  1. Dancer is the "unnamed" from my post...some influential people in Selmer initially said that it would be offered to either Dancer or Riley first, but you know how time affects this kind of process, and that was weeks ago. The "qualifications" you speak of are meaningless if the administration wishes to hire Bingham, unless you are meaning that they have reservations. Even non faculty can be hired as assistants with a simple online exam and a background check...moving forward from that, the same assistant can then be hired as head coach after a five year involvement, even if all are not with the same system. I hope that this move works out for the Bobcats, but the timing couldn't be much worse.
  2. Again Willie, it's not about football for me...I will acknowledge that some of the posters on here seem to only care about that, and that's a shame. Scotts Hill has not advanced to play Trez, but has most of those others you mentioned in other sports, so if it were about that I'd be wanting them investigated. The Principal at Trez blew the whistle, that's why this is about them and their kids. You don't know me, but if you did you'd realize that I decided long ago to be active in bettering my own community and its schools. Precious little that one person can do it sometimes seems, yet helping just one kid/family even in a small way makes it worthwhile. I've been very blessed to have people in my life, and can't imagine how difficult it would have been to have not had guidance in the tough times. If it feels like I'm"busting your chops" for my amusement I'm not. Seems as if both sides have had their say on the matter, so I'm going to leave it alone from here out.
  3. You dodged the point...FAIR to the kids, means educating them as your job dictates. Did you research my content to see whether or not I'm "all about football"?
  4. I've been accused of making this "all about football" Senator, yet I have noticed that the wins vs. losses are all that you mention on this topic. When Trez had their meltdown in the championship game several years back however, you were quick to use the argument that it had to be factored in the environment that these kids came from...why don't you use some of your influence (I've gathered that you have some) to change that atmosphere? Kids from inner city Memphis who are gifted enough to play at the next level (and there are several), deserve to be prepared to take full advantage of the schooling that football paved the way for them to have, not to mention the ones that don't have the skill set to be offered. Education is the ticket to a better life for ALL KIDS, especially those from the background that you used to defend their actions against Greeneville. Whitehaven seems to do a good job of sending kids on to school without these problems, so I can't figure why you defend Coach White for not putting the same effort into prepping his players to go forth and do well OFF the football field, instead of sacrificing their education so they can win for him on the field.
  5. The public education system in Tennessee allows each school system to formulate their own policies. City systems, special school districts, and county systems all have the option of educating kids from outside their geographical boundaries, and to set the price of tuition. If a system is closed zone, it is because that is the way that the board chooses to operate, and that's why I have to say that it's "fair". Now for the opposite viewpoint...open zone schools in urban area's have a monumental advantage over rural open zone systems and closed systems alike. There was an option proposed to TSSAA last year during the public/private split discussion that would have had urban open zone schools and privates placed in the same division, separate from the rural open zone and closed zone schools for that reason. Most people would define "fair" as no advantage to anyone, and for the TSSAA's purposes that is impossible. The rural/urban split would probably have come closest to the ideal, but would have two different entities (taxpayer funded publics and private owned) still in the same classification...not what most call fair. Sorry for the complicated answer to a simple question, but it just ain't that simple.
  6. Glad to see your Falcons heading back to being one of the best of the west bigster...hasn't felt right the last few seasons with LC out of the picture early.
  7. Before you continue to label me, I'd like for you to access my posts on this subject. Football, and the unfairness of those games to their opponents are now and have always been the LEAST of my criticisms. The kids who "coasted" through classes while knowing that passing grades were coming to them whether they earned them or not are the victims here, and I have always said so. You say that you support Trezevant because you are from there, and later use the excuse that teachers are trying to keep their jobs in an environment where students are not motivated to learn. If you love your school the way that I love mine, you should not wish to protect the people responsible for creating the negative environment by passing out grades not earned, you should be demanding answers from the administration as to why those teachers were not meeting their standards. Teli may not be the only one guilty of changing grades, but he was the only one who stood to gain a state championship from it. You say that the Trez kids learned early on that life isn't fair...they also learned that their football coach thinks that it's ok to lie and cheat, as long as you get what you want in the end, and that when "caught", it's fine to blame someone else in order not to face the consequences. Before you respond, look back at my posts and tell me again how all I care about is football.
  8. Unless "fluctuate" is code for "scrap it and start over", I'm with you little fairy!
  9. Could you please explain how you "point the finger" at SCS and "not at Trezevant nor Teli White"??? Teli represented the SCS at Trezevant, and it appears that he was at least aware of, if not directly responsible for changing his players grades for them to be eligible to compete. If Jim Jones had started his cult at Memphis there wouldn't be anyone left there the way you poor, misguided, gullible, brainwashed supporters of Trez and Teli blindly ignore what was done and to whom. The kids at Waverly and TCA who lost in the semi's (as well as the schools in Trez's region) had their fair chance taken from them, but they'll recover and be fine...the players that missed out on their education at Trezevant High will not. You can defend the man and sing his praises all that you like... in order to make himself look good, he took something from your children that they will never have the opportunity to get back,
  10. We lost a great one...thing is I'm happy for him and his family to do what they feel is right for them. Coach Stroup is my friend, and what we do at work doesn't change that at all. USJ doesn't realize what they have gained with him yet...not just a top quality football coach, but a genuine mentor and role model to their young men.
