I understand what you are trying to say, but I don't think combining the two leagues is as easy in football. Actually they don't really combine fully in other sports. Each town still has their own rec league basketball and baseball programs. They do have the McMinn Fire for basketball and the Knights baseball but these are chosen teams. It would be great for the junior teams from both towns to combine but it is nearly impossible to do so. I believe the SETAC and the Sequoyah conferences both require that a program field 4 teams in order to participate in their conference. But let's say they change their rules, there is no such thing as AAU football where you can just throw a team together and play a schedule. All other junior high teams in our extended area from chattanooga to knoxville are actual junior high/middle school teams where they have paid coaches that are actual teachers just like it is in high school. To join their league, you have to be a part of the TMSAA (the TSSAA of middle schools) in order to compete. Yes it is best if the juniors could ever combine but unless our school system changes our k-8 schools, then it probably is not likely that it will ever happen.

Our district 5-AA can't compete with you guys (exception of Polk) but try the AAA district in our area: McMinn County, Cleveland, Walker Valley, Soddy-Daisy, Rhea County, Ooltewah

Who did they schedule? Last I heard, it was still up in the air.

Wow! what a 1st round game. This seems like a quarterfinal matchup Polk is more physical and Tyner is more athletic. The deciding factor is the discipline and the heart and desire that Polk brings. Polk by 14 And I'll say it 1st...Polk beats CAK next week too!

sorry to interupt a cleveland/rhea squabble on a cleveland/walker valley thread but how is the cleveland QB Voytek? Exactly what kind of hand injury did he have? Is it a career ending type of injury or should he be able to return next year?

well considering that central football struggled before that crop of athletes came in and now are struggling again since they left... It just adds up, but thats JMO, I don't know everything like you do

Maryville wins because of the loyalty and commitment that lobcabinman talked about. This commitment starts at the home (parents) and will then show through the kids. Your excuse to just to blame coaches. That's the easiest excuse to use when things aren't going good

I once heard that last winter/spring that their was like 70 kids out for football workouts. That to me sounds like their WAS some recruiting the halls to get that many kids out for winter workouts. I think it all goes back to the kids in our towns (Etowah/Englewood) are pampered. They don't know what hard work is anymore cause mommy and daddy spoil them with cars, xbox, ipods, cell phones. Sure playing football sounds like fun at first, but when these kids find out that you actually have to workout year round and have to put in a little sweat and effort in to it, then they decide they would rather stay on the couch...goes back to being pampered by parents.

Its worth $6 to just get to listen and watch the "too hype" warm-up chant!!!

I think this is a great idea! The only problem is, there are too many stubborn people that run the area programs that don't want change. They are not thinking about the kids or the high school,just their own league or team. In order for our district to become stronger, this would need to happen at central, sequoyah, and mcminn and then all the other teams would have to jump on board too. It is a start but it might take a few years to come about. Again, great idea!

Officials are in a lose-lose situation. They get yelled at for throwing too many flags, they get yelled at for not throwing enough flags. There is no way of making everyone happy. Its one of those things that you can't complain about unless you've been there and done it yourself.

I don't believe their community is any better than ours, but in a way I feel that they are a little harder working. It would be interesting to have a poll of how many Polk Co. football players have summer jobs (haulin hay, saw-millin, farmin, etc.) I believe the boys in our area are a little pampered. Yea there are some that work hard, but they don't play football...IMO that is the difference in our communities.

I think Sweetwater is much improved from last year but I think Polk will still win easily. Polk-35 Sweetwater-14
