  1. Anyone on here from Coalfield know a guy named Doug Lowe? He would have graduated from there around 1965-68. I think he might have played football there. He's a friend of mine from Cumberland College, and I've been trying to find out where he is.
  2. I believe rtl has this. Think I'll take a shower and then watch a movie.
  3. End of 1st. CHS on top 8-0. Coalfield has ball at MHS 2 , 2nd and goal.
  4. Go to the WBIR website - sports - local. First one of the players, then HC. Both imply the championship game will be Friday. Somebody better tell Adamsville and Peabody they can just stay home. Just have TSSAA ship silver ball to the winner's school.
  5. Did I mis-hear Channel 10 sports? Did GCA head man say the state championship game will be Friday between GCA and Marion Co?
  6. I think GCA may have gotten it wrong. I have heard the town called O - NI - DEE far more often than I have heard O - NI - DER.
  7. Timed twice. I prider's first post, we see Thomas on two consecutive kick returns. In the second return he goes from the 15 to the goal line in 11 seconds - wearing pads and carrying a football. PDQ.
  8. Crow, this is more accurate than you realize. I taught at SHS and I know.
  9. If Oneida wins out, does anyone know the playoff scenario? Like, Oneida would have a first round bye, but then what? What about the third round?
  10. Why does the Fightin' Irish piper play "Scotland, the Brave" as he enters the field? Why not "Bells of St. Mary's" or "When Irish Eyes Are Smiling?"
  11. Would be interested to hear from CAK fans re: the trip, the facilities, anything else.
  12. ATLCat, is Chirico's the restaurant that is inside what looks like a house? That's the place where wife & I ate. Also, CAK folks can get a look at the Belfry facilities by going to the Pike Co school system website and choosing Belfry HS. There are some pictures.
  13. Wait. Now I am confused. I thought D1 was all public schools and privates who did not provide financial aide to its athletes. D2 was private schools that gave financial aid to students whether they are athletes or not. Am I incorrect?
  14. My friend from KY says to follow the mapquest direction from the computer. Take I-81 north to tri-cities then US 23 north to Pikeville. If you are in the mood for Italian food, google "Pikeville ky Italian restaurant." I think it starts with a C. My wife and I ate there - very good. From Pikeville you take US 119 toward West Virginia. You are about 20-25 minutes from the school. You can see it from the highway and you won't believe the quality of the facilities for such a remote location. As to going to Breaks Interstate Park - that drive is two lane, slow and curvy. Work is being done on KY 80 from Pikeville to Elkhorn City. Took us 2 hours to get there because of the construction. The park entrance is in Virginia, so you will have to pay and entrance fee. Wish all who go a safe trip and hope for a successful conclusion to the game.
  15. This is off topic, but pretty impressive. In 2009 Bell lost in the semi finals to eventual state champ Boyle Co. 13-10. In 2010 Bell lost in the same round to the same team, this time 25-21. Again in 2010 Boyle was eventual state champ. This is in 4A (out of 6 classes). You know what's even more impressive? Driving all the way to Belfry for a game. To you folks from CAK, I will try to get in touch with my buddy from KY and see what he thinks is the best way to get there. You think Scott Co. is the middle of nowhere, just wait.
  16. I remember the last game against Maryville. It was the first round of the playoffs, and man was it cold. Seems like I remember the teams going in at halftime and when they came back on the field, there was frost on the grass. Hard fought, well played game.
  17. I fully intended to watch the OHS / GHS replay on television this afternoon, but when I turned it on, the game was just starting the fourth quarter. Holy Cow! I thought I had time-traveled back to 1984 or 1985 and was watching Scott High run the T Formation. Fun to watch and GB seemed not to have an answer. To whoever came up with the idea to use that offense, thank you.
  18. First of all, let me tell you that I am a retired teacher/coach (35 years). If I were a SP fan who lived in the area, I would not be too worried until you had a loss against a 1A team. Remember that your losses are against a couple of larger schoosl. I once asked a long-time football coach what a perfect schedule was. He said - 3 teams that would take a perfect game to beat, 3 cupcakes (to rest and give the younger kids experience), and 4 teams that were on an equal footing. He felt that a too easy schedule was more harmful to a program than one that was challenging. Decisions on who to play, when to play them, and what play to run are best left to the coaching staff. A football coach friend from Kentucky told me four years ago that his once-proud, tradition rich program was in trouble. I asked him how he knew. He replied that he had visited the school and saw too many horses walking the halls (not playing) and on the sidelines Friday night he saw too many hamburger eaters. The ensuing four years have proven him right. Ambassador is correct. The coaches know what's best.
  19. I'm not sure Trinity was No. 1 this pre-season. If so, I would have to say USAToday really jumped the gun in doing so. This year the Shamrocks lost to not only Ensworth, but also Lawrence Central out of Indiana, Colerain and Moeller from Cincy, and Louisville Male twice (reg season & playoffs). Male ended Trinity's season at 6 - 6.
  20. For many years Tennessee (and many other states) did not have a football playoff series.
