  1. Hard to read...both previous posts have good points, but to be so divisive in the public is just what you said...painful. Having a successful athletic program is hard enough with everyone pulling the same end of the rope, and I'm not just talking about wins and losses. I really hope that Coach Riley can break this pattern with the basketball boys, but it looks like it's an uphill battle.
  2. Depends which angle you look at it from as to which way you say it, but the results are exactly the same...why make it an issue?
  3. Not trying to get in the middle of something, but you asked and can research Riverside or Fairview. I expect Fairview to go pretty deep in the playoffs, and Riverside is no slouch. Trenton Peabody is well known and well respected, and the Adamsville group on here always are courteous...I don't think anyone tried to slight the Tide by favoring Adamsville in the game, or for saying that the 'Cards "blew the lead", just giving their opinion.
  4. Confucius say...he who laugh last, laugh loudest!!!
  5. No...there's not a better way than enrollment. Student population numbers represent the odds of a kid being athletic or not across the board. Everything else can be controlled, such as youth leagues, weight training, practice time, coach involvement and effort, ect...all things that improve programs even down to making the program appealing to students. Life is hard, and if you are to succeed you have to apply yourself...nothing in our society prepares kids as well as athletics to prosper after their education is done. Society is partly to blame...if I choose not to earn my own living, there are numerous government programs that will supply me with food, a place to live, healthcare, transportation...heck, even a mobile phone! if my grandfather didn't work, he and his family didn't eat. Scotts Hill's football program isn't ten years gone from a cow pasture with no lights and a JV schedule...we won two games a year for a while, but we (program and community) worked hard and gradually (at first then more quickly) got better. Numbers went from low twenty's to almost seventy players, playoff games came, new facilities...well you get the picture. This has been a rough season...schedule has been killer, we graduated most of our starters, and we replaced a great coach, but we don't want anything given! We will continue to work hard and get better, and our time will come. Success doesn't mean much if it isn't earned.
  6. You ask "how is that good for any kid?" to win two games a year, when they are in a region with like sized teams? I don't like to answer a question with another question, but I'll do it this time anyway...what message are you sending those kids when you ask to be moved to a lower classification (where you'd have an advantage over everyone else), in order to win more games without getting any better? Work as hard as the other schools, fans support the teams, and accept the responsibility to improve yourselves instead of replacing opponents with lesser, inferior competition. Your position on this issue is what's wrong with our youth now...teaching that hard work and honest effort pays dividends, and that there's no shame in losing if you gave everything you have is being replaced with the"everyone gets a trophy" mentality, where hard work and effort are useless.
  7. Really hope your guys can get the W...a season's worth of practice deserves at least one.
  8. Lake Co. defense giving up too many yards per play...run and pass working for TCA right now already leading 13-0. Gotta fix the D or it's not going to happen for the Falcons tonight.
  9. Couple of trolls hating on Lewis County. Bunch of hogwash.
  10. Just what I've been thinking all year. Offensively they weren't as good last year, but they could score more than their stingy defense would give up. Scotts Hill only gave up 19 to them in the quarters, but we only managed to score 14 and our offense was potent.
  11. Nah...you don't have to be a coach to appreciate a great one, but it helps not to be closed minded and have an agenda to offend anyone from Lewis County. I suspect that he knows what he is preaching is hogwash as well as everyone else does, but he doesn't have to answer for being ridiculous because his identity is hidden. He will soon enough fade away like all the other trolls have.
  12. Agree on some of your points, but disagree with one in particular...Waverly was the best true 2A team last year. All the arguments on the matter are hypothetical...it will never be possible to prove or disprove, but the most reliable opinions came from the only team to face both. Having said that, Waverly does not have the defense to be in the conversation of "best 2A ever". They are good, and the offense is really good, but some of those mentioned above were excellent on both sides of the ball. After all that...Waverly has not won a playoff game yet, much less the gold ball. Regardless of what you or I think the playoffs are a different animal, and the best team doesn't always win. Lets wait and see how good they show that they can be before we disagree about how good they are right now.
