  1. The final score was a headscratcher for sure. Central will need to find their offense again if they want to have a chance at Sweetwater.
  2. Meigs has definitely improved a lot since the first few games, but will have to play error-free football to even have a slim chance against Tyner.... in my opinion.
  3. I agree, and that's what I said above. Central's loss to Loudon last night was huge, as far as playing at home or on the road in the 1st round of playoffs.
  4. That's fair. In D-B's fashion, they may not even make it to the Maryville game.
  5. I'm trying hard to not laugh, but..........
  6. He left a bad taste in the mouths of Cleveland fans early on. I think most any decent coach deserves 3 years to see what they can do.
  7. I have no dog in the race, but Cleveland fans predicted OR fans would be ready to fire Cummings after the second year.
  8. With so much riding on this game for Central tonight, I was shocked at the outcome!!! More than likely Central will have to beat Sweetwater in order to not travel in the first round of playoffs. Central is 3-1 in region play and Loudon is 2-2. Central plays at Sweetwater for their last game and Loudon hosts Kingston. If Loudon beats Kingston they'll have the same region record as Central (assuming Central loses to Sweetwater), and would lock up 2nd place in the region due to their win over Central tonight. So, Central controls their destiny.
  9. Good to see Basin score a lot of points in the second half. That will hopefully give them confidence going forward. Remember - baby steps. For some Meigs Countians tonight was their 3rd trip to Basin since Tuesday. BTW, I was talking to the gentleman who's the volleyball head coach (in name) Tuesday, and he said he played for Mullinax. He and his wife are sweet people!
  10. Every effort and amount of love shown is a positive impact on the young men, even if the results don't always show on the gridiron. Wishing you LL coaches success! Yep, Meigs and Basin play at 6:00 in the semis, and the championship game follows at 7:30. No doubt CSAS will be in the championship game, and it would take a tremendous effort for anyone to beat them.
  11. Hopefully the turnaround can start with you little league coaches and community involvement. It's tough on Copper Basin finding enough 1A opponents within a 2 hour radius because of their location. Having to play some 2A or 3A teams to fill out the schedule just adds to the problem. It's a beautiful school, and downtown Copper Hill with all the restaurants on the river is well worth a few visits each year. I'm sure CB's volleyballers won yesterday after we left, so it looks like a Meigs/Copper Basin semifinal matchup tomorrow (Thursday). CB beat Meigs there during the season in 3 straight sets (Meigs beat CB 3-2 in Decatur), so the odds are CB will be in the championship game.
  12. I'd imagine Polk stays at 2A, depending on the approved low/high student numbers for 2A or 3A. It's all speculation at this stage, for enrollment numbers and teams for each Region classification. As an example, I just don't see Sequatchie playing in 3-3A, as was thought by the poster I quoted. That's about a 3 1/2 bus ride at best for the traveling team - and that's assuming good traffic through Chattanooga on a Friday. I've heard that the TSSAA might look at each school's enrollment numbers for October, in addition to the enrollment numbers for each school at the start for any major discrepancies before they reclassify. That might work for a handful of teams' benefit, but naturally there would be complaints if a school missed the cutoff number by 1 student. Whatever is done, you can count on the TSSAA botching something up in the process.
  13. Those tough, hard-hitting teams were a trademark of a Mullinax coached team. My sons were blessed to have him coaching them from '87-'91 at McMinn Co. I assume you're a Greenback fan? I remember Mullinax taking one of those teams (possibly '89 or ''90) to scrimmage Greenback because he knew they'd face a team that mirrored his - tough as nails. I think a Coach Satterfield was coaching them then?
  14. Copper Basin does have a good volleyball team - much better than 3-4 years ago! Meigs and Basin split during the season, but Basin garnered one more Region win than Meigs, thus they finished 2nd and Meigs 3rd. CSAS dominated the Region, going undefeated, and will more than likely win the tourney. Are you coaching a LL football team?
  15. From reading likely reclassifications: If Loudon and Signal Mtn moves up to 4A, and Meigs Co. moves up to 3A, it would make a good Region 3-3A between Meigs Co., Brainerd, McMinn Central, Kingston, and Sweetwater. As a thought, if they moved Brainerd to another region, what other nearby teams would be a good fit for 3-3A? Possibly Rockwood, or a Knox County team? EDIT: On the 'Likely Re-Classification' post on this page, the poster said "Guessing from 541-726 enrollment for Class 3A. Trying to get 6 teams in each was the goal. Region 3: Meigs 544, Tyner 547, Brainerd 615, Sequatchie 636, McMinn Central 654, Chattanooga Central 719.
  16. The McMinn Central seniors are on a mission to go out with a bang, desiring to play Sweetwater for the Region championship - and beyond. The taste of success is addictive, so I think they'll be ready for the Loudon challenge.
  17. Fitz is a gentleman for sure. Copper Basin has always been one of my favorite teams - ever since the late Coach Mullinax turned the program around before he went to McMinn to turn them around. Region volleyball tourney is at Copper Basin this year, starting tonight. Will be there tomorrow (Tuesday) for a 6:00 pm game. Would love to meet you if you're there.
  18. I have a friend whose grandson plays for Maryville. After they lost to Alcoa he predicted two more losses for the Rebels this season. He knows football, but I still doubted him. Congratulations to Cleveland.
  19. Absolutely. Something that Meigs Coach Fitzgerald lives by.
  20. I saw some good battles between Jefferson County and Cocke County in those early years of JC's program.
  21. Controlling the line of scrimmage is vital.
  22. You see it every day on the news, how children are defiant toward any figure of authority, law enforcement, teachers, coaches, school administrators, and even referees.... and they're learning it from watching their parents' actions or hearing their parents talk disrespectfully about these people. Lack of respect is growing and it will only get worse until it's handled. Naturally there are some in authority who don't represent their position very well, which the media sometimes tries to point out as being the norm. The vast majority of the authority people I mentioned above are good, honest people. They may make mistakes occasionally - as humans do - but they still had/have the child's best interest in mind. Children learn more from seeing their parents' actions than what the parents tells their child.
  23. I know the Central fans, community, coaches, and players were all pumped up for this game. In Coach Moody's post-game interview with the radio commentators, he said they'd had this game circled on the calendar. As I told another Central fan, if there's any consolation it's that Central didn't play the same Meigs team that lost to TKA or Bledsoe. Plus, it wasn't a Region game. As Yeti said above, the Meigs' youngsters have improved a lot in a short period of time. As it is with Central, they both have some tough Region games coming up. I believe if Central cuts down on penalties and can mentally put the emotional loss to Meigs behind them, they will beat Kingston.
  24. I wasn't there, nor did I watch it, but with recent rules to help eliminate concussions the NFHS emphasizes that helmet-to-helmet contact is unacceptable AT ANY POINT of a game. Naturally, there are times it's not caught and we all know it's going to happen. The refs I know give some latitude unless they think the person could have taken measures to prevent it. Again, I didn't see the game so I have to leave it to the discretion of the ref that called it. Same with the ineligible receiver downfield, some things are caught and some aren't. I agree it happened at a terrible time for Central who was gaining some momentum. Meigs had a great offensive gameplan and was able to impose their will running the ball, which ultimately was the difference in the game.
