  7. Well its obvious now why girls bball in West Tn. is so bad!
  8. Or maybe its Coaches egos! They think a 30-40 point win looks better in the paper or on Coach T than a 20 point win! Some Coaches believe it is about them and not the players! How about the other kids on the bench that show up at every practice and bust their butts just to make the starters better! But I have seen this as well! The Coach on the losing end will leave their starters in as well just trying to make the score less embarrassing! Either way you cant nurture your program up 30 with 3 mins to go with upperclass starters on the floor!
  9. AAU is part of the problem! These bigger AAU programs usually have players that are top notch players and athletes that may not can afford to play and pay these Coaches and trainers and then there are the players whose parents have money that can afford to do so which also pays the way for the stand out player that cant! But these AAU teams are made up of just the best players or again players that can afford the cost to pay these so called great AAU Coaches so again alot of kids are not given the opportunity to get better! So these AAU kids who play on these select teams all the time don't know how to play with other non AAU kids! And the HS Coach just lets his 1 or 2 AAU players kinda run wild on the court! Makes for ugly HS games!
  10. McMinn Central and Meigs Co. no doubt will play in a sub-state game!
  11. Playing AAU is not free! Any team playing Tourneys have to pay for uniforms and tournament entry fees! Tournament entry fees usually cover the refs! Anyone holding a tourney would know if you let 4-5 teams play for free you would lose money on ref fees!
  12. These HS Coaches you are referring to that can do so much for kids can still do it! They can have camps and clinics but actually Coaching AAU at any grade is such a temptation! If a Coach is at HS A and she Coaches in a big AAU program in grades 9-11 obviously she/he cant Coach their own players! But a player they Coach is unhappy at HS B! And that kids parents ask about transferring what do you think that Coach is going to say? Lets not be naive they are going to recruit! Simple solution to TSSAA let HS Coaches coach HS and AAU Coaches Coach AAU! Easy to police that way and no slippery slopes!
  13. Great Point! Get them out completely! If you are TSSAA or TMSAA Coach or AD you should have nothing to do with AAU! So tell me if you Coach a HS team and then during Spring and Summer you Coach AAU at any age and you put time into kids I promise you they will try and get that kid to their school!
  14. WOW! So you are advocating a recruiting free for all! Should be exact opposite there are way too many TSSAA Coaches, asst Coaches, etc already Coaching AAU programs! The larger AAU programs thru out the State are already being Coached by too many HS and MS Coaches! Leaves too much room for recruiting!
  15. I watched the Fast Break AAU teams play many times and played against the 8th and HS teams but never saw 8th play with HS kids! Can't say if they practiced together or not! I am sure this is happening all over the State so to pick one as an example is not going to change anything!
  16. Sign ups are underway for the 2017 Care For Kids Elite HS Girls Fall League! This season will be the 4th season with the 1st 3 being a huge success! Dates for the League are Sept. 16, 23, 30 and Oct 7. 2 games each Saturday either back to back or no more than a 1 game break with NO PRACTICES! For grades entering 9 thru 12 we will accept some 8th by request! $75 per player for the full season and game shirt! Sibling discounts are offered! Players can request to be on same team but no more than 3 from the same school! Deadline Aug. 29! Our Coaches are current AAU Coaches and ex players! D2, D3, NAIA and JUCO Coaches attend games! All game at Meigs Co. HS in Decatur Tn. For more info please go to the Care For Kids FB page or contact Jeff Crowder at 423-618-0379 or Jon Simbeck 423-435-3980
  17. Anyone interested in finishing out the season on our 4th or 7th Grade teams please contact Jon Simbeck at 423-435-3980!
  18. Who would run the shot clock? A teacher, Volunteer from the school? Should TSSAA provide a 4th official just for this purpose? If you have ever been to an AAU tourney with a shot clock you will see how it gets screwed up a lot! Would each school be responsible for buying the clocks? Would they be on the floor or up on the back board? HS ball is just fine as it is!
  19. Looked like a good strategy that almost worked! No different than teams playing zone because they don't have the athletes to play man! A game with both teams playing zone is boring too, so why not make a rule everyone must play man! The problem seemed to be why the other team did not come out and pressure ball and trap! I assume their Coach plays zone because his team is bigger and may not have lots of speed! That's his strategy! Nothing to see here just 2 Coaches doing what they need to do to win!! If CCS would have won we would be applauding the Coach for great strategy!
  20. And we have the WINNER!!!!!
  21. You used the words Possibly and Probably and Small and Chance! You also confirmed that most of the teams playing in the lower tier levels at these tourneys may have 1 Elite player thus admitting that the other 8-9 players on that team are there to maybe play good comp and hopefully get their 1 team member possibly seen! Parents choice!I am not talking about the teams that play in the top level!!! I just hope that these Coaches are truly informing their parents of what is not going to happen at these Tourneys before they take a week off and pay lots of $! Please let this sink in! I attended a NAIA game just yesterday! There was at least 10 young ladies attending the game in grades 9-12 a couple of those already committed the rest are there because they have established a relationship with these College Coaches because the Coaches attended their HS games! I am sure at most NAIA, JUCO, etc this is the norm! Just another Viable option that just happens not to be very expensive! Great basketball played at that level by the way!
  22. "BINGO!!!!!! Showcase! Showcase! Showcase! That phrase is dominating Girls AAU ball now! Showcases for 3rd thru 8th Grade teams! These big Exposure events that have been watered down so much with different divisions in each age group! $$$$$$ The PROMISE of playing a game surrounded by College Coaches! And this happens but they are not watching 75% of the teams there! But these Directors know that if they do these player profiles and yes get them to College Coaches like the advertise thats the "SELL" to get teams to come that truly have no business being there! Yes 100's of College Coaches are there! But they are not watching a game on Court 21 between 2 9th or 10th grade teams in the Bronze Division! Way too many AAU Coaches and programs are feeding on this frenzy by telling parents we will take your child to Showcases to play where College Coaches are! Just pay what we tell you too and your kid will be Showcased! Maybe only 10% of the kids at these events will play D1! The College Coaches already for the most part know these players and the teams they play for! Another 20% or so will get offers from D2 level teams! Lets be honest! Not counting the teams that play in the Super Gold Divisions in grades 10 and 11 most of the teams there lets say 10 girls on a team maybe only 3 girls on those teams will even play some level of College Ball! The other 7 are just paying the Hot Shot AAU Coaches way and giving his best 1-2 players to be seen! Cause without doing Showcases he will lose his best player to another Showcase team! I know a couple NAIA Coaches and its not in their budget to attend these events! I am sure thats the case with lots of smaller Colleges! Just don't want the terms Showcase and Exposure diminishing the importance of playing for your HS team and ruining AAU at the State level!
  23. Thank You! And I believe you are correct in 95% of the kids who sign attended an Exposure Event! I assume you are referring to D1 Colleges! Whether that is a Power 5 level D1 or mid level such as Chattanooga, ETSU, etc! But that is the teams and players that play in the TOP Div at these events! But I assume there are 100's of other teams and 1000's of other players in the lower Div. who are just there and will not get offers! I know there are other benefits of playing in these events! But in your honest opinion of the 100's of teams and 1000's of players overall scholarship speaking only would you say most are wasting their time and money?
