we should all remember that. Fun for the kids, not for us.
  2. This is even more unfair than the current system. It punishes teams for being successful and rewards them for futility. What you'll end up with is a champion for each division that is "almost good enough to make the next A". Other than 5A that is, which would likely not be anymore competitive than it is now. If a championship team happens to come from a school with 1,500 students narrowly defeating a school of 200 in a final, have they really accomplished anything? The only gain would be marginally better parity among teams of a division.
  3. Having some time on my hands, I decided to combine the five most reliable polls I could find, and add up the totals to see which teams are ranked the most often. Lower totals will mean higher rankings. I used the 14 teams receiving AP votes this week, and went from there. The individual poll rankings are included with each team. They are, respectively: the AP poll, Earl Nall, Sonny Moore, Massey Ratings, and unapproved website. Here are the results: 1. South Pittsburg - 2 2 1 1 1 = 7 Total 2. Jo Byrns - 1 1 3 2 2 = 9 3. McKenzie - 6 3 2 5 5 = 21 4. Hampton - 3 7 9 3 4 = 26 5. Mt. Pleasant - 4 6 5 11 6 = 32 6. Cascade - 5 4 12 9 3 = 33 7. Friendship Christian - 8 5 6 7 9 = 35 8. Trousdale Co. - 10 10 4 4 8 = 36 9. Gordonsville - 12 12 14 8 12 = 58 10. Collinwood - 7 8 8 20 17 = 60 11. Midway - 14 11 11 10 15 = 61 12. Watertown - 13 19 17 6 7 = 62 13. Lookout Valley - 9 20 16 13 10 = 68 14. Trinity Christian - 11 9 19 14 19 = 72 I thought the drop offs from number 2 and number 8 were notable.
  4. Both Hoover and Independence have losses this season I believe. These records could likely be found on the TSSAA site.
  5. Because York is obviously the same team at Westmoreland as they are in Jamestown. By the same logic you could say that Smith Co. defeated the same Gordonsville team by 18 (@ G-town no less) that defeated Westmoreland by 13 at Westmoreland. As Antwan often says, comparative scores don't mean much. That being said, I believe both Westmoreland and Cannon Co. are capable of giving SC good games. /thumb[1].gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":thumb:" border="0" alt="thumb[1].gif" /> On the topic of York, they should make it further than they did last season. /smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" />
  6. Correct, they defeated Huntington three years ago. Even in this "down year" Alcoa is better than all but a hand full of teams in the entire state, much less in 2A. Rankin combined with talent is a scary thing. /blink.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="blink.gif" />
  7. Actually, I'd be a bit concerned that you only put up 12 on a team that handed you the ball multiple times, and that you were beaten 7-0 in the second half. A repeat performance in the playoffs could get you sent home early. If the game went anything like it sounds, I'd say that "escape" is a good way to describe it.
  8. This is what high school football is all about. Thanks for the great post.
  9. They've been promoted from "lads"? /laugh.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="laugh.gif" />
  10. I wouldn't judge a team based on one game in week 1. Region 4 is without a doubt the strongest in the state in 1A. Whoever takes it will be a threat.
  11. For all of you talking about homecoming... how can you take that as disrespect at all? They had to schedule it sometime. Look at their schedule, what better options did they have? /huh.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="huh.gif" /> This match-up has provided some of the best games of the last few years. I have a lot of respect for the fans in Macon, you guys are some of the best. It's always a great atmosphere up there for some football. Regardless of how this game turns out, I hope both teams continue to good seasons the rest of the way. I believe Smith Co. to have the edge in this one, but Macon Co. is one of the teams (like York) that always seem to play us tough. Hopefully this will be a good one. /thumb[1].gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":thumb:" border="0" alt="thumb[1].gif" />
  12. York should take this one easily, but then again I would have said the same last season.
  13. Sounds like York played an excellent game. Congratulations on a great win, and good luck the rest of the season. Until we meet again, that is. /ohmy.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":o" border="0" alt="ohmy.gif" /> Final: York 35 - Smith Co. 21
  14. You guys at Macon played a great game, and should be very proud of your team. I was glad to see you made some adjustments since the Smith Co. game, but also sad to see your redzone woes continue. Good luck the rest of the season. You guys post on here like you expect to just run over every team you play. That is just not gonna happen, my friend. Station camp is a good football team, especially considering they've only been around a few years. However, I believe your offense will continue to have a hard time against good defenses. It is too one-dimensional using only a few plays and little variation. You should be happy you escaped last night with a win. I had a good view from the away seats, and the FG that provided the final margin looked like it barely went over the left upright, at best. Unless your team has something they didn't show last night, I wouldn't be so quick with any playoff predictions. Both teams had great fan support at the game, and I was pretty impressed with the Bison crowd. They were very critical at times, though. Good game to both teams, and good luck with the rest of your season.

