  1. I have always called this the backyard brawl because of the schools locations and the fact that some of these kids are even neighbors. Several years ago when my oldest son was playing for South his best friend played for Boone. Hey SSHS - who are those #1 and #2 running backs for South this year?
  2. Hearing from the North fans that they had their way with the Rebels in a scrimmage recently. I have not gotten to keep up with this years version of the Rebels so I have no clue what the story is behind the scenes. I thought that North was losing several of their skill players this year so I don't know what to expect.
  3. I heard the same thing from a Raider friend earlier tonight. It will be interesting to see how things play out this year.
  4. One of the East parents told me this was going to be a good year for them. I think he said they had 24 seniors on the team.
  5. The current feeder situation for Volunteer sounds very similar to the one at South with one much larger middle school (CH) and the other very much smaller (Sullivan) which has at times struggled to to field a team. They have made it work though. Biggest thing my friends at Volunteer have talked about is coaching. I hope Barry can turn things around. I won't call any names but a recent graduate there told me that certain Dobyns-Bennett coaches did more for him regarding college recruiting than his own coaches at Volunteer. That is sad.
  6. Well I hear Coach Norris has put in for the open HC job at Gate City. I thought he'd probably go back to Dobyns-Bennett when North closed but GC has great tradition and a small town atmosphere. He'd probably be drawing a lot of students across the state line from Bloomingdale to GC as well because those people are up in arms about having to send kids to high school out by the airport when that school opens in 2019 or 2020. You Hampton guys ought to try to pick up Gate City after South turns into a middle school at that same time. They will be looking for an open game and Hampton will also at the same time. That would be a fantastic series. Not sure what North would look like without Norris at the helm. A lot of assistants would probably try to go with him. Heard that there were a lot of applicants for the job though and Norris may be staying put. We'll know in about a month.
  7. I remember that and honestly sort of expected Norris to go back to D-B after North closes but from what I understood they were talking about two different applicants. I don't think they are supposed to make a choice until mid to late May which would allow someone to finish out their contract at another school before taking over. Sorry to hijack the D-B thread with all this across the state line business!
  8. Is he old enough to retire? Some Gate City folks are saying that an ex-Indian coach has applied for the GC head coach position. Also heard that Norris at SN had also applied.
  9. Wouldn't you consider Science Hill, South, and Elizabethton and maybe Tennessee High natural regional rivals? Maybe not Greeneville so much.
  10. Something needed to be done but personally I wish that the folks in Bloomingdale hadn't raised such a fuss when they proposed sending the kids at North over to South and having 3 county high schools. Instead we got a big county-wide study and the kids in Bloomingdale are having to go all the way to the airport area. I still have one kid who will graduate from South and with my job being in Kingsport it has been real convenient for me. I would not have fussed much if the decision had been made to send the high schoolers to North for the same reason as long as they would have been able to restore all the programs there that they have had to stop due to dwindling student population at North. Instead, for anyone who has a Kingsport centric life they will now have to shuttle all the way out to the airport all the time which will not be convenient. I would not like that but I won't have to deal with it. The facilities at South are fairly nice for a county school and there is a fair amount of community support. Academics have been very good too. I just don't know if that same level of "community" support will extend that far out. I honestly detest the Kingsport government that has decimated the county schools by only taking in what they want over the western part of the county and leaving these little pockets of population scattered out over a wide geographic area for the county to deal with.
  11. I wrote about 3 different replies to this but in the end I decided that you're just pullin my leg here... I do like the enthusiasm though!
  12. Might surprise me but I don't see Witten leaving the secure/comfortable situation he is in and uprooting it all for that price.
  13. OK - Six weeks later what is the coaching situation at Sullivan Central?
  14. Freshman girls BB team won their first game tonight.
  15. Short of some sort of economic implosion that affects the U.S. as a whole and affects the ability of the county to borrow money - this is happening. Looking at 2019 or 2020 to open. Latest word is that it will be somewhere around Northeast State C.C. area. This is not a rumor.
  16. I'm not sure how much interest there will be in this position. Whoever takes it will be the odd man out in 2019 when the new high school opens. I think Haney and Norris just will have too much seniority on whoever takes this position. Honestly think that Noris will probably go back to DB at that point in time.
  17. Just saw where a couple of JUCO players were signing for the Bucs football team next year. While they don't get a lot of press, several local players have had great careers at the D3 level. One that comes to mind immediately is Heath Haden from Sullivan South who played QB for Centre College for the last 4 years. Merry Christmas Guys (and Gals)!!!
  18. I've got experience here from a family perspective. Some homegrown athletes and others are electing to attend (via tuition) the city schools at an early age for education benefits that they are not even thought of as transfers by the time they get to high school. Great coaching, fantastic facilities, etc. If I had a smart kid with potential in Greene county I know where I'd send him/her (unless I lived way up north along Horton Highway then I'd send them to Sullivan South).
  19. What kind of nonsense is this? They have basically played up in classification for a while. Now they are playing in the class they are sized for. What is your problem with that?
  20. I think this bobcat guy is going out on a limb here and painting with too broad of a brush but I do have to say that I know exactly what he was talking about. It doesn't take very many jerks to unfortunately cause a bad experience for visiting fans. I came down a couple years ago to support the Devils during a playoff game. I sat up high behind the student section. Around halftime (Greeneville was ahead at the time) a fellow close to me said to everyone around us "well it's time to go agitate". He went to the visitor stands and moved around the whole second half heckling the visitor crowd. The people sitting around me spent as much of that second half watching those shenanigans as they did watching the game on the field so I figured it was a common occurance.
  21. Congrats Dogs, didn't get to make it last night as I got a late offer that I could not refuse. Will try to make it next week. Boy I missed a whale of a game it sounds.
  22. That must have been my doppelgänger! Was wanting to go to that but I think I was flying to Denver that day. I did sit on the Hampton side on the top row at your game with HV though.
  23. Hmm, just read the Kingsport paper and it said that SN rushed for 510 yards against AE. Also said that they lost 4 starters during the course of the game and that might have something to do with the breakdown after SN took a 28-26 lead near the beginning of the 4th quarter. Don't think AE will be able to stop the Dogs but AE may score a bunch too. Still think the dogs will roll.
  24. Good luck to Hampton. I've got something going on next Friday and don't know if I can make it or not but, Lord Willing, I'll try to come cheer on the Dogs next week. Gotta run...
