  1. I believe that Covington mad the championship game four or five years back, with Carlos Williams running the ball. Someone care to confirm?
  2. I haven't seen any of the eastern teams, but Scotts Hill scrimmaged Huntingdon and played Dresden. Dresden is a pretty good team, but not nearly on Huntingdon's level. According to most of the posters, and comparing scores of those four 1A teams from the east, they are pretty close top to bottom...if they aren't better than Lake Co., Dresden, Wayne Co. ect... might just as well cancel the games and ship Huntingdon the gold ball. I don't bad mouth teams, and there are some good ones around (including LC and Dresden) but the truth is what it is...nobody from the west can hang with the Mustangs...they are probably top four or five in all classifications on the western side of the state this year.
  3. Waverly should be #1 in the poll for the reasons you state, and for the "eye test". The way the poll works (and I don't like), is that you get a lot of credit for past position, and they should have been above Meigs for that reason. Doesn't matter though...nice thing is that it all gets settled where it matters. Good luck to the Panthers...take care of what you should, and the rest will fall into place.
  4. We'll see... Not trying to say that I'm right, just that I wouldn't bet the farm.
  5. I'd make them the favorite against Eagleville...toss-up against region 5's #1.
  6. Never been to one of those...think I'll pass!
  7. Huntingdon is a firm #1...after them, I suspect that the next four teams are from the east. The gap between Huntingdon and the rest of the west is a canyon. I wouldn't be surprised if South Pittsburg comes to Cookeville to face the Mustangs when it's settled on the field.
  8. That's just how polls are, but I hate it...I've heard people argue that a team "deserved" their ranking, yet thought a team beneath them would beat them, or was better???
  9. Things are going to look a lot different than this when things are settled.
  10. Doing better than I deserve... killing me at work with all the hours, but I got a job, HA! We'll have to get together later and fill in the blanks...maybe a post season game...probably have to be a Milan game , we ain't getting it done at the 'Hill. Good catching up...keep Tucker White surrounded and you'll be OK.
  11. That's what they like to do BPM, but their QB can throw it around if he has to. The QB makes the Lexington offense go...he's shifty, quick, and thinks on the run. Roll out option is where he shines, but he likes to keep the ball too much in my opinion. If Milan can keep him from big gains on the ground and still cover the short pass, they can win this one. If the Dawgs have to sacrifice coverage to keep White from eating up the field and clock, they might be in trouble.
  12. Lewis Co. has evidently improved from our game, so I don't know about the CA/LC winner and Riverside...figure it's at least a toss-up. Riverside is a sound football team...they play defense and run pretty well, yet have balance enough on offense that you can't tee off on the run or pass. No weakness on defense either...not "great", but not easy to score on. I have to make Waverly a heavy favorite against anyone in 5/6, but after them the Panthers are right there. Just hope that the Hickman co. game was a "fluke"...homecoming and looking past someone can do that sometimes.
  13. We were tough, and Waverly got out coached. The better team won, though. Scotts Hill made just two mistakes the entire game and lost to a more talented opponent. We played great football the entire post season, and I was very proud of those kids...same kids who were thrilled just to win one or two games when they were freshmen, were heartsick that they had the opportunity to beat the best true 2A (my opinion) team in the state, and didn't get it done. Waverly's kids now have the opportunity to avoid that feeling... if they play to their potential they are (my opinion) the best 2A team in the state again, with no Memphis monster to deal with this time around.
  14. Wasn't slighting anyone Intense, and I don't think that Peabody will accomplish that feat. I'd hate to predict how your region's final standings will look when the dust settles, and that will provide all the teams with an advantage in the playoffs over other regions, where lots of games are walkovers. Man, I miss playing all you guys that used to be on our schedule, even though we couldn't hold our own with most of them (see A'ville score) this year. I think that the level of competition that we faced then is what made us pretty good for a while, and hope that we can get back there soon.
  15. You're pretty good at ranking teams from afar, but there's no substitute for the "eye test"...Waverly is the real McCoy. UC and Peabody are good teams, and one of them could still get hot and knock all the Adamsville, TCA, Lewis Co.McKenzie, ect... type teams out, but Waverly is on another level. Nothing is certain, but expect to see Wavo in Cookeville.
  16. Nothing that matters. Somewhere along the line it plays out where the top dogs advance...no scenario like last year where "my" Lions knocked out the #1 team in the poll, there's too much separation between the top teams and the "also ran's".
  17. what a difference one week makes!!! Most folks thought that UC and Peabody were way ahead of everyone in the west, excepting Waverly...from dusk to dawn it looks as if Peabody might miss the playoffs and UC has some serious battles ahead to reach the point that most thought was a given. McKenzie has also inserted themselves right back in the hunt to ruin someone's plans. As Arte Johnson used to say...verrry interesting!!!
  18. Best idea possible...maybe something like I-40 feud would be a little more catchy, but somehow I like I-40 classic...doesn't limit the title to two teams, as "battle" implies.
  19. I agree. My post was tongue in cheek because Blackdeath commented that LC would beat Waverly and Riverside wouldn't stand a chance.
  20. Nah, not a hater...just giving black death a little grief for some of those bold predictions. I actually have a lot of respect for Coach Sharpe and the program, but don't see them achieving what Mr. death has proclaimed.
  21. Ain't you heard...Riverside beat OC, and Riverside "don't stand a chance against LC", so Obion Co. will probably get mercy ruled.
  22. ^^^^^^ This is why you should never drink and post ^^^^^^
  23. Whoops...got me mixed up with someone else, I haven't argued at all about the LC/Forrest game. I have no idea about Forrest this year, so I can't fault LC for winning by a narrow margin. Your username doesn't come to mind about the "homers" comment I made either...A couple of post's after the one I'm replying to are self explanatory.
