  1. ????What issue? The issue that someone is posting incorrect facts that, when proven to be false, directly oppose the point they are trying to make? I'm glad you finally got to use the new big word you learned, but if you're going to try and argue a point it might help to post factual information that actually supports it. Not information when discovered to be factual actually supports the viewpoint you're arguing against. That's called being stupid. If you want to argue that the only tournaments when one weighs in 2 days before (including Super 32) requires competition the very next day after the weigh in. Not a day of rest, then fine. That would be a sensible and factual argument.
  2. Though I don't necessarily agree with a weigh in 2 days before the event, you're wrong about Southeast Regional, Fargo and Central Nationals. At each event, if you wrestle both styles you weigh in the night before one style, but don't have to re weigh before competing in the next style which winds up being 2 days before.
  3. Not really sure why anybody's bashing anyone. As far as credentials there's always somebody with a one up. And who cares. There's very good coaches that don't have many wrestling credentials and I've met some very, very bad coaches that have amazing wrestling credentials. Here's an idea: If you don't like the camp or the camp staff then don't go. Be grateful that there are several camps to choose from. I would suppose any camp at all is better than none.
  4. Wow, is this really a big deal. We're talking about a weighin for a spring tournament. It's statewide. It's certainly not unusual to offer satellite weighins. Perhaps not 2 days early, but nevertheless i don't understand how that effects safety. Maybe you're more concerned about cheating. If that's the case just say so.
  5. Will there be a challenge scale at the future challenge match weigh ins? Or at least a 30 minute grace period just in case they're over weight?
  6. Yes Rg111, but let me take it a step further. The only 2 good weight classes are 145 and 152. After all, all the good athletes over 152 play football. And most everyone under 145 probably either wrestled 106 or 113 at one time or another. So obviously if you wrestled 106 or 113 you weren't any good (unless you were in junior high when you did) and if you grow past 152 you'll be a full time football player. (I'm curious to see how many posters understand sarcasm)
  7. Just saw Elijah Oliver placed 5th in the Big 10's @ 125lbs. Didn't even realize he was wrestling varsity for Indiana. I thought he was redshirting or something.
  8. Are you kidding????? Beech would place at 106, 145 (Murphy would crush him and probably Dendy too), and 182 (Whimper wins 8 of 10). Both Father Ryan and Baylor place 6 or 8 guys in top 5 (you actually get points besides placing in top 3). And Bradley isn't affected much. How do you figure Beech?????? That makes zero sense. I'd also like you to point out how many State Champs have "tough matches for 5 rounds".
  9. So is it better to have a double forfeit next round? I believe the intent of the rule is to keep wrestlers safe. If the move is illegal and doesn't injure the wrestler then 1 point is given for an illegal move. No big deal. If the wrestler is injured and can't continue, but the injured wrestler (and opposing coach) feel it was UNINTENTIONAL then why not let the other wrestler advance? I certainly don't see it as a slippery slope. Anyone that has wrestled long enough has, at one time or another, been guilty of an illegal move.
  10. Varsity - 152 1st Place - Alonso Heyward of Chattanooga Central High School 2nd Place - Donnie Beyer of Bradley Central High School 3rd Place - Arthur James of Science Hill High School 4th Place - Justin Wheeler of Chattanooga Christian High School 1st Place Match 1st Place Match - Alonso Heyward (Chattanooga Central High School) won by decision over Donnie Beyer (Bradley Central High School) (Dec 7-2) 3rd Place Match 3rd Place Match - Arthur James (Science Hill High School) won by fall over Justin Wheeler (Chattanooga Christian High School) (Fall 1:31)
  11. So that settles it. The ONE time they wrestled McElhaney was beating Eason and "caught" him in a cradle to pin him (not really sure if anyone has ever gotten pinned without getting "caught"). So 120 clearly goes to D1 (although I'm sure PF would have something to say about that).
  12. I would somewhat agree with you CBG. But I'd say 3 years provided the right staff was in place. It also takes more than just good athletes. Wrestling is too difficult for most good athletes. They usually quit out of humiliation. It takes someone with an incredible work ethic and that can take getting their butt whipped by lesser athletes for at least 1.5 years. Those athletes are rare, but they are out there. After 2 years they turn the corner. So getting started would require quite a few freshmen.
  13. Relax, "you" doesn't necessarily mean "you". Unless of course it pertains to "you".
  14. This reminds me of prayer in school. Too many people sat idly by when the few screaming and crying about it 'not being fair' and how it would 'increase participation' convinced the powers that be. You kept silent because you didn't want to be called a 'bigot' and a 'wrestling hater' by keeping it one division, being 'old school' and not wanting to grow the sport. Now it's too late. Shame on you. '
  15. I've noticed they've also really increased their product line. A whole lot more hats, t-shirts, etc. Also I'm sure there's a bit made off the live webcast, video on demand, dvd's and pictures. It's turning into a whole lot more than just ticket sales.
  16. A-AA has 4 byes blind drawn in per weight class. So, yes many wrestlers start in the quarter finals. Currently there are only 3 regions with the top 4 qualifying. That makes for a 16 man bracket with only 12 wrestlers. Eventually the TSSAA plans to redraw the regions creating 4. However there's a temporary snag as some A-AA schools will be switched to private (D2). The AAA and AA classification is based solely on enrollment. I believe 850 and under is AA
  17. 1-2-2 consolations is standard. In fact the NCAA's used to be 2-2-2 (as opposed to 3-2-2) until recently
  18. Just watched the video. It was by definition a slam. Can't put yourself in a position for it to even be close. Not sure how you can wrestle more than 100%
  19. Does anyone know what the asterisk next to some of the names in the brackets means? I noticed all the forfeits have them, but not all of them that had asterisks were forfeits. Does this mean those wrestler's had to be double checked for skin or what?
  20. There seems to be a massive amount of confusion here. First there is a growth allowance. Every weight class goes up by 2 pounds after Christmas (106 becomes 108). In addition an extra pound is given for each day of consecutive competition. For an official weighin, once weighins are announced, after a team enters the weighin area no one may enter or leave until the weighin is complete. Once weighins begin there is no more checking weight. However, prior to weighins there is a check scale available for the wrestlers to use. No one can weigh in naked, but wearing a singlet is not required (that's for freestyle and kid events, not TSSAA) (underwear only). If a wrestler is over weight, they are allowed to challenge at that time and may try weighing on all the other official scales. There is no grace period and there shouldn't be.
  21. I've been to hundreds of major tournaments and I've yet to see ANY major tournament without a check scale and without a challenge scale (usually the check scale is one of the challenge scales). Of course I wasn't there and don't know if the Region tournament was an exception and also don't know if maybe he was stuck in traffic or got to the weighins at the last minute. But it is a shame as he surely would've been competing for a state championship (provided he made weight for the next 3 weighins)
  22. Freeman did not place at McCallie
  23. Why wouldn't the second place team from the Region fill in? Would make much more sense than just leaving it open for a bye. But then again.......
  24. From the article: "Cleveland led in total match points with Red Bank, Soddy-Daisy and McCallie rounding out the top seven instead of being spread oput over the top eleven placements. These schools were also getting pins and weren't spending a lot of time on the mat. The Blue Raiders had 16 pins/technical falls with roughly 28 minutes of mat time compared to Team Points Champ Woodland who had 22 pins/technical falls in roughly 50 minutes of mat time." Is anyone besides me confused by this? Is he saying that 'mat time' is like 'time of possession' in football? This whole time I thought the object was to pin. And to pin as quickly as possible. I didn't realize you can score more tournament points with more "mat time".