Just like when mom's speed to get their children to school on time, or when they complain to coaches/officials at youth sporting events. This isn't something new, there will always be rules that are ignored. As far as the topic, I noticed the rulebook that was linked did not specify a punishment for breaking the rules. Does anyone know what a typical action would be against a school/team that violates one of the rules?
  16. Have you met a Boyd fan who thinks Smith County is going to win?
  17. My team, like many others in week 7, has a bye from playing a week 0 game. Since my team is off, I'm looking for another game to see this week because I just can't take a week without high school football. So what games are you other bye weekers gonna go watch this week? Where are the best games to watch this week? I need some suggestions.
  18. What an unbelievable game! I have to give credit to both teams. Dallas is definitely a GREAT back. His first TD run was simply amazing. You guys have some great fans in Macon. When you get a big play, the ovation is deafening. Both teams played great, and neither deserved to lose in my opinion. The last drive just capped off an amazing game. Very reminiscent of the last time the two met two years ago in the playoffs. Not quite the atmosphere of that game though. The two are easily the top two High school games I've ever had the priviledge to witness. Thanks to both teams for giving us a great night of football, and good luck on the rest of the season. Go Owls!!
  19. The final was Westmoreland 14 Trousdale Co. 0 I believe.
  20. I'd really like for you to show me the "whining" you claim to see. All I read so far is us giving you credit for a good game, and congratulating the Owls on a good season. As for the guys on the bank behind you, I don't know anything about that so can't comment. Your guys played well, but I think the score was inflated a bit by our unusual amount of turnovers. Again, I'd really like for you to point out this "bashing" you see. I mostly see people complimenting your team, except for the one comment of someone who was unimpressed. However, I'm pretty sure he is a fan of another school, so don't judge us by him. (No offense to the person who made that post.) As for the QB and WRs, they were a large difference in the game, and almost all of your offense. Your defense also played very well though. I believe we hung with the big boys pretty well seeing as we made the final four this season. The feeling of defeat only stinks when people like you turn what is almost entirely good-hearted post-game commentary into something derogatory. I think our Willy was doing pretty well in the first half, when our offense was doing better than yours. Other than a couple of controversial passes that is. I give Fulton all the credit for playing a great game tonight, but a few of their fans have been unimpressive in victory. For the ones that have been well in victory, thanks for your good comments about our team and the game.
  21. First I want to say great season to the Owls. It's been a great ride to this point, I'll never forget it. I'll really miss these seniors also, what a great bunch. As for the game, I was impressed early on at how the Owls were able to keep it close even with the turnovers. Our team played hard all night, but the turnovers and missed opportunities were lethal. I was very impressed with Fulton's lack of turnovers and penalties. They were hurt though by the face mask on third down that lead to our one touchdown, but that was it. Other than that, excellent play. They broke a few big plays like we were afraid of, and pulled away in the second half. Like someone said earlier I think the game was closer than the score indicated, but lets not take away from how great Fulton played. I can also respect how they stayed with their game, even when it was out of reach. Our team gave it all they had, but Fulton played the better game tonight. That's all you can say. Good luck next week Falcons! Fans might want to work on the signage though.
  22. What a great game. Our offense had struggled the entire game, and when Portland went ahead I was very worried. Thankfully things went our way and we were able to pull out the win! However, that game has to be my second most memorable. The first was Smith Co. at Macon Co. in last season's playoffs. The buildup for the game all week was crazy. Very similar to this week as Fulton comes to town :justwrestle: ... Anyway, even though it was a loss for us, the game was still great as Macon wins behind two unbelievable kicks in the final minutes. A 75 yard (I think) punt, followed by a 50 yard FG on the next possession to give Macon the 10-9 win. I'll never forget the atmosphere, the game, or Macon taking down the goalposts.
