  1. Assuming all the teams you pick win tonight, the state matchups with the substate winners will be interesting to see.
  2. I don't know much about Stewarts Creek, but beating Bradley at their place will take some doing, You gave a good description of Cleveland's team. If they're on and get good support from the bench they'll make it a game with Blackman.
  3. I asked because I think there is some preventative measure to keep two teams from the same Region playing each other, unless they both reach the championship game.
  4. I can't remember, is it strictly a blind draw or do they try to pick teams from each part of the state to play each other for the first round of state?
  5. I knew he was going to be hired but was sworn to secrecy. He'll be working with some good people.
  6. He coached at my alma-mater, Cocke County High School, prior to taking the M'town East job. He got about all he could out of the available talent when he was at CCHS. Great guy and a class act. He was very involved with commemorating our 50th reunion CCHS team.
  7. Wasn't the Karns victory over William Blount a bit of an upset?
  8. Meigs Co @ Gatlinburg Pittman This may be the biggest mismatch in AA Substate action this season. G-P wins by as much as they want. Alcoa @ McMinn Central Same two teams from last season meet again. Alcoa pulled the upset last season at the Round House to advance. McMinn Central trounced Alcoa earlier this season by 20+ points. Should be one of the best AA Substate games.
  9. OK, I thought it was the one in high school. Thanks
  10. Meigs does the same thing. Their big strong post stays on the perimeter most of the time attempting 3's, instead of using her strength inside for scoring or rebounding. That's not on the player - that's on the coach.
  11. I thought Tony's youngest daughter was a Senior this year? My mistake if she'd already graduated. Regardless, it was a huge night for Cleveland - beating a team by double digits that some predicted would make it to the state tourney.
  12. Losing one of his best players (his daughter) before the season started, Tony has done a great job with this Lady Raider team.
  13. Unless McMinn Central is shooting lights out, their issue will be against a team with big, strong post players. I still think the gold is York's to lose.
  14. No doubt that York is the favorite to win it all this season.
  15. I hate to hear that about this young lady. Most likely, either Alcoa or Gatlinburg will be playing at McMinn Central in a sub-state game. Central is tough to beat in the Round House, though Alcoa did it last year. I think Central will make it to state this season. They may not win the state this season, but they'll be favored to next season.
  16. After some investigating, I'm told his package at Sale Creek is nearly $20K more than he earned at Meigs. At his age of 52, that extra amount will not only garner him more money annually, but also toward his pension. I don't think he'll be looking for another (better) job - because of his age and because he turned down some lucrative better jobs in the past while he was at Meigs. I see Fitz as one who likes the challenge of turning a program around. Tommy was the best choice for Meigs. Recently retired Sweetwater coach Mike Martin coached Tommy at Meigs, so I'd say the Sweetwater job was Tommy's to turn down.
  17. Yes, that's the same Molly. Her younger 8th grade sister's same Englewood team just won the state again in Middle School A.
  18. It will be a cake walk to the Substate game. It's been a long time since Central made it to the State Tourney, but should this year. Next season they should be one of the favorites to win it all. I'm still amazed how Molly Masingale was overlooked as one of the finalists for Miss Basketball.
  19. Jason Fitzgerald steps down as Meigs County football coach | Chattanooga Times Free Press
  20. Loved seeing that major upset. Maybe Central will be a little league weary and won't beat Meigs too bad tomorrow night.
  21. Polk County could be Meigs' nemesis in Region play. It wouldn't surprise me if the Wildkittens win tonight in Benton, for the reasons you mentioned.
  22. Agree with you on Kingston. Perhaps the coaching changes have been the problem, but with their talent they should be much better. A coaching change (that won't happen) at Meigs might actually make them better. McMinn Central will own this district and region this year and probably the next 2-3 years.
  23. How in the wide, wide world of sports did McCain Baker not make the first or second all-area football team in the Daily Post Athenian????? I'm sure Coach Moody submitted his name? Surely?
  24. McMinn Central girls will be hosting a substate game against the Region 1 runner-up. York Institute appears to have a very good team.