  11. Not a lot of people west of the river have seen Waverly in person, and fewer have seen them against a good team. The Tigers have not gotten the respect from media, coaches poll, or posters on the 'T that their play dictates that they should have. Not anyone's fault, and I'm not saying that people are intentionally disregarding them, but unless they graduated most of their talent, someone will have to play a heckuva game to beat them. Looking at scores and the SOS standings won't give you the same idea of their style of play that standing on the sidelines and hearing pads popping and watching second and third defenders flying in on the tackles full tilt will. On offense they are balanced pretty well, with big strong backs who can run, and receivers who can move the ball after the catch. Sounds like bragging but Scotts Hill was a very good football team at the end of last season..."we" made two mistakes on defense and lost...we made more mistakes against Adamsville two weeks prior and beat them. For the past two seasons, Waverly has been for real, and unless they fall off from last season UC (or whomever they face) had better bring everything they've got. Just for conversation (I usually don't go to the hypothetical matchups), I saw Dresden defeat Wayne Co. at home...I'd have made Waverly the favorite against them too, and they throttled UC.
  12. Is it "fine" with the parents and fans that the kids didn't receive the education that the taxpayers paid for? Is it "fine" with the teams that Trez beat in the playoffs, who worked for their chance to be there and were denied because the "better" team played with players that shouldn't have been there? Is it "fine" with the Memphis fans, just because they won...even though the adults involved mortgaged the athlete's futures just to make themselves look good? If these things are fine with you, don't bother to use the "you don't understand the circumstances these kids come from" excuse, because situations like this set every bad example in the book. Misdirecting blame, cheating, misrepresenting and falsifying facts (and grades) are bad enough... neglecting to educate even one of those kids could (and will) impact his life forever. Sports are intended to enhance the development of the students and connect the school with the community, not to use and discard illiterate graduates into the community.
  13. I hear that they've got a great waterboy though!!!
  14. Brown has been there for a long time, but finally low mouthed (rumor) kids long enough that the administration had had enough. He has been the subject of rumors for the last few years, along with the girls coach, to be replaced.
  15. Yes it's true, and there have been a couple of names mentioned that would be considered "good" choices. One is close to the system but wishes his name not be mentioned...the other is Riley (MS coach). None of this has come from administration, but from "in the know" public.
  16. Sometimes great offenses put pressure on the defense...if you score quickly, just means more time on the field for the defense, and less rest.
  17. If that's his predicted order of finish, I'll just have to respectfully disagree.
  18. I'm going to give him the benefit of doubt Reitz, and assume that the poll was not listed in the order that he is predicting the teams to finish, just randomly listed for the vote.
  19. Glad that you posted this Lacesout...if I had it would have seemed like me disrespecting Waverly or their kids, but you nailed it. Great teams don't necessarily have the absolute best players, just as great players don't necessarily make great teams. Your Tigers do their jobs well, and are athletic enough to make it very hard to keep them from their assignments on every play, and It will take a very good team to counteract just that much. I didn't see any "best player at position" in the state on last year's team...what I saw was a whole team full of very good players who played well together, and that's why I picked y'all to go to the semi final game. With all that's surfacing at Trez suggesting that illegal players participated, Waverly has as good of a claim as anyone to be the best 2AA team in the state last season, and I expect them to be in the hunt this time around as well.
  20. Lep's are usually identified as men...classified as "fairies"...hope that helps!
  21. I'm not a coach, and was not referring to myself. Most everything else you say is true, just as is what I said. There's a reason that so many Madison Co. schools are losing coaches, and it is out there that it's a support issue from the media and from those "inside the circle". Liberty has had an excellent program despite this, with many quality wins and nothing negative about the kids or coaches...ever. There was no intent to smear Liberty in my post, rather to exemplify what they've been able to do without the support that some of their competition (Dyersburg, Milan, South Gibson, Lexington) has, both from their respective communities and school systems. The "facilities don't mean jack squat" comment has some truth, but it's not a choice of athletes or facilities...you have the athletes, but bathroom sized locker and weight rooms aren't adequate to help them get better, and four coaches on staff is a joke.
  22. I won't do names because I'm not intending to embarrass anyone, but Scotts Hill had verbal agreements with several teams for the upcoming season...beat the #1 rated Adamsville Cardinals, a good Lewis Co. team, and play Waverly to the last possession with a chance to score and win in the quarters, and no one would play. The 2016 Lions were solid...the 2017 version will have a different QB,FB,HB,TE, and two WR'S, as well as the head coach and the top tacklers on defense. I'm not saying that everyone ran for the hills screaming, just that "we" aren't a gimmee for anyone anymore. Also not saying that all the teams reneged on their word, but lots did. Scotts Hill was not very good not long ago, and we played some teams "on our level", as well as some who we knew that were going to take us to the woodshed in order to get better...some of those who now refuse to play us in order to schedule the "easy wins" that Scotts Hill used to be. That's a pretty long response just to say "I agree", but now you know that I understand as well.
  23. Wow...someone voted for SH! Appreciate the confidence, but there's a lot of work to be done to get there.
