  1. I saw MBA chairman's letter. Was that joke? Pure arrogance. Surely heads rolled today. The headmaster? AD? It looks like the arrogant board chair should go too. No one is fooled. you got busted. Nice spin.
  2. Congratulations. Add to a long line of players from Alcoa moving on to the next level. Think the young man might have picked up a few things from the old man along the way!?!
  3. If Alcoa is safe then we are the lucky ones. Gary is a great fit at Alcoa and just like all other top coaches, Gary's name will be brought up when top jobs open. Lets be glad he coaches at Alcoa though we all know this won't last forever. And whoever the next coach is, history shows he should be successful too.
  4. How can you say Gary is not in the class as GQ? Both are excellent coaches and have a proven successful history. BUT Gary has been successful at multiple schools, different communities, different players, different administrations, different parts of the state, etc. Both are winners and East TN is lucky to have them both. Plus they play the hand their dealt. No disrespect to the private school coaches but coaching in public school is different.
  5. As been previously stated, Alcoa won before Gary, has one with Gary, and will win after Gary. He has been a good leader of the program and I personnally like the man. The rumor mill spins every year. If Gary leaves then best wishes but until I see it he's our coach.
  6. Pure speculation as I am not an insider. I do have a very close friend and ex-coworker that has very close ties to FRA and I get my middle TN info from him. I have nothing specific on Pack, I am a fan and was just curious.
  7. Any news out of BA? Speaking from Gary Rankiin's perspective....despite the down year he is happy in Alcoa and Alcoa is LUCKY to have Gary. Gary ain't going any where. What I'm trying to figure out is why BA isn't going after Pack? I know the FRA folks and they would fight hard for him but if BA called that'd be interesting.
  8. I almost feel like a proud poppa after watching Randall last night. By the looks of it he is going to be a major part of Green Bay's bak-to-back Super Bowl championships.
  9. Go ahead and pile on when you can. Take advantage because with the exception of a few losses to Maryville you haven't had many chances in the past decade. Hats off to Maryville. These games are always tough and Alcoa will be fine the rest of the year. I'll take Gary and this group of coaches and playes any day.
  10. BCsportsfan, you beat me to it....nice list.
  11. I thought the same thing after reading this detailed recap. Good thing about scrimmages is this areas can be exposed now. Come the Maryville game this holes will be patched. See you friday! the road to 12 begins
  12. Visited middle TN this weekend and drove up to FRA gamefield with old friend and current parent. There is not a finer setting. Sightlines for miles in all directions. FRA cares about their football and should have a fine year.
  13. Amen. While Gary may enforce discipline, he is a 'player's coach'. I agree that Oggs is a talent but if is as productice as Cobb then this will be a fun year.
  14. I hate to see anyone get hurt, especially high school young men. Alcoa will be fine as a team and they will rally around Koko. The season is here...let's get it on!
  15. I keep my eye on the privates and Ensworth at MUS is a good matchup of 2 high priced schools that "dont recruit".
  16. Randall should do very well. He dominated at Alcoa and UK and has all the tools to have a long career for the PACK. He is a great role model and I am proud to call him one of our own. I can't think of a better team for him to go to...defending Super Bowl champs, great coaches, one of the best QB's, and veterans WR's to learn from.
  17. I'll be heading west to watch FRA play on the 19th then back to Nashville Aug. 26, Webb vs. Ensworth.
  18. Gary has been, is, and will be an excellent high school coach. He won in Murfreesboro and he is winnig at Alcoa. As previous posters have also stated, Alcoa won before Gary was here and they will win when he moves on. This is not a shot at either party, just a fact based on solid talent, supportive fans and parents, and an administration that is behind athletics. With that being said, Coach Nix would be an excellent replacement. He has the players respect and his defense plays good. On the offense, good coaches will come to Alcoa, just like they have in the past.
  19. Excellent list and a great jog down memory lane.
  20. My former colleague is an FRA supporter and I beg to differ. They play good football and their coaching staff has experience at many levels.
  21. Hambrick, Manuel, Tate, and Warfield are all solid members of this squad. I will be fun to see who emerges as 'new' talent this year. I agree with most, if not all of the selections, but the team might be East TN heavy, let's not discount the talent from the other parts of the state. As we all know, post-season honors are nice but what is most important is that the Team trophy stays where it belongs.....
  22. There is another thread that talks about the great players from each school that your post reminded me of. Alcoa has produced some good SEC talent, along with some mid-level colleges too. Maryville is no slouch either though. A good rivalry both on the field and for players at the next level...
  23. This is bringing back a lot of good memories. It just goes to show how many talented young men have come through the Alcoa program. Hopefully there are a few more on this years team that we can eventually add to the list.
  24. I can't comment on the passing game at AUSTIN-EAST but Gary will place his QB in a situation to make sound football decisions whether Oggs is the QB or not. That is the beauty of the system. There is enough talent and playmakrs around, the QB needs to manage the game well and not get the team beat.
  25. Very strong comparisons.....if you are even close to right (I am not doubting you) then he will add to an already talented group.