  13. Those teams were better defensively...they're not bad on that side of the ball this year, but are giving up more points than in years past.
  14. Big difference...this year Union City's defense is giving up more ppg than Waverly. Their offense vs. the Wavo defense would be hard to stop...Waverly's 'O vs. UC's D is a mismatch. Union City has played three teams this year with dynamic and balanced offenses in Murray Ky, Adamsville, and McKenzie...Waverly should produce similar results.
  15. Waverly doesn't have a "shut down" defense this year, but they've only averaged giving up around 26 a game over their last 5, including a prolific McKenzie team and Riverside. Their offense is averaging about twice that in the same span of games. bottom line is, whether the game is a 21-20 defensive struggle, or 56-49 type shootout, your defense has to stop them more often than their defense stops you, and that isn't going to be easy. Nobody is unbeatable, but I'll be surprised if they're tested late until region 7 decides who the best among them are, and it'll take a great gameplan from whomever that is, along with some turnovers.
  16. I totally see your point, but there are two ways to look at it. Four teams per region make the playoffs...if you finish fifth, you may be the fifth best team in the state, but you had your shot. Basketball is worse in my opinion, district and region seeding works...but the "best eight in state" never make the 'boro.
  17. Ask the Trezevant posters (if you can find one) about Waverly...lots of trash talk last season about how they were going to blow them out. After the game nothing but respect from the Trez fans, and a long sigh of relief because they escaped (barely). I know that was last season, but Wavo is loaded again...defense may not be where they were last year, but the offense may be even better.
  18. That's the point that I was (in my own, clumsy way) fumbling for BEM. As much as we love our respective schools, the kids who play the game, and the game itself... we also need to have the best in mind for everyone involved past what they can do to gratify the fans and the school. Young people need mentoring and guidance to succeed on the field, and even more so in life... I have every confidence that your administration will do what's best for everyone, not just the "innocent".
  19. Hate to hear of issues with some of your kids, but it happens. No idea the reason behind the suspensions, but just want you to know that TCA's reputation can't be tarnished. I am way too familiar with the school, it's mission, and the folks who are proud to be associated with it to believe otherwise. Wishing the kids and fans the best in moving forward...the timing is a shame, but after all is said and done it's only a game.
  20. Dude, your stuff is getting old...I thought that a couple of Lewis County's fans were a little overzealous with their predictions, so I gave them a little good natured grief for it, but their program, fans, and posters here on the 'T have always been classy and proud with good reason. You, on the other hand have beaten the hair off the 'ol dead horse from some childish grudge that you obviously have against LC, and I'm beginning to be embarrassed for you.
  21. I haven't heard any "hype" involving Hickman Co. As for Riverside, they're a tough and talented team. Lexington barely escaped in OT, and they've given a good account in all their other games except Hickman Co. I'm personally not looking for a chance to glorify the Panthers, just giving my thoughts and opinions when they are relevant. It happens that myself and a few others think that Riverside has a good chance to advance through region 5 (not necessarily predicting it, but they have the team to get it done), so if you want to call a few opinions "hype", there's the reason...more than one person has the same opinion concerning the outcome of two games between two regions.
  22. Obviously the pollsters think so, and overall it probably is...we (Scotts Hill) aren't very good this year and still beat Hickman and East Hickman. Waverly is on another level than anyone in our region, and I suspect that Riverside is much better than they have received credit for. The #'s 2, 3, and four teams from region 6 could all go out in the first round against region 5 and I wouldn't be shocked, but if Waverly doesn't make at least the semi's I will be.
  23. The poll has Eagleville at #6 and Riverside unranked...regional seeding has more to do with the overall strength of the region than the perceived strength of the team. Region 8's #1 seed may be an underdog against region 7's #4.
  24. Riverside should win. Ripley is usually not bad, but not in contention in their region, and this year they are down even from that. Probably not going to be as one sided as it sounds just because they have a much larger student population to gather athletes from, but shouldn't scare you too bad if the Panthers play ball.
